Redmi K60 series launched: Finally, a Redmi smartphone with wireless charging

While the Redmi sub-brand has always been known to offer great value for money, it’s also not normally where you would go to if you wanted the absolute latest quality of life features. One feature that has eluded the Redmi lineup since the beginning has been wireless charging, as Xiaomi has kept it only for its mainstream flagship series, but that’s about to change with the new Redmi K60 series launch in China.

Redmi K60 Pro specs

The Redmi K60 Pro is the Chinese company’s newest flagship smartphone following the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, packing in the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage too… unless you’re using the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, in which case you’re stuck with the older and slightly slower UFS 3.1 storage instead. It’ll also come with MIUI 14 out of the box.

As for it’s display, you’ll be staring at a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 1440 x 3200p resolution using a CSOT panel. It pushes a 120Hz refresh rate, has a 480Hz touch sampling rate and can display a peak brightness of 1400nits. The display is also rated for a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space along with support for HDR 10 and HDR Vivid.

Meanwhile, in the camera department, the Redmi K60 Pro features a triple camera system on the rear with a main 50MP camera using the 1/1.49-inch Sony IMX800. It gets flanked by an 8MP ultrawide camera along with a 2MP macro lens. You also get a 16MP front-facing camera for all your selfie needs.

Elsewhere, perhaps the most interesting new feature on the Redmi K60 Pro is that it now features 30W wireless charging, along with its 5,000mAh battery and 120W wired fast charging. Wireless charging has so far only been used on the Mi 9 and newer as well as the Mi Mix 2 and newer, so it’s certainly a nice surprise to see the feature trickle down to what’s typically their more budget-friendly option.

The Redmi K60 Pro also features an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, stereo speakers, and support for NFC, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G and Bluetooth 5.3. It measures 8.59mm thick and weighs 205g with a standard glass back, along with a special Champion Performance edition that has a kevlar-style rear instead. It’ll be available in white, black and green colourways.

At the moment, the Redmi K60 Pro starts at CNY3,299 (~RM2091.80) for the base model, while for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage it’s priced at CNY3,599 (~RM2282.02) instead. For more RAM, you can also opt for the 12GB256GB model for CNY3,899 (~RM2472.24), with the highest spec version coming in at CNY4,299 (~RM2725.87) for 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

That being said, you’ll likely never actually see the Redmi K60 Pro or any of its other stable mates being sold here, as the Redmi K lineup has typically been a China-only release. If you do want one of these devices though, Xiaomi typically rebadges them for a global release under its Poco marque instead; the Poco F4 GT from earlier this year for instance was a rehashed Redmi K50 Gaming, while the popular Poco F3 from last year was a Redmi K40.

Redmi K60 specs

As is typically the case with the Redmi K lineup, you can expect to find a non-Pro version too, which in this case is the Redmi K60. While it may lack the Pro moniker, it still packs the same 6.67-inch, 1440 x 3200p OLED display as the Redmi K60 Pro, with a 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of 1400nits.

The biggest downgrade though for the Redmi K60 is that it comes with the now outdated Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 instead of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, though we’re pretty sure that will still be more than enough for most people. You’re also getting up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, along with MIUI 14 out of the box.

The Redmi K60 will pack a triple rear camera setup too, though it loses the 50MP camera with the IMX800 sensor. Instead, it packs a 64MP main camera with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro lens alongside it. In front meanwhile the Redmi K60 has a 16MP selfie camera.

Keeping the lights on is a larger 5,500mAh battery though it doesn’t get the same 120W wired fast charging. Instead, it has a much more modest 67W wired fast charging along with the 30W wireless charging. You’ll also get stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster and support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G and NFC. It comes in at 204g and measures just 8.59mm thick, with blue, green and white glass-back versions along with a black leather-back version.

The Redmi K60 starts at CNY2,499 (~RM1584.54) for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while for twice the storage you’ll have to shell out CNY2,699 (~RM1711.36). You can also get a Redmi K60 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for CNY2,999 (~RM1901.58) while for CNY3,299 (~RM2091.80) you get double the storage. The top spec Redmi K60 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage meanwhile will set you back CNY3,599 (~RM2282.02).

Redmi K60E specs

Last but not least, we have the Redmi K60E. Despite being the runt of the litter, it still packs the same sized display, with a 6.67-inch, 1440 x 3200p Samsung E4 OLED display pushing a 120Hz refresh rate and a 480Hz touch sampling rate, as well as a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

redmi, xiaomi

Under the hood meanwhile, the Redmi K60E drops Qualcomm altogether, with Xiaomi instead opting for a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 which is still a rather powerful chip, similar to the likes of the Snapdragon 888 from yesteryear. This gets mated to up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and comes with MIUI 13 out of the box.

In the camera department meanwhile, you get a main 48MP camera using a Sony IMX582 sensor flanked by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro lens, with a 20MP selfie camera up front which is curiously higher res than its other two siblings. You’ll also find a 5,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging, however it unfortunately loses out on the wireless charging capability.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a side fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster and support for NFC, 5G, Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6, though no mention of stereo speakers here. The Redmi K60 measures 8.48mm thick and weighs 202g, and will come in white, black and green colourways.

The Redmi K60E is priced at CNY2,199 (~RM1394.32) for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with double the storage space costing you CNY2,399 (~RM1521.14). For CNY2,599 (~RM1647.95) meanwhile you can get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with the top spec model priced at CNY2,799 (~RM1774.77) for 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Redmi Unveils K60 Series; Pro Model Ships Out With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Xiaomi has unveiled the new Redmi K60 series comprised of three phones — the K60, K60 Pro, and the K60E. Interestingly, the K60E is the brand’s first smartphone carrying the “E” moniker, which seems to be the slightly downgraded but still high-end device of the bunch.

Redmi K60 Pro

The K60 Pro is Redmi’s top-tier flagship device with all the top specs you could expect at the tail-end of 2022. The phone sports a 1440p 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 480Hz touch sampling rate, and a peak brightness of 1400 nits.

Powering the premium phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with LPDDR5X memory options between 8GB or 16GB and up to 512GB of storage. It runs on a 5000mAh battery with support for 120W of wired charging and 30W of wireless charging.

It’s got a triple-camera setup made up of a 50MP Sony IMX800 primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. Up front, the punch hole cutout houses a 16MP selfie shooter.

Coming in four colours, including a Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team edition, the Redmi K60 Pro starts at CNY3299 (~RM2100) for the base 8GB128GB model. The highest configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage goes for CNY4599 (~RM2920).

Redmi K60

The vanilla version of the K60 shares a lot of the same specs as the Pro variant, the biggest differences on it being the SoC and battery. It has the same 1440p 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nit peak brightness.

Under the hood, the phone uses the last-gen flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. The memory and storage get a slight downgrade compared to its higher-end counterpart with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 respectively — it can be configured with between 8GB to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

The K60 similarly carries three cameras but the main camera has been switched out with a 64MP sensor that also has OIS, while the other two lenses are the same 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. The story is the same up front with a 16MP selfie camera.

The battery charging speed is significantly slower than the Pro at only 67W for wired charging, although it still has 30W wireless charging. To compensate for the reduced charging speed, the battery capacity got a noticeable bump at 5,500mAh.

The standard Redmi K60 starts at CNY2499 (~RM1590) for the base model and carries a price tag of CNY3599 (~RM2290) for the decked-out version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Redmi K60E

The K60E is the most affordable option of the premium lineup with only slightly reduced specs for those who don’t need a bleeding-edge flagship. The device also has a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1440p resolution, but the brightness can only go up to 1,200 nits.

Instead of a Qualcomm chip, the heart of the phone’s internals is the Dimensity 8200 chipset. It offers up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a maximum of 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Just like the vanilla K60, has a 5,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging but being the lower-end of the series, it lacks wireless charging.

As for the cameras, it has a 48MP main shooter, 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. The front camera sees a slight advantage over its more expensive counterparts with a 20MP sensor.

The Redmi K60E will be sold in black, white, and black with a starting price of CNY2,199 (~RM1,400) for the base model while the top 12GB512GB configuration is priced at CNY2799 (~RM1780). Xiaomi has not announced when the series will be coming to international markets.
