As for the iPhone 14 Pro, there are four storage options, but they’re different than the company’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus variants. The iPhone 14 Pro starts at 128GB. From there, the iPhone 14 Pro’s storage capacity goes up to 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Why You Should Buy the 1TB iPhone 14 Pro
The expensive 1TB iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models are solid options for those that desire a ton of local storage.
It should provide enough space for photography buffs, avid gamers, and those who plan to tackle school or work projects while on-the-go.
Unless you’re already using well over 512GB or don’t use iCloud, you probably don’t need this much storage. Here’s who we think should buy one of these models:
- You’re an extreme power user.
- You’re planning to use the iPhone as a professional creative.
- You’re a photo buff who doesn’t want to use iCloud.
- You’re someone who travels often and wants everything store locally.
How to Check Your Current Storage
Before you pick one of these, you should check your current storage because you’ll be able to gather some great insight into your habits. Here’s how to do this:
This will show you how much free storage you currently have and how much you are using. It’ll also tell you exactly what’s taking up the most storage. For many of you, it’ll be photos and videos, apps, and messages.
If your current device is around a year old, you should still have around 50% of your storage left. If you are within 10-15% of its capacity, you probably need more storage.

Wait for Design Changes
Last year, Apple introduced a brand new pill-shaped notch the company calls Dynamic Island. Unfortunately, this change is only available on the company’s high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. That will likely change this year.
Analyst Ross Young believes Apple could bring Dynamic Island to the lower-end iPhone 15 models. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman does as well.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 15’s proximity sensor will be integrated into Dynamic Island. The proximity sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro models is under the display outside of Dynamic Island. This could lead to Face ID improvements.
This might give some of you considering Apple’s iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus a reason to hold out and wait for the new models.
On the flip side, Young doesn’t think the standard iPhone 15 models will get 120Hz/LTPO like the iPhone 15 Pro models. This haas been backed up by another source who says the iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Plus won’t get ProMotion and Always-On display capabilities.
We’ve heard the the iPhone 15 Max’s design will be made out of titanium as opposed to stainless steel.
Leaker ShrimpApplePro claims early information suggests Apple is indeed working on a titanium design. The leaker says the design may also incorporate curved rear edges and a glass back.
In a newer tweet, the leaker says the iPhone 15 Pro models will “have thinner bezels” with curved edges. The display is reportedly still flat, however.
ShrimpApplePro says additional sources now agree with the information and that the bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro models will indeed be thinner.
In a tweet, well-known leaker Ice Universe says the iPhone 15 Pro Max will break the record for thinnest bezels on a smartphone. The record is currently held by the Xiaomi 13.
Front glass panels for the iPhone 15 series have apparently leaked and they depict thinner bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities also believes the company is working to deliver a new titanium design. So does Gurman.
We’ve seen an iPhone 15 Pro dummy unit leak on the Chinese version of TikTok and it gives us a glimpse at what the device might look like. CAD images of the iPhone 15 Pro from 9to5Mac also show us what the final product could look like.
We’ve also heard the iPhone 15 Pro might have a multi-use action button instead of a mute button. This button would probably work like it does on the Apple Watch Ultra in that it will allow users to map it to different functions.

Apple announced its iPhone 14 series at an event in Cupertino at the beginning of September 2022, with four devices in the range, comprising the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Yes, that’s right, no iPhone 14 mini this time.
We’ve used each of the four iPhone 14 devices extensively over the last few months, and here we are comparing the four devices against each other based on their published specifications and our experience to help you figure out which might be the right one for you. We use the iPhone 14 Pro Max as our day-to-day device, but that’s not to say it’s the best for everyone. Here is how the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max compare. Apple iPhone 14 Pro
Apple’s latest premium phone gets everything right. From the luxurious and durable finish, to cameras and display, it is Apple’s best phone to date and our top choice to recommend. Though if you want big, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best.
Apple iPhone 14 Plus
The Apple iPhone 14 Plus has all the same hardware and features as the iPhone 14 but with a larger display and battery. the latter of which is excellent on this model. For a big display and battery at a good price, this is the one.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the same hardware and design as the iPhone 14 Pro, but in a larger package with a 6.7-inch OLED display and larger battery.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro price, availability and specs
Naturally, the price differs between the iPhone 14 models, you probably don’t need us to tell you that. If you’re in the US, thankfully there wasn’t been a price hike compared to 2021. Other territories may find it’s a different story though (in particular, we’ve been hit hard in the UK). This time around, the are as follows:
- iPhone 14: From 799 / £849 / €999
- iPhone 14 Plus: From 899 / £949 / €1,049
- iPhone 14 Pro: From 999 / £1099 / €1,299
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: From 1099 / £1199 / €1,449
All four models are available globally, though the colour options differ between the standard range and the Pro range. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come in six colours consisting of Blue, Yellow, Purple, Midnight, Starlight and Product(RED). The purple is our favourite, though the Midnight and Starlight are the most subtle. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max meanwhile, come in Space Black, Silver, Deep Purple and Gold. The Space Black has a lovely finish, though we are also very fond of the Deep Purple.
In terms of their specs, you can see a brief breakdown below (swipe across to see all models), though keep in mind that specs don’t tell the full story so if you want more detail on how the iPhone 14 models compare to each other, keep reading.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro design
The standard Apple iPhone 14 models follow an identical design to the iPhone 13 models, retaining the notch at the top of the display. The iPhone 14 Plus looks identical to the iPhone 14 but on a larger scale, as you’d expect.
Like in previous years, that means for both sizes you get dual lenses again, flat edges and an aluminium frame. They also offer IP68 water and dust resistance.
The iPhone 14 Pro models, though, look different to the standard iPhone 14 models, and indeed different to any iPhone that’s come before them.
The notch has been replaced by what Apple calls the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped cutout that houses the front camera and sensors, and plays host to animations and widget-like information. Various alerts will appear in the Dynamic Island and it adapts depending on what you’re doing.
For example, if you use Apple Pay, the Dynamic Island will turn into a square, while when you are on a phone call, it will widen and show the call duration and sound waves if you open another app whilst on the call. Overall, it’s a major change to the design language that Apple’s been using for years now, and it feels quite different using the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max compared to their regular counterparts. in a good way.
The iPhone 14 Pro models also feature a triple rear camera on the back and they are heavier than the standard models, offering a shiny stainless steel frame over aluminium.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro display
The Apple iPhone 14 sticks with the same display size as the iPhone 13, which means a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 14 Plus meanwhile, features a 6.7-inch display.
The iPhone 14 Pro also offers a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen. All four offer an OLED panel, along with True Tone, Haptic Touch and HDR support, though the Pro models do offer a bunch of extra features including power-efficiency modes that can dim the display more smartly.
The iPhone 14 Pro models again offer the ProMotion adaptive refresh rate, though this time they have a lower minimum refresh rate than the iPhone 13 Pro models, clocking in at a tiny 1Hz. This is great for battery-saving.
Another big boost for the Pro models comes in the brightness department, where they get a huge jump up to 2000nits of peak brightness, which makes a difference when you’re using your phone in bright light or sunshine.
The iPhone 14 Pro models also feature an Always On Display. something most Android phones offer, allowing you to see information without your screen being on and unlocked. This cleverly reflects what you have on your Lock Screen under iOS 16 and it marks quite a big difference in use between the Pro models and the standard models, though if you won’t know what you’re missing unless you go from using a Pro model to a standard model.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro specs
The Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus run on the same chipset as the iPhone 13 Pro, which is the A15 with five-core GPU. For reference, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini also ran on the A15, but they have a four-core GPU.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, though, run on the A16 chip, which offers a performance boost on the A15 and therefore the standard iPhone 14 models. This is actually the first time Apple has used different chips in its iPhone models of the same series.
Storage options for the standard models are the same as the iPhone 13 models. That means you can choose from 128GB, 256GB and 512GB options. The iPhone 14 Pro models start at 128GB and there are also 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models.
Battery capacity is different between the standard iPhone 14 models and the iPhone 14 Pro models, as well as between the standard and Pro models themselves, with the Plus and Max variants offering larger batteries.
Apple typically measures this in hours rather than mAh, and from its comparison pages, if you take video playback as your chosen comparison you can expect 20 hours for the standard iPhone 14 and 26 hours for the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 Pro will offer at least 23 hours, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max sits at around 29 hours.
We’ve tested the battery performance of all the iPhone 14 models and the iPhone 14 Plus comes out on top, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max following behind. The iPhone 14 Plus is excellent in this department so if you’re after big screen and big battery, it’s a great option.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro cameras
The Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus each come with a dual camera on the rear. You get a 12MP main wide camera and a secondary ultra-wide camera. These are the same resolutions as the iPhone 13, though the main camera has been upgraded to the same as the iPhone 13 Pro, meaning a slightly wider aperture of f/1.5 instead of f/1.6.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max meanwhile, got a big upgrade. There’s a 48MP main sensor, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with a wider aperture and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor.
The iPhone 14 Pro models are able to offer 3x optical zoom thanks to the telephoto lens and 15x digital zoom. The standard iPhone 14 models have 5x digital zoom but no optical zoom. The Pro models also offer ProRES, allowing you to shoot 48-megapixel raw shots.
There are similar features across all four models, with features like Portrait Mode with Depth Control, Night Mode, Photographic Styles and Cinematic Mode. You’ll also find Action Mode on all four iPhone 14 models, as well as a Photonic Engine, said to improve low light images. All four models offer great results and while the Pro models are superior, the standard models still deliver great point-and-shoot images.
In terms of the front camera, all four models see an upgraded 12-megapixel front camera to include a wider aperture of f/1.9 and autofocus for the first time, which is hugely helpful for selfies and video calls.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro software
All four of the Apple iPhone 14 models run on iOS 16. The user experience is therefore be pretty much identical across the four models, though as we mentioned, the iPhone 14 Pro models do get some extra features in the camera department, as well as Always On Display and Dynamic Island.

Conclusion: Which iPhone 14 model should you buy?
There are a few differences between the standard iPhone 14 models and the iPhone 14 Pro models, including design, materials, chipset, storage options, battery capacities, display features and camera offerings.
There are also some noteworthy similarities too, like the flat edges, Face ID, iOS 16 software experience, front camera upgrades, and display sizes. On the whole, the iPhone 14 Pro models are more distinct than in previous years thanks to that Dynamic Island more than anything else.

For anyone looking for a great phone that costs less, the standard iPhone 14 options are still impressive. especially in the case of the iPhone 14 Plus. but with minimal differences compared to the iPhone 13 models, you could consider an iPhone 13 Pro to gain a few more features for a similar price.

The Apple iPhone 14 Plus has all the same hardware and features as the iPhone 14 but with a larger display and battery. the latter of which is excellent on this model. It comes in the same five colour options as the iPhone 14 and retains the notch, setting it apart from the Pro models.
iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: main differences
What does the iPhone 14 Pro Max bring to the table and how is it different from the already excellent iPhone 13 Pro Max?
There are two big new features worth considering: a higher resolution main camera and the new Dynamic Island feature that replaces the notch.
These really stand out, but as always, Apple is bringing the usual upgrades to the newer model with a more powerful A16 Bionic chip inside it, a bunch of new camera features, completely new satellite connectivity and more.
But while we have those things going on, battery life and charging speeds have not changed much in this new model, so if that’s what you were hoping for, you may be disappointed.

Design and Display Quality
Design is mostly unchanged
The iPhone 14 Pro Max largely keeps the looks of its predecessor with the same screen size, and roughly the same design with flat sides and a glass and stainless steel construction.
There is a tiny change in the dimensions of the new 14 Pro Max, but it’s so minuscule you probably won’t even notice.

What you will notice, though, is the new Dynamic Island pill-shaped system on the front, which replaces the notch. It eats up less space, and gives the new iPhone 14 Pro series a look unlike any other phone. However, most impressively, it acts as a sort of a status bar for your current iPhone doings: playing back music. you get a tiny waveform and album art; using the maps. you get a little icon; phone running low on battery. the warning pops up there. Cool! But is that a profound change that would warrant an upgrade? Not really.
Another notable feature that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has over its predecessor is an Always-On display. Android has had this for years, and now it’s finally on the iPhone. Apple has waited until it has support for 1Hz refresh rate (new on the 14 Pro Max), so it can dim the wallpaper with minimal battery drain.
Do keep in mind that the Always-on Display function drains an average of about 5% every day, so if you use it, you might be getting worse battery life than with the 13 Pro Max.
Display Measurements:
The CIE 1931 xy color gamut chart represents the set (area) of colors that a display can reproduce, with the sRGB colorspace (the highlighted triangle) serving as reference. The chart also provides a visual representation of a display’s color accuracy. The small squares across the boundaries of the triangle are the reference points for the various colors, while the small dots are the actual measurements. Ideally, each dot should be positioned on top of its respective square. The ‘x: CIE31’ and ‘y: CIE31’ values in the table below the chart indicate the position of each measurement on the chart. ‘Y’ shows the luminance (in nits) of each measured color, while ‘Target Y’ is the desired luminance level for that color. Finally, ‘ΔE 2000’ is the Delta E value of the measured color. Delta E values of below 2 are ideal.
The Color accuracy chart gives an idea of how close a display’s measured colors are to their referential values. The first line holds the measured (actual) colors, while the second line holds the reference (target) colors. The closer the actual colors are to the target ones, the better.
The Grayscale accuracy chart shows whether a display has a correct white balance (balance between red, green and blue) across different levels of grey (from dark to bright). The closer the Actual colors are to the Target ones, the better.
In terms of color options, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has four: deep purple, gold, silver, and space black. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has five color variants: alpine green, silver, gold, graphite, and sierra blue.
What is not changing are the contents of the box: you only get a Lightning cable and no charger inside.
But what about the display? Both phones come with a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a nearly identical resolution.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max, however, has thinner borders so it looks a bit more elegant. Apple has also bumped the max brightness even further on the 14 Pro Max, for a more comfortable outdoor viewing experience, reaching up to an incredible 2000 nits. We found this to be a bigger deal than it sounds, it makes viewing the new iPhone outdoors so much easier and is hugely appreciated.
Both being Pro models, they have 120Hz ProMotion for buttery smooth scrolling, but again the iPhone 14 Pro Max can drop to just 1Hz, while the 13 Pro Max stops at 10Hz.
When it comes to biometrics, the two use Face ID. Despite that new pill shape on the 14 Pro Max, it uses the same sensors and technology for face recognition as the 13 Pro Max, so the experience of using Face ID remains the same.
Performance and Software
What does the new Apple A16 chip bring?
Apple uses the new Apple A16 Bionic chip in the iPhone 14 Pro Max, an upgrade over the A15 in the 13 Pro Max.
The A16 Bionic makes the jump to 4nm technology, a generational change from the 5nm tech used in previous iPhones. This allows the A16 to pack nearly 16 billion transistors, and it now comes with even more efficient CPU cores. Apple is also sticking with 6GB of RAM on the 14 Pro Max, just as it did on its predecessor.
Benchmark Results:
In the GeekBench test which measures CPU performance, the new iPhone got nearly 9% better single-core results and nearly 14% faster multi-core performance.
In the 3D Wild Mark graphics test, the initial burst of performance was improved, but then the 14 Pro Max throttles similarly to the 13 Pro Max, and performance between the two was basically identical.
In terms of software, the iPhone 14 Pro Max runs the latest iOS 16 software. The 13 Pro Max has also been updated to iOS 16, so you have absolute parity in terms of software. Apple traditionally keeps its phones up to date for 5 or even 6 years, so both of these devices are perfectly future-proof.
First is satellite connectivity with Emergency SOS. This allows you to connect the new iPhone to a satellite when you are in a remote location with no cellular signal. This can be used in case of an emergency and could be a life-saving feature. Keep in mind that you need to have a clean view of the sky for this to work and you need to hold up your iPhone towards a satellite (an app tells you the direction) to lock signal.
Thanks to upgraded sensors, the new model also gets Crash Detection. another emergency feature that can detect a serious car crash and in that case it would dial emergency services, as well as send a message to share your location and let your emergency contacts know that you’ve been in a severe car crash.
Camera
A new 48MP main camera
Apple has been a leader in camera quality, especially for video recording, but what new does it bring to the table this year?
First, we see a larger, 48-megapixel sensor in the main camera, a welcome change from last generation’s 12MP one.
However, keep in mind that the default option still captures 12MP photos. Apple is using a technique called pixel binning where combining four pixels into one, so images have less noise and look better in low light. However, we find you will really notice the difference in quality when you shoot ProRAW photos at the full 48-megapixel resolution where you get a lot more detail and a less “phone-like” look. Just be warned that those take up a lot more space.
Apple is also using this large sensor in one more clever way: it crops out the center of the sensor to give you optical quality 2X zoom without a 2X lens. 2X zoom is one of our all-time favorite focal lengths for portrait shots and we are incredibly happy to see it back on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
One thing the iPhone 14 Pro Max still does NOT have is a long-range zoom lens. Android rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra have had a native long-range zoom lens for several years now, but not iPhones.

Performance
For the first year ever, Apple has split the performance between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 models are powered by an upgraded version of the A15 chip used last year (just with an added GPU core). The iPhone 14 Pro models use Apple’s newest A16 Bionic chip, which is Apple’s first 4nm processor.

Camera
One of the biggest ways the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro differ is in terms of camera technology. The gap between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is even bigger this year than before. Because of the new 48MP camera on the iPhone 14 Pro, the main camera uses quad-pixel technology to adapt to the photo being captured.

Coming from someone with a iPhone X, if this is your year to upgrade and don’t want the Pro, just buy an iPhone 13 Pro. You can still find them online for around £100 more than the 14, but you get way better cameras, 120 refresh rate and better battery life. Literally beats it hands down. If you have an iPhone 12/13, you don’t need this new phone at all.
My personal suggestion is to look at how you use your iPhone and look at the price differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Do you take enough pictures and videos to really benefit from the new camera features? Are you consistently taking pictures and videos of something in your life that’s really important? If so, the iPhone 14 Pro is the way to go.
But if not, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are still incredible phones. The camera hardware is as impressive as in years past, and you benefit from some of the additional computational photography technology. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are also notably cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro models.
