If the touch screen does not work

Now let’s talk about the case if the sensor does not work. This is most often due to a hardware or software failure. You need to clarify the nature of this problem in order to correct it. After describing the method, we will tell you why. So, how to turn off your iPhone if the sensor is not working?

You just need to wait for your apple device to run out of charge and it turns off on its own. Then you don’t have to hard reset your smartphone, as described above.

The first way to turn off and restart the phone if the sensor does not work is to remove the battery

This is a simple option, only if the built-in battery does not work. You will not disassemble it, where everything is glued and soldered.

If it’s removable, then go ahead, though you won’t be able to reboot in this way, or rather it will be a reboot without saving open data, which, however, is also not bad.

Even on a slightly outdated iPhone 5, this will not work, not to mention the latest flagships.

Of course, as a last resort, you can wait until the battery is discharged, but we live in an age of speed and no one wants to do this, so we move on.

The second way to turn off and restart the phone if the sensor does not work is to use a computer mouse

If you have a computer mouse or keyboard near you (maybe on Bluetooth), you need to purchase an OTG cable for a penny.

Further, if, for example, connect a mouse, then a pointer will appear on the screen, like in a computer and it will completely replace your finger.

Conveniently. Yes, it is convenient, here are only the cheapest phones, this function is not supported, but everyone works on tablets.

As you can see, not everything is simple here. In addition to the fact that the Android phone or iPhone must have support, you also need to purchase a cable.

There is an exit. Here I will touch upon only the questions of how to turn off or restart Android, or iPhone, and who wants to use it. here are the instructions.

The third way to restart the phone if the sensor does not work is to use the buttons

To restart the iPhone with a non-working sensor for 3. 6 seconds, hold down the power and home buttons. It’s all. iPhone will restart.

If you are an Android phone, a lot depends on the manufacturer. So on Sony you need to hold down the volume and turn it on.

On HTC, press and hold the shutdown button for about 10. 20 seconds, in a word, until it reboots.

On Samsung, you need to hold down the sound and the enable button. How much to keep? Hold until reboot starts.

In the same way, you can reboot any other phone, only on some you need, in addition to the button to turn on, hold down or decrease the sound or increase.

As you can see, if the sensor does not work, then not all is lost. You can turn off, restart and even use. Success.

Apple phones are one of the highest quality communication devices in terms of software and hardware optimization. But they are also prone to malfunctions and breakdowns. They also experience software glitches. The most unpleasant incident is often the inoperability of one or both buttons “Home” and “Power”.

Phones often stop working when they freeze. Buttons also fail. And turning the iPhone on or off becomes impossible. And then you have to figure out how to turn off the iPhone 5 (applicable to other iPhone models).

There are several popular ways to turn off iPhone 4 (applies to other iPhone models as well).

Why iPhoneX screen stops responding?

To force restart iPhone X, follow the steps below:

  • Press and release the volume up button.
  • Press and release the volume down button.
  • Hold the side button until you see the Apple logo on the screen, this will happen in about 10 seconds.
  • When the logo appears, release the side button and the device will boot as usual.

When the iPhone X turns on, the screen should work as expected. All touches should be instantly readable.

A forced reboot is not the most advanced solution, but it works and is very fast. Perhaps this is even the best way.

It is impossible to say for sure why this happens for no apparent reason. However, this is most likely a systemic issue.

Some time ago, Apple released iOS 11.1.2 update, in a postscript to which the following was said: “Fixed a bug due to which the screen of the iPhone X is temporarily unresponsive to touch at low temperatures.”.

Users also often write that the iPhone X screen freezes in the cold. In such cases, installing an iOS update can solve the problem.

Cold temperatures aren’t the only reason, however, and sometimes the iPhone X screen becomes unresponsive in warm rooms. There have been cases when this happened even on devices with iOS 11.2.6.

Most likely, this is another iOS system problem or a bug of some application. The device may stop working properly if the load is too high. That is why everything is working out after a forced reboot.

It’s also worth noting that the iPhone X is still a new model, so if the solutions above don’t help you fix the problem, you should contact Apple support. The problem with the screen occurred with both the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7. Most often, the usual forced reboot, system update, or even restore helps.

Common causes of breakage

Most often, the iPhone screen does not respond to the touch of a finger after a fall, liquid penetration through cracks or due to other mechanical damage. The following defects are quite rare causes of problems:

  • touchscreen wear
  • high load of RAM (iPhone screen stopped responding, and buttons do not respond because the phone is frozen)
  • iPhone system malfunction (smartphone does not respond to button presses)
  • overheating of iPhones (in such cases, part of the screen does not respond to touch)

It is easy to determine the presence of problems in the operation of the sensor, the following failures are observed:

  • partly or completely unresponsive to iPhone touch
  • in certain parts of the display, the iPhone screen freezes when you touch your finger
  • the screen responds with a delay to touch
  • pages are flipped incorrectly
  • the sensor stopped responding to touches and spontaneously types text

To avoid problems with iPhone displays due to mechanical damage, the manufacturer recommends gluing glass or film to the surface of the screen.

Unstable operation or complete failure of the touch screen is often associated with the following reasons:

  • Mechanical impact (due to impact or falling of the phone).
  • Ingress of moisture into the case (moisture protection for Apple smartphones does not guarantee complete impermeability).
  • Overheating of the smartphone.
  • IOS software crash or freeze.
  • Poor quality protective glass or bumper.

And if it is better to contact the service center with mechanical problems, then in other cases it is worth trying to restart the iPhone. In the overwhelming majority of cases, this will be enough to restore performance. How to turn off the iPhone if the screen does not work, we will tell you in the following sections.

How to restart a frozen iPhone?

Combinations have been developed for models of different series:

  • IPhone 6, 5 and earlier series models will be helped by long and simultaneous holding (10-15 seconds) of the Power and Home buttons.
  • IPhone 7 and 7 Plus series will have to fix “Power on” and “Volume Down” for ten to fifteen seconds.
  • IPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

There is another way to resuscitate Apple phones. iTunes. This method can be considered the most radical, since it resets all device settings to factory settings and installs a backup.

This helps to activate the iPhone, despite the appearance of its complete death.

  • Computer or laptop with the latest version of iTunes;
  • The “non-working” iPhone itself;
  • Cable for connecting one device to another.
  • Connect iPhone to MacBook and open iTunes;
  • We put the iPhone into recovery mode, for which we press the buttons responsible for the forced reboot (see the instructions above);
  • We are waiting for the Apple logo to appear on the display, and then a special recovery mode screen with a colored iTunes note;
  • Further in the menu when the dialog box appears. click “Update”. If the “update” fails, you can also try to restore the data from the backup.

So, in case of difficulties with buttons and a black, red or blue screen, the equipment needs to be charged, rebooted or updated.

But what if the iPhone’s problems are not related to the buttons, but to the sensor? There are hints here.

When the sensor on the iPhone is buggy, it’s even more “interesting” than the problems with the buttons.

Depending on the severity of the situation, the touchscreen can:

  • Do not respond to touch;
  • Hang on screen with finger.

And here again we need to figure out what became the primary source of the problem, since usually the iPhone sensor is infinitely resistant and very rarely breaks.

  • Software crashes. The reasons for their appearance can be excessive loading of the device’s RAM, as well as banal overheating. Such a breakdown is expressed through the freezing of the equipment. the incorrect behavior of the sensor and the lack of response to pressing buttons. Eliminated by forced reboot.
  • The display module is worn out. The iPhone sensor is an element of the display module, and in case of any breakdown of the sensor, protective glass or the display itself, you have to change the entire complex element. Repairs should only be carried out by professionals, since otherwise it is impossible to guarantee neither the quality nor the durability of the replaced part. The last problem is fixed only in the service, but as for the first block of software failures, then you can reanimate the iPhone yourself.

To combat freezing, the following methods are suitable:

  • Forced reboot;
  • Removing unlicensed software and cleaning the device memory from “garbage”;
  • Flashing iPhone.

For rebooting and flashing, you can use the same methods as for resuscitating the device in case of problems with the buttons. a combination of restart keys “from the manufacturer” and iTunes to restore a backup copy of data.

Any iPhone button or sensor malfunction should be resolved in two steps.

  • The first is an independent attempt, which in half the cases leads to success. If the experiment with restoring functionality is unsuccessful, there is no need to open the case and try to diagnose and repair the device.
  • A more correct way is to contact specialists who will accurately deal with the malfunction and eliminate it. Most often quickly and not very expensive.

In a standard situation, to reboot after pressing the lock button, you need to confirm the action by swiping your finger across the screen. But you can restart your smartphone even if the sensor does not respond. This procedure is called “Hard Reset” or “Hard Reset”. To do this, you must simultaneously press the lock and “Home” buttons on the phone.

How to turn off iPhone if sensor is not working

When a reboot is not needed and you only need to turn off the smartphone, the algorithm of actions changes somewhat. The shutdown procedure is similar to the one discussed, only you need to hold the lock and “Home” buttons for 4-5 seconds until the screen turns off and then immediately release it, without waiting for the logo to appear.

If your iPhone screen stops responding, you don’t always need to replace the display. In some cases, you can independently determine the cause of the problem and fix it. First, eliminate the possibility of damage to the case or screen surface.

If the internal components break, only a qualified technician can repair the iPhone.

If iPhone screen freezes, follow these steps:

  • use the power button to reboot the device (hold the button for a few seconds)
  • remove unlicensed software from iPhone
  • reflash the device

If, after performing such actions, the iPhone screen freezes, and there is no reaction to pressing the buttons, you must perform a complete restart of the device. To do this, you need to simultaneously hold the “Home” and “Power” buttons for 20 seconds. Then the smartphone will erase the RAM and restart the phone.

If after that part of the screen or the entire display still does not respond well to finger presses, the sensor needs to be replaced.

Potential consequences of rebooting without using a sensor

The “hard reboot” procedure is marked in the instructions as a last resort for cases when other, more secure, ways to turn off or restore the smartphone to work do not help. In fact, if you do not abuse “Hard Reset” and do not use this method constantly, then there will be no negative consequences for the smartphone.

However, with frequent use, there is a possibility of losing information that is stored in the smartphone’s memory. Hard reboots can crash or completely damage the iPhone memory module. The number of hard reboots and module failure are not directly related, but the probability increases over time. Thus, do not neglect regular data backups to iCloud and try to use “Hard Reset” as little as possible.
