Apple Watch Series 3 Unboxing and Setup

Setting up your tariff plan

You can activate Cellular when you first set up your Apple Watch. During setup, find the option to set up cellular, then follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also set up Apple’s Cellular Watch app later:

  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  • Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Data Transfer.
  • Tap Cellular Settings.
  • Follow the instructions for your carrier. You need to contact your operator for help.

Here’s what you need

  • Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS Cellular) or Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS Cellular) with the latest watchOS
  • iPhone 6 or later with the latest iOS
  • Cellular plan eligible for cellular operators
  • Your iPhone and Apple Watch must be using the same carrier
  • You must be on your carrier’s network

If you have an enterprise or corporate cellular plan, check with your company or carrier to see if they support this feature. Prepaid invoices and some older accounts are not supported. To make sure your account is eligible, contact the operator.

Change operator

Your iPhone and Apple Watch must be using the same carrier. If you are changing carriers on your iPhone, you must delete the previous data plan on your Apple watch and register for the new plan. Here’s how:

  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  • Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Data Transfer.
  • Apple watches should automatically switch to the carrier that your iPhone is using. If you need to add a new plan, click Add New Plan, and then follow the onscreen instructions. If your previous plan still appears in Apple Watch app, you can uninstall it.

About international roaming

  • Mobile roaming is not supported outside the coverage area.
  • For LTE and UMTS coverage used worldwide, Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS Cellular) and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS Cellular) are available in three regional models: North and South America, Mainland China, and Europe / Asia Pacific. Unlike the iPhone, there is no worldwide Apple Watch model that supports all cellular bands used worldwide, so it is not possible for an Apple watch to roam.
  • When your Apple Watch is connected to your iPhone or has previously joined a Wi-Fi network, you can still use all of your Apple Watch capabilities, even if the cellular network is not available.

Transferring Your Cellular Plan to a New Apple Watch

When you’re ready to start using your new Apple Watch, you can transfer cellular data from your old watch to your new one. Here’s how:

  • Remove your data plan from your old Apple Watch. You can do this using the Apple Watch app or by erasing your old Apple watch.
  • Pair a new Apple Watch from your iPhone. During installation, click “Cellular settings” add a tariff plan.
  • Some carriers will allow you to transfer your existing plan to your new Apple Watch directly from the Apple Watch app.
  • If you don’t see the transfer option for your cellular plan, contact your carrier for assistance.

Connecting to a cellular network

Apple Watch with Cellular automatically switches to the most energy efficient wireless available: it can be connected to the iPhone when it is nearby, via Wi-Fi or cellular. When your watch connects to cellular, it uses LTE networks. If LTE is not available, your watch will try to connect to UMTS if your carrier supports it.

When your watch connects to a cellular network, you can check the signal strength from the control center or in the watch face explorer. To open Control Center, press and hold at the bottom of the screen, then swipe up.

The cell button turns green when you have a connection. Green dots show signal strength.

Cell buttons will turn white when your cellular plan is active, but your watch is connected to your phone using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi internet.

Apple Watch won’t sync with iPhone

Now we will figure out why the Apple Watch does not sync with the iPhone and what needs to be done to solve the problem.

This article applies to all iPhone 11 / XS (r) / X / 8/7/6 and Plus models on iOS 13. Older versions may have different or missing menu items and hardware support specified in the article.

First, we check the connection of a pair of watch phone.

In a situation when a red iPhone icon is displayed or during pairing it is not possible to see the “i” icon, we connect the smart watch to the device again. You can solve the problem by correctly connecting the gadgets, creating a gap and reconnecting the pair.

Checking the connection of two gadgets

The most accurate diagnosis of the lack of connection is as follows. My watch is not receiving new notifications, calls or messages from iPhone.

When the two devices are not paired, a red cross appears on the Apple Watch face. Another option to display the absence of a pair is the crossed-out phone icon.

A green phone icon is displayed when pairing correctly.

We connect two devices

If there are problems with the synchronization of the smartwatch with the iPhone, we perform pairing again. We follow the instructions clearly:

The process of replacing communication elements requires a certain skill and experience from the user. In order not to aggravate the situation, it is better to contact the service center with hardware problems.

The practice of connecting Apple Watch 3 to a mobile operator’s network

As you know, thanks to eSIM technology, the new Apple Watch 3 can directly and without a physical SIM connect to the network of a mobile operator and work almost like a full-fledged smartphone.

The very procedure for activating the mobile communication service in these Smart-watches is as simple as possible and, as practice shows, does not require any special skills and knowledge from the user.

How To Fix My Apple Watch Won’t Pair With My iPhone [Solved]

And even taking into account the fact that in different countries and for different companies this very procedure is somewhat different, in most cases, in order to connect your Apple Watch 3 to the mobile network (where possible), you do not even need to call the operator. In our case, the regular setup wizard, which is provided in the “My Watch” application (in iOS 11), and the minimum “English with translator” were enough to register on the operator’s website and complete the activation of the service.

Here, of course, we will clarify that your Apple watch (of course, in the LTE version) is connected to the network of a foreign operator (specifically. Bell Mobility). Domestic operators (and very many non-domestic ones too), as you know, do not work with Apple-SIM yet. However, according to rumors, Megafon has been testing eSIM technology since last year, but the current legislation does not yet allow it to be implemented properly (for more details about working with Megafon, see the website).

In our case, the experience with connecting Apple Watch 3 to the network of a mobile operator was, so to speak, minimally memorable. In a good way.

The Canadian Bell Mobility has reduced the entire procedure for activating Smart-watches in the network to five screens following each other. At the first, financial information was presented, then it was necessary to log in to the “MyBell” system (the account was pre-registered), confirm your emergency address and, in fact, confirm the application in the “My Watch” application. For everything about everything. about 2 minutes (for an English-speaking user, it took less than a minute for the same). The operator notified about the successful completion of the activation procedure with a text message.

After connecting Apple Watch 3 to the network, the watch should automatically receive the same phone number that is registered on the iPhone SIM.

And so it happened. But in our case, the operator notified via SMS that a separate number was assigned to the Smart-watch (the so-called “device identification number”) so that “reporting would not be violated” when invoicing. And this was somewhat puzzling, since the received number was unknowingly accepted as a separate number for the Apple Watch. Then we sorted it out. So yes. after activating the mobile function, the real phone number of the Apple Watch is the same as that of the iPhone to which it is “tied”.

You can check / manage traffic, log into your account in the operator’s system, delete the existing one and choose another tariff plan for Smart-watches in the “Cellular” section of the “My Watch” application in the iPhone.

By the way, the clock does not show the connection to the cellular network instantly, sometimes you have to wait a little (about half a minute). If you don’t want to wait, you can look at the connection status in the “Control Center” (swipe up the screen): the cellular network icon should be green (if it is white, then the Apple Watch 3 network is “seen”, but is currently connected to WI- FI or iPhone). If the connection is unstable, then you can put the Explorer dial, it conveniently shows the signal quality indicator.
