How to sync contacts from Google to iPhone

How to sync Gmail \ Google Contacts from iOS to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

It’s very easy to set up, but before you start, you should take a moment to back up your iPhone contacts. You can do this either with iTunes, iCloud, or by exporting them from the Internet, and this ensures that you have a proper copy, intact, in case something goes wrong with the sync setup procedure. It is unlikely that something will go wrong, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Set up Google / Gmail contacts sync using iOS

The configuration is the same on any iOS device or OS version. The included screenshots show the setup from iOS 7 from an iPhone:

  • Open “Settings” in iOS, then go to “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”,
  • Select “Add Account” and scroll down to select “Other”,
  • In the “Contacts” section, select the “Add CardDAV Account” option
  • Fill in your Google account details to sync contacts:
  • Server: google.com Username: (your username) Password: (your password) Description: Google Contacts

    If you have a huge list of contacts stored on Google, it may take a while to sync. Launch Contacts to confirm that your Google / Gmail contacts are now on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

    CardDAV works great and syncs both ways, that is, if you do an edit or customization on an iOS device, it syncs with Google and Gmail, and similarly, if you make changes or add a new contact from Google services, it syncs back to iOS device. This is done entirely outside of Apple’s iCloud and handled by Google. This makes it a great choice for users sharing smartphone usage time between Android and iPhone, and the easiest way to transfer contacts from one device platform to another if you’re making a more permanent switch.

    Mac users can also sync the OS X Contacts app with Google Contacts by following these instructions. This will keep all Google contact data in sync between desktop OS X, mobile iOS, Gmail web servers, and Android.

    Google. Android

    It all started from the moment when the phone started asking us for an account from the mail. This gave a number of advantages:

    You can also do without an account, but, on the other hand, why then a smartphone? In addition, all the possibilities of the gadget open only when the account is activated.

    The very synchronization of Android contacts with google was created in order to combine contacts from all devices in one storage.

    Let’s say you have 2 phones, a tablet, a smart watch and a few more devices. Each of them has its own contacts.

    The problem arises when the required phone is on a discharged smartphone, but it is badly needed at the moment.

    How to combine all data under the umbrella of one Google account?

    First, we find the settings, after which we scroll down until we come across the required item.

    Click on it and see a lonely button “add account”. Feel free to click on it and move on.

    We see a list of preinstalled applications, for the correct operation of which you need to enter a username and password.

    Many will ask about the lack of Skype and If clients are on your phone, they will be displayed in this menu.

    But we are interested in the Google account. Click on it.

    How to import google contacts to iPhone

    The system kindly offers to register a new account or enter an existing one.

    Practice shows that it is inconvenient to create an account on the phone. It is better to do this on a computer if it is at hand.

    When everything is ready, enter the data and click on the arrow icon to the right of the account. Everything, you are in sync with the base.

    Now go to the “Contacts” section on your smartphone.

    We call the context menu (the functional settings button at the bottom of the phone) and select the item indicated in the screenshot.

    As a synchronization source, select the phone memory or SIM card and click “Next”.

    Next, select the new repository that we just created. Those. our mail account.

    We select all the necessary phones that you want to transfer to the “cloud”. Then click on the lower right icon and wait for the process to complete.

    To check if everything worked out, go to the mail on your PC, and in the address bar enter www.google.com/contacts.

    A complete list of all data that was previously on your phone, but then “migrated” to the Internet will be displayed.

    Now you can combine several numbers under one name and divide your friends into groups. It is more than convenient.

    In addition, when flashing the device, you will not have to restore all the numbers bit by bit.

    How to Sync Google Contacts and Make it Default Contacts Address Book on iOS Devices

    sync, contacts, google, iphone

    iOS. Google

    With one sorted out. Moving on to apple products.

    Despite the fact that the owners of devices from “Steve Jobs” for some reason do not like fans of Android, they often use Google services.

    Synchronizing iPhone contacts with google is pretty easy to set up. First, open the list of applications and look for settings.

    We are interested in such an item as “Mail”. Click on it and go to the submenu, where you need to click on adding an account.

    In the list of proposed options, select the required one, i.e. click on the Google logo.

    We fill in all the fields that are available, paying special attention to the second and third.

    In the first, enter a name or nickname, and the “Description” column was created so that you do not lose numbers in the phone’s address book. Give it a title so you won’t forget.

    Click “Next” and redirect to the newly baked account. We synchronize everything except mail.

    It remains only to go to the list of contacts to make sure that the manipulations are correct. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see anything.

    In order for the work to be completed, you need to take care of back synchronization.

    We return to the long-suffering mail settings and look for a tab with contacts.

    Click on the standard account, then select Gmail from the options offered.

    It remains only to open contacts and wait for the end of synchronization. Everything is ready now.

    Why store hundreds of numbers in the smartphone’s memory when they can be moved to the Internet. This saves you from problems such as:

    • clutter;
    • phone glitches with subsequent flashing;
    • accidental deletion of the desired number;
    • lack of thematic groups.

    Plus, you get full editing access for all your online friends.

    Agree, clicking the mouse is much faster and more comfortable than poking your finger into a smartphone, burning the battery charge.

    Combine all your phones under a single account and enjoy order and accessibility from any device.

    Google contacts sync: how to transfer contacts from phone to network

    Synchronizing Google contacts is a very useful feature that, for some reason, not everyone uses.

    Even 7-8 years ago, when phones were small, and the space for contacts was strictly limited by the memory of a smartphone and a SIM-card, many had to store phone numbers in notebooks, notebooks, or just keep them in memory.

    Organizers were developed for business people. A useful thing, but accessible to a limited circle of wealthy people.

    With the advent of the first smartphones on Android and iOS, developers began to talk about some kind of synchronization, but they understood only a few.

    What it is, they began to understand only recently, with the release of Android 4 ICS and iOS4, respectively.

    So, let’s take a look at how contact synchronization works using the example of two popular mobile systems.

    Let’s start, by tradition, with the brainchild of Google, but let’s not forget about Apple’s products.

    Android: Linking Phone Contacts to Google Account

    Google contacts sync: how to transfer contacts from phone to network

    The article describes in detail the process of synchronizing phone contacts with Google. Simple, clear and concise, this is what can be said about the description above. If you intend to sync your data, but do not know how, then the explanation is better. you can’t find.

    How To: Sync Google Contacts to iOS Device Using CardDAV

    If you have an iPhone or iPad but use a Google account for most of your communication, syncing your contacts just got a lot easier. Google recently announced the addition of support for CardDAV, an open protocol that makes it easy to integrate Google Contacts with other services.

    Google states that “Synchronization via CardDAV is only available via SSL for Apple devices running iOS 5.0 and higher.” So, if you are using an older version of iOS, you will have to use Google Sync instead.

    To enable it, open Settings on your iOS device. and go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select Add Account. Other. Add CardDAV Account.

    Then fill in the information by entering “google.com” in the “Server” field.

    Then all you have to do is click Next and make sure Contacts is enabled. for account.

    As soon as you open the Contacts app, it should automatically start syncing. If that doesn’t work, visit the Google support page for troubleshooting tips. They advise you to:

    • Open the CardDAV account you created in the Settings section. “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” in the “Accounts” section. Make sure Account is set to ON.
    • If the account is set to ON, open the advanced settings below and make sure the Use SSL option is set to ON.
    • If you have changed something, click “Done” and in the upper right corner of the screen showing your account settings to save these changes.
    • If you’re still having trouble syncing contacts using CardDAV, sign in to your Google account online. You may be prompted to confirm “Unusual place to enter”.

    Sync contacts with Google

    Then you ask: “Is there an alternative?” Of course there is, it is very “beloved” by the Google Apple. The platform independent service Gmail is devoid of all these annoyances. Once the settings have been made, you can automatically sync your iPhone contacts without fear for phonebook entries. Except for you, no one will have access to it. And besides, in Google, you can restore your contact list as of any time in the past 30 days.

    Disadvantages of syncing contacts with iTunes and iCloud

    • By giving your account to someone to install programs, you immediately give him access to the phone book, as. App Store and iCloud login details are the same.
    • If you decide to change your iCloud account on your device, you will lose access to your phone book. Your contacts will be downloaded from the new iCloud.
    • If you accidentally deleted someone’s contact, then you can restore it only by restoring a backup.
    • And if you made a new entry in the phone book, then in order for it to be archived, you need to sync with iTunes.

    How to sync iPhone contacts (correct way)

    After writing an article on how to transfer contacts from android to iPhone, I was frankly surprised by the results of the survey. It turns out that more than half of users store contacts only on the phone.

    Perhaps many do not attach any importance to this, but I will say from experience. Between the second and third recovery of the notebook, the thought comes that I am doing something wrong. There can be a lot of reasons for losing records, from an unsuccessful update or jailbreak to a banal loss of your phone. Therefore, this article is for those who have reached enlightenment.

    Apple seemingly provides users with a convenient system for storing their records and phone book. It is tied to iCloud cloud storage. And here, as they say, all the shortcomings follow from the positive sides. Namely:

    • Click the Contacts link below the folder list on any Gmail page.

    Sync iPhone / iPad Contacts with Google (Gmail)

    For those with iCloud sync enabled: read this comment.

    Despite the seeming simplicity of the setup, there is a pitfall here. An account like Gmail does not sync contacts with Google Contacts (!):

    This situation is solved simply (for the iPad the same thing, only the pictures are larger in resolution, therefore I do not give it).

    We go to “Settings” “Mail, addresses, calendars”. Click “Add.”.

    Attention! Select “Microsoft Exchange” as the account type and fill in the appropriate parameters. It is important to specify the domain “m.google.com”, and then the server “m.google.com”.

    Next, we will see that the items “Contacts” and “Reminders” will appear in the recording parameters, but “Notes” will disappear (how to restore the synchronization of notes, described here):

    We check in Google Contacts that the contact information has been transferred. After that you need to uncheck “Synchronize contacts with”.

    Now go back to the settings and select “Contacts”. We will be asked: “What do you want to do with the existing local objects: contacts on the iPhone?”. Since the contact information has been saved, we select “Delete”.

    There will be a second warning: “Are you sure you want to continue? All existing contacts will be removed from the iPhone.” Select “Delete” again and see that the synchronization of “Contacts” is enabled.

    Going into contacts, you can see the corresponding group, and in it the Gmail contacts:

    That’s all. How to restore synchronization of notes, see here.

    I will add a few notes:

    • When synchronizing contacts with Google, there is no possibility to create contact groups on the phone (there are groups in Google itself). There is no cure yet.
    • Sometimes a situation arises: there is a contact in Google contacts, but it stubbornly does not appear on the iPhone. In such cases, I create a fictitious contact on the phone; syncing contacts; and then in Google Contacts I merge these two contacts. Now the problematic contact will appear on the phone.

    In September 2012, Google added support for the CardDAV protocol (no groups are created either). You can read more about setting up on the official website.

    How to sync iPhone / iPad contacts / calendar with Google

    How to sync iPhone / iPad contacts / calendar with Google

    sync, contacts, google, iphone

    I have already written many times that I myself store my contacts / calendar in the Google cloud service (the contacts and calendar section in GMail) and I think this method is the most universal for all mobile operating systems. Because all major mobile platforms support synchronization with Google: Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Symbian, BlackBerry (RIM). In addition, this data is always very easy to access via the Web.

    Thus, despite the fact that in the same iOS it is possible to synchronize the calendar and contacts via the iCloud cloud service, both in the iPhone and in different iPads (10 “and 7”), I use synchronization only with Google, not with iCloud.

    Well, everything is clear with me: I often change gadgets and use a variety of platforms, so only with Google I have no problems with transferring my data. However, even if you only use a bunch of iPhone / iPad, then, in my opinion, it makes sense to store contacts and calendar in Google and sync with iOS. Because it is, firstly, more convenient (it is easier to edit, there are much more services), and secondly, it is an order of magnitude more universal. You never know, suddenly you want to try a new android phone. Or a transformer for Windows 8. In the case of storing data in Google, you just need to connect the corresponding GMail account in these devices. and that’s it, the data in the new device will be automatically.

    Until recently, in iOS, contacts / calendar synchronization with Google had to be done through the connection of an MS Exchange account, no matter how paradoxical it may sound. IOS has the ability to connect to a GMail account, but only mail, calendars, and notes are synced. But not contacts. I don’t know why it is so conveniently done and why it hasn’t been corrected for so many years.

    Therefore, it was necessary to connect the GMail account as an MS Exchange account. I described here in detail how to do this. then it was possible to sync calendars, contacts and reminders.

    However, this was also not a very suitable way. Because there are limitations of the Exchange Sync protocol itself, as a result of which you could not create, for example, several mobile or several home numbers of one contact. on the Google server, only one number was marked as mobile (or as home), and the rest were changed to other. There were also other restrictions, and only one reminder could be specified in the calendar when creating events.

    But then there were no other ways, I had to be content with what I have.

    Since a certain point, Google has implemented support for the CardDAV and CalDAV protocols for contacts and calendar. At the same time, support for these protocols appeared in iOS starting from the 5th version.

    What does this mean? Now, in devices on iOS, starting from the 5th version, you can no longer use the connection via MS Exchange, but make a connection via CardDAV for contacts and via CalDAV for the calendar. And there will no longer be any restrictions: for one contact, you can write at least a hundred mobile numbers. they will all display normally on google.

    This connection is made absolutely elementary. As usual, we use the GMail account to synchronize mail and, possibly, notes. (Although I don’t understand why I would use this wretched “Notes” when I have Evernote.)

    Next, go to Settings. Mail, addresses, calendars. Add and select Other there. This menu appears.

    There, as you can see, you can select a CardDAV account and a CalDAV account. for contacts and calendar.

    Filling in the data is very simple. here is an example for the GMail account.

    That is, as a server. google.com, and as a user password. the credentials of the corresponding GMail account.

    Well, that’s it, after that your contacts and calendars in iOS are fully compatible with Google contacts: everything is added, edited, transferred without any problems and restrictions.

    Calendar

    Sync iPhone Contacts to Google

    If the user has all the phones saved on his smartphone, and he needs to transfer them to his mailbox account, there are several ways to do this. Syncing iPhone contacts to Google can be done through your phone or using the iCloud service. It is worth telling more about the procedure.

    Move contacts from iPhone to Gmail using Google Sync

    This synchronization method can be used for businesses or government agencies. To transfer contacts via Gmail to iPhone, you need to follow the instructions:

    • then the owner must click on the “Create an account” button;
    • next, the program in which the account will be created is selected, in our case “Microsoft Exchange” is required;
    • the client will be required to provide account information;
    • first, the mailing address of the Google box is entered;
    • then the client should specify the password from the system;
    • come up with a description, such as “Google Contacts”;
    • the “Next” button is pressed, it is located at the top of the screen in the corner;
    • then a new window will be displayed on the screen, it indicates the server as “m.google.com”;
    • the domain should be left blank;
    • the email address is used as the username;
    • the password is the account access code;
    • it will remain to press the “Save” button so that all the data is set.

    Now the owner can turn on mail and see if the settings were transferred to the mailbox.

    Can user transfer contacts from iPhone to Google account

    The owner of the cell phone is given the opportunity to import the phone numbers that are stored in the smartphone in the mail account. It is worth telling in more detail about how to synchronize data between a cell phone and a Google profile.
