If You Forgot Your Apple Id Account Password

If you are having trouble logging in with your Apple ID password, you can use the steps described here to reset your password and restore access to your account.
An Apple ID is an account that provides access to Apple‘s many features and services. For example, you can use it to make purchases in the iTunes Store, log in to iCloud, purchase programs, and much more. To reset your password, you need the email address used as your Apple ID. Don’t remember the email address used as your Apple ID?
Password reset
The instructions for the different types of Apple ID security will vary. For example, if you need to verify a phone number, use two-factor authentication. Select the type you want:
Two-factor authentication
If two-factor authentication is enabled for your Apple ID, you can reset or change the password from any trusted iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or password-protected Mac. Can’t access any device?
On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Make sure your device is running iOS 10 or later.
- Go to the “Settings” menu.
- Click [your name] “Password and safety” “Change Password” and follow the on-screen instructions to change the password. If using iOS 10.2 or earlier, click iCloud [Your name] “Password and safety” “Change Password” and follow the on-screen instructions.
Having problems in the previous step? You may not be signed in to iCloud. Open the “Settings” menu and click “Login to [your device]” “No Apple ID or forgot it?”, Then follow the on-screen instructions. If using iOS 10.2 or earlier, click iCloud “Forgot your Apple ID or password?” And follow the on-screen instructions.
On a Mac
- Go to the Apple menu System Preferences and click iCloud.
- Select “Account“.
- If you need to enter your Apple ID password, click “Forgot your Apple ID or password?” And follow the on-screen instructions. You can skip the following steps.
- Select Security “Reset the password”. Before resetting the password, the Apple ID will need to enter the password that is used to unlock the computer.
Having a problem at this point? You may not be signed in to iCloud. Go to the Apple menu System Preferences and click iCloud. Click “Forgot your Apple ID or password?” And follow the on-screen instructions.
Using a recovery key
If you replaced two-step verification with two-factor authentication for Apple ID on iOS 11 and later or macOS High Sierra and later and you have a recovery key, you can use it to reset your password.
No access to any device
Take any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a friend or relative and do the following:
- Open the Find My iPhone program.
- When the login screen is displayed, make sure that the Apple ID field is blank. If another user name is displayed, delete it.
- Click “Forgot your Apple ID or password?” And follow the on-screen instructions.
Login screen not displayed? Click Log Out. After exiting, make sure that the Apple ID field is empty. Then click “Forgot your Apple ID or password?” And follow the on-screen instructions.
You tried to complete these steps, but could not solve the problem? There was an opportunity to reset the password and access the account using the account recovery procedure.
Accounts with or without security questions
- Go to your Apple ID account page and click on the “Forgot your Apple ID or Password” link.
- Enter your Apple ID. Forgot your Apple ID?
- Select the item with password reset and click the “Continue” button.
- Choose your password reset method:
- If your account has security questions configured, you can select the option “Answer security questions” and follow the remaining steps.
- To receive an e-mail message, select the option “Receive e-mail”. To reset your password, use the message sent to your primary or backup email address. Not received an email?
- If a recovery key is requested, use the procedure for two-factor authentication or two-step verification.
After resetting the password, you will be prompted to log in again with the new password. You may also need to update the password in the Settings menu on your devices.
2-step verification
- Go to your Apple ID account page and click on the “Forgot your Apple ID or Password” link. If you are asked to confirm your phone number, follow the instructions for two-factor authentication.
- Enter your Apple ID, select the item with a password reset, and then click Continue. Forgot your Apple ID?
- Enter your recovery key for a two-step verification.
- Select a trusted device. A verification code will be sent to your device.
- Enter confirmation code.
- Enter a different password and select “Reset Password”.
After resetting the password, you will be prompted to log in again with the new password. You may also need to update the password in the Settings menu on your devices.
