How To Transfer Video From Computer To Ipad

How to download from computer to iPad

Apple technology has always delighted its users with its simplicity, conciseness and bug-freeness. Users of other operating systems very often struggle with various bugs. And with iOS there are completely different moments, these are the features of the eco-system. In this article, we’ll show you how to transfer from computer to iPad. The same method works for iPhone and iPod.

Via iTunes

Here’s how to proceed if you want to download from your computer to your iPad via iTunes:

  1. Install iTunes, although, most likely, if you use Apple technology, then you already have it installed. In any case, the latest version can always be downloaded from the official website.
  2. Next, you need to prepare the files for upload. Unfortunately, devices with apple, when using a standard player, can only play MP4 files, which are also packed in M4V resolution. If you have a different format, then in order to transfer it from a computer to an iPad, you should reformat it using any converter convenient for you. There are many such programs and most are even free.
  3. We make a folder on the computer, where we will now and further put the files that should be transferred to the device.

We connect the iPad with a cable to the computer. In the tablet control menu or in the settings (then this value will be the same for all devices), enable the Process manually option and apply the changes.

  • Now you can open the Movies tab and just drag it from the folder here.

This is the whole transfer procedure. No syncs or other problems.

Third party players

Just like a computer, you can install a third-party player on Apple devices. This will make it possible to simplify the process of downloading from a computer to an iPad even more than in the case of a standard method and a player. There can be no instructions as such, since each program is unique. But they have in common:

  1. We connect the tablet to the computer and launch iTunes. We go to the gadget menu and the application tab. The desired player must already be installed.

Go to the application tab and see the field with files, click Add and load everything you need to the program.

  • After downloading the file, you can enter the program; will be there now.

About the ways

There are several ways how to transfer from computer to iPad:

  1. Easiest iTunes way. You need the gadget itself, a complete cable and a computer running Windows or OS.
  2. The way is more modern cloud. Here we simply upload ours to any data storage service we like. In this case, you do not need a cable, but you need the Internet, and quite high speed.
  3. A fairly popular method is to use third-party players. This will allow you to watch not only MP4.
  4. And the last option if the computer is very far away. Apple Connection Kit is a special adapter that is inserted into the slot of the device and allows the gadget to read memory cards.

Through the cloud

In this case, you need to create an account for yourself in any cloud storage service. We will show with the example of DropBox.

  1. We go into the service, create a folder there and load the necessary one there.

After that, we install the applications of the data storage service on the device and open from the tablet.

Can be viewed online or downloaded to the device memory.

This method is probably the simplest, but it will require an account in the service, the required amount of memory there and a fairly fast Internet.

Apple Connection Kit

Probably the most specific method, only needed if you have a need to download files directly from a memory card.

There are subtleties here, since the adapter is designed to transfer photos created by a camera or camera. But this moment can be circumvented:

  1. The file format is strictly MP4 (m4v).
  2. Create a DCIM folder on the flash drive.
  3. Files must be named PICT0001.Mp4
  4. And now you can copy files through the standard photo app.

Everything is not difficult here, but you need a rather expensive accessory.

How to transfer files to your phone over Wi-Fi

Transferring files via Wi-Fi is possible in several ways in the first, and, perhaps, the best of them, the computer and the phone must be on the same local network, i.E. Connected to the same Wi-Fi router, or you should enable Wi-Fi distribution on the phone, and connect to the created access point from the computer. In general, this method will work on the Internet, but in this case, registration will be required, and the file transfer will be slower, since the traffic will go through the Internet (and with a 3G connection it will also be expensive).

How To Transfer From Computer To Ipad

Accessing Android files via browser in Airdroid

Directly to access files on your phone, you need to install the AirDroid application on it, which can be downloaded for free from Google Play. After installation, you can not only transfer files, but also perform many other actions with the phone, write messages, view photos, etc. I wrote in detail about how it works in the article Remote control of Android from a computer.

In addition, you can use more sophisticated methods to transfer files over Wi-Fi. The methods are not entirely for beginners, and therefore I will not explain them too much, I will just hint how else this can be done: those who need it will easily understand what it is about. These are the ways:

  • Install FTP Server on Android for FTP File Access
  • Create shared folders on a computer, access them using SMB (supported, for example, in ES File Explorer for Android

How to Transfer Files from Computer to Android Phone and Back

In general, I don’t know if this article can be useful to someone, since transferring files to the phone usually does not pose any problems. Nevertheless, I undertake to write about this, in the course of the article I will talk about the following things:

  • Transfer files over the wire via USB. Why files are not transferred via USB to my phone in Windows XP (for some models).
  • How to transfer files over Wi-Fi (two ways).
  • Transferring files to your phone via Bluetooth.
  • Synchronizing files using cloud storage.

In general, the outline of the article is outlined, I proceed. Read more interesting articles about Android and the secrets of using it here.

Bluetooth file transfer

In order to transfer files via Bluetooth from a computer to a phone, just turn on Bluetooth on both, also in the phone, if it has not been previously paired with this computer or laptop, go to the Bluetooth settings and make the device visible. Next, in order to transfer the file, right-click on it and select Send Bluetooth Device. In general, that’s all.

Transferring files to your phone via BlueTooth

Some laptops may have preinstalled programs for more convenient BT file transfer and more advanced features using Wireless FTP. Such programs can also be installed separately.

Transfer files to and from your phone via USB

This is perhaps the easiest way: just connect the phone and the USB port of the computer with a cable (the cable is included in the kit of almost any Android phone, sometimes it is part of the charger) and it is defined in the system as one or two removable disks or as a media device in depending on Android version and specific phone model. In some cases, on the phone screen, you will need to press the Enable USB storage button.

Phone memory and SD card in Windows Explorer

In the example above, the connected phone is defined as two removable disks, one corresponds to the memory card, the other to the internal memory of the phone. In this case, copying, deleting, transferring files from the computer to the phone and vice versa is carried out in the same way as in the case of a regular USB flash drive. You can create folders, organize files as you like and perform any other actions (it is advisable not to touch the application folders that are created automatically, unless you know exactly what you are doing).

Android device is identified as a portable player

In some cases, the phone in the system may be identified as a media device or Portable player, which will look something like the picture above. By opening this device, you can also access the device’s internal memory and SD card, if available. When the phone is identified as a portable player, a message may appear when copying some types of files that the file cannot be played or opened on the device. Do not pay attention to this. However, in Windows XP, this can lead to the fact that you simply cannot copy the files you need to your phone. Here I can advise either to change the operating system to a more modern one, or to use one of the methods, which will be described below.

Using cloud storage

If you are not yet using any of the cloud services, such as SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Yandex Disk, then it’s time to believe, it’s very convenient. Including when you need to transfer files to your phone.

In general, which is suitable for any cloud service, you can download the corresponding free application to your Android phone, run it with your credentials and get full access to the synced folder, you can view its contents, change it or download data to your phone. There are additional options depending on which specific service you use. For example, in SkyDrive, you can access all folders and files on your computer from your phone, and in Google Drive, you can edit documents and spreadsheets in the storage directly from your phone.

Access computer files in SkyDrive

I think these methods will be enough for most purposes, but if I forgot to mention an interesting option, be sure to write about it in the comments.

The main advantage of this and other such applications is the smooth playback of almost all popular formats, including mkv, mp4 with codecs other than H.264 and others.

After installing the application, there are two ways to copy files to the device: using iTunes (but without restrictions on formats) or via Wi-Fi in the local network (i.E. Both the computer and phone or tablet must be connected to the same router for transmission).

Copy from Computer to iPhone and iPad to iTunes

Apple has provided only one option for copying media files, including from a Windows or MacOS computer to iPhones and iPads using iTunes (hereinafter I will assume that iTunes is already installed on your computer).

The main limitation of the method is support only for.Mov.M4v and.Mp4 formats. over, for the latter case, the format is not always supported (depends on the codecs used, the most popular H.264 is supported).

To copy using iTunes, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Connect the device, if iTunes does not start automatically, start the program.
  2. Select your iPhone or iPad in the device list.
  3. In the On my device section, select Movies and simply drag the files you want from the folder on your computer to the list of movies on your device (you can also select Add File to Library from the File menu.

  5. After adding files to the list, click the Sync button at the bottom. When synchronization is complete, you can disconnect the device.

After copying to the device, you can view them in the application on it.

How to Transfer to iPhone and iPad from Computer

One of the possible tasks of the owner of an iPhone or iPad is transferring to it downloaded on a computer or laptop for later viewing on the road, waiting or somewhere else. Unfortunately, it is impossible to do this by simply copying the files as to a USB flash drive in the case of iOS. However, there are plenty of ways to copy a movie.

In this guide for beginners about two ways to transfer files from a Windows computer to an iPhone and iPad from a computer: the official (and its limitation) and my preferred method without iTunes (including Wi-Fi), as well as briefly about other possible options. Note: the same methods can be used on macOS computers (but sometimes it is more convenient to use Airdrop for them).

Transfer to iPhone or iPad over Wi-Fi in VLC

Note: for the method to work, both the computer and the iOS device must be connected to the same network.

  1. Launch the VLC app, open the menu and enable WiFi Access.
  2. An address will appear next to the switch, which must be entered in any browser on the computer.
  3. Having opened this address, you will see a page on which you can simply drag and drop files, or click on the Plus button and specify the required files.
  4. Wait for the download to finish (in some browsers the progress bar and percentages are not displayed, but the download is in progress).

Once completed, you can view it in VLC on your device.

Note: I noticed that sometimes after downloading VLC does not display the downloaded files in the playlist (although they take up space on the device). I empirically determined that this happens with long file names in Russian with punctuation marks, I did not reveal clear patterns, but renaming the file to something simpler helps to solve the problem.

How to upload any format to iPad

First of all, let’s consider the easiest way to throw a or movie from a computer to an iPad. Step number 2. Connect the iPad to the computer and go to iTunes.

Immediately after selecting a file, iTunes will start uploading it to your iPad. After completing this process, you should be able to find it in the player of your choice.
