Xiaomi Redmi Note 8t 32GB Review

Platform and performance

An eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 with Adreno 610 graphics is used as a processor. This is a mid-level ARM chip, so you should not count on high performance. The model has several modifications with 3/4 GB of RAM and 32/64/128 GB of memory. The smartphone does not have the fastest eMMC memory, judging by the test results not higher than the fifth version (the manufacturer had to save on something).

Under prolonged heavy load, throttling appears. In the CPU Throttling test, the processor dropped to 71% of its maximum performance in 15 minutes. But in practice, Redmi Note 8T behaves without any lags or brakes, the interface is drawn smoothly and quickly, but playing demanding games at high settings will not work.

As for the network and wireless communication, we can highlight the support for two SIM-cards and VoLTE technology (to improve the quality of voice transmission). It is not yet available for Ukrainian subscribers, but the fact that it works with a smartphone is good.

The device is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth version 5.0. Also, Redmi Note 8T has NFC. this is a definite plus of any device, fans of the brand will be pleased. over, in big cities the contactless payment method is gaining momentum. it is practical and convenient.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T runs on Google Android 9.0 operating system.

Even before testing began, the smartphone received an update in the form of a proprietary MIUI 11.0.3 shell. She, as always, is replete with settings and will delight lovers of customization. The user interface has changed in the fresh shell, but nothing fundamentally new, other than a significant update to personalized use, was found.

Communication quality and sound

During a phone call, the interlocutors can be heard clearly, and they, in turn, do not complain about the quality of speech transmission. There is only one multimedia speaker, it sounds loud and surprisingly high quality. The sound is clear, spacious with well-developed highs and mids. No wheezing was noticed at the maximum volume level. Watching and listening to multimedia content on Redmi Note 8T is pleasant. The lower range is missing, but this privilege was left to the flagships. If the speaker gets dirty through the grill, then there is a special function in the settings: “speaker cleaning”.

It’s nice that they didn’t remove the 3.5 mm jack, because a high-quality wireless headset will cost at least half the price of a smartphone. The line is still budgetary, and this somehow does not fit with additional spending.

Wireless headphones connect without problems and work stably, no interference was observed.

If someone needs a radio, then it is in the smartphone, but as usual it will work only with connected wired headphones that act as an antenna.

Design and ergonomics

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T is a 6.3-inch smartphone, the non-separable body of which is protected on both sides by Gorilla Glass 5. The sides are made of plastic and painted in the color of the back panel.

On the sides and on top of the front side, the frame does not take up much space, but at the bottom there is a noticeable protrusion, the so-called “chin”. To make the space not empty, a brand logo was placed on it. Above the display, in the teardrop notch, is the front camera.

What I didn’t like was the lack of a notification indicator. I don’t know if it is possible to save a lot on this during production, but it’s inconvenient without it, and I would prefer to pay extra.

On the back panel, the camera block is immediately evident. It is located vertically and protrudes significantly above the surface of the rear panel.

This feature is inherent not only to the guest of the review, but also to other models, and not only Xiaomi. This decision is not at all a whim of designers, it is dictated by purely practical motives. The design of a modern camera is influenced by the size of the matrix and the complex design of the lenses. To hide the unit flush, you will have to make the case thicker, and this is unlikely to be liked by anyone.

Next to the camera is a flash LED and a fingerprint scanner.

All controls and connectors are in familiar and convenient places.

On the top there is a noise canceling microphone and an IR transmitter window. Above the hole, at the junction between the side edge and the screen, there is an earpiece. On the left side edge there is a SIM card tray (it supports the installation of two nanoSIM cards plus microSD memory cards). This is undoubtedly a big plus, you can simultaneously connect to two operators and expand the internal memory of the device if necessary. This opportunity will be especially useful for those who purchase one of the younger models of the line, where there is not so much internal memory, by today’s standards.

On the right side there is a power button and a volume rocker. Below you can find a USB Type-C connector, a double hole for the main microphone, a multimedia speaker and a mini-jack for connecting a wired headset.

In general, today it is already difficult to call such an original appearance. In the hand, Redmi Note 8T lies comfortably, although it feels a bit bulky, but in general there are no questions about ergonomics. Those who are accustomed to using devices with a plastic case may complain about the considerable weight of 200 grams, for them this weight will be unusual at first. The dimensions of the smartphone are 161 x 75 x 8.6 mm. It is presented in several colors: gray, blue and white.

At the end of last year, Xiaomi’s management announced the separation of the Mi and Redmi brands. The products of the first have a premium, flagship status, and Redmi devices are positioned as budget ones. Smartphones of the latter, balanced in design and characteristics, due to their low cost, have always attracted particular interest in our area. Today we have a smartphone that breaks sales records. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T.

Safety

The creators did not come up with some original way of blocking, everything remained as before. Fingerprint scanner operation is not stable, unlocking delays often occur.

Most of the time it works quickly, but the fact that the quality of the sensor is noticeably worse than the flagships is a fact. There is not much to write about face lock, it works well in normal lighting, but if we talk about security, this is not the best way to protect your data on Android devices.

Redmi Note 8T cameras

Redmi Note 8T is equipped with four cameras: main (48 MP, 0.8 microns, 1/2 ″ matrix, viewing angle 79.4 °), ultra-wide angle (8 MP, 1.12 microns, viewing angle 120 °, ƒ / 2 aperture. 2), macro (2 Mp, 1.75 μm, / 2.4 aperture, autofocus) and depth sensor (2 Mp, 1.75 µm, ƒ / 2.4 aperture). Photos are taken by a smartphone with a maximum resolution of 8000 × 6000 and video in 4K at 30 fps.

The camera app interface is simple and intuitive. The main module takes 12-megapixel images by default, but if you wish, you can switch to the “48 M” mode and get a frame with a resolution of 8000 x 6000 pixels. This is most likely a marketing gimmick, because in a face-to-face comparison of two frames shot in different modes, we failed to get an increase in detail. Most likely high resolution is achieved by interpolation. Considering that the image obtained in this way has almost three times the size, there is no practical sense in the “48 M” mode.

The frames shot with the main camera are moderately saturated, quite detailed.

A decent dynamic range can be expanded by activating HDR, especially in contrasting scenes.

Shooting at night in the mode of the same name gives a satisfactory result .

The shots taken with the ultra-wide-angle module are worse than those of the main one: blurry edges of the frame, low details. It does not make sense to use it in scenes with insufficient illumination, the pictures are illegible.

Macro mode does not do its job well. The footage is noisy with low detail and wrong white balance. Focus work in this mode is unsatisfactory, it often misses. If you have a little time left, then it is better to enlarge the image in the editor made with the main camera, the result will be much better.

Overall, the image quality of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T is good for its price range. But if you install the Google Camera app and configure it properly, the results will be overwhelming. Pictures will be transformed beyond recognition. This proves once again how much software influences the result.

Below are examples of shots taken under the same conditions. The difference is obvious, especially in low light conditions.

The front camera does a good job with the responsibilities assigned to it.

Using a third-party application, you need to be prepared for aggressive image processing, here you have to tinker a little with the settings.

Video in max resolution 4K at 30 fps looks good, but I would like to have more correct image stabilization.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T is an affordable camera phone with NFC support. Redmi Note 8T screen

The smartphone uses a 6.3-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. As noted earlier, the display is covered with a fifth generation Gorilla Glass. Despite this, I still managed to accidentally leave a few small scratches on the front panel, although I used it carefully.

The manufacturer uses good matrices when creating its devices, and this time was no exception. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T is equipped with an excellent screen that reproduces rich colors and does not distort them from different viewing angles. The stock of brightness is enough in sunny weather, and the minimum level will delight those who like to read in the dark, the brightness of the display will not irritate the eyes and disturb others. After measuring the brightness of the display, the following results were obtained: maximum. 401 cd / m², minimum. 1 cd / m². Auto brightness mode works smoothly and responds adequately to ambient light.

In the settings, you can change the screen parameters. There is a “reading mode” and “dark mode” to relieve eye strain. The “color scheme” option will allow you to customize the color tone.

The oleophobic coating is not of the best quality, but it is unlikely that the average user will notice it. The difference is obvious only in face-to-face comparison with some top-end device.

If you pay attention to the indicators of the graphs, you can see that the display is not so perfect. The color temperature is slightly colder than the norm and is around 7000K. But if desired, this can be corrected, in the smartphone settings there is such an opportunity. The color balance chart gives out far from benchmark indicators, but given the cost of the smartphone, I would not quibble, especially since the display has proven itself well in everyday life.

Autonomy Redmi Note 8T

The Redmi Note 8T uses a built-in 4000mAh Li-ion polymer battery. The smartphone supports 18W fast charging. The autonomy of the device is all right, under normal loads it will confidently hold out for a day and a half.

Synthetics also confirm practical results. In the PCMark battery test with a screen brightness of 200 cd / m², the smartphone lasted 10 hours and 37 minutes.

Hope dies last. Smartphone Review Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T

Users of the Xiaomi brand are a special category of people with a very pragmatic mindset. The main motive when buying Xiaomi, like 6-7 years ago, when the brand was just gaining popularity, remains the question: “why pay more?”.

Consistency has been and remains the strength of the Xiaomi brand.

From year to year, the company is trying to produce smartphones that compare favorably with competitors in terms of price-quality ratio. Well, at the same time, the MIUI proprietary shell is being refined, which is trying to take the best of both worlds. the elegance of iOS and the functionality of Android.

But in recent years, Xiaomi has not been as comfortable as it used to be. Chinese relatives of Huawei / Honor also got the hang of producing sensible inexpensive smartphones.

And Samsung, which for many years openly ignored the budget segment, suddenly gave birth to a successful updated A-series.

Xiaomi has to move to get the attention of users again. This is how several novelties of the end of 2019 were born, including the hero of this material. the Note 8T smartphone under the subsidiary brand Redmi.

With a price tag of around 200, the new product has a pretty decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor (even some decent toys pull), a main camera with four modules (the main one is already 48 MP), and an NFC module. Oh yes, there is also a 4000 mAh battery and a non-hybrid (!) Slot for two SIM cards.

In a word, the maximum bet has been made here. This model was born to be a bestseller.

Now let’s see what the Redmi Note 8T is in practice, and what is the fate of this device.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T. design

Let Xiaomi fans take offense at me if they want to, but I’ll say right away that I’m not a big fan of the company’s design solutions lately.

Most of the brand’s smartphones look very similar and trivial.

Redmi Note 8T is no exception. A regular “rectangle” with trendy gradient colors of the body (thanks to Huawei for this trend, of course).

Most interesting of all, Redmi Note 8T, as it seems to me, looks in white. I turned out to be gray. the most boring. There is also blue, but it is quite similar to the recent solutions from Huawei.

The corners of the case are pleasantly rounded, the device lies well in the hands. But 200 g of weight with a case thickness of 8.6 mm is still a lot. Redmi Note 8T is perceived as a large and weighty smartphone. Many won’t like it.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8t 32GB Review

The noticeable “chin” at the screen somewhat spoils the impression of the front. The bezels are insignificant at the top and sides of the screen, but the bezel is impressive at the bottom. So much so that the manufacturer even decided to squeeze the Redmi inscription there. This solution looks strange and frankly makes the smartphone cheaper.

On both the front and back, the manufacturer claims 5th generation Gorilla Glass. This is, of course, very cool. But the oleophobic coating is a C grade here. The smartphone gets very dirty with fingerprints. I want to wipe it all the time.

I understand that many such claims will seem ridiculous. and the size of the smartphone and the oleophobic coating do not play such an important role in our age of rampant case-cracking. The majority of users, even those who are not at all advanced, have long learned to seal the screen with a film in the nearest shopping center and squeeze a smartphone into a case with all sorts of “bunnies” or “batmen”.

The designers did not try to beat the main camera module with four lenses. They just slapped how it happened. But here it is stupid to find fault, other smartphones for this money, for example, the same Huawei, en masse have the same “lazy” solutions.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T review

The Redmi Note needs no introduction. this is the most popular line of smartphones from Xiaomi. In 2019, Xiaomi released a cool budget employee Redmi Note 8, and after a month or two improved it and rolled it out to the market again. The phone was named Redmi Note 8T. Looking ahead, I will say that there are two key differences between the regular Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T: the presence of NFC and fast charging from the box of the latter. But first things first.

Performance

Inside there is a 4000 mAh battery, the capacity is the same as on a regular Redmi Note 8. But the kit comes with a charger that corresponds to Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

Test results:

  • Talking time: 27:19 h
  • Web surfing: 14:50 h
  • Video playback: 14:29 h
  • Charging speed: 45% in 30 minutes

The score for autonomy is 9 on a 10-point scale. There are phones on the market that can squeeze more out of a 4000mAh battery. But Redmi Note 8 is exceptionally good in all operating modes.

Characteristics

  • Body: Gorilla Glass 5 front and back, plastic frame
  • Screen: IPS, 6.3 ”, 2340 × 1080, 409 ppi
  • Rear camera: main sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels, f / 1.8 wide-angle camera 8 megapixels, f / 2.2; macro camera. 2 megapixels, f / 2.4; depth sensor. 2 Mp. 4K / 30 FPS video recording possible
  • Front camera: 13 MP, f / 2, video recording in Full HD / 30 FPS
  • OS: Android 9 Pie MIUI 10
  • Processor: 11nm Snapdragon 665 Adreno 610
  • Memory: 3/4 or 6 GB RAM disk 32/64/128 GB dedicated microSD card slot
  • Battery: 4000 mAh, fast charging 18W
  • Communication and connectors: Dual SIM, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi 5 GHz, 2-band GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, FM radio, NFC
  • Other: rear fingerprint scanner, 3.5 mm jack, one multimedia speaker on the bottom
  • Package Contents: 18W Charger, Silicone Case

Screen

The display is good here. this is confirmed by the test results. In addition, the top is covered with durable Gorilla Glass 5, which is slightly scratch-resistant.

Testing data from GSMArena studio at 100% backlight:

  • Brightness of white color in automatic mode: 600 cd / m2
  • Manual white brightness: 450 cd / m2
  • Black (Auto): 0.450 cd / m2
  • Black (Manual: 0.331 cd / m2
  • Contrast (Auto): 1325: 1
  • Contrast (manual): 1360: 1
  • DeltaE color accuracy: 0.7 in Standard Contrast mode (ideal)
  • Minimum brightness: 0.25 cd / m2

The above specs lead to the conclusion that the screen on the Redmi Note 8T is exceptionally good. better than most mid-range and budget smartphones on the market.

Camera

The main camera sensor on Redmi Note 8T is Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM2 with a resolution of 48 megapixels; its physical size was 1 / 2.25 “, that is, it is a fairly large matrix; front. optics with f / 1.8 aperture, no stabilization.

Additional cameras: wide-angle with a viewing angle of 119 degrees and a resolution of 8 megapixels; macro camera with a resolution of 2 Mp and a depth sensor of 2 Mp.

As for the quality of shooting, everything is in order here: the images are good, with high details and wide dynamic range in good light. There is an HDR mode, but you don’t need to use it during the day. There are no serious problems in “width”, the only nitpicking is the limited dynamic range, but this is the norm.

At night, the Redmi Note 8T delivers stunning images, arguably the best in its class. I was surprised correctly and not very aggressive work of the noise control. in Xiaomi they found the optimal middle, in which there is a small amount of noise in the images, but details are preserved.

As for the front camera, everything is in order here too: selfies are detailed, with accurate colors, good contrast even without the HDR mode. In general, given the low price tag of the phone, the quality is beyond praise.

Performance

The Redmi Note 8T has the same mid-range processor as the Redmi Note 8, Mi A3. It is an energy efficient platform with 8 cores and Adreno 610 graphics.

Benchmark test results and comparison with competitors:

Redmi Note 8T Xiaomi Mi A3 Xiaomi Redmi Note 8
GeekBench 4.1 (multi-core) 5620 5686 5590
GeekBench 4.1 (single core) 1519 1531 1512
GFX 3.1 Manhattan Graphics Test (onscreen) eleven 27 eleven
GFX 3.1 Graphics Test Automotive Scene (On Screen) 5.9 13 5.9
AnTuTu 7 141077 140633 141915

Redmi Note 8T is a fairly productive smartphone that can hardly handle games. But there are no complaints about the work of the shell: everything flies. There was no strong case heating during testing, and this is good.

Conclusion, pros and cons

What’s good:

  • Cool Gorilla Glass 5 design
  • Large screen with high brightness and exceptionally accurate colors
  • High battery life
  • MIUI 10 MIUI 11 is on its way
  • Cool camera. even better than on Redmi Note 8
  • There is a slot for microSD, 3.5 mm jack, NFC and even an infrared port

Disadvantages:

  • Not the best performance
  • No notification indicator

Over the past year, Xiaomi, as usual, has released a large number of various smartphones, confused users with renaming and re-positioning of lines and promised to revise the pricing policy for its top-end devices, which was not slow to affect the Mi Note 10 Pro, which appeared in the official Russian retail for unprecedented Xiaomi 45 thousand rubles, and later on the flagship Mi 10.

But still, no matter how the manufacturer tries to turn the tide, in the minds of millions of users, Xiaomi products are strongly associated with an affordable price. And it’s good that this is still true: Redmi Note 8T is just one of the very affordable smartphones, the price of which, moreover, has managed to drop noticeably in a few months. What this inexpensive mobile device with five cameras and NFC support is capable of, we will consider in this review.

Appearance and usability

Redmi Note 8T has not received an expensive design, this smartphone with a very simple body geometry, a plastic side frame and completely flat front and back panels looks exactly for its money, does not look more expensive than its level.

In the hand, a smartphone, even with such a chubby and rustic body weighing 200 grams, would be well held due to the wide side edges, which, thank God, did not narrow down here. However, the smartphone is still very slippery, because the plastic of the side frame is smooth and glossy. Why gloss is here is completely incomprehensible. The sides had to be made matt, non-marking and non-slip.

The block of four cameras at the back sticks out noticeably beyond the surface, so the smartphone does not lie stable on the table. The fingerprint scanner is located here, on the back, there are no complaints about it.

The front camera is hidden in a waterdrop-shaped notch in the screen. It takes up very little space, but there are users who are nervous even with such a small cut. But the fact that the device does not have a notification light is a huge disadvantage. Especially considering the IPS screen.

The side buttons do not differ tactilely, but are well located on one sidewall, have a pleasant springy travel, there are generally no complaints about them.

The design flaws are partially compensated for by a three-slot tray, in which you can simultaneously put two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD memory card. Hot swappable cards supported.

At the bottom there is a speaker, microphone, USB Type-C connector and 3.5 mm audio output for headphones.

An additional microphone and an IR transmitter are located on the top end. Among the preinstalled programs there is a Mi remote control for emulating the remote control.

Redmi Note 8T is available in three colors: white, blue and black (Moonlight White, Starscape Blue, Moonshadow Gray). The smartphone case did not receive full protection from dust and moisture.

Screen

Redmi Note 8T is equipped with an IPS-display with a diagonal of 6.3 inches and a resolution of 2340 × 1080, covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Physical dimensions are 67 × 146 mm, aspect ratio. 19.5: 9, dot density. 409 ppi. The width of the bezel around the screen is 4 mm at the sides, 5 mm at the top and 9 mm at the bottom, the bezel is wide for today.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than that of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left. Nexus 7, on the right. Redmi Note 8T, then they can be distinguished by their size):

The screen of the Redmi Note 8T is noticeably darker (the brightness in the photos is 104 versus 114 for the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the Redmi Note 8T screen is very weak, this indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen. One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with greatly different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of intense ambient light, but their repair in the case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repelling) coating (better than Nexus 7 in efficiency), so fingerprints are much easier to remove, and appear at a slower speed than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with a full-screen white field, the maximum brightness value was about 470 cd / m² under normal conditions, and in very bright light it rises to 630 cd / m². The maximum brightness is very high and given the excellent anti-glare properties, the readability of the screen should be good even on a sunny day outdoors. The minimum brightness value is 1 cd / m², so in complete darkness the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by the light sensor (it is to the right of the cutout of the front speaker, very close to the top edge of the front panel). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider: with it the user can try to set the desired brightness level in the current conditions. If you do not intervene, then in complete darkness the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 7.5 cd / m2 (low), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 550 lux) it sets to 100 cd / m2 (normal), and conditionally in direct sunlight the brightness reaches 630 cd / m² (maximum, this is what you need). We slightly increased the brightness in complete darkness and for the above three conditions we got 15, 120 and 630 cd / m², this result was fine for us. It turns out that the automatic brightness control function works adequately and allows the user to customize his work for individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker either.

This smartphone uses an IPS-type matrix. The micrographs show the typical IPS sub-pixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen and without tint inversion. For comparison, we present photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Redmi Note 8T and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m², and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K.

White field perpendicular to screens:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field.

And the test picture:

Colors on the screen of the Redmi Note 8T have a slightly higher saturation than natural, the color balance of the Nexus 7 and the tested screen is different. The photo was taken in the case of the Auto profile in the screen settings:

In the case of the Saturated profile, there are no noticeable differences from the Auto profile, and when the Standard profile is selected, the color saturation is slightly less and the color balance changes slightly:

Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens, but on the Redmi Note 8T the contrast decreased to a greater extent due to the strong black highlighting.

The brightness at an angle at the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in exposure), and decreased approximately the same. The black field is strongly lightened when deviated along the diagonal, but remains conventionally neutral gray. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from a different angle:

When viewed from a perpendicular view, the black field uniformity is excellent:

The contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high. about 1160: 1. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 21.5 ms (10 ms on 11.5 ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (by the numerical value of the color) and back takes 38 ms in total. The gamma curve, plotted using 32 points with equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal a blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.18, which is close to the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve slightly deviates from the power dependence:

This device has a dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness with an unobvious dependence on time and on the nature of the displayed image. As a result, the obtained dependence of brightness on the hue (gamma curve) may not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential display of shades of gray on almost the entire screen. For this reason, a number of tests. determining the contrast and response time, comparing the black illumination at angles. we carried out (however, as always) when displaying special templates with a constant average brightness, and not single-color fields across the entire screen. In general, such a non-switchable brightness correction does nothing but harm, since a constant change in screen brightness can at least cause some discomfort.

The color gamut in the case of the Auto profile is slightly wider than sRGB:

When you select a profile, Standard gamut shrinks to the sRGB borders:

The spectra show (Auto profile) that the matrix light filters mix the components to each other to a moderate extent:

At the same time, the humps of green and red are relatively well separated, which leads to a certain broadening of the color gamut.

By default, the color temperature is high, about 8500 K. However, in this device, when the Auto profile is selected, it is possible to correct the color balance by adjusting the hue by a dot on the color wheel or by choosing preset options. In addition, the correction is performed automatically when you select the Standard profile.

The result in the latter case is good (see graphs below), since the color temperature becomes close to the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) on most of the gray scale is below 10, which is considered a good indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE vary little from shade to shade. this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of the color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there does not really matter, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

In the settings, you can reduce the intensity of the blue component:

In principle, bright light can disrupt the circadian rhythm (see the article about iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch display), but everything is solved by adjusting the brightness to a comfortable level, and there is absolutely no distortion of the color balance, reducing the contribution of blue meaning.

To summarize: the screen has a very high maximum brightness (630 cd / m²) and has excellent anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level (down to 1 cd / m²). It is also acceptable to use a mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. The advantages of the screen include the presence of an effective oleophobic coating, no air gap in the layers of the screen and no visible flicker, high contrast and excellent uniformity of the black field, as well as close to sRGB color gamut and good color balance (after choosing the desired profile). The disadvantages are low stability of black to deviation of gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Given the importance of characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.

Camera

Redmi Note 8T is the owner of the so-called “quad camera”, as it is now customary to call smartphones with four rear modules. However, two modules (with the same characteristics. 2 Mp, 1 / 5.0 ″, 1.75 μm, f / 2.4) are used only to measure the depth of the scene and macro photography, so, in fact, there are only two main working modules. main and wide-angle, without telephoto.

The settings include manual mode, auto-HDR, panoramic, portrait, night, and slo-mo. There is no native ability to save images in RAW, but you can use third-party programs for this.

The main camera has a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 module (1 / 2.0 ″, 0.8 microns) and an f / 1.8 lens with a 79.4 ° field of view. There is PDAF phase detection autofocus, but no optical stabilization. By default, the camera shoots at a resolution of 12 megapixels with binning function (intelligent combining of 4 pixels in 1), and the maximum resolution mode of 48 megapixels is very convenient to turn on directly from the mode carousel without having to go into settings. We now see smartphones with 48-megapixel cameras very often, experience has been accumulated, and I must say that Redmi Note 8T is not the worst among its classmates. Small details in 48-megapixel photos cannot be seen, they always turn out blurry, a little fuzzy. And direct comparison with 12 Mp shots shows that 48 Mp shots do not have more details. Accordingly, there is no reason to shoot in this resolution, since it only “makes the picture heavier”.
