Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint review

The Keris Wireless Aimpoint is an updated mouse from Asus ROG’s inventory. The Aimpoint sensor, which is included in the name, is on board. Besides this, the mouse offers something very special. A feature that isn’t really found very often. We won’t tell you too much though, read more in our review.

Technical details

Scope of delivery

On the box, we find all sorts of information about the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint, in addition to a large image. Not only what awards one has received, but also how you can connect the mouse. On the back there are interesting facts about the technical data, the sensor and the exchangeable switches.

Inside we finally find the mouse. We could almost overlook the USB receiver for 2.4 GHz transmission, as it is located inside the Keris Wireless Aimpoint. Other accessories include a 2-meter Paracord USB-C cable, two Omron D2F-01F switches, grip tape, mouse sliders, as well as a few ROG stickers and a manual.

The ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint gaming mouse is surprisingly pretty good!

So not only do we have the option to swap out the switches on the Keris Wireless Aimpoint, but two matching ones are included. Even new mouse gliders are included in case the old ones give up the ghost. With the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint, you don’t have to worry about the replaceable parts.

Design and Workmanship

Connoisseurs of the Keris Wireless will directly get along with the successor. In terms of form, nothing has changed, after all, it was only brought up to the latest technical standards. The asymmetrical shape is suitable for all grip shapes, but unfortunately the mouse is only suitable for right-handers.

On the palm rest we find a large Asus ROG logo. Since this is designed to be transparent, we can see the RGB lighting here. Since the Keris Wireless Aimpoint is a wireless mouse, only this is illuminated. On the one hand it saves weight, on the other hand it also extends the battery life.

Together with the two main buttons, there is only the mouse wheel on the top. Asus provides two additional buttons on the left side. Since we can operate the mouse via USB or wirelessly in 2.4 GHz network and Bluetooth, there is a switch on the bottom. The DPI switch can also be found here. There are also four PFTE gliders attached here.

The overall material and build quality is right on the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint. The material used is coherent and the different grip fits perfectly.

Software

No matter which peripherals you use from Asus ROG, the Armoury Crate is always used. Hardware like motherboards or AiO coolers are also supported here, even the laptops are managed via this software.

Unfortunately, the Asus Armoury Crate is very overloaded and you can’t find the peripherals you want to configure at first glance. Once you have found the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint, the settings are tidy and self-explanatory. You can create profiles, of which up to five can be stored on the onboard memory. All buttons can be freely configured via the item Buttons. All mouse functions are adjustable, as are keyboard functions and macros. We can also set the individual DPI levels.

A small special feature is probably the adaptation of the sensor to different surfaces. You can choose from different Asus (ROG) mouse pads or have an automatic calibration. The RGB effects can also be adjusted via the Armoury Crate. We don’t have too many choices here, but enough for a wireless mouse.

Practical test

With the asymmetrical shape, the ergonomics can convince. Due to the size, users with large hands may have to get used to a new grip. However, with the Claw Grip, any right-handed user can use the mouse. Together with the weight of only 75 grams and the gliding feet, Asus ROG provides us with a great handling with the Keris Wireless Aimpoint.

The side parts as well as the palm rest provide grip, since the surfaces and the plastic used provide slip resistance when holding. The mouse buttons themselves are not quite as slip-proof. If there is a need, however, the included grip tape can be applied.

Another important point of the Keris Wireless Aimpoint, is the new sensor. Asus ROG states up to 36,000 DPI, really a lot considering that many will surely only use a fraction. In return, it has a high level of precision. On the Keris Wireless Aimpoint, the DPI switch is located on the bottom, which makes it difficult to quickly switch through. You can set a button as the DPI switch via the software, but there is no button to set a macro if necessary.

The switches also play a very important role in a gaming mouse like the Keris Wireless Aimpoint. The actuation path is short, and the mouse buttons and switches can be operated smoothly without much effort. A reaction takes place immediately without a noticeable delay. If the switches give up the ghost, you can easily replace them. Suitable replacement parts are conveniently included.

The battery life is stated at 86 hours or 119 hours without RGB lighting. It doesn’t seem to matter whether we are connected to the mouse via Bluetooth or wireless. In the test, we could confirm this with a deviation of almost four percent, which is still a good value. Depending on the usage profile, your value can be higher or lower.

Exchange Switches

The Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint features interchangeable switches, probably the biggest feature of the mouse. And as promised by the manufacturer, replacement is really easy. On the bottom, two screws are hidden under a rubber cover. After unscrewing them, the cover can be removed.

The two switches for the left and right mouse buttons are then hidden under the lid. You simply pull them out without tools and put on the new ones. It doesn’t matter which one I use. They only have to be 3- or 5-pin switches. And as it looks, the battery can also be replaced quickly. Put the cover back on, tighten the screws and put the rubber cover back on. The Keris Wireless Aimpoint is ready to go again – with new switches.

Summary of the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint

While the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint is basically just an update with new technology, the whole package is still right. The shape and size takes some getting used to for large hands at first, especially if you have to change your grip style. The workmanship of the mouse is very good and the materials used, PBT for the case and PTFE for the gliding feet, are of high quality.

The ability to swap out its switches, be it to install others or replace defective ones, is a big plus. While not officially described, the battery can also be quickly swapped. The precise sensor with 36,000 DPI and the battery life also make quite a statement. The only thing we really have to question is the positioning of the DPI switch.

For just under 100 Euros, the Asus ROG Keris Wireless Aimpoint is certainly no bargain. The interchangeability of the switches as well as the included accessories make the mouse durable, or you can easily take care of it yourself. We can definitely recommend the Keris Wireless Aimpoint from Asus ROG.
