How to clear memory on the Samsung Galaxy

How to clear the system memory on a Samsung

Samsung smartphones have powerful functionality and large system memory. But as you use the device, many owners encounter the problem of slow performance of many functions, with long loading times for the phone itself and the Internet. As a rule, every user installs various applications and programs on his smartphone, from time to time the system performs an update, and at one point the user is faced with the message “Not enough memory“. It is good if your model can increase the system memory, because you can get a lot more free space and delay the moment of “cleaning”. But that’s only for a short period of time.

It is important to remember that self-interference in the system of your smartphone without certain skills, can lead to malfunctioning of the device. If you need expert help, please contact a specialized repair center for Samsung smartphones.

Why do you need to free the memory

The memory of the internal drive is designed to solve a wide range of tasks, among which the main ones are:

  • Phone calls and sending SMS;
  • installing applications, as well as updating them;
  • downloading programs from the Internet;
  • Receiving data via Bluetooth or NFC;
  • Updating the operating system.

Worked in the mobile phone shops of two major carriers for several years. I am well versed in tariffs and see all the pitfalls. I love gadgets, especially Android.

What will happen to your smartphone if the memory overflow. How it affects operation?

An overabundance of information leads to the fact that the device ceases to function properly. In addition to slowing down, freezing, other serious problems may occur. The smartphone will stop sending and receiving messages and media files. It will not be possible to take photos and shoot videos, download updates.

The user loses access to certain functions, cannot use some programs. Obviously, overloading the gadget causes it to malfunction. Therefore, freeing the memory is a necessary procedure that should be performed regularly.

Delete photos, music, videos and other files or transfer them to the memory card

The “My Files” application is used to browse files on your device. This is the equivalent of “Explorer” on a Windows computer.

Find the “My files” application in the device menu and open it. It is often located in the “Samsung” folder.

On the start screen, select “Device Memory”.

Press “Options” in the upper right corner (may look like three dots) and select “Properties” or “Details.

This item can also be at the bottom of the screen (you don’t need to press Options).

Size” will show the size of the folder. If a folder is large (more than 300 MB), it is better to move it to the memory card.

Usually the largest folders are: DCIM. photos and videos from the camera, Download. downloaded files from the Internet, WhatsApp or other messengers name. files from chats in messengers, Music. music.

To move, select the folder again, press Options and choose “Move. To delete, select “Delete”. You may move not only folders, but also individual files stored in these folders.

You may also have these items at the bottom of the screen (you do not need to press Options).

Select “Storage Card” and then select “Done” or “Move Here. Folder moved.

The third way to free up internal memory on the Samsung Galaxy is to synchronize photos in the cloud

If cleaning up unnecessary files doesn’t yield a satisfactory result, it’s worth considering what other data takes up as much space on your smartphone.

Very often these are photos taken. To free up space (and, by the way, gain better access and independence from any phone malfunctions), many popular Internet drive apps can use automatic cloud-based photo backups.

Using Google Drive can even count on unlimited space for this type of backup, if you forgo the original image quality and settle for good.

Competitive OneDrive doesn’t offer this option. Regardless of the tool you choose, after such a copy of the photos you can delete them from the device, gaining additional memory.

In any case you can get used to previous photos, often also directly from the phone gallery, if you synchronize them with the network drives in the settings.

If you don’t have enough memory

The previously discussed ways can fully free up space on the internal storage of the Samsung Galaxy A30. However, even removing a large number of files does not lead to optimal results if the owner purchased a version with minimal storage space.

There are a couple of ways out. First, you can install a MicroSD card. It expands the internal storage by 32-256 gigabytes, depending on the chosen configuration. Secondly, there is the option of uploading personal data to the “cloud” like Google Drive or Yandex Disk. But here it is important to pay attention to the fact that only a limited amount of space is available for free. You’ll have to sign up for a subscription to expand your virtual storage.

By choosing the right option, the owner can transfer most files to a MicroSD card or upload data to the cloud. Unfortunately, the applications can not be moved. But you can get rid of photos, videos and music without much trouble.

Deleting files from messengers

When using WhatsApp and other similar messengers, owners of the Samsung Galaxy M10 often send each other photos. After browsing, they are not deleted, but remain in the memory of the device. Therefore, you have to delete them manually.

All multimedia received via WhatsApp is stored in the folder with the same name, which has directories named “Images” and “Video”. These directories need to be cleared either through the file manager on the smartphone, or through the “Explorer” of the computer.

How to clear smartphone memory

Your mobile device quickly fills up its internal memory when you use it actively. Social networks and other network services “cache” information, saving in the phone memory the data that the user accesses most often. By clearing this data, it is possible to free up tens and hundreds of megabytes of space. Find the button in the settings of your cell phone or app to clear the cache.

For iOS devices cache clearing is also no problem. The method is somewhat “barbaric”, but effective. the application is simply deleted and then reinstalled from the App Store. If you use the mobile browser Safari, there is a button “clear history and data sites” in his settings.

Unnoticeable for the user absorb memory space streaming music services and geographic maps. You can remove songs you don’t listen to anymore, and delete maps of places you’ve been to. A small amount of space will be freed up by deleting irrelevant emails, obsolete threads of conversations in messengers. It is quite possible that you do not use some of the applications installed on your phone. If you don’t need them, delete them. And look in your Favorites folder. Most likely, there will be a lot of previously downloaded and no longer relevant files. There is a temptation to install an application that, in one fell swoop, clears the memory of your smartphone. However, you should not install extraneous programs to clean the memory. All of them are overloaded with ads, not safe and intrusive.

Cleaning via computer

The last way to clean your Samsung smartphone from unnecessary files is to connect it to your PC via USB cable. Next, you can use any file manager to check all the folders in the device memory and delete or copy the desired content to your PC. You don’t need to worry that you will delete some important files. The Android system is arranged in such a way that even after connecting the gadget to your computer, the system folders are hidden from the user.

For a more fine-grained cleaning, you can use CCleaner. This is a counterpart of Clean Master developed for PC, but it can also work with external media, and the Android device for the computer is displayed in this way.
