Naturally, many users immediately had questions.

An acquaintance of mine wanted to boot a Samsung laptop from a bootable USB flash drive containing Acronis backup software in order to backup Windows 8, but he did not succeed.

Another decided to reinstall Windows 8 on Windows 7 and also got stuck at the very beginning, he simply did not find his USB flash drive anywhere, neither in the BIOS, nor in the laptop’s boot menu. After he tried five flash drives, he flew to me with bulging eyes and said that his new laptop could not be loaded either from a disk or from a flash drive.

and press “Enter”. Again, a warning appears about the possibility of loading the laptop with an error, “Enter”.

How to configure BIOS on Samsung NP 350 V 5 C to install Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10

We need to enter the BIOS, for this we turn off the laptop (we wait until all the lights go out and the cooler stops spinning).

Turn on the laptop and without waiting for the Samsung logo to appear, press the “F 2” key. Until the same image appears as in the photo.

You have entered the BIOS. this is good, but to boot from a USB flash drive, you need to configure it. Go to the “BOOT” tab. Switch the “Secure Boot” option from “Enabled” to “Disabled”. Thus, we will allow the laptop to see and read information from all connected devices.

P. S.: When you confirm the switch, a warning window will appear, which will warn you that in the future Windows may not start. We confirm.

We save all BIOS settings using the “F 10” key.

And so, the basic settings have been made, but if your laptop does not see the USB flash drive or installation disk, then you will need to re-enter the BIOS and reconfigure one option, or try inserting the USB flash drive into USB 2.0 (on the right side of the laptop).

We decided to reconfigure the option for installing Windows from USB 3.0, then go to the “Advanced” tab and translate the “Fast BIOS Mode” option from “Enabled” to “Disabled”. We save the settings.

Laptop restarts and Windows Installer boots from USB 3.0.

How else can you boot from a USB flash drive on a laptop?

Using a computer BIOS is not the only option. For example, it is possible to boot from a USB flash drive on a laptop asus, toshiba, Samsung, etc. and through a special boot menu. It is called the Boot Menu (by the way, it is also part of the BIOS). You can enter it during the initial download phase. You just need to press Esc, F8, F11 or F12 quite often. Which key exactly depends on the motherboard developer and the BIOS version used in it.

Once in the Boot Menu, you need to select and install the boot from the USB flash drive using the arrows on the keyboard. Then all you have to do is press Enter. Agree, it’s quite convenient and simple. However, it is not always possible to enter the boot menu. The fact is that on some laptop models the Boot Menu option is deactivated in the BIOS. Therefore, additional steps are required to enable it.

There is one more thing worth paying attention to. The Boot Menu does not have any unified design. It can also be called differently: “MultiBoot Menu”, “BBS Popup”, “Boot Agent”, etc. However, in any boot menu there is a list of devices from which boot can be performed.

How to boot a Samsung laptop from a USB stick

Today we will look at an interesting case with a Samsung NP 300 laptop when reinstalling Windows from a flash drive.

We turn on the laptop and go into the BIOS by pressing the F2 key. In the menu we check that all parameters are set correctly.

In the “Advanced” tab, the “Disabled” parameter is set for the “USB S3 Wake-up” item.

In the “Boot” tab, for the “UEFI Boot Support” item, the “Disabled” parameter is also set.

And in “Boot Device Priority” our flash drive is in the first place.

That is, all settings are in order. We exit with saving on the “Exit” tab (“Exit Saving Changes), and the laptop reboots. In theory, the boot from the flash drive should start, but before Windows was removed from the C: drive, the laptop loaded it.

Now it hangs when loading and displays the following window:

The window says that the computer did not find any operating systems on the laptop and prompts you to install a Windows disk.

This means that the laptop is trying to boot from the hard drive, although the flash drive is connected and you can see that it is being read and power is supplied to it (the light on the flash drive is on).

When trying to install from disk, everything goes well.

Let’s do a factory reset. To do this, turn on the laptop and press F2. Go to the “Exit” tab and select the “Load Setup Defaults” item, Enter twice and exit with saving the changes.

When restarting, the laptop freezes again. Turn it off and on again, go back to the BIOS (F2 key) and if we go to “Boot Device Priority” on the “Boot” tab, we will see that the laptop does not see our flash drive.

We reboot, but nothing has changed. Therefore, go to the “Advanced” tab and change the “Fast BIOS Mode” value to “Disabled”. We leave with saving.

Reboot again, go to “Boot Device Priority” and see that our flash drive has appeared. Press F6 to raise it to the first place. We make an exit with saving.

Again a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner and after 5 seconds the laptop will turn off.

There was an attempt to boot Windows from a special flash drive in UEFI mode. And everything went well, but after selecting the item, the installation of Windows everything hung again.

Therefore, we proceeded to install from disk. To do this, in the “Boot Device Priority” we put our DVD drive in the first place.

We exit with saving, a reboot occurs and a successful Windows boot from the disk begins. Follow the instructions and install the operating system.

The problem when booting from a flash drive is most likely due to a BIOS problem. Perhaps re-flashing it will help.

Many novice users ask themselves the question “How to configure the BIOS for installing Windows?”. In this guide, we will analyze this issue using the example of a Samsung NP 350 V 5 C laptop and tell you “how to configure the BIOS to install Windows 7”.

First of all, you need to write the Windows image to a USB flash drive. We told how to do this here.

And so, let’s move on to the BIOS setup itself.

Booting from a USB flash drive to BIOS: step-by-step instructions

So, to put a boot from a USB flash drive in the BIOS on a laptop, you need:

  • Initially, we connect the USB drive to the device. That is, we insert it into the USB connector.
  • We reboot the laptop. When enabled, press the Delete or F2 key. Depends on manufacturer, BIOS version and model. Sometimes you even need to press Esc, F1, Tab.
  • Disable Secure Boot Protocol. This is special protection. It is also available in the UEFI BIOS, the most common version preferred by many modern laptop manufacturers. To disable it, select the Security section. Here we are looking for the Secure Boot line, in which we set the value Disabled (disabled). If this is not done, then the corresponding protocol will not allow you to boot your laptop from the USB flash drive. Priority will remain with the Windows installation disc.
  • We go to the Boot tab. Select the item Hard Drive BBS Priorities. We move our flash card to the first place in the list of boot devices (the hard disk automatically moves to the second). We also disable the “fast boot” option: in the Fast Boot line, select the Disabled value. If you see the Launch CSM item, then you need to translate it to Enable. In addition, quite often on a Samsung laptop, there is an extra in this window. OS Mode Selection. It must be set to “CMS OS” or “UEFI and Legacy OS”.
  • Now press F10 on the keyboard. Thus, we save all the changes made.
  • If everything is done correctly, the laptop will start loading from the USB flash drive.

HOW TO BOOT SAMSUNG LAPTOP FROM USB PEN DRIVE 2020

Do not forget that in BIOS we can navigate through sections, tabs and lines only by using the buttons on the keyboard. The mouse won’t help you.

However, the BIOS versions are different for all manufacturers and laptop models. Therefore, the above procedure is not suitable for all devices. For example, if you go into BIOS and see a similar interface, then you have Award BIOS.

Then it’s best to start a bootable USB flash drive like this:

  • Go to the “Integrated Peripherals” section.
  • Approximately in the middle of the screen, we find the item “USB Controller” with the arrows on the keyboard.
  • We press Enter. In the window, select the value “Enable”.
  • Please note that the line “USB Controller 2.0” also has “Enable”.
  • Press Esc. We leave this section. Then we go to Advanced BIOS Features. The name translates as additional or advanced settings. Here we need the item “Hard Disk Boot Priority”.
  • We go in and see what is in the 1st place. There must be a flash drive, not a hard drive. Therefore, we select the USB-card and use the “” button to lift it up.
  • Press Esc. Select the line “First Boot Device” and set the value to “USB-HDD” (or USB-FDD, if the first option fails to boot from a USB flash drive into BIOS on a laptop).
  • Click Esc again. Select “Save Exit Setup”, then press the Y key.

There are also other versions of the BIOS. These are both Phoenix-Award BIOS and AMI BIOS. True, they are all found only on old laptops with not the most recent motherboards. How to configure booting from a USB flash drive for such devices? All the same. Only the names of the sections and BIOS menu items differ. The algorithm of actions and settings is as similar as possible.

For reference! As we have already noted, in order to install a boot from a USB flash drive in the BIOS, you need to disable the Secure Boot protocol. That being said, on many lenovo laptops, this is not enough. You may also need to enable compatibility mode. It is called differently. Therefore, look for CSM / CSM Boot, UEFI and Legacy OS, Legacy BIOS, Legacy Support, etc.

How to boot a laptop from a USB flash drive via UEFI?

Many modern computing devices (especially those with the latest versions of Windows) come with a new bootstrap interface. It is called UEFI. Working with this “variant” of BIOS is a little easier. Plus, you can use the mouse here. However, despite the fact that the new interface is more understandable, not all users know how to work with it. Therefore, we will briefly describe the entire procedure.

For example, to boot from a USB flash drive on an HP laptop to UEFI, you need to:

  • When booting the device, press the ESC key several times. Then F10 to get into BIOS Setup.
  • Now, at the very bottom of the window, find the Boot Priority section.
  • Just drag the USB flash drive icon to the first place.
  • Another option is to click on “Exit / Advanced mode”, then confirm the transition to the advanced mode by selecting the Advanced Mode item. Next, configure.

However, there are also quite a few UEFI versions. There are also Russified versions. As a rule, it is even easier to set the boot from a USB flash drive here:

  • First you need to go to the “Download” section. Sometimes it is made in the form of a subsection. Then you should look for it in additional settings.
  • Just select the “Disc loading order”.
  • Prioritize the download to put the USB flash drive first.
  • Press F10. Save changes, restart laptop.

We will also talk about how to boot from a USB flash drive on devices with Gigabyte motherboards (they are preferred by many popular manufacturers. Acer, Lenovo, Samsung, etc.), on which UEFI BIOS is quite common.

  • We go into the BIOS. You already know how to do this. The easiest way is to press “Delete”, “F2” or “Esc” at the initial stage of loading.
  • Next, “visit” the “BIOS Features” tab.
  • At the very bottom of the window, click on “Hard Drive BBS Priorities”.
  • In the line “Boot Option 1″ you need to put our USB flash drive instead of the hard drive. Therefore, in “Boot Option 2” a hard disk should appear. HDD.
  • Save and exit.

How to set up a workstation for Samsung DeX

Once you have the correct adapter or cable, follow these steps to connect your Galaxy smartphone to your monitor and start using DeX:

If you are using a DeX cable, plug it into the HDMI port of the monitor, those using an HDMI or multiport adapter can simply plug a standard HDMI cable from the monitor to the adapter.

Connect your smartphone to the adapter via the USB-C port of your phone. You should see the Samsung DeX logo on your monitor when it boots up quickly.

Connect a keyboard and mouse or pair. If you are using a DeX cable or HDMI adapter, you will need to pair your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and search for peripheral devices; then follow the manufacturer’s instructions (which often involve pressing the Bluetooth button so the keyboard or mouse is “visible” to your phone). If you have a multiport adapter, you have USB 3.0 connectivity. You can also use your phone as a touchpad instead of connecting a mouse; more on this below.

If you are using a multiport adapter, you can also connect the phone charging cable to the adapter’s USB-C port, and the Ethernet cable. to the Internet connector. Those using a DeX cable or HDMI adapter can keep their phone charged by placing it in the wireless charger while using DeX.

What displays work with DeX?

Wired DeX can work on almost any monitor or TV with an HDMI port, however supported resolutions and aspect ratios differ depending on the mobile device and adapter used. Once connected to your monitor or TV, open Settings and go to the DeX menu. There you will see the screen resolution supported by your setting. You may also need to change the settings on your monitor or TV so that content does not overlap the edges of the screen, as noted in the Getting Started Tips section above.

For Wireless DeX, most Smart TVs with Miracast will work, but Samsung Smart TVs released since 2019 provide the best experience.
