Smartphone Can't See Memory Card What To Do

How to check a memory card

A rare phone now dispenses with a memory expansion slot. Additional gigabytes will not hurt, because the built-in memory is often not enough. Especially if you are actively taking pictures and listening to music using your phone or smartphone. Music, photos,s. all this requires significant amounts of memory. And if the phone suddenly ceases to see the card, then this must be done urgently. For answers to why the phone does not see the memory card, see below.

Phone problem

To get started, try removing the memory card and reinserting it. Perhaps the contacts just left. If this does not help, then reboot the phone. it may not see the card due to a software malfunction. The problem may be due to the large volume of the card. New phones “chew” large-capacity cards without problems, but if you do not have the latest model, you may not “swallow” them.

If simple manipulations with the phone did not help, then you need to check the memory card. This is done using a computer and a card reader. We connect the card reader to the computer and insert the card. If the computer cuts through it, then this is good news. Next, you need to check the card for errors. maybe something is wrong with the file system of the card.

For Windows, the sequence is this. In the “My Computer” section, find the memory card (look in the list of drives). We click on the icon with the right mouse button and select “Properties” from the menu. A window opens in which there is a tab “Service”. We are looking for “Checking the disk for errors”, click on the button corresponding to the memory card, right-click on it to open the context menu and select “Properties”. In the properties window that opens, go to the Tools tab. In the “Check disk for errors” section, click the “Check Now” button. We put a tick in front of the option “Scan and repair bad sectors” and run the scan.

After completing the check, insert the card into the phone. If this does not help, then it is worth taking drastic measures. Right-click on the icon and select “Formatting” in the menu.

Types of microSD cards

It is possible that this type of memory card just does not fit your mobile phone. This can happen if you bought a new card. Today there are several types of external storage media for mobile devices: SD, miniSD and microSD.

Mobile phones use microSD, as it is the smallest version of the SD format. In turn, these cards are divided into four generations:

  • SD 1.0, the amount of memory from 8 MB to 2 GB;
  • SD 1.1 memory capacity up to 4 GB;
  • SDHC memory capacity up to 32 GB;
  • SDXC memory capacity up to 2 TB.

Now the important point. In the case of SD cards, there is backward compatibility. In other words, phones that are capable of working with SDXC understand older generations of SD cards. But if you have a relatively old phone, then it will not accept newer cards. At the same time, the form factor, that is, the sizes, are the same for all generations of microSD cards.

Therefore, before buying a card, it is worth checking with the seller if it will suit this phone.

Formatting a memory card

Before formatting the card, discard all data from it to the hard drive. Otherwise, you will lose them. The procedure itself is not much different from formatting a regular disk. Right-click on the icon, select “Formatting” and start the process.

After it completes, copy the data back. We insert the card into the phone. If formatting did not help, then maybe the problem is in the phone and then it’s worth visiting the service center.
