Turning On The Microphone On A Windows 7 Computer

Now, voice communication over the Internet is becoming increasingly popular, displacing the usual analogue, as well as creating streams and lessons. But for all this, you need to connect the microphone to the computer and activate it. Let’s see how this is done on a Windows 7 PC.

Turn on the microphone

After you have connected the microphone plug to the corresponding connector of the system unit, you must connect it to the operating system. If you use a regular laptop device, then in this case, of course, nothing is physically connected. Directly connecting in the case of a desktop PC, and in the case of a laptop is performed using the system tool “Sound”. But you can go to its interface in two ways: through Notification Area and with “Control Panel”. Next, we consider in detail the algorithm of actions when using these methods.

Method 1: “Notification Area”

First of all, we will study the microphone connection algorithm through Notification Area or, as it is called in another way, a system tray.

Right click (RMB) by the speaker icon in the tray. In the list that opens, select Recording Devices.

The tool window will open “Sound” in the tab “Record”. If this tab is empty and you see only an inscription saying that the devices are not installed, then in this case click RMB by the empty space of the window, in the list that appears, select “Show disconnected devices”. If, when moving to the window, the elements are displayed, then simply skip this step and proceed to the next.

Click RMB by the name of the microphone to be activated. In the list that opens, select Enable.

After that, the microphone will be turned on, as evidenced by the appearance of a checkmark inscribed in a green circle. Now you can use this audio device for its intended purpose.

If these steps did not help you, then most likely you need to update the driver. It is best to use the drivers that are included with the microphone on the installation disc. Just insert the disk into the drive and follow all the recommendations that will be displayed on the screen. But if it does not exist or installation from the disk did not help, then some additional manipulations should be performed. First of all, type Win r. Drive into the opened window:

Will start “Device Manager”. Click on its section. Sound Devices.

In the list that opens, find the name of the microphone that you want to turn on, click on it RMB and select “Refresh”.

A window will open where you need to select an option “Automatic search.”.

  • After that, the necessary driver will be searched and installed if necessary. Now restart your PC, after which the microphone should start working.
  • In addition, you can use specialized software to search for and update drivers on the machine. For example, you can use DriverPack Solution.

    Method 2: “Control Panel”

The second method involves switching to a window “Sound” and microphone activation through “Control Panel”.

Click “Start”, and then click “Control Panel”.

Go to the section “Equipment and sound”.

    Now open the section “Sound”.

A window familiar from the previous method will be activated “Sound”. It requires you to go to the tab “Record”.

  • Then follow all the recommendations that were indicated in Method 1 starting from step 2. The microphone will be turned on.
  • Turning on the microphone in Windows 7 is done using the system tool “Sound”. But you can activate its window in two ways: through “Control Panel” and by clicking on the tray icon. You can choose the most convenient way for yourself, taking into account your own preferences. In addition, in some cases, reinstalling or updating the driver is required.
