Incognito mode on your Samsung phone

Private default browsers

With more and more privacy scandals every day, private default apps are becoming quite popular. This also applies to mobile browsers. Although the list is growing, these are the two we currently recommend the most.

DuckDuckGo privacy browser

This mobile browser from the creators of the privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo is the company’s first and only app. As expected, it uses their search engine, but the mobile browser also forces websites to use encryption similar to the desktop browser add-on HTTPS Everywhere.

DuckDuckGo also claims that it is “decrying privacy policies.” “We have partnered with Terms of Service that have not been read to include their scores and labels of website terms of service and privacy policies, if available.”. This means that when you browse or search the web, you’ll see a privacy rating on most websites, from A to F. The privacy browser also helps you avoid aggressive ad cookies and tracking. One of its best features is the Fire button, which clears all tabs and data with a single press.

In terms of functionality and design, the DuckDuckGo privacy browser is pretty standard and similar to Firefox and Chrome. We don’t have much to complain about yet.

InBrowser

InBrowser takes privacy one step further. Probably one of the best options for those who are serious about their online privacy and security. The browser is in permanent incognito mode, which means that all history, cookies, and logins are deleted when you click “Exit,” “Home,” or “Close”. InBrowser also provides support for TOR via Orbot and offers the option to use VPN services.

The design of the app is rather minimalistic, but this is due to the creators’ desire to remove all annoying and unnecessary ads for a more pleasant interaction. After a few quick tests, we found it to be just as functional as the Chrome or Firefox browsers for Android, although its support for browser add-ons is more limited.

Firefox Focus

Of course, speaking of privacy, we couldn’t forget to include Firefox Focus (also known as Firefox Klar in some countries). Aptly named the Privacy Browser, it provides many features for those who want to keep their online activity to themselves.

Firefox Focus blocks a wide range of common web trackers, as well as ads, to provide privacy, but also fast browsing. You can delete your history at any time from the notification panel. Cookies and passwords will not be saved. In our short test, the browser was even a better version of the already excellent Firefox thanks to its minimalist and easy-to-use interface.

What Incognito mode is and why you need it

As mentioned earlier, most browsers have this mode in stock. Modern search portals allow the user to hide their information, their history, their queries, as well as those sites that the user has previously visited.

After all, usually any search portal or browser works in the way that the user, when entering a particular site pages, automatically saves information about their actions on the network, including search queries, sites, and clicks on certain links. And the history of visits more often become public, that is, each user can take and see who used this or that device entered into the “History” section.

The easiest and easiest option to preserve anonymity while surfing the Internet is to activate “Incognito” mode. If a user activates this mode, other visitors to the site will automatically no longer have access to their mobile devices, browsing tabs, and more.

If we look at the practical purpose of this mode, it is also extensive:

  • The user can make a purchase of the product. For example, if the user wants to make an unexpected gift for any occasion, the selected algorithms in the system will make it so that the next day in the block “Advertising” he will get exactly what he was looking for earlier. In enabled incognito mode, this incident will not happen;
  • If we consider the question of protection, it immediately becomes higher. That is, automatic protection of personal data appears. Attackers can steal passwords from user accounts or, for example, bank card numbers. It is worth entering the secret information in the activated mode;
  • No thematic advertising, that is, banners that “shout” about the interests that are relevant to the user. It’s worth taking the same case with a gift. The website will automatically appear in ads;
  • If multiple profiles need to be activated at once, the user can also use incognito mode. You can open one account in a simple browser and others in private mode;
  • You can use the developers during the laying of programs. Cache and cookies are not saved in private mode, which is very convenient during the creation of applications and their testing.

What to do if there is no “Incognito tab” button in the browser

Perhaps the browser for your smartphone will not have such a menu item. This may be due to an outdated version of the program. You can set up the feature yourself if you want. For example, you need to prevent other users of this device to see which sites you have visited.

  • Press the three dots again in the search bar of the Yandex Browser for mobile devices; Press the menu button in the search bar
  • Select the “Settings” button in the menu; Select the “Settings” button
  • Find the “Save History” line among the settings items and click on it to turn off the function; Click Save History
  • If you need your browser to not remember the data you enter into forms on websites, click on “Autofill Forms”. And also click on “Clear data”. Click “Autofill Forms”

You do not need to confirm the settings, the settings you have configured in the browser are automatically saved.

The security level of private tabs

The point is that this mode, although it does not record the sites visited by the user, but this information can be easily tracked by the IP-address of the device. Hence, the entire browsing history can be tracked by the Internet provider, the owner of the wireless access point or, for example, the administrator of the local network at the workplace.

Another peculiarity is that if you sign in with your Google account, or. you will see all of your stats without exception.

What does incognito mode mean on Android?

This mode is an option that allows a person to secretly access various resources, watch videos, make Комментарии и мнения владельцев, etc. This option is especially useful if you use someone else’s computer or someone else’s network. In this case, the owner of the computer will not know what sites or pages you have visited, or what passwords you have entered.

But you will not get complete secrecy. The fact that you have visited a certain resource, can learn your provider, and webmaster, which owns the resource that you have time to visit. But that’s usually enough for normal activities.

Incognito mode in Google Chrome

Your incognito activity will not be available to other users on the same device. But your bookmarks, downloads, and items from the reading list will stay hidden.

Chrome will not save the following information:

Note that in Chrome your actions will be visible:

You also have the ability to block third-party cookies.

For the computer

To turn on the incognito window in Google Chrome, you can use two ways. You can press CtrlShiftN or click on the menu icon and select New Incognito Window.

On phones and tablets

On your mobile device, to open an anonymous incognito tab, you should tap the menu icon and tap on New Incognito Tab or New Incognito Tab, depending on the language of your Google Chrome browser.

What functions disable Incognito mode

The “Incognito” function, also known as private browsing, allows the user to preserve the anonymity of their actions on the network. But before you activate this option, you should pay attention to the fact that in the “Incognito” mode there are certain restrictions on the use of Yandex services.

Features Features
The data synchronization function in the browser is blocked Opened tabs in anonymous mode will not be saved on other devices synchronized with this device
Browser widgets on tabs opened privately do not work There are also no verticals that perform similar actions: quick links to games, images (photos), videos are saved.
Wi-Fi Protect does not apply when connecting to hotspots in public places All data (personal information, correspondence) will be transmitted via unsecured route and anyone can access it
No offer of publications in Yandex.Zen Since the user’s interests are hidden from outsiders, the browser algorithm will not know about them and therefore will not be able to pick up relevant content

When setting the stealth mode, keep in mind that it is good for those who seek to hide history from other users sharing the same device. It is important to understand that it does not guarantee complete anonymity on the Web.

All the data able to indicate a person’s location (IP-address, DNS-server, etc.).) are easily detected by most sites. You can check the reliability of data privacy by using the whoer service.net. A good result is considered to be 70% or higher. It can be extremely difficult to disclose information about a person in this case.

Incognito mode has recently become more and more popular. This is due to the fact that the user has the ability to remain anonymous while in the global network. But each feature has its pros and cons. This one is also no exception.

Privacy of personal data. Information such as full name, year and date of birth, address, location, passport data are available only to the owner

Saving downloaded files and created bookmarks

The ability to work with multiple accounts on social networks at the same time

No targeting ads on websites

Cache and cookies are not saved in the memory of the mobile device

There is a high probability of losing the addresses of important sites because the history of visits is not saved

You cannot hide yourself completely in the global network. All information remains available for viewing by the Internet provider and system administrator

As you can see, the incognito mode has a lot more advantages than disadvantages.

How to activate private browsing

According to Google Chrome, incognito mode is available for Android and iOS (iPadOS) smartphones and tablets. Private browsing is available in the desktop version of the browser for Windows computers and on Mac. Of course, it’s implemented in Chrome OS.

To activate incognito mode in Google Chrome on Android, you need to click on the button with three dots in the upper right corner of the interface. In the side menu of additional actions, you need to select the “New incognito tab” option. On the left side of the address bar you will see a spy icon, which indicates the work of the private browsing. You can move between the regular tabs and the incognito tabs in a completely free mode. Approximately the same activation of private browsing is implemented in other browsers on any platform, as well as other applications.

Features of working in incognito mode

Working in the private window is also easy. All you have to do is paste the link in your browser or type in a query. But there are some nuances here:

  • If you have closed the browser or window, then you can not restore previously opened tabs, they will be irretrievably lost.
  • You can save pages to bookmarks, but they will be displayed there only in normal mode and only after restarting the browser.
  • Files saved in private mode are saved in the “Downloads” folder by default.
  • Some sites do not work if the browser does not save cookies when incognito is enabled, then you have to switch to normal mode.

Why this mode is not safe

While this mode does not record browsing or click-through information, it is available by IP address. Access to visited sites is opened to your ISP, local network administrator, Wi-Fi owner and those who monitor the IP address of your PC or smartphone. When you sign into your account in private mode, a record is made of any user activity.

What will remain after you work with Google Chrome browser in incognito mode

  • History of visits to sites;
  • Cookies auto-fill forms and passwords;
  • The cache memory that was loaded during incognito mode will be completely cleared.

Needless to say, using incognito in the Google Chrome browser will make your activities completely invisible to external sites, search engines and your ISP.
