Big idea for a small computer table

I want to make my modest contribution to the topic of DIY computer tables. For the last year, I have actively monitored the market in search of my requirements suitable for my requirements. and did not find. There is only one way out. make your own. Next, the story about my dream computer table. But before going to the main thing, I’ll tell you what I needed so special from the table, which I could not find anywhere. I like to break off the computer, play toys. A powerful computer. a lot of space. But in a small apartment where I live, it is difficult to find a place where I wouldn’t interfere with anyone or someone didn’t interfere with me, so I would like to be able to move the table with the computer as part of the apartment. I have rejected gaming laptops for a long time, as it is expensive, much less productive, deprives the pleasure of delving into the computer.

So the first mandatory requirement for the table was born. mobility.

All searches in this section lead mainly to the same result: the table is small, uncomfortable, ugly.

Thus several more requirements appeared: it should be at least 80 cm in width, t.e. Convenient, with the ability to stretch your legs (without any shelves and other nonsense there) and a rather nice.

In principle, already at this stage, I realized that my requirements are almost mutually exclusive. either beautiful, convenient and unmbitious, or mobile, small and uncomfortable.

I found a temporary compromise in the table DL-083 bureaucrat. The design is so.so, but this is the best that I managed to find, given the requirements. Instead of standard legs, wheels are easily screwed up, and the table with its dimensions gains the opportunity to move. Here are a few photos with different use scenarios:

UPS had to be put on the table at the monitor, which is not very good, since he filled on the floor a couple of times, but you can move without even turning off the computer, a kind of close-overgrown. There were also constructive shortcomings: the metal frame did not allow the monitor away from itself, and 27 inches generally barely climbed. Plus I had to modernize a little to crawl into a 60-centimeter door.

Very quickly, I realized that the flimsy design of the table is not particularly adapted to movements: the computer itself is about 40 kg, plus some small things on the upper shelves gives the table such a parrhus that it becomes terrible to move it. After a little more time, it was found that the location of the wheels is also difficult to endure all this and bend in different directions under the weight of my idea. However, for more than six months he successfully served me in the script of the apartment nomad and did not fall apart.

So I slowly approached the idea that what I need, I can do only myself. He climbed on DIY forums, Habrahabra, looked what people are doing for their computers, whether my anxiety and dreams share. I saw many tables of good and different (not for me to evaluate them) and realized that I would have to invent a bicycle from the very beginning. There were, however, very interesting tables, but all the wrong. The favorite, of course, is the article by Boomburum’s office. a very cool solution, but, having weighed its capabilities and requirements, I decided that this is also not my option, and finally formulated everything that I need from the computer’s computer table:

• mobile;
• comfortable;
• nothing superfluous (no additional. shelves and levels);
• The retractable shelf under the keyboard should be at least 84 cm so that a large keyboard with an additional block and a large convenient mouse mat can comfortably fit on it; a height that allows you to accommodate Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard;
• not a woody stove (crumbled during movements);
• a minimum of metal (a massive durable design will look ugly, and I already had an example of a considerable design);
• with an interesting design fit into the home interior;
• with the ability to accommodate the Full Tower system unit up to 600 mm in height (so that after the next upgrade you do not have to make a new table);
• depth is about 60 cm (the optimal size for convenience and so as not to get stuck in my kitchen door);

That’s perhaps all. I love to work with a tree, so speaking in simple language. I decided to confuse. I did not want to start such a project without prior preparation, so I began to study which programs exist to design furniture. Searches for the same DIY forums led me to the Google Sketchup program. A very simple program in mastering and after several lessons gives a feeling of omnipotence. Searching for inspiration on various design and professional sites, I drew this:

I admired him for a long time, showed relatives and friends, finished off the trifles, and finalized the structure. Quite a lot of time has passed before I decided to go directly to the implementation of the idea. Despite my desire to make a table with my own hands, I, having weighed everything “for” and “against”, thought that I would not want to turn my dreams of my dreams with my own hands (there were a lot of exact sizes with which I could not miss), so it was decided Seek help and give an outsour to your friends who are engaged in the production of furniture. The model with the upper shelves is like a classic. But he has shelves built over the work surface. This option is very convenient for small rooms, or for installation in the gaming area of ​​a common room or next to the kitchen table.

DIY table manufacturing instructions

After creating drawings and cutting parts, you can proceed directly to the assembly of furniture. It is previously important to prepare all small components, such as furniture corners and guides for a retractable surface under the keyboard and the necessary tools.

He had a corner from which he wanted to make himself a compact, game setup.

Inside, I9 9900K was installed on the MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard.

To cool the processor, Thermaltake Floe Riing RGB 360 TT is used.

In AIDA 64, I received 73-78 degrees, with the quietest mode of work of coolers.

Glass countertop during a peak load on the system “Heated” to 27 degrees.

Noise at peak load (I simultaneously turned on AIDA64 and Furmark) was 35-38 dB. Distance 40 cm from the table.

And I decided to make a completely original, exclusive computer table for myself, with dimensions that will be convenient for me personally. We start assembling the table.

We cut out our cutouts along the contour with an electrician. Then, using fine sandpaper, we clean the edges from burrs. Make sure there are no large cracks and chips. Small trick: so that when cutting the edge is not too “torn” with a jigsaw. glue the edge of the tape along the edge, so you protect the edges of the countertop.

We take the border adhesive tape and glue them onto the ends of the countertop, using an iron. After the tape is glued, the excess parts are very neatly cut off with a sharp clerical knife.If desired (as I did), you can cover a stain in several layers and wood varnish. There is an alternative. you can use ready.made varnish with a wood tint. Use varnish necessarily in a well.ventilated room, and preferably outdoors.
