Smartphone Redmi Note 7 32gb Review

Display

The diagonal of the screen in Redmi Note 7 is 6.3 inches. There are frames around it and quite noticeable, but there was still not enough space for the camera and it was not without a cutout. The aspect ratio was 19.5: 9. There are no problems with the software, games do not go beyond the cutout border. The FHD (2340 x 1080) screen resolution produces a pixel density of 409 ppi. This is perfectly sufficient for comfortable use.

Smartphone Redmi Note 7 32gb Review

The IPS-matrix, for a device with such a price tag, is well calibrated. In the preset profile, the picture is “coldish”, but its color gamut is excellent. But there is also a “warmer” profile with fairly correct color display. The viewing angles are fine. In general, hardly anyone will complain about the picture. It’s nice that even inexpensive devices already have wonderful screens.

Indoors the maximum brightness level was 420 cd / m², but outdoors this figure is clearly higher. The light sensor sometimes behaved strangely, greatly underestimating the comfortable brightness level. Perhaps this is a software defect that will be corrected later. The picture is clearly visible even in direct sunlight. There were no difficulties with the work of the sensor layer. Of course, we did not forget about the evening mode with a comfortable filter of shades of blue.

Package contents and first impressions

The box with the smartphone is nothing new: a paper clip, a case, and a charger with a detachable cable. There is no simple headset, but Xiaomi has many options available. And what is very nice, there is no need for an adapter for existing headphones, because, unlike flagship lines, cheaper smartphones do not get rid of the classic headphone jack. In our case, the smartphone also immediately had a branded protective glass, but, alas, the standard equipment of the device does not have such an accessory.

As in the case of the recently visited Xiaomi Mi 9, Redmi Note 7 also has a lot of ad insertions that come across in “native” applications every now and then. True, taking into account the cost of the subject, here they are not perceived so critically. And everything else at the start of working with the device does not stand out in anything fundamental.

The fingerprint scanner

While in the main smartphones there are new fingerprint sensors under the screen, or they disappear altogether in favor of other technologies for unlocking the device, Redmi Note 7 is equipped with a familiar scanner on the back. Its placement is personally comfortable for me, and there are no problems with the accuracy and speed of work.

In addition to the usual PIN-code, this is the only way to unlock the device, the smartphone did not receive the ability to face recognition using the front camera.

Sound is a typical problem in this class. only one speaker plays. This is not very good, because the screen is large and when watching a video, I really want to get sound from both sides of the picture, otherwise the balance is very noticeably shifted to one side. At the same time, the speaker itself is not bad even for listening to music, which is generally a rarity for smartphones in this price segment. But you should not expect miracles from him, he is far from the tops.

But there are no flagship manners with the abandonment of the headphone jack. True, it is located at the top, which is not very convenient in some situations. And the sound is enough for, for example, the armature Ultimate Ears to sound. For comparison, Mi 9 produces approximately the same sound through an adapter, which, again, is a very decent result for a state employee.

The speaker also does not fail. He may not be the loudest, near a noisy road with his help it will still be possible to talk. The noise canceling system will mute the microphone when the user is silent. The rest of the time, the microphone will still pass external noise into the conversation, but the owner’s voice will remain in priority.

Note 7. Review of the Redmi by Xiaomi smartphone. Autonomy

Probably, the body is plump because of the battery. Here it is slightly larger than the standard. 4000 mAh. According to the company’s website, this should be enough for 7 hours of games or 13 hours of video playback. The smartphone finished the PCMark battery test at around 10 hours 54 minutes, which is a good result. In my usual mode of work at the end of the day, the reserve remained decent, but for another day such a reserve would not be enough. On weekends, when the smartphone is given much less time, it survived two days without charging.

Suppose that the device supports Quick Charge 4, the complete power supply is simple (5V / 2A). A full charge from it will take 2 hours 15 minutes, which is not so long for such a capacity. Redmi Note 7 did not receive support for induction charging stations.

Design and usability

Despite the release of the Redmi line into a separate sub-brand, a reminder of the parent company remains on the smartphone. On the back there is the Redmi inscription, under which is added by Xiaomi. Also, the rearrangement in the company did not affect the appearance of the system. Therefore, you should not expect newness from the brand.

The body shape of the Redmi Note 7 reminded me of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. There are similar sides and a slightly protruding display. The dimensions of the case are also a bit similar: 159 × 75 × 8.1 mm, weight. 186 grams. But the placement of the cameras and the teardrop notch in the screen will differentiate these devices. There are three body colors: Gradient (Huawei-style) Neptune Blue and Nebula Red, as well as a regular black version as a test sample.

The body consists of glass panels at the front and back, and a glossy plastic frame in between. The smartphone seems to be not the most slippery, but the circumstances are different and the cover is clearly useful here (even the complete one will be enough if the question of aesthetics is not very worrisome). And with the current trends of large screens and, accordingly. large cases, the device has to be intercepted in the hand all the time, which increases the risk of accidental falls and related troubles. In addition, the case cannot be called very durable, so it should be handled with care.

There is nothing new in the controls yet. There are all the same volume and power buttons, a modern USB-C connector for charging and synchronization, and the aforementioned headphone jack remains. Some users will appreciate the infrared port for controlling home electronics. It worked correctly with the handy Philips and LG TVs.

Redmi Note 7 looks and feels significantly more expensive than its value. At the same time, the build quality does not cause any complaints. But obviously, using the device with one hand is not very convenient, this is a common feature of modern smartphones. I think that most users are already accustomed to such dimensions and will not have to get used to this smartphone for a long time. Otherwise, it’s hard to find fault with him.

If you look at the cost of Xiaomi’s flagship devices, then the price tag is really low against the background of A-brands. But not so long ago, the same 500-600 were just the market leaders, followed by the rest. Nevertheless, the company also has enough really affordable smartphones, and now there is not a separate line for them, but a sub-brand. Redmi. Today we are getting acquainted with the first such “independent” device Redmi Note 7, which just went on sale in Ukraine.

Performance and software

Redmi Note 7 not only looks like Mi 8 Lite, but inside they are similar. The subject also has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with Adreno 512. Different versions of the model differ in memory kits, where the minimum is 3/32 GB (as we have on the test), and the next. 4 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of storage. There is also a slot for a memory card, which replaces the second SIM-card. Support for working with Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 5.0 is there, but NFC is not here. Against the background of more and more public employees with access to Google Pay, this omission already looks like a significant drawback.

The test results and the feeling of performance in games are at the level of other devices with such “stuffing”, but, alas, the work of the software part is still difficult to call ideal. If Android 8 on this “hardware” managed to “finish”, then with Pie everything is a little different. There were tangible delays in the work, but it was not possible to establish the pattern of their occurrence. The reboot resolved this issue, but it was difficult to understand when the situation would repeat itself. Also, the GPS could lose contact and the navigation could lag behind what was happening a little. It will be great if the next updates correct the situation.

When there were no delays, everything was fine with the software. And the launch of applications was fast, and it turned out to be quick to navigate between them. If such stability was maintained, then the difference in reaction speed with the flagship would be in fractions of a second. And here you can even run demanding games with not the most modest graphics settings.

The pre-installed Android 9 OS is flavored with the MIUI 10.2.0.7 proprietary shell. Unlike the flagship firmware, there is no black mode for system menus, Always-On Display and dynamic desktop screensaver. Everything else is pretty familiar to the manufacturer.

Cameras

Inexpensive smartphones are increasingly equipped with dual modules, but they don’t get more. Our guest today was no exception. So, the rear camera consists of two sensors. The main resolution is 48 MP with ƒ / 1.8 aperture, and the additional 5-megapixel is used for portrait mode. It should be noted right away that this resolution of the main camera is used to collect more data for the picture, and as a result, the frame will turn out four times smaller (although in Pro mode you can still take a frame in full resolution). But in the Pro model, a competitive Sony IMX586 sensor will be installed, which can take pictures with high resolution. But today is not about him.

Such a camera can take a very good shot both during the day and at night. In the latter case, however, a slow shutter speed will be bad for moving objects. Along with this, the white balance can be missed. But for such a price, the camera can be forgiven for its weaknesses. over, the pictures are really pretty good. Following the latest innovations from the parent company, there is also an AI button here. This mode does not replay everything either, and you can safely leave it on. And the standard HDR in automatic mode is also well versed when it is worth getting involved.

The second camera is used in portrait mode to determine depth. She does not always succeed in doing it for sure, but, again, remembering the cost of a smartphone, I want to praise it more than scold it. In the pictures, not all the distance is correctly determined, but, nevertheless, the result comes out relatively acceptable.

Videos can be recorded at maximum in Full HD. There is no stabilization, and the video itself is rather weak. And if you liked individual photos, then it’s so difficult to say with video recording. Again, for its class, this is not the worst result.

The 13MP front camera also works with AI and HDR modes. It automatically tries to smooth out the picture to make the person’s face look more neat. Selfie lovers will clearly support such an initiative. At the same time, the portrait mode is also available here and works pretty well both in daylight and artificial lighting.

Given the smaller set of options for a budget employee, the camera application is not endowed with as many options as more expensive models. Although there are basic settings and modes available, which are also in the higher class. The logic of work and control here is the same as that of other smartphones of the company.

Performance level

The smartphone received a Snapdragon 660 processor with Adreno 512 graphics, the filling is excellent. Recently they talked about the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), there is exactly the same chip, but Samsung is much more expensive.

The phone comes with different memory sizes. I have the weakest version with 3/32 GB, it is better to take with 4 GB of RAM or even with 6 GB.

Throttling is not great, but you can live

I will not say anything bad about power: there is a good supply for the future, the phone is fast, the MIUI 10 shell in conjunction with Android 9 works fine, the games run without lags.

There is a slot for a memory card; it is, as usual, combined with a second tray for a SIM card. You could and could have forked out for a separate connector, but oh well.

The phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack. It is located at the top. The place, for my taste, is not the best, but it didn’t really bother me, because I use Bluetooth headphones.

Move on. Right there we have an infrared port, it’s cool. You can control the TV. everything worked fine with my old Philips.

The volume of the call is high: the phone screams at full force and the call is definitely not to be missed.

A phone with Chinese firmware came to us. This means that the smartphone does not have Google services, and there is no Russian language in the menu. But Google services appear after installing Google Installer, and the lack of Russian is a common problem for all phones from China with local firmware. Therefore, I do not advise you to hurry with the purchase: it is better to wait for the appearance of phones with global firmware. At the same time, get support for LTE Band 20, which is so necessary in Russian latitudes.

Gradient time

Last year we saw Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 without a notch. Then Xiaomi decided that we urgently needed a phone with a bang. This is how the Redmi Note 6 Pro was born. Then the Chinese exhaled, looked around, realized that competitors had switched to a neat drop-shaped neckline. Okay, so Redmi Note 7 got this. I don’t know about you, but I am glad that the Chinese have gone the “monobrow path” so quickly and stopped mindlessly copying Apple.

The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 5, like in expensive flagships. The same glass is on the back. I offer you a video where Xiaomi is used to destroy fruits. The video shows how strong this glass is, not inferior in its properties to more flexible plastic.

It is a pity that the sides are made of plastic, but, on the other hand, we have to sell more expensive phones. And so you pack a mass smartphone in aluminum, no one will look at the flagships.

Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Note 7

The back surface is very easily soiled, but beautiful, you can endlessly admire the gradient transition. Yes, the design is not original: Xiaomi took and copied Huawei, but so what? But smartly.

I would like to thank the guys at Xiaomi for saving the indicator light. It is located at the very bottom on the “chin” and blinks when new messages arrive or signals a missed call.

Review of Redmi Note 7: Xiaomi knows how to budget

Checking 48 Chinese megapixels in operation.

You can write about Redmi Note 7 in one line: it’s cool, you have to take it. But why is he so good? This will be our story today.

All sorts of representatives of the Redmi Note line have become an example of what a mid-range smartphone should be. They are cheap, the characteristics are perfect, and you just close your eyes to the shortcomings, remembering the price tag.

We say Redmi, we mean Xiaomi. Now Redmi has become a separate brand in the Xiaomi universe. This means that Redmi and Xiaomi will exist in parallel. It is impossible not to remember the tandem of Huawei and Honor with similar devices. But Xiaomi is more serious. Take Pocophone, another brand from Xiaomi, for example. Or Black Shark is a brand of gaming phones. That is, we get several series of devices that are very similar to each other.

Juicy screen

The display is edged with a fairly thin frame. Let me remind you that we are talking about an inexpensive phone, and there is no point in comparing it with the same top-end “thin-frame” Xiaomi Mi 8.

There are no special complaints about the image quality. The display is bright, the picture is colorful, but now, in principle, it is difficult to find a phone with a bad display among Chinese smartphones of the same class.

48 megapixels, Karl!

How much? 48 megapixels, guys, that’s it. over, Xiaomi is not the only one so smart: the mind is being pressed by megapixels and competitors, take the same Huawei. And this is just the beginning. I think that all 2019 Chinese brands will boast of multi-megapixel sensors.

For a start, a little bit of technical information. The phone received a new sensor Samsung GM1, where we get only 12 megapixels instead of 48 during shooting. This is software magic, when four small 0.8 µm pixels are compressed into one large 1.6 µm for a sharper image with reduced noise. Alternatively, you can switch to the 48-megapixel Pro-mode, but the quality will become noticeably worse.

over, Redmi Note 7 Pro will also be on sale. There is already another Sony IMX586 module, which should take pictures even better, but about it another time. Well, okay, what is there in practice?

We made a great comparison of cameras and praised the Xiaomi Mi 8. For the money, the camera turned out to be excellent, so Redmi Note 7 deserves the same praise. Then we will compare it with competitors, but in the meantime I can say that I liked the camera in all shooting modes.

First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by how the phone shoots in low light: there is little noise, the picture is clear. And this is taking into account the fact that there is no optical stabilization here. Google Pixel 3 tensed, joke.

Performance Redmi Note 7

I can only admire how, at a price of 150, the novelty is equipped with a sufficiently powerful 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Plus processor, which has an increased operating frequency of up to 2.2 GHz. Depending on the version, the amount of RAM will be 3, 4 or 6 GB.

According to the results of testing in AnTuTu, the smartphone is gaining about 140,000 points, in the single-core GeekBench test. 1,617 points, in the multi-core. 5,862 points. Judging by the hardware, the gadget is more likely to be a mid-range smartphones. With the vast majority of games, no problems arise, as well as with everyday use of the smartphone. But if you want more speed, for example, when browsing sites, then I recommend the Brave browser for this, which blocks various scripts, site trackers and removes intrusive ads, thereby not only increasing the level of privacy on the Internet, but also accelerating the speed of page loading.

Autonomy Redmi Note 7

Traditionally, the Redmi Note series of smartphones is equipped with a 4000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0. As expected, the gadget has high autonomy.

When playing FHD video over Wi-Fi at 70% brightness and 50% volume, the smartphone takes 60 minutes. discharged from 99% to 89%. Accordingly, the gadget is able to work in video viewing mode for about 10 hours.

In the game test in PUBG MOBILE via Wi-Fi, the smartphone was discharged in 30 minutes. by 9%. Accordingly, a full battery will be sufficient for continuous play for more than 5.5 hours.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 with a maximum power of 18W. However, the gadget comes with only 10W charging. This was probably done to reach the minimum price.

When using a standard 10 W charger, the smartphone charges from 10% to 100% in 125 minutes, when using a more powerful 18 W charger, it takes only 90 minutes to recharge from 5% to 100%.

Camera test and sample photos of Redmi Note 7

Most of the controversy was caused by the new camera, a feature of which is the ability to shoot with a resolution of 48 MP. The size of the Samsung GM1 sensor is also impressive. 1/2 “(Honor 8x has a sensor size of 1 / 2.8”), aperture of the lens f / 1.8 and a pixel size of 1.6 microns (using the technology of combining 4x pixels in 1, which in the front Redmi S2 showed itself positively).

The Samsung GM1 sensor is compared with the Sony IMX586 sensor and, accordingly, one cannot avoid comparing the smartphones that will be equipped with them first: Redmi Note 7 and Honor V20. In this comparison, do not forget to take into account the cost of new products 150 and 435.

The smartphone camera does an excellent job of creating a photo with bokeh effect, not inferior to the flagships:

Examples of daytime shooting:

Night shooting is a feature of this model (including the price). It’s all about the same Super Night Scene mode as the Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S and Mi8. Examples in the picture below:

In terms of shooting quality, Redmi Note 7 should be compared with single-tier models, such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and even Xiaomi MI8 Lite, in relation to which the hero of the review looks a cut above. In general, for its price, the quality of shooting a smartphone is excellent.

Redmi Note 7 design

The first thing you pay attention to is that there is no longer any hint of Xiaomi on the box from the novelty. Before us is the Redmi smartphone. In the upper left corner is the number 18, which tells us that this model is covered by an extended warranty of 18 months. This offer is currently being extended to China, but it is likely that the rest of the world will receive an extended warranty.

Externally, the smartphone looks nice due to the use of gradient colors (like the Xiaomi Mi8 Lite), of which there are 3 available to choose from: black, red and blue. Despite its budget, the back panel of the gadget is made of Gorilla Glass 5 (like the protective glass of the display), which is very cool.!

On the front panel there is a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2340×1080 (FHD), which occupies 81.63% of the front of the device (for Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro this figure is less and is equal to 81.36%, Xiaomi Mi8 Lite. 82.77%). The screen / body ratio is not a record one due to the relatively thick 0.8 mm bezels. At the top of the display is a drop-shaped notch for the 13 MP front camera with an aperture lens of f / 2.2.

On the back panel there are lenses of the dual main camera and LED flash, below the inscription 48 MP, but more about the camera later. The fingerprint scanner is located as usual and the owners of the same Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro will not need to get used to it.

At the bottom of the back panel there is a large logo of the Redmi brand and a little smaller “by Xiaomi” (from Xiaomi).

On the top there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an infrared port, which has become traditional for the Redmi series.

On the bottom edge there is a ringing speaker and a USB Type-C connector, for which I would like to express my special gratitude to Xiaomi, taking into account the price of 150. Hopefully in 2019 it will be possible to get rid of the Micro USB connector.

On the left side of the gadget there is a tray for SIM-cards, which, according to the bad old tradition, is combined. You have to choose either 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM card and a Micro SD memory card up to 256 GB. It is a pity that the Xiaomi Redmi S2 chip has not been applied.

On the right side there is a volume rocker and a lock / unlock button.

Review Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 4/64 GB: smartphone with the best price-quality ratio

For Xiaomi, the main competitor in the Chinese market and in the world as a whole remains Huawei, which is actively arranging the global expansion of the smartphone market. And it is not surprising that Xiaomi adopts ideas from its competitor that turned out to be successful. One of these ideas was the creation of a sub-brand of affordable gadgets. Redmi. There is no doubt that the new brand will be a success. This Redmi Note 7 review will show how impressive Xiaomi’s first budget smartphone will be.

Eventually

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (I called it Xiaomi again !?) has the best price-performance ratio at the beginning of 2019 and sets a new bar for affordable smartphones. The gadget has an attractive design, really powerful “stuffing”, an excellent display, a high-quality camera, a capacious battery, a USB Type-C connector, and is equipped with all modern means of communication.

You can only find fault with the relatively thick side frames of the display and the lack of NFC.

Design, dimensions, controls

From a design point of view, I have no complaints about the smartphone: bright body colors, interesting gradients in blue and red versions, a beautifully iridescent back cover. The smartphone does not look like a boring black bar (although there is such a color option).

But the practicality let us down: glossy plastic gets dirty easily and quickly, prints and scratches on it will also be clearly visible. You need to be prepared for this before buying. Fortunately, the smartphone comes with a silicone case, and I am sincerely glad that Xiaomi, which once considered the idea of abandoning the charger in the kit, moved on to adding additional accessories to the box.

The manufacturer has already done the boring job of listing the control elements for me, see the photo below, so let’s go straight to the design features.

I liked that the smartphone retained the headphone minijack and left the infrared port, although the model is clearly inexpensive. But the use of microUSB, not Type-C, on the contrary, is frustrating. I understand that this is necessary for a clearer division into lines, but as a user it does not make it easier for me.

The design of the dual camera has finally given up on imitation of the latest iPhones, although now it reminds me of the Huawei P20 Pro. The fingerprint scanner is on the back. In my opinion, it is located too high, I personally was uncomfortable reaching out to him with a finger.

Separate slots for two SIM-cards and microSD-cards became a pleasant trifle, by the way, the smartphone supports the latter up to 512 GB.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 158.7 x 75.6 x 8.5 mm, the weight is 180 grams. The device is weighty, but I can’t call it heavy. You know, there is such an expression “you feel a thing in your hand”, but in the case of Redmi 7 “you feel that there is 4000 mAh”. I am ready to forgive such a weight for a device with a capacious battery.

From the point of view of assembly, there are no problems, there are no creaks and backlashes.

Positioning

Redmi 7 is an entry-level model aimed primarily at young people who are not ready to pay big bucks, but want to have modern and fashionable features in a smartphone, such as a waterdrop notch, a dual camera, face unlock, a striking design and, of course, a long working hours. The manufacturer also pleased potential buyers with a separate slot for a memory card and two SIM-cards and the presence of a mini-jack for headphones. Of course, you can get all this for 10,000 rubles only with a number of nuances, in the case of Redmi 7 it is a plastic case, a microUSB port, no NFC and a low resolution.

Camera

Characteristics Value
Main camera 12 megapixels, f / 2.2, 1.25µm, PDAF 2 megapixels, depth sensor
Front-camera 8 megapixels, f / 2.0, 1.12µm

It is important to keep in mind that we have a budget solution, so we should not expect miracles from the Redmi 7 camera. Yes, the frames come out quite good during the day, and in artificial lighting everything is more or less normal, if you don’t start zooming in and don’t consider the loss of detail. Well, at night the situation is expectedly sad. The selfie camera is typical for this segment, there is a built-in beautifier. The smartphone records video in the maximum resolution FHD @ 60FPS, the shooting quality is average, in my opinion, there is not enough image clarity.

The camera interface is familiar from MIUI 10. Switching between modes is carried out using horizontal swipes, settings are available by the icon with three stripes in the upper right corner.

Software features

The smartphone runs Android 9.0 and MIUI 10. At the moment, MIUI is one of the most functional shells with many settings and the possibility of fine customization. We examined the tenth version in detail in a separate review, be sure to read it if you haven’t seen it yet:

Multimedia capabilities

There is only one external speaker, but it is quite loud and relatively high quality, does not wheeze even at maximum volume.

The sound quality in the headphones is normal, comparable to other smartphones in this segment.

Voice quality during calls is excellent, you and your interlocutor can hear each other perfectly.
