How to adjust the analog channels on a Samsung TV

What to do if the TV does not catch digital TV channels: step by step guide

It’s quite a common problem when tuning TV. The TV set can’t find digital channels. There can be many reasons, so it is important to check and eliminate possible causes step by step until you get to the point. Cases when a seemingly serviceable TV receiver has stopped catching channels can be disassembled according to the same scheme. Here’s how to proceed, from the simple to the complex.

One of the easiest reasons why the autodetect does not find channels can be a mismatch of standards.

First of all, check what format the equipment is capable of receiving. An owner of the TV set, receiving digital TV through a usual antenna, should remember the abbreviation DVB-T2. This is a European broadcasting standard that’s also been adopted in Russia. The acronym is derived from an English phrase meaning “digital video transmission, a second-generation television format”. It’s the “T2” on the end that needs attention.

Before the decision was made at the federal level to switch Russian television to digital, experimental over-the-air broadcasting was already underway, and it was often in the old European DVB-T format. So if the equipment does not support DVB-T2 it simply means it is outdated.

A similar situation can be with cable and satellite broadcasting. They also use the standards of DVB group, but with additional letters C (from the word “cable”) or S (from “satellite”). There, too, there could be additional digits 2: second-generation standards have already been developed and are actively used.

So make sure that your equipment corresponds to the TV you want to catch. If you have difficulty you can read more about digital TV standards.

How to know the model and year of TV Samsung for tuning channels

Every digital channel tuning on a Samsung TV begins with determining its modification and when it became available. The following options are available for this task:

  • Using the menu. Arrive sequentially in the sections: “Menu”. “Support”. “Contact Samsung“. On the screen that opens, you can see the line “Model Code”.
  • Nameplate is attached to the back of the unit. Specifies the model and its code, as well as the series and manufacturer number. Alphabetic characters indicate type of instrument: EU/LE for LCD models, PS/PE for plasma models. The digits, for example 32, indicate the diagonal size (in inches) from 19 to 105. The following letters indicate the model year: A. 2008, B. 2009, C. 2010, D. 2011, ES/EH. 12, F/FH. 2013, H/HU. 2014, J/JU/JS. 2015, K/KU/KS. 2016, M/MU/Q/LS. 2017, N/NU. 2018, S. Various vintage premium models.

Once you have identified the model, you must carefully determine the technical capabilities of digital signal reception.

Auto Adjustment

The easiest way to let the TV catch the right frequency with the antenna and add TV channels. Automatic search means that it is not necessary to add channels to the list by hand. No need to set frequencies in the settings, give names to TV channels, etc.

Regardless of the series, the automatic search is done in much the same way. The difference between the series is only in the menu design and additional features. Latest TV series are determined by TV innovations. For example, some provider has become very popular. Then TV manufacturers can add it to the default settings. New features and functions with the release of regular updates and versions, are implemented in TVs.

It is necessary to insert the plug of the antenna cable into the TV socket before all tuning operations.

TV setup for most series

The instruction is valid for all series since 2013. F, H, J, K, N, M, Q, LS, R, T series are suitable for the algorithm given below.

The only difference in the tuning process can be the color of the interface. Somewhere the design is blue and somewhere it is gray or black. This does not affect the setting itself, all items are the same and located in the same sections.

The TV remote control also partially affects the setup. It is the remote control which determines how the user gets to “Settings”. If you are sure you can open “Settings” on your TV receiver, then proceed to the instructions below. In a different situation with the information about remotes under the spoiler. Maybe the description of remotes will help you to find the right buttons.

Newer series are equipped with two remote control options:

With the first remote, you can go straight to the “Settings” button or select the “Settings” menu after pressing “Home” or “MENU” (depends on the remote). The article describes how to start the setup for this exact model of remote control.

With the second remote control it is possible to do it only with “Home” button.

Older TV series have more remote control options. From the possible buttons that give access to the menu distinguish. KEYPAD, MENU/123, MORE. After pressing them on the screen you need to call “Settings” by additionally pressing “Menu”.

If there is a gear icon on the screen, you can click on it at once.

If you selected the source “Cable”, then in the item “Operator” select from the list yours, if it is present. Otherwise, select “Others”, and in the “Search Mode” select “Full” to scan all frequencies and find the maximum number of channels. In “Quick” mode you can set the specific frequencies (to be found out from the operator). This will let you scan only the desired band and finish the process much faster.

Automatic tuning is done in the same way, only with a few differences.

Tuning older models

Modern televisions are equipped with an internal decoder in DVB-T2 format. Models produced before 2012 have in their construction a decoder format DVB-T, this is the same type of decoder, but does not allow them to receive modern digital broadcasting signals. For such devices you need to buy a special decoder with a set of basic functions. Among decoders are more expensive, with extensive functionality and Internet access, which makes a decoder a smart device.

You need a DMV antenna to tune in and continue watching digital TV. If you don’t have one, you’ll have to buy one. It can be placed indoors or installed on a balcony or roof.

If you have a powerful TV tower near your home, a room antenna will suffice. However, if you are at a greater distance from the signal source, you should buy an antenna with an amplifier and place it as high as possible. Thus, you will improve the quality of the signal on your TV, and the reception of digital channels will be more reliable, without interference.

If you have an old TV, the connection is made with a so-called “tulip”, which is a set of 3 wires of corresponding colors: yellow, white and red. These usually come with a decoder. Yellow is for picture quality and white and red are for sound quality. But there are older models of TVs where you need an RCA-Scart adapter for this tunnel. LCD TVs usually use a standard HDMI cable. Make sure your TV and set top box have an HDMI cable input.

Once you connect the decoder to your TV, you need to set it up. Activate the button on your TV that activates the custom decoder menu, such as AV, HDMI, VIDEO.

Under the menu, find “Channel Search” and run this program. A few minutes of searching and you have a package of twenty digital channels. Basically, you’ll be using the remote from your set-top box, and you’ll only need the remote from your TV to turn it on and off to watch, turn the sound up or down.

Adding local TV channels

Analog programs may still be available for viewing in the region. If you do not want to give up your local TV, then you can additionally search for.

It is important for the TV to receive a signal on the meter and decimeter range. This is provided in two ways:

HOW TO CHANGE SAMSUNG TV CHANNEL LIST IF ‘EDIT CHANNEL’ OR ‘RENAME CHANNEL’ OPTION IS DISABLED

  • By installing an omni-wave antenna that catches both MV and DMV at the same time;
  • Using two antennas and connecting to the TV receiver through the combiner.

Then do a search for analog channels. All of the above instructions will work. The only difference is that instead of “digital” you must select the item responsible for “analog. Many modern TVs do not allow you to set to scan both bands simultaneously. For example, on Samsung TVs you must select “Digital” and “Analog“. And analogue.”. And for LG models you do not have to tick the “Only digital” box. Then the whole range will be scanned. It will take more time, but the maximum number of channels will be found.

To tune channels

You can tune TV channels in automatic mode and in manual mode, as well as without the help of the remote control.

Automatic mode

To perform auto-tuning of TV channels, you need:

  • Set the signal source: antenna, cable or satellite;
  • Select channel type: digital or analog;
  • Select full search mode;

The search for TV channels will continue for a few minutes, after which they will be automatically saved.

Manual mode

The procedure for tuning TV channels through the antenna in manual mode is as follows.

  • Turn on the TV panel, run “Menu” and open the “Broadcast” tab.
  • Select “Manual adjustment” and then “Digital channels adjustment”.
  • Click “Create” to choose the frequency, modulation and baud rate. The required values for each region are different and can be found on the web.
  • Click “Search” button.
  • It will take a few minutes to scan and then the image will appear. Press “Save” button.
  • The window with frequency, speed and modulation appears again. You need to add 8000 to the frequency, the last two parameters should not be changed. Restart channel search.
  • The action can be continued until all TV channels are found.

Without Remote Control

In case of no remote control, to search for channels, the user can use the buttons on the TV screen, all operations will be performed in the same way as with the remote control. If it is not possible to perform the setting in this way, you will need to purchase a universal or original remote control.

Just a side note! In addition to the remote control, TVs with Smart TV function can be controlled with a keyboard and mouse, both wired and Bluetooth. For connection you just need to insert the cable into the USB-port of the TV set. Detailed instructions on controlling the keyboard and mouse can be found in the user manual.

Deleting and editing channels

You can delete and edit channels in the menu of the TV panel in the “Broadcast” tab. To do this, you need to go to the “Edit” section. To remove some of the channels, you need to mark them in the list and click “Delete”. To change the number you need to select the TV channel and specify the new value.

Blocking broadcasts

To lock some of the TV channels (e.G. From children), you need to open the TV receiver menu, go to “Broadcasting” and select the item “Lock”. To enable the function, select “Change”, check the channels you want to lock and set a password to confirm the action. The default setting is “0000”, but these numbers can be changed.

Setting 3D

If the TV supports 3D according to its passport data, then the setting of this format can be reduced to simply turning on the “3d support” function in the service menu. This is where the difficulties usually begin.

The thing is, you can’t enter the “Service Menu” without the remote. A full-size remote control is required for input. New models of TV equipment have in their set two remotes: regular and Smart (pointer). In older generation of TV’s (e.G. Model MU6172U) there is only a Smart remote control, which does not allow you to enter the “service menu” so easily. Press the following combination on the remote control one after another: INFO-MENU-MUTE-POWER, the TV screen must be switched off.

Tip: ! For those who bought an optional remote wand (if your TV is not pre-installed an option to support this remote control), you must first activate it in the service menu from the regular remote.

Further problems are possible with the demonstration of 3D format. When this function is turned on the TV screen can simply be absent. And it has to do with the 3D matrix: if it is less than 100 Hz (for Samsung TV receivers the parameter must be at least 120 Hz) the display in 3D is simply impossible. Therefore, this possibility should be discussed when choosing and buying a TV.

By activating the menu item “No Glass 3D Support”, you can check the function without glasses. If you have it, and everything is normal with it, the image on the screen will be double and triple.

How to adjust the “digital” on an old Samsung, which does not support digital TV

If it turns out that the TV receiver is not capable of receiving the current broadcast standard or does not have a digital tuner at all, the user can do the following:

  • Buy a new TV. Not the most affordable option.
  • Connect a digital set-top box. If you only need to watch programs, it will cost you several times less than buying a second TV.

With the use of the receiver can be associated with a separate difficulty: it does not catch analog television signals. If you want to watch both local and federal programs, take care not only of an antenna of the appropriate type, but also of a splitter splitter for antenna cable. It is necessary for the signal to come both to the receiver and to the antenna socket of the TV set at the same time. Then the transition between different types of broadcasting will be as follows:
