Installing third-party applications via X-Plore

Xiaomi

Open your file manager. There are several ways to install third-party programs:

  • Upload files to a USB flash drive and connect it to the box.
  • Download files to a USB flash drive and connect it to the router. In this case, you need to click on LAN. Search (in the right column below). The system will detect the drive and you can open the.APK or video.
  • Launch the Wi-FI Server and transfer files directly from the computer to the set-top box. I chose this option.

Open a browser on your PC and go to 192.168.1.5:1111. This is the Mi Box S file system. Drag here.APK files or.m3u8 playlists, they will be saved on the box.

Return to X-Plore on TV. Double click to open the APK file and install the application. It can be added to the home screen as usual.

How to bring your phone screen to TV?

Useful tricks for Mi Box S

How to swap apps in Favorites?

Place the cursor on the desired program and hold down the center button. A small menu will pop up: Open, Move, Remove from favorites.

Setting up IPTV and HD Videobox on Xiaomi Mi Box S

If you want to use IPTV, torrents or HD Videobox, install MX Player or VLC Player.

Be sure to configure X-Plore Manager from the previous point!

Upload and install the.APK file via the file manager on the set-top box.

Who doesn’t know, HD Videobox is an application for watching movies and TV shows. It searches for videos on dozens of popular movie portals, sorts them by quality and displays them without ads.

For all the time of using, I have not come across a single movie that I could not find in the Videobox. Even new items of this year are available.

IPTV. Internet TV with which you can watch TV channels, movies and even listen to music.

For data transmission, special.m3u /.m3u8 links are used, and IPTV playlists are a collection of such sources.

First, decide how you will watch TV channels: use your playlists or include already installed channels inside the player?

For my own playlists, I recommend Perfect Player, and for the second option. Fry! TV.

Our playlists and Fry! TV have a TV guide for a few days ahead. Also, paid IPTV has the ability to record broadcast.

Download the.APK file of the selected player.

Android TV

The Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4S 55 runs on Android TV 9, which is rather a plus for a budget model. Despite the modest hardware (4 cores ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.4 GHz, graphics subsystem Mali-450 MP3 and 2 GB of RAM), the system adequately responds to user actions.

In general, there are a lot of “bells and whistles” here: integration of Google services, Chromecast functions, voice search, support for third-party APK applications, and so on. In a word, there is a place for an inquiring mind trained on smartphones to roam.

It is curious that the TV has two shells at once, you can switch between them by pressing one button on the remote control. The first is the standard Android TV 9 interface, in which all content is divided into several main sections, displayed in tiles in a line.

The second is the proprietary Xiaomi PatchWall shell. Popular content based on personalized recommendations is displayed here. If you love watching TV shows, new items from Amediateka will prevail in your menu. If you love Hollywood action games, Okko’s films and ivi.ru will appear here more often.

Operating system settings Mi TV 4S 55

At the first launch, the user is given the opportunity to choose which one to make the main one. If after some time you decide to change your mind, you can change the default shell through the choice of the launcher in the Android settings. Yes, we’re still talking about TV!

As a sign of generosity, Xiaomi is giving TV buyers a 6-month subscription to paid video services. You can activate it by going to the corresponding application under your account until December 31, 2019. This is another opportunity to save money built into the TV.

Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4S 55 review: fabulously cheap Android TV

4K-TV with HDR support for 30 thousand rubles, two “operating systems” at once and abundant functionality. Are we really in a fairy tale? It turns out that competitors in the mass market already need to run after the Korean analogue of Xanax? Or is it too early for Xiaomi‘s miracle TV to celebrate an unconditional victory? We test the novelty and figure it out ourselves!

Discreet design

The appearance of the TV did not become a revelation, although it looks quite good against the background of other budget models. Perhaps most notable is the thin bezel with a brushed aluminum finish. Even though the metal layer is thin and rough, it still looks and feels better than utilitarian plastic. Also, the front part is decorated with a minimalistic Mi logo and a transparent indicator light under it.

Table TV stand. two small legs on the sides. They are fastened without any invention or safety net, so it is better to assemble them in the position of the body “lying” on the edge of some surface. Having hoisted a fairly light TV (12.45 kg) on these legs, you understand that the whole structure is not too rigid and tends to sway and even twist under external influences. If you have children and pets running in a race, it is worth protecting the TV from tipping over.

The case is relatively “thick” by modern standards. among other things, this is influenced by the Direct LED backlight located directly behind the panel, and not on the side. The entire back wall is plastic, the connectors are located closer to the center.

The finishing touch is the nameplate, which says that the TV with the L55M5-5ARU index is assembled in Kaliningrad. So our “Chinese” ended up with a Russian residence permit.

On the back, there are three HDMI 2.0 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, an antenna input and standard stuff like a headphone jack. The connectors are located on two sites in the center of the TV. and the system is not provided to “hide” the cables.

The main control is a minimalistic remote control connected via Bluetooth. They left the very minimum of buttons on it to control the TV. On the one hand, it is impossible to get lost in it. On the other hand, basic things like switching sources and adjusting the image go through several menu levels instead of a trivial push of a button.

Picture and sound

The Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4S 55 has a 55-inch VA glossy matrix. The anti-glare is not too strong, so it is better for the TV to choose a place and position so that there are no windows or bright light sources directly opposite it.

The viewing angles are all right: the image fades smoothly at an angle, the distortion is low, and you will hardly have to regret that it is not an IPS matrix.

I was also pleased with the uniformity of the backlighting: the LED blocks are located right behind the matrix, so there are no strong drops even in the corners of the screen. We deliberately looked at the screen in the dark and did not see any “clouds”, which is rather rare for an LCD TV. By the way, the maximum backlight brightness is 327 cd / m2, not bad, but this is clearly not enough for HDR (the minimum level for the declared UHD Premium certification is 1000 cd / m2).

The contrast ratio reaches 3000: 1. a commendable result! Taking into account that the default gamma is set to the optimal value of 2.2, the image in SDR mode is quite contrasting, but not “cluttered”. Except that subtle color transitions are displayed roughly in places, since the matrix operates in 8-bit mode.

The default color temperature went off scale under 12000 K, and this is the first shock. The color gamut may be close to Rec. 709, but the color rendition is noticeably distorted due to the too cold overall tone. Red tones are especially poorer, which often lack juiciness.

After going through several modes, we came to the conclusion that the “Sport” preset (second shock) can slightly improve the situation. Here there is a more “cinematic” gamut of 2.35 and a color temperature of 8500 K. still better than it was.

But, as you can imagine, this does not solve general problems with color reproduction. We tried to twist the color temperature settings, in which there are only three positions: cold, normal, warm. They turned out to be simply inoperative. nothing changed on the screen, so you can forget about the optimal 6500 K, unless it is fixed in upcoming updates.

Almost everyone managed to sing praises to 4K resolution on a relatively inexpensive TV, but missed one subtle caveat: the Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4S 55 matrix uses a non-standard subpixel structure, which is distinguished by an offset pixel grid. And on different tones, rather coarse static dithering is used (the formation of additional tones by mixing existing ones), due to which some of the pixels are muted on the screen and diamond-shaped patterns similar to ripples or moire are often visible.

All this adds up to an image that is noticeably inferior in clarity to the “correct” 4K. In real-world conditions, the advantage over Full HD with linear subpixel orientation remains minimal, if not noticeable at all. In addition, the TV does not perform very well as a monitor: on almost all fonts and outlines, the “cross” structure of pixels is striking, which reduces the perceived sharpness of the image.

The image settings in Mi TV 4S 55 are present, but not applicable in practice (at least in the current firmware version)

To be honest, we don’t know why even mention the HDR format if the TV has a completely standard brightness, backlighting and color gamut. The fact is that Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4S 55 is physically unable to show the difference between SDR and wide range HDR video. even if he really wants to. in addition to brightness, color depth is also lacking (a 10-bit picture is not supported, its maximum is 8 bits). This is aggravated by the fact that in attempts to “clamp” a wide dynamic range to their capabilities, firstly, semitones are lost, and secondly, flaws in the processing and inevitable signal conversion affect. Ultimately, ordinary SDR video looks better and more convincing than “pseudo-HDR”. The latter function was done rather for the sake of compatibility with signals and sources. Should be called Mi TV 4S 55 rather “HDR-Ready TV”.

The built-in sound pleased us. this is due to the sufficient depth of the TV case, where quite normal speakers fit. The volume margin is not the highest, but there is little distortion, and the timbre with hints of bass is much nicer than that of most very “squeaky” ultra-thin TVs.

Built-in media player

The TV can hardware decode H.264 and H.265 / HEVC video, so we had no particular concerns about multimedia functions. “Heavy” video in 2160p resolution played quite easily from an external HDD, and even rewinding turned out to be quite fast.

What confused me was the presence of strange plumes that now and then appeared in some files. This was partly an annoying side effect of noise reduction, but even with Noise Reduction processing turned off, some scenes still showed unnatural motion blur. And this has nothing to do with the speed and physical properties of the matrix. flaws are completely on the side of the decoder, processing and software.

The issue of supporting multiple audio tracks and switching subtitles also remained unresolved: these items were simply not found in the standard application, and the corresponding buttons on the remote control. On the other hand, the beauty of Android TV is that you are not limited by the manufacturer’s software. you can always put a third-party player to your liking.

This budget 4K TV is more like an Android tablet with a large screen, in which the actual TV functions are relegated to the background. And the focus is on the ability to consume content via Android TV network services, customize the system, and experiment with APKs.

This approach has the right to life, as well as reflects the trends of the times. And judging by the responses of the first users, they are quite satisfied with such a balance, because there is another important trump card on the side of the TV. many will turn a blind eye to this, because there are still few alternatives.

Well, if you want to contemplate the true visual brilliance of 4K with HDR, flexibly configure inputs for different sources (movies, games, etc.), then there is no choice. you will have to expand your budget at least twice. In the end, you get exactly what you pay for, and this formula has not yet been outsmarted by anyone. not even a resourceful company like Xiaomi.

What makes the Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) different from other Xiaomi smart TVs?

The 43-inch Mi LED TV 4S 43 also received 4K-resolution with HDR support, but has less powerful speakers. 8 W versus 10 for the Mi 4S 55, and also only two USB 2.0 ports instead of three.

The youngest model, Mi LED TV 4A 32, has a 32-inch matrix with HD resolution (1366 × 768), 5-watt speakers and only 1 GB of RAM (the older models have 2 GB each).

It is also worth noting that 11,999 rubles) also looks very attractive, and it is noticeably lower than most TV models with comparable characteristics.

Hardware and software in Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5)

Like most modern smart TVs, the Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) uses an adapted version of the Android TV OS, and this is a key difference from the TVs with less impressive screen diagonal, presented this year. In this case, you can choose with which interface the TV will be loaded. with the original or branded from Xiaomi. I liked the pleasant design and the well-designed and logical menu with the most necessary settings and a small set of the most essential applications. The missing ones can be downloaded, as usual, from the Google Market.

One of the main differences between the Xiaomi TV and others is the presence of a special PatchWall recommendation system. Its task is to offer the user the most personalized content, as they say in Xiaomi, and the more you use the TV, the more accurate these recommendations will be. All content is categorized and well structured. The main screen of the shell displays the most relevant films, series and selections, including content from online cinemas. It should be added that when buying a TV, a six-month subscription to the main Russian online cinemas and video services is given as a gift: ivi, OKKO, KinoPoisk, MEGOGO, TVZAVR, 24 hours TV and MegaFon TV.

Since this TV is intended to be an entertainment center not only for adults, but also for children, there is also the possibility of turning on the parental control function.

Among the features, we also note support for Chromcast technology, which allows you to broadcast a picture from a mobile device to TV.

Applications are launched quite quickly, the forces of the used hardware platform are quite enough for smooth video playback. It has a 64-bit quad-core Cortex A55 processor that operates at frequencies up to 1.4 GHz and is complemented by a Mali 470MP graphics chip, we also note 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM, of which about 4.5 GB are available to the owner.

Standard media player understands most modern formats (MP3, WMA, MPEG4, HEVC (H.265), DivX, MKV, JPEG).

Sound quality Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5)

Can an inexpensive TV make a lover of music and sophisticated special effects sound good? As a rule, no. But even here Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) managed to surprise. Here, the DolbyDTS system is responsible for the sound, and the sound quality, I must say, turned out to be quite high.

The audio system is located at the lower rear of the device and consists of two built-in 10 W speakers, but this fact does not affect the sound too much. The built-in acoustics produce surprisingly decent bass and acceptable high frequencies, while the mids, as usual, are not so good. But overall, the sound is soft and pleasant. Jazz compositions performed by Igor Butman delight with their depth, but the sound lacks sophistication. With the reproduction of “Waltz of the Flowers” by P.I. Tchaikovsky’s built-in acoustics managed to score “4”, individual instruments are well distinguishable, but the microdynamics could be better. The special effects in the films are transmitted very well, delighting in volume. in the film “Transformers: Age of Extermination” shots and explosions sound very convincing and the rattling of the body at high volume was not noticed.

Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 smart TV remote control

The package includes a miniature remote control, which is connected when the TV is turned on for the first time, and for a more stable connection with the receiver, a Bluetooth interface is used.

You can control the TV from the remote control using the buttons available (the set is pretty standard, apart from the Mi buttons for quick access to the PatchWall system. In addition, the remote control has a built-in microphone, so you can use the voice control function and Google Assistant, which copes very well with search for content, among all the variety of services presented on Mi TV.An annoying minus. the voice assistant cannot be used to switch channels and adjust the volume.

There is no numeric keypad on the remote control, but this does not bother much, since if necessary, you can connect both a mouse and a keyboard to the TV via the same Bluetooth.

The disadvantages of the remote control include its small size. it is easy to lose it if the TV is used in a large house or apartment, it would also be nice to add a gyro sensor to track position in space and easier control.

Image quality of TV Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5)

The LED matrix built using VA technology is capable of displaying a picture in 4K format, while the image is decently detailed. Interpolation of 720p content looks good, artifacts are almost invisible.

Viewing angles are standard for this type of matrix and are 178 degrees horizontally and 178 vertically. Color distortion is low when viewed from an angle.

As for the color reproduction, we note that they are a little oversaturated, the TV works quite confidently at sunset scenes with soft tonal transitions. The picture is bright and rich, and the built-in image processing aLGorithms show up insignificantly (the picture looks the way it should look), unlike many TV competitors. Note also that this TV supports high dynamic range (HDR10) content. The uniformity of the backlighting of the screen is at an average level, without pronounced dips and spots.

4K video from an external media player is displayed confidently, even dynamic scenes are reproduced without any particular complaints.

The appearance of a smart TV Xiaomi

Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) cannot be called thin. The LCD panel is complemented by an impressive build-up with connection interfaces and an integrated power supply. And yet, despite the impressive dimensions, the front of the TV with a huge panel, rather thin frames and a metal frame of the case looks just fine. Screen coating is semi-gloss and fingerprints, as well as glare from light sources are not noticeable.

But the plastic of the back panel did not impress, it looks cheap and is not very pleasant to the touch.

There is no stand as such, the package includes two metal legs of the spacer with rubberized inserts, which provide acceptable stability. Considering this, as well as the not very presentable rear panel, the ideal option would be to hang the TV on the wall, there are, of course, holes for the VESA bracket here.

All the connectors and connections of the TV are traditionally located in the back. Xiaomi was not greedy, and everything you need is here: 3 USB-inputs, 3 HDMI ports, antenna connector, PCMCIA jack, LAN, optical and audio connectors for external acoustics. Of the interfaces, we also note the presence of built-in Wi-Fi (which is important. dual-band, with support for 2.4 and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth.

But the location of the ports is another drawback. Assembled into the already mentioned “build-up”, which, in turn, is located exactly in the center, they are not so easily accessible, especially if you hang the TV on the wall or move it close to it. There is also no automatic switching when a new signal source is connected. Note also that the TV supports USB drives with FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file systems, while there are no problems with Cyrillic names of files and folders.

Localization for the Russian market is excellent. Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) is equipped with a tuner that accepts analog and digital signal of terrestrial and cable broadcasting. But switching between TV channels is leisurely. about 3 seconds.

Review of smart TV Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5): hit 4K prices

Nearly ideal for those looking for an inexpensive large-screen TV with 4K support

This year, several well-known smartphone manufacturers at once decided that it was time to move from small to large forms, and took up TVs. Why would they? It’s easy to guess.

TV has long ceased to be a dull “box” for news and talk shows, turning into a universal screen on which we watch videos from Youtube, movies and TV shows, and also play games, show photos and launch applications. Is this different from a smartphone? But not very. Well, except that the screen is bigger.

Let’s see how he can surprise us.

Review of smart TV Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) in one paragraph

The popularity that Xiaomi Mi 4S 55 (L55M5) gained immediately after entering the Russian market looks deserved. A few shortcomings of the TV are more than offset by a good quality matrix with a large diagonal, a wide range of connection interfaces, user-friendliness of the interface, and most importantly, the low cost of a Xiaomi smart TV. In this sense, our hero has no competitors in the Russian market.

  • nice design with metal finish;
  • good color rendering;
  • decent built-in speaker system.
  • poor port allocation;
  • rear panel finish is not aesthetically pleasing.

Connecting and setting up a TV box Xiaomi Mi Box S

TV box on the Android TV 8.1 operating system is an excellent alternative to the built-in Smart TV and allows you to significantly expand the functionality of the TV, turning it into a real home multimedia center with the ability to work on the Internet. One of the best Smart TV box implementations. Xiaomi Mi TV Box S (this is the international version of Mi Box 4).

The 2018 Box with Android TV support, voice control and 4K HDR playback features high performance. The device works on a 4-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory are available, this is enough to perform the tasks for which the equipment is designed.

The Xiaomi Mi Box S prefix, in addition to watching TV, makes it possible to work with various applications and network resources, and allows, including playing, for which many people need a prefix. The interface, services, software, control, etc. in the Android TV OS are sharpened for use on TVs, for this reason, many were attracted by this device model. At the same time, in order to use the capabilities of the Smart-set-top box to the fullest, it is important to configure it correctly.

How to install Aptoide TV browser

The need to install Aptoide is due to the fact that through it you can then easily install programs that you will not find in the Play Market for a set-top box. Installing the Aptoide TV browser on the Mi Box S involves downloading the software to a USB flash drive, which then needs to be inserted into the TV box, and then open and run the application. With it you can watch HD movies and other content for free.

Detailed instructions for installing Aptoide TV on the Xiaomi Mi Box S media player:

Usually, there are no problems with installing the browser, but in some cases the system may not see the external drive or freeze, which may be due to insufficient memory on the device. Free up space by deleting unnecessary data.

Full customization of Mi Box

Setting up the Xiaomi Mi Box is easy. Even an inexperienced user can follow the instructions. A prerequisite is to first connect the set-top box to the TV and organize a stable connection to the Internet. You also need a Google account to set up your device. If it is not there, you will need to create.

Full customization of the Xiaomi Mi Box S involves the following steps:

  • After turning on the Smart-box from the remote control, a welcome message will appear on the screen.
  • Choose a language from the list of available languages, in the global version there is Russian.
  • The system will offer options for setting up. you can use a mobile device based on Android or a standard control panel.
  • In the first case, the devices are synchronized using a verification code, after which the set-top box will automatically copy the accounts and connect to the Internet, then, if everything went well, the main menu of the Android launcher will open.

  • Finally, the system will notify the user about the offered features, including the presence of Chromecast (thanks to the technology, you can stream content from smartphones, tablets or laptops to the TV).
  • The main menu of the Android launcher will open, where a selection of content from different applications will be available.

Installing Applications

The Android TV operating system installed on the device is tailored for the TV and control by the remote control, as well as by voice (voice search works in all applications).

Among the preinstalled software, there is the only useful tool. Play Market. The app store, by the way, is also different from the usual Play Market for Android, there are programs optimized for Android TV. Not in abundance, of course, but in sufficient quantity.

Xiaomi TV Mi TV 32″ 44″ 55″ DEMO, installation, user guide, unbox, function, how to use

How to install applications

Installing programs is done in a standard way. we go to the Play Market and enter the name of the required software in the search bar using the virtual keyboard or using the voice assistant (launched from the on-screen menu or from a button on the remote control). Then everything follows the old scheme: select from the list of applications in the results output and click “Install”.

You can manage to download the APK file to your computer and send it to Google Drive, then copy it to the console’s memory and install it. Alternatively, you can also use a USB flash drive to transfer data. Of course, in order not to bother so much every time you need software that is not in the Play Market and to fully use Xiaomi Mi Box S, you need to install a browser.

How to connect to TV

The Xiaomi Mi Box S media player comes with a remote control, power adapter and HDMI cable. Included with the device is also an instruction with illustrations, but there are no explanations in Russian, so many will need an additional guide on connecting and configuring the set-top box.

The set-top box is connected to the TV set using an HDMI cable, the corresponding connector must be present on the TV. If the device does not have an HDMI port, you need to take care of purchasing an HDMI-AV converter in advance (the device is not provided with this model of the media player).

Let’s take a step-by-step look at how to connect Mi Box S to a TV:

  • Both devices must be de-energized (remove all plugs from sockets).
  • Connect the coaxial cable supplied with the Mi Box S. Smart set-top box. Insert one end of the cord into the corresponding port on the media player, the other into the HDMI connector on the TV.
  • In the case when the TV set is old and does not have an HDMI connector, you can use an HDMI-AV converter. Then with the help of “tulips” we connect the adapter, then we connect the set-top box via the HDMI cable.
  • We turn on both devices. A welcome splash screen appears.

For the equipment to function, it is necessary to provide communication not only between the media player and the TV, you should also provide the set-top box with access to the network using a wired or wireless connection method (this model does not have a LAN connector, but if you wish, you can connect via cable using a USB-LAN adapter ). Batteries or rechargeable batteries must be purchased for the remote control, as the remote control will be required during work.

Features of IPTV settings

To watch interactive TV in live mode, you will also need to install the appropriate software that supports the playlist format. IPTV Pro, Lazy IPTV, Peers.TV. This can be done using the Aptoide functionality.

Downloading and installing any of the programs is performed as standard, no additional settings are required. All that remains is to load the appropriate playlist into the application by specifying the URL of the TV channel list or by opening a file previously downloaded to the device (usually in the M3U format, but the file may have another extension, the main thing is that the format is supported). In addition, in-app feeds are available.
