iPhone XR and XS differences. Comparison iPhone x, iPhone XS and iPhone XR

iPhone X vs iPhone XS vs iPhone XR: a review-comparison iPhone

Even though the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR were released back in 2018, there are still enough questions like “is it worth buying a new iPhone?”. In today’s article we would like to take apart the three latest and, most importantly, dramatically different from previous Apple iPhone models. We’ll tell you not only what they have and what they can do (yes, you may have read that somewhere already), but also whether it’s worth upgrading from your “old” iPhone 7, 8, or even 10 to them!

In terms of the design and physical characteristics of the case, the iPhone XR is undoubtedly on a high level, but still inferior to the iPhone XS. First, it features a 7000-series aluminum alloy frame, while the XS’s frame is made of a more durable stainless steel alloy. XR corresponds to the index of protection degree of quality IP67, and XS. IP68. This, in turn, means that the first smartphone can withstand a half-hour dive to a depth of one meter, and the second. the same immersion, but to a depth of two meters. The iPhone XR is larger and heavier in size, and the display bezel is wider. As a significant advantage in favor of the XR, it is worth noting a wider choice of colors: Blue, White, Black, Yellow, Coral and RED (Product).

A screen that gets good marks

The OLED display on the iPhone XS has set a new standard in the smartphone display industry, setting the bar very high. This has led many users to be reluctant to look at the iPhone XR with its LCD screen. A cheaper screen for a cheaper iPhone with a resolution of 1,792 × 828 pixels and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. At this point, a 6.1-inch iPhone with a screen that isn’t even FullHD. However, the first tests of those who have disassembled the device say that the screen is very good., which is certainly not the best on the market, but not “cheap” at all. The pixel density is the same as that of the iPhone 8, so there should be no doubt about the quality.

It’s true that the quality of the screen, aside from the resolution, is not the same as the iPhone 8, as brightness and color changes when viewed from different angles are more pronounced than in the iPhone 8. However, this should not be a problem, and the fact that many people worry about noticing pixels because of their “low density” is absurd. Some reviews even talk about Apple has done a tremendous amount of engineering to get an LCD screen with a notch without the hideous bottom “chin” of Android devices. As well as with rounded corners. The frame is slightly thicker, but you’ll only notice that if you put it next to the iPhone XS.

Comparison of iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR

Apple constantly pleases its customers with various innovations, among which iPhone takes one of the key places. Certainly, the new iPhone XS, iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max models have become popular compared to the previous iPhone X. And while they initially seem almost identical, there are still differences from the iPhone 10. A careful comparison of the phones’ sizes, cameras, screens and other features reveals this small difference. To visualize the difference between one smartphone and another will help you to compare phone models in the table below.

iPhone XS vs iPhone XR camera comparisons

Let’s first discuss the identical camera features of both smartphones. The iPhone XR and iPhone XS have a 7-megapixel TrueDepth front camera. As for the main, the smartphones have Smart HDR and Depth Control. Developers have significantly improved the portrait mode: on both smartphones you can adjust the level of background blur.

The main difference is the fact that the main camera of iPhone XS consists of two modules and has six options for portrait lighting. The capabilities of the iPhone XR are a little more modest. one wide-angle camera, conventional optical and digital zoom, lighting in three options.

Be that as it may, but thanks to high-sensitivity sensors on both smartphones will turn out very high-quality photos. Whether you need to overpay for extra options. you decide.

Colors of iPhone XS and iPhone XR

The iPhone XS is available in gold, space gray and silver.

In the iPhone XR Apple has repeated the (not the best) experience of the iPhone 5c with a large number of multi-colored shades, so that the novelty will be sold in six colors. white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red (PRODUCT)RED.

Impressions of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 5G tablet. Great gadget, but why do we need it in 2022??

The screen resolution of all new models is crappy, for better or worse

The price of the XR is in no way budget. Why did they skimp on the screen?? Budget option here iPhone 7. And it’s price-performance-wise the best.

@lexx_ylt2. well that’s kind of the main thing they have. Otherwise there would be almost no difference in price)

I don’t buy any. And it’s not because I do not want money. Just calling. I hate it. And as a device for pleasure I use iPad Pro.

The iPhone XR has a thicker frame around the screen. 5.88 mm on each side. The iPhone XS has 4.25 mm, t.е. less by 1.55 mm. This makes the iPhone XR look a bit peculiar. No one else has such thick side bezels.

But the iPhone XR has a non-flickering IPS screen. And the iPhone XS, like its predecessor has an AMOLED screen from Samsung. Which flickers at low brightness. Personally I have this flicker causes visual stress and headaches, so now I avoid buying smartphones with OLED/AMOLED matrices. Only on the IPS.

@Alexid. And how are the frames on the iPhone 6,7,8?

@Alexid. what to look above? You did not write about 6, 7, 8. And the link to the source that measured these frames, too, would be added.

@hexegg. I have both iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 at home. I personally measured with a ruler. The width of the frames is easy to measure knowing the ppi of the screen, the pixel resolution and the width of the smartphone. All the data is on Apple’s website. For example iPhone 7 has 326 ppi t.е. 326 pixels at 25.4 mm for a width of 67.1 mm and a resolution of 750 pixels in width we get 2.30 inches. a total screen width of 58.42 mm. Subtract 58.42mm of 67.1 mm of the body width and you get 8.68 mm. Divide by 2 (two sides) and the result is 4.34 mm is the thickness of the frame on the left or right. A ruler check of my iPhone 7 confirms the theoretical calculations.

@Alexid. go to the doctor.I have an X and don’t feel the flicker.Although sensitive to this case, when I ran from the controllers in the train, got into the car with the flashing lights and almost lost consciousness.

@Andrey34. and what the doctor will do? I have a flickering AMOLEd provokes migraine attacks and just headaches. Similarly, I can not stand the flicker of old LCD monitors where they still use a flickering scheme. They have been making new monitors without flicker for a long time now. Flicker is easy to see (if you don’t know what it is). Set the brightness of the screen to low (for example when you watch the screen in the evening in a dimly lit room). wave the pen in front of the screen. you’ll see a clear phases (“fan”) is an indicator of flicker. If there is no flicker, the waving of the knob merges into an indistinguishable band. Also flicker can be seen from side vision, as well as when you quickly switch your gaze to the screen and sideways. My eyes are so sensitive that I can see AMOLED ripple even just when I look at the screen. Looking at the AMOLED all the time feeling that the image is moving (pulsating), on the IPS no such effect.

@Alexid. I had this problem when I bought a Samsung Note (3 or something). We had to urgently change to an iPhone with IPS. With the Samsung Galaxy S8 this problem is not particularly observed, although the IPS screen is still more comfortable to look at.

The display

Here the difference will be tangible. The XS uses a 5.8-inch OLED display with a high resolution of 2436×1125 pixels, while the XR has an IPS display with a resolution of 1792×828 pixels. It is clear that the former has a much higher pixel density per inch: 458 versus 326.

It is believed that the XS uses a much better display, but XR owners claim that there is virtually no difference with the screen in the XR. In any case, XR uses an excellent matrix.

What is the difference between iPhone XS and XR

The main difference between the iPhone XS and XR. smartphones belong to different classes. Apple does not officially divide its communicators into budget, middle class and high-end modifications. But in this case, the XS can be attributed conditionally to the flagship, the XR. to the middle segment, a more budget version, if you can say so about the iPhone.

Exterior features. In almost everything when comparing the iPhone XS and XR, the advantage remains with the XS, but not absolutely. First of all the difference in the case: XS has a frame of polished steel (stylish, cool), XR. brushed aluminum (scratch-resistant). The main material. tempered glass in both smartphones. Moisture protection XS is higher, the standard IP68 (the XR. IP67), which increases the depth of immersion, but you should not swim with either of them. Significant bonus of the XR. a larger choice of colors. Bright, juicy, saturated colors of the body will help to make the world around a brighter. agree, it is something to think about!

Features of the screen. one of the main indicators to consider when deciding which iPhone is better than XS or XR. XS has the advantage of Super Retina HD technology which provides a higher quality, clearer picture. The XR, on the other hand. larger diagonal 6.1ʺ (5.8ʺ in the XS), but lower resolution and number of pixels per inch, lack of 3D Touch technology, familiar to most users.

Options. We highly recommend holding each smartphone in your hands before buying. It will give you the opportunity to compare the iPhone Xs and XRs, to understand how it fits in your palm, what tactile sensations it evokes. You can visually compare the frames based on your own experience, not conventional wisdom. some people find the XR’s thicker frame and bangs annoying, while others don’t.

Cameras. Front cameras are absolutely identical. The main camera XS. dual, uses double optical zoom, six options for portrait lighting. XR. only one wide-angle camera, conventional optical and digital zoom, lighting in three options. The possibility of post-editing photos using artificial intelligence is provided in both models, you get great photos. Naturally, the differences are significant, but whether it’s worth overpaying for it is up to you to decide.

Technical stuffing. The most significant difference between the iPhone XS and the XR is precisely in the appearance and quality of the display module. But many of the features are virtually the same. Both devices have the A12 series processor, hence the performance is identical. XS assumes larger variants of preinstalled memory. up to 512 GB. The battery life of the XR is slightly better, but not critical.

The results of the comparison are fairly obvious, but you can draw different conclusions. It depends on your preferences and capabilities. Remember that the iPhone XS is much more expensive than its budget counterpart. The difference of 15-20 thousand is quite significant, but the features are different. It is definitely up to you to decide what to choose.
