Xiaomi air humidifier 2 connection

Instructions for Xiaomi Humidifier 2

A new air humidification device from Xiaomi’s partner Smartmi, created to be used as part of the Mijia smart home ecosystem.

The device is interesting for users, first of all, by the fact that it has an unusual algorithm of functioning. Xiaomi Humidifier 2 is not ultrasonic type, unlike the lion’s share of devices in this category and earlier versions of this equipment, but mechanical. Here the procedure of natural removal of dampness from the large area of the plates takes place. Thanks to the evaporation mechanism no white deposits are left on furniture surfaces. There is also no effect on the sensor device for air purification.

The equipment is operated manually by means of 2 keys at the top. The left button changes the brightness level of the LEDs. bright, medium and off. 10 LEDs in the humidifier. Half of them are the water volume, then the Wi-Fi sensor and the modes of operation, automatic and 3 speeds. The button on the right, in a circle, changes the mode of operation between the 3 manual and self operation of the appliance.

Operating the Mi Home app

Connecting to Mi home is standard, if auto-discovery is enabled. the device will find itself, if not. it must be selected and added, you even need to configure WI-FI, update the firmware if prompted. that’s basically it. The region must be China, or you need to put a patched version of the application Screenshots from Mi home:

xiaomi, humidifier, connection

From the application you can turn off and turn on the backlight, a beeping speaker, change the mode, set the desired level of humidity which the humidifier will support. You can configure the auto power on and other automation, I will not dwell on this in detail

I’ll show you a video in action and tell you how to clean the air and change the microclimate in a Moscow apartment building with a humidifier. Air purifier from Xiaomi.

Purchased it for a child’s room, because the air in the apartment is dry (26-30% humidity). Normal humidity is 40% to 70%.

In summer the window was always open, so we put it in mode 3.

Very easy to control from the app. Everything is clear.

The humidifier works on account of the water, which converts into steam and releases through the hole in the top. I hope I explained correctly. It also sucks in air, purifying it.

This is what is written about it in the characteristics:

The Smart Mi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 has a rather impressive size

The design consists of two parts, directly in the bottom is filled with water, fits a maximum of four liters. There is a liquid level sensor, so that overflow, pour more than necessary, does not work. Water falls on the many plates that rotate and evaporates from them. The internal device is smart and convenient: each such plate can be taken out and cleaned, as well as the liquid reservoir itself. It is worth noting that the inside of the tank has a special antibacterial coating, which eliminates the emergence and reproduction of harmful and dangerous microorganisms.

The design of the Smart Mi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 is leak-proof. It is also excluded the possibility of operating the device without water, because when it runs out in the reservoir, the smart technique turns off. No need to disassemble the humidifier to pour the liquid inside, it can also continue to work. Water is poured through the upper grid.Electronic parts and components are in the upper part of the humidifier, but not at the bottom, so they do not interact with water. Moisture-laden air comes into the room through the grate at the top. And it goes into the humidifier through the side grill. There, it is drawn in by a motor-driven fan. That is to say, dry air is sucked out of the room, goes through the plates, is saturated with moisture and fed back in. Up to 36 square meters of space can be humidified in this way. It also measures and controls the temperature and humidity in the room. And also has several modes of operation.

You can set the limit after which the humidifier shuts off by itself. But be aware that its sensors do not indicate correctly. It only measures degrees and humidity around itself. It’s always more than what’s actually in the room. We measure with another device, also from Xiaomi, which hangs on the wall far from the humidifier. Also connected to the phone through the app and sends a notification when the air is too dry or the temperature is too low.

easy to turn on! You press the button on the right and that’s it! With the same button you switch the mode. The button on the left turns off the backlight. And a long press on the right button turns the humidifier off. You need an adapter for the socket, because all Xiaomi devices have a square plug.

There are three modes and auto mode. Now we have auto because it is synchronized with the device, in the photo below and adjusts the mode itself.

There is a water level indicator. 4 light bulbs that indicate how many liters you have filled.

Water pours directly into the hole at the top. It’s big enough so it’s hard to miss.

Also very easy to clean. Take off the top part, which is connected to the wire and the bottom part wash and fill with water.

We use filtered water, we have aquaphor.

I will now show you how to automate its operation.

Then press Settings (three dots at the top right)

Add If. you choose a humidifier and select e.g. 70% humidity

Then. Choose the humidifier again and set it to Off or switch to a lower setting. Or if the temperature is so-and-so, you have to do so-and-so.

I hope I explained clearly. We have the following: if the device shows 70% humidity, the humidifier turns off.

And immediately MINUS. You can’t set it to turn off automatically if the water runs out!

It would be cool if there were notifications when the water runs out.

We even often have the occasional no water, and he continues with the last breath of steam, but as the bottom of dirt, it does not smell very good ) He certainly blinks that there is no water, but at night we sleep and do not see. Usually it’s only at night. The main thing is not to forget to fill the water and you can calculate when it will run out and set the off timer. And that’s it)

Overnight, the climate in the apartment changes dramatically, if you leave it on the third mode. It takes all 4 liters of water, but the air is so nice and clean and humid you’ll feel it right away. Feels like being in the tropics.

Now with our heating, we bring it up to 60% and put it on auto, breathes well.

Fully satisfied! Totally justifies the price.

▪️ I recommend reading a review about the Xiaomi Skin Care Device. Left a before/after picture. There massager and titanium head for deep penetration of cosmetics.

Hi all! Now will be a review on the iron, which I prepared almost a week (it’s not your mascara to describe). Why the air washer and not an ultrasonic humidifier, why Xiaomi and not Venta or Boneco. Warning, this is a very detailed review, with lots of technical descriptions at the beginning.

Dry skin, dry hair, dried flowers, batteries at maximum. it’s always like this in winter. The way out. Air washer or a regular humidifier.

This review I dedicate Xiaomi Smartmi Air Humidifier 2, which really helped me to cope with these difficulties. Maintaining normal humidity in the house you can get rid of a bunch of seasonal problems.

Where to start when choosing a humidifier? I think this is an important block in this particular review) (Blondes can skip)

First you need to decide what type of humidifier you need for your tasks. They come in two types: ultrasonic humidifiers and air washers. The first is cheaper and simpler by design, the second, respectively, more expensive and more complex (although here we can argue).

What is the difference. Ultrasonic humidifiers create a suspension of fine airborne dust (like fog). Fine water dust, not “molecular” level, appears in the air. Over time, it settles on surfaces. And it’s best on those that absorb moisture well. While it settles, it already disintegrates into molecular, which will be a humidifier. The key word is: settles. Creates so-called water vapor. Like a sprayer for flowers creates fine water droplets. This kind of vaporizer can create near 100% humidity, and it can cause dew to fall on surfaces. And also the humidification level is not controlled, that is, it will humidify and humidify until you turn it off yourself. Of the disadvantages of this type. in this suspension gets everything that is in the water, that is, all the salts and other impurities will also get into the air, because it is not as such evaporation. like splitting water into incredibly small particles that can float in the air.

The formation of water suspension is due to the cold cavitation boiling water on the surface of the ultrasonic radiator (but now in Russian: inside the bowl of liquid in the evaporator is a high-frequency speaker-speaker, the vibration of which the water begins to “boil”). So you get these big enough mist droplets suspended above the surface of the liquid. There are models with forced venting of the internal cavity of the evaporator with the help of a fan. They have more efficiency. However, they lose the main advantage of this type of vaporizers. silence.

This is related to the main disadvantages of this type. the formation of white plaque on furniture, spraying pathogens formed on the inner surfaces of the humidifier in the absence of proper care, that is, cleaning. This disadvantage can be mitigated in two ways. First: you can add, for example, chlorhexidine or miramistine (in very small quantities) to the water and the bacteria that live in this water will not enter the air. The second. by using distilled water (you can buy it at the drugstore, at the car store for 15-30 p per liter).

The vast majority of such humidifiers have no moving parts, due to which they are highly reliable and durable.

The second type of humidifiers most common on the market. the so-called air washers. Their design is quite simple and is in most cases a “bucket of water”, in which thin plastic discs are immersed up to half, threaded on a horizontal axis that rotates when the device. Moisture evaporates faster from the surface if you blow on it. To this end, an air fan is installed over the disc unit, directing air flow to the discs, which speeds up the evaporation of moisture from the half of the discs that rises above the water. Thus it turns out that the surface of the discs is constantly being moistened with water by constantly passing through a container of water. And a fan blowing from above speeds up the evaporation of water from the surface of the discs.

For better “adhesion” of water to the disk, their surface is specially made rough.

When choosing a sink, pay attention to the diameter and number of disks mounted on the axle. This type of humidifier provides natural evaporation of water (molecular fraction of moisture will go into the air, not steam). Only the water itself evaporates, and the salts and large impurities dissolved in it remain inside the water tank. Thanks to this the surfaces in the room will never build up a buildup of limescale, regardless of the quality of water used in the humidifier.

A positive side effect of this type of humidifier is that solid particles (dust, grit, etc.) remain inside the sink.) dragged by a fan from the outside stick to the surface of the discs and washed into a tank of water. All the dust that is sucked up by the humidifier remains inside the sink. It should be noted that the efficiency of cleaning air from dust is not high, and do not think that after starting to use this type of humidifier would eliminate the need for wet cleaning of the house. However, it can be a good help in a heavily dusty environment, such as in an apartment after the repair, where building cement dust is still flying around in the air. It is this feature that gave the name to this type. the air washer.

It is especially important to wash the body of such sinks inside. This also applies to the discs themselves (you can citric acid without heating, once a month). In some models, the drive pack is collapsible, making it easy to wash.

The effectiveness of such a humidifier will greatly depend on the surface area of the discs, the speed of air blown out and the humidity and temperature in the room. That is, if the room is very dry and hot, the humidifier will quickly saturate the air moisture. But if you reduce the air temperature or use a humidifier in a room where natural humidity is about 40-50%, the efficiency of air saturation with moisture will decrease rapidly. From this comes an additional benefit of the sink, namely the difficulty of “over-humidifying” the room. Water will simply not evaporate in very humidified air. Additionally, the air washer is often equipped with air filters, mounted on the air intake fan, which turns the humidifier actually a vacuum cleaner. The traditional disadvantage of such a solution will be the need to regularly purchase expensive branded filter elements. Our Xiaomi has no such thing. And the suction power is not so great in our sink to really make the air cleaner, at least 20%.

If the humidifiers of the first type are made in every second basement around the world, and their, then the humidifiers of the second type (air washers) are produced only a few companies. The most famous at the moment on the market are the coryphaei in this area: Venta and Boneco. Although there are others, such as Panasonic, Bork, Electrolux. The main parameter of appliance efficiency is a volume or weight of evaporated water per hour. Manufacturers often cheat and specify the maximum possible under ideal conditions (in hot, dry air). Based on this parameter, manufacturers make recommendations for the optimal area of the room to be served by a humidifier.

In addition the humidifiers are equipped with such features as a built-in hygrometer (humidity meter), clock with timer shut-off, several modes of humidifying intensity, built-in air ionizers, smart home elements, control via smartphone, backlight. night light, drying mode. Our device has: the ability to automate on/off the device depending on the time or degree of humidification, remote control and tracking through the app, several degrees of humidification speed, turning off the backlight at night.

It is the second type of humidifier I recommend to buy. And it is him I will further describe in this review.

Now let’s talk about which device we chose.

Model Xiaomi Smartmi Air Humidifier 2, is a line of household appliances Smartmi from the company Xiaomi, or Xiaomi. Purchased from Pleer online store. (the price at the time of purchase was 5390). We took the Chinese version of the device, there is also a European version. This humidifier belongs to the second type of humidifiers, that is, with natural water evaporation and air washing function.

As we can see from the last characteristic, it is suitable for humidification of one room. However, if the apartment has a natural air circulation, ie device stands in a room, the air from which moves freely into another (where there is a hood, the kitchen as an example), then the entire apartment will be humidified. That’s what we did. Put a sink in the bedroom, from there the air is drawn (with the window open) through the great room into the kitchen, where a natural hood is installed.

In our apartment before buying the washer was 22-28% humidity. Now in both rooms with the device running. 35-40%. It feels good (feels good on the nose and skin). It doesn’t get any higher, even with the humidifier on.

I have a sensor in each room, too Xiaomi (ordered it on Ali).

The result is not stunning. I think this is specific to our climate and specifically to my apartment, t.к. We always have a window open in the bedroom with a humidifier and two fans running (in the background). That is, there is constant air circulation. And the humid air is constantly being sucked into the hood. And the air washer constantly humidifies the new dry air. Once again, according to the feeling, it is enough. Stop drying out my nose and my skin stopped squeaking with dryness.

To see the result (the actual humidity in the house) you can connect the application Mi home, it is available on all smartphones. Not only can you monitor the gauges, but you can also control your sink remotely.

You can also order these units with a hygrometer, as in the pictures above. There are some with a clock, small ones without a clock, but they look nice. The interior will not spoil for sure.

Connection to the home network is configured through the Mi home app. Remotely can control functions such as on / off, switching speed (a total of 4 positions), a timer that turns on the humidifier at a given time. Also you can always be aware of the temperature and humidity in the apartment according to the readings of built-in sensors: thermometer and hygrometer. I’ll try to add a video showing how I synced the device with the app. I want to say right away that if you have a Chinese version of the sink, in the application will have to select the region of China. This can be found in the settings.

Appearance, buttons, device device.

On the top of the panel is a control panel, consisting of two touch buttons. The left button changes the brightness of indicators. The right side switches the intensity of the humidifier. The right button can be used to turn on/off the unit with a long press, about 5 seconds. Pressing them simultaneously for 5 seconds resets wi-fi settings, which may be necessary when connecting the device to the network. On the panel there are LED indicators of speed, wi-fi network connection status. And a 5-segment water level indicator.

All electronics except tank water level sensor is concentrated in the upper half of the humidifier body. Therefore, it is better to keep an eye on the device if there are children and large brazen animals (just kidding, just curious). When the upper part is removed from the tank, the fan and the drive of disc rotation are automatically switched off. And they continue their operation when the lid is put back in place.

The device itself stands on rubberized non-slip feet. (For me, it would be better to make it on castors.). Some users recommend adding a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the tank to prevent the growth of pathogens. However, be prepared that this method will add a pharmaceutical aroma to the atmosphere of the apartment).

It is possible to refill the tank either by removing the lid (useful for cleaning dirt from the inside of the tank) or through the upper air outlet grill, using the water level indicator. In the first case, try not to pour water on the water level sensor unit (in my opinion, it is not sealed). The disk block is disassembled by unscrewing the nuts in the ends, which is very convenient for cleaning the disks. Better to clean twice a month with citric acid, and once a week just rinse with running water.

This is the kind of dirt we accumulated during 4 days of operation of the humidifier without stopping, we only refilled the water. In addition to the dust, there is also a hard limescale buildup on the walls, like in a kettle. Plus the water is slightly yellowish in color (I don’t know why, maybe from the road). I rinsed with a regular dishwashing sponge and regular soap. Limescale on the glossy plastic walls just wiped off with the hard side of the sponge. If you wash the tank less often, the scale will be thicker. May have to wash it with detergent. But if you wash it at least once a week, it will wash out easily.

In fact, we wash it more often. Left 4 days for an experiment to see what accumulates in the tank.

Also rinsed the discs themselves under running water. I think once a month I would have to take them apart or completely soak them in citric acid to wash off the limescale.

The tank capacity of 4 liters is enough for 16 hours of work. Although this cannot be an exact indicator, because the evaporation rate of water depends on many reasons. For example, when there is very little water left in the tank, the discs only wet their tips in it. So less water evaporates than if the discs were completely wetted. There is no linear relationship. When working in a well-ventilated room provides about 40% humidity (with constant operation of the air intake system) in an apartment of about 40 square meters.

Noisy operation. You can leave it overnight on the first speed (if you are not a princess on a pea). At second speed, you can ignore it during the day. The third speed is distinctly audible, so it makes sense to use it in case of an urgent need to humidify the room quickly. You can’t hear the noise at all during the day because of the general hum. In a pinch, you can put it away in the kitchen at night if you don’t want to turn it off.

Air intake is through the grill on the back of the appliance. Humidified air is discharged from the top grille. House dust or small particles get into the air intake through this rear grill. I’d like to note again that it is not capable of sucking the dust of your entire apartment, if only because it does not have such a powerful air draft that the dust from one corner of the room would get into this hole. Can you imagine how the suction pipe has to suck?? That’s why I do not understand the bad reviews, where you write a disadvantage that the sink did not clean it in the apartment. Maybe it should clean your toilet as well?))) Naive guys should use their head and logic.

But all the dust that flies around will definitely get in. And for more effective air purification Xiaomi has a special device. It looks and works pretty much the same. Looks like a big white column. I took a picture of it in the store

The Asian version is equipped with an adapter for the euro outlet. There is a European version. (You understand it from the manual in Chinese or from the socket). If you buy the Asian version, it may be difficult to select the device in the app. Everything is solved by selecting the region in the app China. True, if you already have Xiaomi products for the European market in your app, there may be difficulties. Because, our region (Russia) is needed to synchronize with European devices, and for devices for the Chinese market is synchronized only when you select the region China. It would be nice to worry about this in advance.

I recommend this particular Xiaomi.

I chose it because Venta and Boneco, with all the advantages of the brand name start at 10-12 thousand and up to infinity. This washer is optimal in terms of price and quality.

And it is this type of humidifier because it is possible to use unfiltered water and create natural humidity without the likelihood of condensation on the surface.

I did not see the obvious disadvantages. Everything you might not like. human laziness.

Hello! After buying a robot-vacuum cleaner Xiaomi I became interested in other “smart devices” for the home. Shortly before the New Year a friend on a visit showed me her favorite air cleaner, though, another company, but I really liked that unit and how it works. I found its counterpart from my favorite brand Xiaomi. Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2.

Somewhere the Humidifier 2 is called an air washer, somewhere it’s called a humidifier. humidifier. It’s right about both.

I didn’t want to buy an ultrasonic humidifier because it leaves a white residue on the furniture. I wanted to clean the air and humidify it at the same time:

The washer cleans and humidifies the air by passing it through a container of water or a few wet discs that serve as filters. Dust particles remain in the water, and the air is humidified and discharged back into the room. So it creates a microclimate in the room with normal humidity.

Perfect and clean humidification is achieved through water evaporation technology, you get humidified air without impurities, which has a positive effect on the quality of the humidified environment.

Bought in one of the city stores where we found the lowest price (via Yandex.carton).

Packaging is standard. Cardboard box with handle. Included with the humidifier was an adapter for the plug (for a vacuum cleaner, we bought separately).

Humidification type: naturalMaximum capacity: 250 ml./ч.Maximum noise level: 34.3 dBaThe volume of the water tank: 4 л.Water level indicator: yes, electronicNumber of speeds: 3Power consumption: 8W.Weight: 5.17 kg.Dimensions: 43.5 cm x 30.0 cm x 30.0 cm (WxHxD)

The instruction manual is in Chinese, but it was no problem at all to understand the device. There are a lot of videos on the Internet that show how to turn the device on, how to connect to home wi-fi and how to add it to the Mi Home app. For those who have problems with this, it helps to change the home region in the settings to “Mainland China”. I now have one app app that controls all the Xiaomi devices in the house.

There is a parental control feature, which means you can disable control of the device from the buttons. But for us it is not necessary. We turn the Humidifier 2 on either from the app or simply with the buttons on the panel. You can control it with Yandex Alice, but we have not tried it.

In fact, the device is easy to use, I’ll show you.

The unit must be installed at a distance from the wall because there is an air intake grille on the back.

This air is sent to the system of 36 discs, which rotate inside the tank, wetting the water. Accordingly, the dust settles in the water, and the new, fresh, moist air goes into the room already from the grille on top.

36 blades are used for the constant circulation of water, so there is constant contact with water in the system. Thanks to 240 milliliters of water evaporated per hour, a high level of humidification of the room is achieved, in 2 square meters near the humidifier a thin layer of water vapor can appear.

You can put a drop of essential oil in the tank, but I have not tried.

The top is removable, and on the bottom we see the water tank and discs. These discs are very thin and porous (to capture more water).

You can pour water into the tank by removing the top, there are marks for the maximum. But it is much easier to simply pour water through the top grid, and the amount of water will show the glowing indicator. When there is a lot of water, the device will beep. So you can not overflow water. I just come with a jug of water and pour it into the machine.

Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 has 4 modes of operation: 3 speeds and auto mode. Automatic, as far as I’m concerned, is about the 2nd speed.

Very important! What kind of water to pour? As I understood from the reviews and reviews even before buying the Humidifier 2, people do not really bother and pour water from the tap. I have decided NOT to do this. First of all, I feel sorry for the device, because the quality of running water leaves much to be desired. Secondly, I feel sorry for myself, because this will have to breathe. We order bottled water for food purposes, the quality of which we do not doubt, it has already tested by us and not only. That is exactly what I put in the humidifier. I think it is because of this that I have not encountered any of the things many people write about over the months (the smell from the unit, having to wash it every day, etc).д.). It is as good as new, no yellowing, no dirt, no foul odor.

Yes, I did not see any dirt in the water tank after a few days. The device needs to be washed, but there is no visible and perceptible dirt. And this makes me both happy and sad at the same time. Why happy. I see. And it is frustrating because of the feeling that the air is not washed. Either I have no dust or the device is not so effective. I saw how dirty the water can be in the reviews and when visiting friends. My water is completely clean. So I decided to let the unit work a little longer without washing and draining the water. After two weeks, I saw a very slight residue of dust on the rest of the water. But then again, the water didn’t turn yellow or dry. Apparently, I have a favorable climate, we should be happy.

Therefore, be sure to fill the device only good clean water! You have to breathe and wash.

Now about the humidity

The norms of % humidity in the apartment:

Dining Room 40-60

Bathroom, kitchen 40-60

Library and work area 30-40

Bedroom 40-50

Children’s 45-60

The value prescribed by GOST depends not only on the purpose of the room, but also on the time of year. For the warm period 30-60% is provided. In this case, the figure of relative humidity in the room is 60 percent, and the maximum allowable will be 65%. For some regions, where the summer months are accompanied by high humidity, the normative value may be raised to 75%. For the cold season, the standard value of relative humidity in the room is 40-45%. The maximum permissible value is 60%.

What can I say, in my apartment without turning on the humidifier humidity varies from 10 to 30%. During the heating season, the readings are very low, although this year in the room with the humidifier we did not even turn on the radiator because of the warm winter. These indicators are. it’s dry air! What’s wrong with this air?

  • decreased elasticity of the skin, nails and hair. this results in dermatitis, peeling, microcracks and premature wrinkles;
  • Drying of the mucous membrane in the eyes. redness, unpleasant itching and a feeling of foreign bodies (“sand”);
  • Blood gets thicker, which slows down circulation and causes weakness and headaches. There is a decrease in performance, the heart is exposed to increased strain and wears out faster;
  • Viscosity of intestinal and gastric juices increases. the work of the digestive system slows down considerably;
  • dry respiratory tract. resulting in a weakening of local immunity, increasing the likelihood of colds and infectious diseases;
  • the air quality decreases. the air masses concentrate a lot of allergens, which are bound by water particles when the humidity in the room is normal.

By purchasing a humidifier I wanted to solve the problem of dry skin and mucous membranes. And in general I was wondering how much more comfortable it is to be in a room with a normal % moisture content.

Together with the Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 we bought a separate humidity and temperature sensor, also from Xiaomi. Why do we need a separate sensor if the device has its own?? Humidifier 2 transmits the information about the humidity of the air to the app, you can not find the information on the device itself, that is, it is not in front of your eyes all the time. The sensor of the device measures the humidity directly next to the humidifier in operation, and we are not sitting right next to it, of course. So this humidity data is not relevant to the other end of the room. So we decided to buy a sensor and know the correct actual values, and that they are always in sight. Plus knowing the temperature in the room.

These are the data in the room (16 meters) before turning on the device, it worked the day before, so there are no critical values, we start with 30% (34% on the humidifier). Close windows and doors when the device is in operation, otherwise it makes no sense. Any ventilation immediately lowers the humidity reached.

Almost an hour of running the device at maximum speed gave these results:

In general these are the normal values for humidity. But notice how much the sensors differ in humidity, but in temperature they are almost the same. Another hour:

In general these parameters seem to me to be ok, but it makes no sense to run the device at full speed. It can be set to first speed or to automatic mode.

I personally feel comfortable at 40% humidity. I guess I am not used to much higher values. For me, it’s already tropical. But it is easy to breathe.

The noise level of Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 is quite low, in my opinion. I can hear it at full speed, but it does not bother me at all. But when working on the first speed, you can safely sleep.

Water consumption is moderate and depends on the mode. I refill the water once a day. If the water in the device will run out, it will turn off by itself (when the mode of dehumidification is on) and even in advance there will be a message in the application.

Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2

Easy to operate, control by both app and buttons.

Economical (I thought it would waste more water).

No problem with contamination if clean water is poured! (And the reviews, I expected a nightmare)

Humidifies the air quickly (if the doors and windows are closed).

Does not produce white deposits on surfaces like ultrasonic humidifiers.

I would need a few of these for my apartment.

The accumulated humidity quickly evaporates when airing.

My air does not leave much dirt in the device (either clean or such a wash).

Summary. Air Humidifier Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 for me is a great option for quick humidification in the room, but I do not see its work on purification. For myself, I realized that I personally enjoy being at low humidity thresholds (40%), this level with this device can be easily achieved and easily maintained. I have not experienced any difficulty with the operation and care of the device. Nothing to be afraid of if you pour good water. A little disappointment. I have not noticed any particular change in my dry skin from the increased air humidity, but that’s a pity. But the dryness in the nose and eyes is really less. And I know that this is the only way our local immunity works. I recommend Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2!

Xiaomi seems to be going back to its “origins”, when the devices were sold in ascetic, no-fuss packaging made of cardboard and made of recycled materials. You can remember for instance the first smartphone from the Redmi series. Only in those cases the boxes were almost armor-piercing, you could stand on them and they did not crumple under the weight of a person. Here. the box is not as stiff, but sturdy enough to keep the appliance in standard shipping.

Inside the additional foam cushioning to prevent the contents from bumping

The appliance consists of only three components. the electronic power unit with the drive and fan, the drum and the water tank.

The plug is correct, for our outlets.

The lower half of the device is a reservoir for filling it with water. The maximum capacity is 4 liters. If the outer side is made of rough white plastic, which to the touch reminds one of the housings of old computers from 90-s, the inner cavity for the water is made of gray glossy plastic

On the two opposite sides from the inside you can see these grooves. the shafts of the drum with a matrix of disks rest on them. I’ll show it later

In the lower part of the tank, almost at the very bottom, there are special holes. water seeps into them and a sensor, hidden in the inner cavity of the wall, monitors the water level in this tank

Let’s go higher, to the very edge. here are two contacts by which the lower half of the humidifier and the upper half are synchronized. And not only the water level data is sent, but also the integrity of the assembly is monitored. For example, if a child or dog runs by and knocks over a running device, it immediately shuts down, and your smartphone, wherever you are, receives a network notification of this incident.

Four feet and a pair of holes in the bottom of the reservoir for emptying excess water. In the center. a sticker with technical information

The feet are made of good rubber, 6-7 mm, sticking out over the body

Drum. Working part. Here I discovered something completely new. Firstly about the construction. the drum consists of 36 disks, with gaps about 5mm

The gear caps are screwed onto the center shaft of the drum

The matrix is easy to disassemble, you can easily remove the disks, just unscrew one pinion cover

All discs have a hexagonal central hole. This is to ensure that they sit on the shaft in a well-defined position.

so that all discs touch each other with these protrusions and provide a gap between them

The surface of each disc is rough to the touch because it has a honeycomb structure. It’s made for better wetting of the discs in the water. The view of the honeycomb under a microscope. Since this humidifier is also a humidifier and air washer. Over time, these cells will accumulate dust. You have to disassemble the drum and wash the 36 discs separately. The developer recommends washing the device once every two weeks.

Set the drum in the grooves on the reservoir

During operation, the drum rotates at a slow speed. The plates (there are 36 of them) are moistened with water, which in turn is blown out by air currents. The air is forced by the fan built into the e-power part. This ensures the natural humidification of the air in the room.

Here is actually the main half of the device. The length of the cord is about one.5 meters

A large area of the back of the module is occupied by the air intake grille. The thermometer/hygrometer sensors are hidden behind the small grill on the left side above.

The power cable comes out from the bottom of the housing

There is nothing on the other sides. Let’s take a look at the near-inner part. How to disassemble the device is not clear, because I could not find the fixing screws.

Almost all around the edge is a curb with sides beveled inward, to make it easier to mount the module to the tank. Here you can see the very two contacts that short with the reservoir contacts. It is not possible to combine the two modules in the wrong way.

On the side there is a motor gear that drives the disc drum

Fan with longitudinal blades. It blows air upwards, sucking it in from the side of the back

After installing the module on the tank, the construction seems to be monolithic

Examination of the upper part. Almost half of this is taken up by the grille from which the humidified air is blown.

The grid has a recess in the center

This is the grate through which the water is poured. This indentation is made to concentrate the water flowing into the middle part of the drum. When there is not enough water, the LED indicator on the front panel blinks. But as you pour water in, the indicators light up one by one, showing the current water level. Device automatically starts to work when at least 1 indicator is constantly lit.

The controls are made in the form of separate notches on the body. these are touch buttons. In the photo, the control interfaces are not particularly well visible, but in general and in reality they remain barely noticeable. In the center there is a WI-FI activity indicator, i.e.е. The device must still be connected to the access point via a smartphone.

The right button. switches the modes of the device, which are only 4. minimum, medium, maximum and automatic. they only affect the fan speed. Regardless of the modes, the drum rotation speed is always the same. Hold this button down for a long time to turn off the unit.

The left button changes the brightness of the backlight (2 modes) or turns it off completely if it disturbs at night. There is also a 5-segment display of water level in the tank.

In the main window in the center of the program in the large font displays the humidification level in percentage, a little higher in the fine print. the temperature. I don’t like the implementation with the fonts being smoothed. The three dots on the upper right give access to the settings. There are three buttons at the bottom. on and off./off, operation modes (there are 4), auto-off timer. If you pull the bottom toolbar up, you will see additional settings. beeper off/on, front panel backlight control, drying mode setting, parental control (child protection), warning about “improper device behavior”

In the settings there are two important points. automation and general settings. Since the device can be embedded into the Xiaomi ecosystem, the “automation” includes settings for scenarios and patterns of behavior of both the humidifier and other “smart” peripherals.

In the general settings you can change the location, the name of the device, configure the BLE gateway, update the firmware.

For measuring temperature and humidity I used an AM201 sensor.

The hygrometer, as expected, overestimates the humidity. In my case, the difference was 8%. With the temperature, the difference is not so great. 0.5-0.6 degrees Celsius

Power consumption in max mode is almost 6W. A little. Sometimes in peaks it goes a little higher. If you unplug the device while it is running, and then plug it back in, it won’t work. you’ll need a manual startup.

Noise Turns out to be quite quiet. For example, with the first fan speed, you can even fall asleep peacefully next to the bed. The Deerma F600 doesn’t have that. On the second and third speeds there is a slight but tolerable hum. If to put a device in a couple of meters from a bed, it is possible to fall asleep also.

Water consumption I weighed the water tank, then after an hour on max mode I did it again. The difference was 195g or 195ml/hr.

Compared to a “keg” Deerma F600

Deerma F600 is cheaper, more capacious (5L tank), more productive (about 300ml/hour with possible ±50ml fluctuations), but at the same time it is rather picky about water quality. Ultrasonic principle of operation, it is spraying water as is. with bacteria and sediment in the form of white plaque on the furniture, if unfiltered. Another thing about ultrasonic humidification is the fog in the room, as if a bunch of people were stoned.

Device from Xiaomi is more elegant in this respect because uses the principle of natural humidification, thanks to the drum with a disc matrix, which evaporates and blows moisture and to water quality device unpretentious. Still, over time, slowly but surely dirt accumulates there. In my case, the water turned yellow and there were clogs.

Consequently, requires regular maintenance device. washing every couple of weeks. However, since there is no silver-plated material, the bacteria in the water will multiply rapidly and, accordingly, there will be an odor in the room. This would make cleaning the humidifier much more frequent, especially if there is a thin layer of slime on the walls. As an option, it is possible to add antiseptic in the poured water. There are air conditioners with silver supplies, but they are few times more expensive than this one. I can call it an air conditioner, because an allergic person felt better exactly in the room where this device was working, during hard time for him in May. However, on a global scale, it seems to me that the power is still not enough to clean the air better, because the dust on the objects is deposited as it was before the use of this device.

After a short time you get used to the device very quickly, and treat it as something ordinary, like an electric kettle or a microwave oven. Though those, who see this white parallelepiped for the first time, are very much interested in what it is. Of the major hassles, what I can highlight is the need for regular cleaning. Among the minor drawbacks are the touch buttons, it would be desirable with tactile feedback. In all other respects, the device was more convenient and practical than the F600, although this ultrasonic humidifier is also quite good in performance, but it can not be used in the “smart home” system.

Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 review

The traditional Xiaomi Smartmi Air Humidifier 2 CJXJSQ02ZM is very similar to the LG Mini On. If you look closely, the similarity of these air washers (although again I repeat my findings clean the air all such devices insofar) noticeable even externally, and certainly internally they have almost the same technical implementation, the only difference that the novelty of Xiaomi additionally stuffed with electronics that your computer.

This review will stand out somewhat because the Smartmi Humidifier 2 illustrates perhaps the future of home appliances. If you don’t consider yourself a tech geek and you’re not interested in building so-called smart homes, then I suggest you read up to the word Wi-Fi and then move on to the headline efficiency and performance.

Traditional cold-acting humidifier with convenient water filling

Inside the minimalist exterior, but very well made and elegant snow-white housing there is a set of 36 flat discs that rotate in the bottom half of the device, which is a water tank. Capacity almost identical to the LG humidifier up to the MAX mark you can fill 4.3 liters. Yes, I wish there was more. Looking ahead to say that this parameter, the capacity of the water tank, as in the case of the South Korean, almost the only weakness relative to competitors from Boneco.

But the modesty of Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 water tank is compensated by the utmost simplicity of refilling water from any container directly through the upper grid, from which the humidified air is blown into the room. Actually, this is another feature that makes Xiaomi and LG alike.

A set of 36 discs each 185mm in diameter is mounted on a hexagonal plastic axle, they are all individually removable (unlike LG’s non-disassembly drum), which makes them easy to care for. Please keep in mind that once in 1-2 weeks it makes sense to wash this disc set, better in dishwasher at 50 degrees, but you can also just in a bucket with a soapy solution. Disc area is similar to LG Mini On.

Yes, they are smaller in diameter than the Boneco W2055D, but, like the latter, they have a textured surface that improves water retention, and consequently the subsequent humidification of the air blown through them. As a result, the claimed humidifying capacity is comparable to the leaders and is 0.25 l/h. Our measurement showed that the second (of three) speeds consumed 190-210 ml/h. At the third (maximum) speed 250-270 ml/hr. That is the claimed figures even overlap.

Interestingly, the Chinese showed their originality here, the threads on the ends of the hexagonal axle are left. That is the drive end discs with teeth (by the way, due to the fact that the teeth are on both end discs, the drum can be put either side in the tank) unscrew clockwise and screw up counterclockwise.

On the top panel of the device, besides the grid, through which the humidified air is blown and water is poured, there are 2 control buttons and 10 LEDs. The right button is responsible for switching on and off the device on a long press, and with a single touch (buttons are touch) switches on and off 4 modes of the fan: weak, medium, strong (conditionally 3 power modes) and automatic.

Xiaomi Smartmi Humidifier 2: review, operation and setup

From left to right: the button to adjust the brightness of the LEDs, 5 LEDs for water level, Wi-Fi indicator, 4 indicators to identify the operating mode, on/off button and mode switch.

Note that the humidifier works very quietly even at the third power. On the second and even more so the first with it can easily sleep in the same room. At the same time, the device does not make any gurgles or squeaks, only the quiet rustling of the fan. By the way, in theory, the automatic mode automatically adjusts the fan speed to the current humidity in the room, but in our case it always worked on the second power. The explanation is simple, the actual humidity in the room without the humidifier was 27%, and after its operation for a few days 38%. Obviously, the device thought: in these limits the middle speed should be on.

The left button on the control panel of Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 is responsible for switching three modes of LED lighting in a circle: bright / dim / LEDs are not lit. In addition to the 4 LEDs under each fan mode, there are 5 more LEDs that schematically show the water level in the tank, and one more to alert you to the Wi-Fi.

Yes, not technogeeks further flip to the headline efficiency and performance

The Xiaomi humidifier is a real working element of the smart home

Looks like we’ve finally lived up to the times when the humidifier learned how to go online and order pizza. The Xiaomi Smartmi Humidifier 2 has a built-in minicomputer with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (5GHz networks are not supported) and Bluetooth! I should say at once, I personally think that for 95% of potential buyers this is a pampering, and this humidifier does its job perfectly well without connecting to the Internet. Nevertheless, the wireless access to the network allowed to realize a bunch of additional options, and judging by the reviews, quite a lot of people use them or at least play with them.

First, this traditional humidifier has a built-in hygrometer and thermometer. To repeat what I wrote about other traditional humidifiers, a hygrometer in such devices is not necessary in principle. Because it is impossible to humidify the air more than it can be in the natural environment under ambient conditions. In fact, even up to 50 percent relative humidity is impossible to achieve with such a humidifier. This is true for all other humidifiers, and is true for Xiaomi’s products as well.

But even taking this into account, the Smartmi Humidifier 2 is still more of a toy, because its accuracy is similar to all the other hygrometers built into the device itself. There is no sense in showing the humidity right next to the humidifier as it will always be much higher during operation than in the opposite corner of the room?

Nevertheless, through a special application Mi Home to manage all the smart devices Xiaomi (and they actually produced a lot, just do not sell them on the market officially, however, as this humidifier, imported here only under the gray scheme) can set complex operating scenarios. For example, it is possible to turn on (or off) the humidifier at a certain power when the humidity reaches a certain level, to program the on/off timers.

Screenshots of Mi Home for Android, through which you can control the humidifier Xiaomi Smartmi Humidifier 2 remotely via the Internet

Through the app, you can lock the buttons on the humidifier itself, a kind of childproofing. On his smartphone, he also receives a notification about the use of water in the tank. Although this alarm is produced by the device itself with an audible signal. At the same time, it automatically stops and blinks the left level LED, saying there is no water.

By the way, it is logical that the water level sensor stops the humidifier operation not when the water is completely depleted, because at a very low level the effectiveness of humidification is minimal, because only the disc tips touch the water, but when the remainder of about 1 liter. So you can actually say that you have to add water every 3.3 liters (4.3 total capacity minus the 1 liter minimum level).

To be fair I would point out that with all the quality of the materials used, and they really are at the level of top-end Boneco, not only the hygrometer cheats heartily. The water level gauge also shows plus/minus 5%. This is not so noticeable on the device itself, where there are only 5 LEDs for approximate evaluation (that is, each is responsible for about 20% of the entire scale), and in the application on the phone, where the level is displayed with an accuracy of 1%. In fact it is enough to turn off and on the device so that the readings float by this plus/minus 5%. Another thing is that, just as with the hygrometer, it makes no sense to know the water level with an accuracy of 1%.

The water level sensor is hidden in this compartment, it also has a mark MIN and MAX to fill the water without the orientation of the LED. The top contacts are also responsible for the device recognizing the removal of the top unit, after which it automatically stops.

The temperature in the room the device also shows only in the app. There are also a couple of very minor functions, for example, you can turn off audible alarms.

Therefore I think that connecting a humidifier to the Internet and remote controlling it from the moon through the Mi Home app and your smartphone is for real geeks, who use all the company’s products and actually create a smart home system. For them, the humidifier will be useful as a BLE gateway, through which other smart devices Xiaomi can access the Internet.

Within the framework of our rating, these features do not give bonus points and do not promote Xiaomi Smartmi Zhimi Air Humidifier 2 higher in the ranking table (it is already high there due to its direct capabilities), but to describe them all I think it was necessary, because it perfectly illustrates what a humidifier of the future can be. It would seem a simple device, but the Chinese have already twisted. It would be better to give it the ability not to update the firmware via the Internet, but to download water from the water supply.

The problem with adding to Mi Home?

First, there is no official translation of the Mi Home app for Android. The Chinese there is something minimally translated, but it can be neglected. So you need to put an amateur version. The main three on the Web, I personally tried the Mi Home from EDA-studio. They also have a Russified plugin (module for the application, which works specifically with the humidifier).

To add a humidifier to the Mi Home app, you need to specify in the Mi Profile settings that you are in Mainland China. If you specify Russia, then no matter how many times you turn on / off Bluetooth on your smartphone (it is necessary for the phone to find the added device for the first time) it will not appear in the application. The software will then guide you through a few primitive steps and you can communicate with the humidifier via your phone.

If you press both buttons on the control panel when off (but with the plug plugged in), then the settings are reset, this is necessary in particular to connect to another Wi-Fi network.

In the following, I publish more dry information according to the principles of rating. Exactly the same format as for all my other air humidifier reviews.

Efficiency and performance

Considering the very principle of “natural” humidification by blowing air through the wet disc drum, the final performance is quite adequate (if not exceeding the recommended area of the serviced rooms). 6 points.

Ease of use and maintenance

Even with tap water, the Xiaomi Smartmi Humidifier II does not leave any buildup in the room, and it only needs to be washed of deposits once every couple of weeks, you can wash the disks in the dishwasher at a temperature no higher than 50. It is also recommended to soak them in a solution of citric acid every couple of months if you use tap water. The drum is collapsible, the diameter of the discs is not very large, you can use a bucket or basin. Due to the fact that the tank is never emptied to 0, and you refill water to a minimum residual of about 1 liter (at this level, the device stops and asks for more water), once every 3-4 days it is worth draining these residues, rinse the tank and pour clean water.

Hygrostat formally exists, but the readings are only available through the Mi Home smartphone app. And there’s even an automatic operating level that reduces the power to minimum when it reaches about 40 percent. In reality, the humidistat readings, and therefore the algorithm of automatic operation are not very adequate, because due to the principle of natural humidification it is almost impossible to bring the humidity higher than 50, and measuring it right next to the device is unreasonable. But I think that the hygrostat is not necessary for these devices, so what the heck. Also, without the Mi Home app, there is no humidistat for you in principle.

I would like the water tank to be larger, 4.3 liters. But you are faced with a very rare humidifier, in which you can pour water directly from the top through the grid, from which blows humidified air. And thanks to the 5 water level indicators, you can do this as intuitively as possible. This is really very convenient.

The noise of the humidifier is very quiet: on the third speed it generates 13-15 dB, on the second 8-10 dB, on the minimum 3-5 dB. If it had a bigger tank, 6-7 liters, it would get the maximum score. And so. 9 points.

The quality of materials and assembly

Here everything is fine, can not complain, quality plastic, elegant appearance, no extraneous odors after a few hours of operation, in a word Xiaomi. 5 points.

Air purification, antibacterial functions

Even though it is purely formal, but the water filtration is stated, as without it. But it should be given credit that the Chinese did not even claim any more marketing tinsel, no ionizers, no ultraviolet lamps, no silver rods. Though technically it is one point, but for the honesty we want to give another one. No, I’ve got it, 1 point.

Additional functions, features

The air humidifier Xiaomi Smartmi Humidifier 2 has three power adjustments, plus an auto mode, the ability to turn off the LEDs, a notification and shutdown after running out of water, fragrance (just add to water). It honestly gets 5 points for that.

Separately on the features after connecting to the internet and adding to the Mi Home mobile app. Yes, then there is access to the thermometer, hygrometer readings (they are located on the back wall on the top left), on/off automation based on scripts, timers to turn on/off at random times, control panel locking from children, turning off the buzzer.

And that would be enough for 5 more points. But let us look soberly. Connecting to the Mi Home is basically a tricky procedure, not really accessible to everyone. Who really needs this kind of smart tech, yes, for those this is a big plus. But for those who do not build a smart home, the objective conveniences of all this electronic stuffing does not bear, and the banal pouring of water from the top, or an extra couple of liters of tank capacity is much more important. In total for all these gimmicks we give an additional one point. 6 points in total for the extra features.

A sure sign that the product is not for the market Chinese plug. Note the very high quality workmanship, almost Apple! But the stores put adapters, we had in the box was rarely decent

Conclusions of the review

The only discipline in which the humidifier Xiaomi Smarmi Air Humidifier 2 lags behind the Boneco W2055D water tank capacity. Otherwise, it’s even a smarter, more convenient and stylish solution to raise the humidity in the room. Its very close competitor from the Koreans LG Mini On bypasses it with a collapsible drum with removable disks and quieter operation. And it uses less power, only 4 watts. And the price I’m not even talking about. You can buy Xiaomi Smarmi Air Humidifier 2 for less than 8 000! This puts it in the lead in price/quality terms with a significant margin over the competition.

The only thing to soberly understand that officially it is not imported, so that the warranty may be a real problem, in case of what service centers Xiaomi it for free maintenance will not accept. It remains only to present claims directly to the store, which, let’s be honest, does not always end with success, especially if you bought the product remotely over the Internet. But such a price is worth a small risk, do you think?

Controls

When you plug in the sink, all the LEDs light up for a few seconds, and then the sink goes into automatic mode. The button to the right cyclically switches between wash modes. There are four LEDs in total, one for automatic washing (depending on humidity) and three for manual washing. In the different modes only the fan speed changes, the discs always rotate at the same speed. Further there are indicators of current mode and wi-fi indicator. It lights steadily if the unit is plugged in and blinks otherwise. To the left are the LEDs for the water level indicator. The table lists the indication modes: In my opinion, the level indicator is one of the main advantages of the appliance. In passing by, a quick glance is enough to know whether you need to add water or not. And for those who like accuracy, you can always see the level to the nearest percent in the app. The only fault is the unevenness of the indication, when only one LED lights up out of five, there may be 40% more water in the tank. But in practice it turned out that the small amount of water reduces the effectiveness of humidification.к. the disks are not wetted well and that’s why 40% of the tank is not enough.

Lastly, the button on the left switches the light modes of the indicators, there are three in total: bright, dim and off. The picture below shows bright and dim mode, with the same settings, for clarity: The downside is that I think the buttons are touch-sensitive, and when you wipe the dust they are constantly pressed unintentionally. Of course, I understand why the manufacturer has done so. the mechanical buttons can get sour because of high humidity, but I do not like them, thankfully they almost do not have to be pressed.

Appendix

The rest of the wash settings are available as usual in the app. To connect, open MiHome, press both buttons on the device for 5 seconds until you hear a beep, then the program will prompt you to add a new device and download a widget.

The main widget screen shows the current humidity level, water level in the tank, air temperature. Below buttons for switching on/off, mode change and timer. And if you pull up from the bottom you will get access to the device settings. Here you can mute the sound, change the brightness of indicators, turn on the drying mode, when the sink will dry the tank for another 8 hours if there is not enough water.

There is nothing interesting in the additional settings, except, probably, the BLE-gateway mode. The sink can connect to bluetooth devices from the Xiaomi ecosystem and make them available online. True, there aren’t many of these devices. the Mijia Hygrothermograph temperature and humidity sensor, the smart flower pot, the Mi Flower Monitor soil monitor and three smart locks. Also, the dishwasher sends notifications when the water runs out or the tray separates from the top.

And of course the air washer wouldn’t be “smart” if it didn’t have automation capabilities. Device can be a trigger, triggering scenarios on over/under humidity/temperature levels or on/off. And also, in the scenario, the device can turn on / off and switch modes. For myself I adjusted the transition to the first (silent) mode after 22:00 and return to the maximum third at 9:00. And also, I set the device to turn off when the humidity is over 55% and turn it on when it is less than 50%. Only the humidity data I took from the ZigBee sensor aqara, located in the center of the room.

Shipping, packaging

The air washer was delivered from the warehouse. Since I placed the order in the morning, it was delivered the next day by a courier service DPD. This is probably my fastest shipping from the Chinese online store.

The box with the sink was well wrapped with polyethylene foam and duct tape with the G-ruston logo. On the box itself there is a schematic picture of the sink and the manufacturer’s logo: On the side there is a sticker with characteristics: On the back there is only the manufacturer’s name: On the top there is a convenient carrying handle: The top and bottom of the sink are packed in foam molds, and wrapped in a half plastic bag: The two halves of the sink are lined with polyethylene foam: The top has a sticker warning that the protective gasket between the halves must be removed before use. Also, that the water tank and discs should preferably be washed once a week.
