Huawei Nova 3 How To Insert A Sim Card

Choosing a compact smartphone in the middle price category often resembles a sapper game, where mines are placed by engineers of the manufacturer. Something is wrong with the design, then the hardware as in the Chinese state employees. finding a standing model is not so simple. It is all the more interesting to follow the latest in this class, such as, for example, Huawei nova with its unusual back surface design. In a cursory glance, the gadget is just wonderful, but for its price, it should completely tear competitors to shreds. But what do we actually get when choosing Huawei nova instead of the flagship? We’ll talk about all this now.

Packaging and equipment

Samples got to the editorial office in the OEM version without final packaging, so you have to rely on the official website of the company with regard to the delivery set. There they promise a USB Type-C cable to the smartphone, a network memory with a current of 2 A, a headset and a “clip” for a card combo tray.

Appearance

Huawei nova looks concise and extremely relevant. The entire front surface is protected by a 2.5D touch glass with a neat earpiece grid on top, on the sides of which there is a block of proximity and light sensors plus a selfie camera.

In the right corner there is a multi-color LED indicator, and below there are no buttons / sensors, only the brand logo.

Accurate rounding and the polished texture of the all-metal body make a good impression, and the soft chamfers of the faces play great in the light. At the top there is a noise reduction microphone and a 3.5 mm jack for headphones, while from below the main speaker and microphone are hidden behind a neat grill. In the center is the current USB Type-C and barely noticeable shielding strips made of plastic.

On the left side there is a combo tray for two nano-SIM cards, or a combination of SIM cards and a microSDXC memory card of any size.

On the right side there is a convenient volume rocker and a power button with inconspicuous edging.

The rounded back surface of the case is not only comfortable and pleasant to the touch, but also looks good. The contrasting combination of the glass insert of the antennas on top adds a certain uniqueness to the appearance of the Huawei nova, and at the same time masks the main camera module with an LED flash. A couple of centimeters below is a fingerprint scanner, which allows you to unlock the device with one touch.

Ergonomics

Thanks to the rounded shapes of the case with a width of only 69.1 mm, it is convenient to use the smartphone with one hand and carry it in the pockets of outerwear. By tactile sensations, everything is also great, since the quality of manufacturing and fitting of all small elements at a high level is good.

The weight of 146 grams is also harmoniously perceived, giving the feeling of a durable flagship product. In addition, nova is one of the most compact in its class, and it is also a powerful argument in favor of the choice, especially when you are tired of large-caliber gadgets.

Screen

For Huawei, the exactly five-inch screen installed in the nova smartphone looks atypical, although the matrix is standardly made using TFT-IPS LTPS technology. The screen resolution of 1920×1080 provides a picture density of 443 pixels per inch, eliminating any claims to sharpness of the picture.

The color rendering of the screen is very close to other products of the company and is characterized by a wide coverage of the NTSC color palette (85%), white balance in the region of 7100K with deep elaboration of black color and extremely wide viewing angles. It is possible to manually adjust the white temperature using a non-informative color palette. The brightness range of the backlight varies in a wide range, allowing you to comfortably read text from the screen in complete darkness, and during the day you can watch under the bright rays of the sun.

The automatic brightness corrector works flawlessly, increasing the brightness to a maximum in a couple of seconds.

The manufacturer of the rounded touch glass is not advertised, although it is durable and equipped with an effective oleophobic layer. Interestingly, up to six simultaneous touches are recognized, but these are trifles.

Interface

The Huawei nova smartphone is running the Android 6.0 operating system with a proprietary add-on to the Emotion 4.1 interface, the look of which is familiar from other smartphones of the company. The interface hierarchy involves the use of desktops as a menu and a platform for widgets with the ability to set different themes and separately adjust background images with scaling and adding a Gaussian blur effect.

The “shutter” of notifications can be called by swiping on the screen, or by a similar movement on the fingerprint scanner. It is divided into the notification area and the settings tab, where you can not only turn on the flashlight and adjust the brightness of the backlight, but also start recording from the screen.

The settings section in the smartphone offers a grouping of all parameters into basic and advanced, which may take some time to master, because many points are not where you expect to see them.

According to today’s fashionable tradition, Huawei nova also has a mode for reducing the intensity of the blue spectrum of the screen’s glow, called eye protection from ultraviolet rays. The mode is aggressive, without the possibility of accurate adjustment.

Gestures of control over the fingerprint scanner are well developed, allowing not only to quickly unlock the device (the password must be a letter), but also to call the notification curtain, scroll through photos in the gallery, answer the call, turn off the alarm, and take pictures with the camera. The scanner itself works perfectly and accurately recognizes prints without having to regularly wipe it.

The design of standard applications and keyboards is standard for the Emotion shell, and does not differ much from the basic Android solutions.

Also do not need a detailed description of the Gallery with an integrated player and music player. There is an FM radio, a file manager and a flashlight. Where without him.

The device is in operation

One of the unusual features of Huawei nova is the use of a third-party 14-nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with two Cortex-A53 processors with a frequency of 2 GHz as a hardware “filling”. 3 GB of RAM and Adreno-506 graphics accelerator supplement the base. The internal memory in the smartphone is 32 GB, an expansion is possible with microSDXC memory cards.

In everyday scenarios, using this with a margin is enough for a hassle-free and quick operation with any applications and viewing a browser with dozens of tabs.

Subjective impressions of the speed of work were confirmed by the results of benchmarks.

To assess the gaming potential, a standard package of games was used.

Doodle Jump DC Super Heroes: A straightforward toy that works fast without a hint of microlags. Lara Croft: Relic Run: everything here is also without question, with good fps and no slowdowns.

Godfire: Rise of Prometheus: a high resolution screen is not best combined with a blurred picture in the game, and fps does not exceed 20-25. World Of Tanks Blitz: by default, the game runs at the minimum graphics settings, although at maximum fps rarely drops below 30.

Watchings through browser clients does not cause any complaints, and from the device’s memory or from the expansion card you can also watch 4Ks with a bitrate of about 30 Mbps.

The device copes well with the main telephone tasks, providing a good margin in volume, accurate bass transmission of the interlocutor’s speech and effective noise reduction. The main speaker produces a volume slightly above average and clear sound reproduction, without a squeak of squeakiness, but also without a hint of low frequencies. The energetic vibromotor completes the impression, allowing you to boldly set up a soundless profile and not worry about missing a call.

The sound in the headphones is best described as traditional for devices based on Qualcomm 6-series chipsets. To the best of clean and tidy, without a noticeable shortage of bottoms and tops, but with a clamped stage and tightened dynamic range. The amplifier also does not differ in power, with “plugs” requiring you to twist the volume by 80–90%, but this is enough for forty-odd hours of listening. Some may like the proprietary DTS Headphone X add-on, which slightly improves the “budget” impression of the sound: it boosts high frequencies and tightens bass through the equalizer.

Camera

The smartphone has an interesting tandem from the main camera of 12 megapixels with autofocus optics at aperture of f / 2.2 and an LED flash, and a front camera of 8 megapixels with fixed optics at aperture of f / 2.0. To control the camera, a proprietary application is provided with convenient switching between normal and scene modes, shooting panoramas and. Management is “sharpened” for shooting on the machine, but there is also a good manual mode with exposure, focus and white balance adjustment on a scale in kelvins.

When shooting during the day, the camera demonstrates good quality images with a neatly set white balance and exposure, carefully avoiding overexposed areas in the frame.

Shooting indoors is given to the camera well, allowing you to do without duplicates in most situations, except for very poor lighting conditions. What is convenient, in difficult situations an informational message appears asking to exclude camera shake.

Shooting at night directly depends on the presence of a lit subject in the frame. In the case of shop windows, signboards and illuminated buildings, you can get a good shot without a bunch of takes, but with uniform twilight you have to be patient, and it’s better to immediately switch to manual mode with a low ISO and a slow shutter speed.

Close-up photos are given to the smartphone well, allowing you to cope with most situations in a couple of takes, and if necessary, take a picture with a flash.

Flash shot Flash off

In general, macro photography is worthy of good marks, not least due to the accurate operation of noise reduction algorithms and the desire of automation to keep ISO at a minimum level.

Everything is fine with shooting text, which is achieved thanks to successful algorithms and fast camera optics.

The front camera pleased with a good level of detail of images suitable for social networks and not only.

There is an effective HDR mode that allows you to shoot under backlight when you want to keep maximum detail in partial shade. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow us to meet a suitable scene.

Shot with HDR Shot without HDR

Panorama shooting is not the strongest side of the device, although in the afternoon the result is pretty decent, and the resolution reaches 2048 pixels in height.

There is also the possibility of recordings in the current UHD resolution and with a frequency of up to 30 frames per second, or time-lapse.

Wireless interfaces

The combo slot allows you to install two nano-format SIM cards and use them in variable mode, because there is only one radio module in the smartphone. One of the cards can work in LTE networks, but the other will only be available in 3G, which allows you to use Tele2 as the second SIM card for calls.

The range of wireless interfaces includes Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11n without ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC support. The latter failed to recognize the transport card of the Moscow metro of a new type.

For navigation, there is support for GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou systems, providing good positioning accuracy and a “cold” start within 20 seconds, while a second satellite search requires no more than five seconds.

Offline work

Special attention should be paid to the duration of the work of the new Huawei on a single charge, because nova is a compact smartphone with an economical hardware “stuffing” on the 14-nm process technology, and a built-in battery in it with a capacity of 3020 mAh. Fast charging is not supported, and from the standard 2 A adapter, the device charges up to 100% of the order of three hours.

But after that it works for about a day and a half with very active use: half an hour of calls, two hours of browser / / social networks, another about an hour of games and four hours of music with periodic launch of navigation and camera. The result is very decent, in addition, in games, only 28% of the charge is spent per hour, and watching a at full brightness in airplane mode will drain the battery in only twelve hours or so.

The corresponding results were demonstrated by the PCMark benchmark, which confirmed the high ambitions of the smartphone in the field of autonomy. This device can withstand a day of heavy use without any problems, and in the average mode it is ready to hold out for two days, or even more.

Summary

The Huawei nova smartphone is extremely compact, accurate in every detail and effective in any tasks, it stands out with a well-coordinated duet of cameras and decent autonomy. You can only visit the modest selection of wireless and communication modules, as well as the choice of hardware “stuffing”, which can be found in more affordable gadgets. How optimal this ratio is, is decided only by a potential buyer. about 23 thousand rubles will have to be paid for a smartphone.
