TP-Link connect to TV. How to set static IP and DNS on TV

What to do if the TV does not connect to the Internet?

We continue our cycle of materials devoted to the problems of Internet connection on TV. This time we will deal with a problem in which the TV does not connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or via Lan cable. The instructions should help those who have a network found, but cannot be synchronized with it. The process breaks off precisely at the connection stage. Perhaps the communication procedure does not begin, freezes, breaks away or ends without the expected result. There may be additional messages about the problem or without it.

Previously, we have already covered a large number of ways that help if the TV is connected without access to the Internet. That is, the solutions indicated there are effective in cases where the connection manages to establish, but only with the local network of the router, but it is not possible to go to the Internet. We also figured out a problem in which the TV stops seeing a Wi-Fi network.

Why does the TV not connect to the Internet?

There are many reasons that may prevent you from setting a stable Internet access. What are they characteristic of TVs of different manufacturers: from LG or Samsung to the less famous Haier, Kivi. Despite the differences in operating systems, the essence remains the same in each case.

Why does the TV not connect to the Internet:

  • The incorrectly introduced password from Wi-Fi is the most banal and at the same time frequent problem;
  • incorrectly set time;
  • active filtering of connected devices by MAC address;
  • too loaded or unsupported channel is used;
  • The encryption technology is not supported on TV;
  • bugs on TV;
  • The TV does not support hardware or systematically 5 GHz;
  • DHCP server is disconnected;
  • too weak signal from the router.

Why connect a router to TV?

Connecting the router to the TV, first of all, is necessary for the operation of those of the TV setting functions that are associated with the Internet. Most modern TVs have a special option called Smart TV. It provides many additional functions.

  • Internet access using a unique TV browser;
  • the ability to watch movies and TV shows through special applications and online cinema;
  • the ability to enter the video chat, as well as if you have a webcam, make video calls using special applications;
  • You can use the YouTube service to watch movies;
  • You can access popular social networks: Instagram, classmates;
  • You can install applications from Google Play Store.

All these options turn the TV into a multifunctional multimedia device.

What you need to connect the TV on the Internet over the cable?

For a wiring Internet diagram to the TV, you will need to comply with several conditions and have a number of devices through the cable. Namely:

Before connecting, find out the type of network (by which protocol the provider works). You can do this by contacting the technical support service or having familiarized yourself with the terms of the contract with the company. Protocol options: PPPOE, L2TP, PPTP, dynamic or static IP.

The pros and cons of this connection method

What good can be in the cable connection of the Internet in principle? Why is this bunch of wires, if you can use the Wi-Fam? Yes, it is possible, but firstly, not all TVs are built-in Wi-Fi modules. If you are a wireless connection, but the TV module does not have to buy it separately.

If you need to use the Internet not only on TV, but also on PC and phone, connect TV to the Internet using a cable through a router

Secondly, the data is transmitted much faster by the wire than by “wi-fi”. Almost all routers cut speed. Plus, they have to distribute a signal for several devices at once. the signal and speed are divided between the participants of the local network.

Thirdly, cable connection is stable than wired. Data failures will occur less often.

The network cable can be connected directly to PC

The minus of the method, of course, in the number of wires. They do not always fit into the interior. over, it is inconvenient. If the router and TV is far from each other. all the more. You have to either buy a long cord, or rearrange the router closer to TV.

If you do not have a router and you do not want to use it, but there is a provider’s cable, you can insert the cord right into the TV. You will not have to buy a router. If TV is not equipped with a Wi-Fi module, the direct connection of the cable will be the only budget exit.

Router or direct connection. what to choose depending on the Internet protocol

The most important criterion that defines the type of cable connection is the protocol. If you have a dynamic or static IP, you can safely connect to the TV directly. In this case, the cable connection and through the router will be available.

If you have PPPOE, L2TP or PPTP, only a router is suitable here. The TV does not recognize such types of connections.

The choice of a router

TV brand or other indicators have absolutely no importance when choosing a router. It should be chosen based on personal preferences. The fact is that for normal operation the Smart TV function does not require any special equipment. The TV itself in terms of connecting to the Internet is no different from the same laptop or tablet. And you can connect Smart TV to a wireless network through any Wi-Fi router or using a network cable.

Connection options

There are two ways to configure the network on TV.

With the help of the wire

This is the easiest way to connect, in which one end of the LAN cable is connected to TV, and the second with a router.

Settings are carried out according to the algorithm described above, only at the connection point of choosing a “wire” is required. Then the system will also ask for the input of the name and password of the network, if it is set by settings.

By Wi-Fi

It’s about a wireless connection method. If the TV is old and does not have a built.in module, then the connection is carried out through a special console. It connects to the TV and wirelessly connects to the router. For this, a USB input is used. Modern consoles have the appearance of a standard “flash drive”.

If the user has a modern TV, then most of them have built.in wireless modules. Connection is directly.

tp-link, connect, static

note! For normal viewing online channels, you need a connection speed exceeding 20 Mbps.

IPTV basic settings on tp-link

TP-Link devices are widespread in the domestic market. They are popular due to a relatively small cost in combination with reliability and ease of setting. However, “users” who want to use their router to connect IPTV digital television may encounter certain difficulties.

Full support of IPTV was implemented only in the latest TP-Link models. On older devices that can be found in abundance in home networks and small offices, it is not provided. Partially the problem is solved by the inclusion of IGMP support, but this function is not present in all devices. Therefore, before proceeding with the direct setting of digital television, it is necessary to make the basic settings of your TP-Link:

tp-link, connect, static

If the IPTV settings section of the settings are missing in the route web-integrate, then this TP-Link model does not support it and you should think about buying a more modern router.

IPTV configuration

TP router settings for IPTV quite. Therefore, even a novice user can cope with this task.

Some differences can only be depending on whether the VLAN ID provider is used or not.

Without VLAN ID

IPTV setting scheme without using VLAN ID is suitable for most providers. On the example of one of the most common TP-Link TL-WR740N models, it looks like this:

After performing the above actions, connect a television prefix to the selected port and enjoy watching digital television. Active IGMP Proxy mode will allow you to do this on a wireless network.

With VLAN ID

IPTV connection diagram using VLAN ID is much less common. Usually it is used in some regional representative offices “as well as the providers“ Tattelecom ”and“ AIST ”.

In the case of using the VLAN ID provider, the first thing the user needs to do is to find out its value in the support service. Then you need to perform actions:

Then it remains only to select the LAN port to which the television prefix will connect, and install the IPTV mode for it. After that, the TP-Link router is ready to broadcast digital television.

Wired connection

It is the wired connection that is a priority to use. Firstly, the data transfer rate in this case will be the maximum possible (from 100 Mbps and above), and secondly, the response delay is the minimum. And at the same time, the load on the router with active data transfer will be less. the rest of the devices connected to this router will also work more stable.

To implement a wired connection, it will be necessary to purchase a “twisted pair” cable (sometimes called “LAN cable”). This is an 8-pin wire at the ends of which there are connectors RJ-45.

It is worth considering that in each router there is a port for the RJ-45 connector, marked as “WAN” (and indicated by yellow or white). It will not work through it through it and TV will not work, since this connector is designed only to connect the cable through which the device “receives the Internet”.

Simple wireless connection

A wireless connection with a router is available only for those TVs in which there is Wi-Fi support (you can clarify the presence of an adapter using the instructions). But the model of the router does not matter. it is enough only that it “can” work with the standard 802.11n (there are in all routers released after 2008).

The connection is carried out as follows:

  • turn on the router, if necessary, turn off the lock by the MAC address (by default it is disabled in all routers);
  • open “Settings” on the TV, go to the “Network Connections” tab (the name of some points may vary. it depends on the TV model);
  • in the section “Method of connection” select “Wireless Network”;
  • Next, the search for available Wi-Fi networks will start;
  • From the whole list, select the required;
  • Enter the password using the remote control;
  • If necessary, specify the IP address to connect to the Internet (otherwise DHCP is used, that is, the connection is configured automatically).

If for some reason the TV does not detect Wi-Fi or it does not manage to connect after entering the password, it is recommended to perform the following:

It is also necessary to pay attention to the fact that in modern Wi-Fi routers it can only work at a frequency of 5 GHz. But in TVs in 95% of cases, support for a wireless network was implemented only at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. In this case, in the settings of the router (in the web-intake), it is enough to activate the 2.4 GHZ module (for example, in ASUS routers, it is turned off if it is not used by any of the home network devices).

Setting up interactive television IPTV

Wi-Fi Router TP-Link Archer C20 knows how to work with VLAN virtual networks and allows you to connect interactive television from Beeline or House without any problems.RU. To do this, go to the menu section “Additional settings” → “Network” → “Internet”. So you will open a list of WAN-connection and there will already be one line of the previously created Internet connection. For IPTV, you need to create one more thing. click the “Add” button.

You need to create a “bridge” type connection. If your provider for the operation of a digital TV needs to indicate the number of the virtual network (which you must first find out in technical support), then you will need to put the “enable VLAN” box and indicate the network identifier in the “VLAN ID” field. Also, do not forget to put the number “4” in the “Priority” field. Click the “Save” button.

After that, go to the “Additional Settings” section → “Grouping of Inte Wees” and click the “Add” button.

The window of creating a group of ports will open. Here it will be necessary to indicate another name. for example, “IPTV”. Below, in the field on the left, put the box on the LAN port in which the TV prefix is included. If there are several consoles, then in the list we select all the ports to which the prefixes are connected. In the field on the right, you need to select the above.type connection type “bridge”.

Click on the “Save” button. The new group was created.

We go to the section “Additional settings” → “LAN”:

Here you need to turn off the DHCP server for the created group. Otherwise, the provider’s TV set will receive the IP address not from the provider server, but from the router and, accordingly, will not work.

Now you can connect the STB receivers and check the operation of the digital TV.

How to change the Wi-Fi password

Another typical situation that beginners often have to face is a password change on Wi-Fi. To do this, go to the Archer C20 router to go to the section of the web-intake “Basic Settings” → “Wireless Main”:

For each of the ranges in the Password field, you need to come up with and introduce a new Wi-Fi safety key. It is most optimal to make it mixed from letters and numbers, at least 8 characters long. After that, do not forget to press the “Save” button.

What are the ways out of the situation?

The task before us is interesting, but quite achievable. You just need to understand that without additional devices the ability to connect to Wi-Fi is missing. In each case, you will need to buy something, but these devices are not very expensive, at least at least many times cheaper than buying a new TV.

Installation of the TV set.top box

This is the best way that turns a regular TV into SMART, that is, adds to him all smart functions. A special prefix has its operating system, which processes any signal and converts it into content. The TV itself will not be connected to Wi-Fi, but only TV Box, but this does not change the fact that all modern possibilities will be available on it. At the same time, the prefix is relatively expensive, costs from 2000 to 10,000 depending on performance.

Connection via LAN through a router

As we found out, the LAN connection is provided on most TVs, including enough old. But to connect the Internet to a regular TV in this way is not always possible due to physical and obstacles. If they are not, it remains only to stick the cable and configure the DLNA (we already wrote about this earlier, of course, we attach the link a little lower). All those who cannot connect the cable directly can use the original method using Wi-Fi.

How to connect the Internet to a TV without Smart:

  • Purchase or take an old router that supports the receiver mode is usually called an adapter. Even the most budget apparatus is suitable.
  • We open the admin panel of the router (all data for entry is on the label on the router’s case) and select the type of robot to the “adapter” position, but we can still use the mode of the bridge.
  • We connect the TV with a router using a regular Ethernet cable.
  • Ready, the Internet works on Wi-Fi.

Using an external Wi-fi adapter

You can buy an external adapter to watch an Internet content on a TV with Smart TV, but without a Wi-Fi Module. There was a time when not all manufacturers set a wireless module on TV. Today it is found in almost all devices. In general, the method also works on many TVs without Smart, but the issue of using the Internet (there is no normal browser, applications, etc. P.). If you know how you will use the network and the external Wi-fi adapter supports your TV, you can safely use. A simple USB-Wi-Fi module can be bought for 250-300 and it will work. There will be no problems with the connection, but it may be that TV does not understand the type of device and its purpose. The firmware can help, but most likely the device is simply incompatible or the TV does not support such.

tp-link, connect, static

What to do in other cases?

It is worth watching the settings, perhaps they already have the ability to connect to Wi-Fi or LAN. This is not common, but it is still worth trying. If there is no access to the Internet, it remains only to put up or buy a suitable device. It is best to make a purchase of a TV console, here it comes to the rescue perfectly, because it has all the Smart TV functionality and is supported on all TVs, even “hunchbacked”. It can also be used fully.

The problem of connecting a regular TV to Wi-Fi and to the Internet as a whole is not always solved. Sometimes you have to compromise and additional costs. If you are satisfied with the quality of the picture on the current TV, where it will be more profitable to buy a prefix. When the TV is already too old, it works poorly or does not suit some parameters, it is better to purchase a new one and do without a prefix.

How IPTV works through a router?

To become more clear, we consider the principle of operation of the system:

  • The router uploads the information selected by the user and sends to the TV system.
  • Information flows take place and transformation into signals.
  • Data is transmitted to the TV where they are recognized.
  • TV displays a practically ready.made picture.

There is no much sense to go further into what IPTV is and how it works. The listed information is enough to form basic representations. It’s time to move to more practically sides of the issue.

Router setup for IPTV

Setting actions are very different depending on the manufacturer of the device. In order not to get confused in the panel, we offer to consider instructions for the most popular routers.

How to connect IPTV to TV via TP-Link router

  • In the router menu, we go to the “Network” section to the IPTV page.
  • Turn on the IGMP Proxy.
  • In the line “mode” we set the parameter to the “bridge” position.
  • We set the LAN port for communication with Smart TV (only 3 and 4 is suitable).
  • We save the settings.
  • We connect a TV with a port on a router.

If some parameters are absent, most likely the router does not support IPTV. This is a general instruction that is suitable for most providers, but not for everyone. In some cases, you need to seek help in the technical support of the provider.

Instructions for ASUS

  • Open the settings of the router.
  • We go to the “LVS” section in the column “Route” and include “Activation of multi.adhesive routing”.
  • We go to the division of WAN, to the “Internet connection” tab.
  • Install the selected port for IPTV.
  • We keep changes.

For Routers from ZYXEL

  • We open the official site. On the “Products and Service” tab, select the device model and download for its fresh firmware.
  • We update the router software.
  • We go to the admin panel and select “WAN”.
  • At the “Choose Bridge Port (S)” point, enter the port number for connecting to TV.

In zyxel devices, a lot depends on the model. For example, in the NBG-334-Wee and NBG-460-Nee, you need to additionally activate Enable IgMP Snooping Multicast, and Keenetic has a special IP-Television tab in the “Home Network” section.

This is a brief presentation of fundamental information about IPTV technology in routers, which is enough to form an idea of the system and its use. The function is really useful, convenient and can become a more functional replacement for ordinary television, so we recommend using it.
