How to set a ringtone on a smartphone with a clean Android 8.1.0

To begin, let us show you what you need to do in order to set the ringtone on your smartphone with pure Android, ie on smartphones without third-party shells from the manufacturer. An example of such a smartphone are the devices from Google Nexus and Google Pixel line. In our case it will be Google Nexus 5X with Android 8.1.0.

First, you need to open the Android settings. This can be done in several ways. For example, you can use the icon on the desktop or find the Settings app in the list of all apps. But the easiest way is to open the upper curtain and click on the settings button.

After opening the settings, you need to go to the “Sound” section.

As a result a page with the sound settings will open in front of you. Here you can adjust the ringtone volume, alarm clock volume and other parameters relating to sound playback. Among others there is a section “Ringtone”, open it to put a melody to your ringtone.

After that a list of standard ringtones will appear in front of you and you can put one of them. But if none of the standard melodies suits you, you can add your own melody. To do this you will need to click on the link “Add ringtone” which is at the very bottom of the list.

After that, a file manager will appear, with which you can select a melody. By default, the file manager opens in the “Recent” tab. In order to go to other file sources, click on the button in the upper left corner.

After pressing this button, you will see a menu where you can select the source from which you want to select a melody. If the melody you want is stored in the memory of your device, click on the name of your smartphone. Also with the help of this file manager you can select a melody, which is stored in cloud storage, in the “Download” folder or in other places.

After you select a melody in the file manager you will return to the list of available ringtones.

Now in order to put a melody to your ringtone, you only need to select the added song and click on “OK” to save the settings.

Once again, note that the above instruction applies to smartphones with pure Android, without any third-party shells. If you have a smartphone with a non-standard shell, the process of setting a ringtone may be different. But even in this case the differences will not be significant and using the information from this article you will be able to understand.
