How to restore iPhone from copy

How to Recover Deleted Photos on iPhone from iTunes Backup

Any photos that have been “permanently deleted” from your iPhone library can also be easily restored from an iTunes backup. This is done in almost the same way as in the case of iCloud, but there are some nuances.

The obvious advantage of restoring via iTunes is that all your backups will be stored on your computer in a dedicated folder. For Windows computers, this folder is located at C: \ Users \ username \ AppData \ Roaming \ Apple Computer \ MobileSync \ Backup \. And for MacOS, backups are most often stored here: X: \ Users \ username \ Library \ Application Support \ MobileSync \.

The disadvantage of this method is that you need to periodically make backups in iTunes yourself. This is so that the most complete version of the copy is saved on the computer.

So, in order to restore photos to iPhone using a backup in iTunes, you need:

  • Check for backup.
  • Connect iPhone to your computer using a cable or using a wireless connection.
  • Launch iTunes on your computer.
  • Check that iTunes detects your iPhone, for this, the smartphone icon above the left sidebar of the iTunes taskbar should become active and you will need to click on it.
  • In the “Backups” area, make sure that the checkbox is on the “This computer” item, and then on the right, click the “Restore from a copy” button.
  • iTunes will open a window for you with a selection of available backups and all you need to do is select the appropriate one.

What to do if iPhone backup session crashes

Sometimes during the process of recovering information on the iPhone, the following inscriptions appear:

  • “Unable to migrate backup”;
  • “Error in creating a backup copy”;
  • “Failed to create a backup”.

Experts identify a number of reasons due to which a similar situation may arise:

  • outdated software. If you do not update the iTunes application for a long time, the old software will start giving errors and not allowing copies to be created (you need to update the program before starting the process);
  • defective USB cable. The source of the problem can be either a broken cord or an attempt to connect through a non-original wire;
  • instability of the Internet. Continuous speed hops or intermittent communication interruptions will cause the system to fail to execute the procedure;
  • oversupply of copies. Too many duplicates are negatively perceived by the OS, to normalize the work, you need to remove irrelevant ones;
  • the problem of the device itself. Non-working or outdated software, minor mechanical damage to the motherboard or processor are source of device failure.

If the user does not find the source that led to the disorder, he needs to check all the above factors step by step. If there are no results, a system reboot remains, which will restart the processes running in the background.

Inability to create a backup

Important! These actions allow the procedure to be carried out in 90% of cases. If all else fails, you need to contact the nearest service center for professional help.

Recovery without a computer

If the computer is not at hand, it does not turn on, or you cannot connect an iPhone to it, then try resetting all settings through the device’s settings. As a result of this operation, you will get a clean smartphone without settings and user information, so be sure to make a backup before resetting. If the smartphone turns on normally:

  • Go to basic settings.
  • Go to the “Reset” menu.
  • Select the erase mode for settings and content.

It is not necessary to delete custom files. If your iPhone turns on, you can fix it with a simple factory reset. In this case, the user’s personal data will remain intact.

Recovery order

To restore iPhone, you need to enter Recovery Mode. It’s easy to do:

  • Connect the USB cable to your computer. Do not connect your smartphone yet.
  • Turn off your iPhone. Hold down the Home button and, while holding it, connect your smartphone to the computer. The device will boot up and the iTunes icon and USB cable will appear on the screen. Recovery mode activated, you can reset iPhone to factory state (deleting settings and content) or flashing the device.

When iPhone is ready to roll back and fix errors, click the “Restore” button.

iTunes will independently find the current firmware version and install it on the smartphone, returning it to the state in which it was immediately after purchase.

DFU operation

If iPhone recovery does not work in Recovery Mode, then you need to enter the device into DFU mode. This mode is used when there are software errors. for example, when the iPhone will not turn on. DFU mode works at a hardware level, so it helps to perform a factory reset even in the most difficult cases. To enter DFU mode:

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Press and hold Power and Home for 10 seconds.
  • When you count to 10, release Power while continuing to hold the Home button.

It is difficult to enter DFU mode the first time, as nothing changes on the screen. If the recovery mode detects itself with the iTunes icon, then the phone does not seem to turn on in DFU. Therefore, you need to look at the computer screen where iTunes is running. As soon as the iPhone enters DFU mode, a notification will appear in iTunes informing that the program has detected the device in recovery mode, and you need to reset all settings and content to continue working with your smartphone.

If you need to install a different firmware, then hold down Shift and click “Restore”. An explorer will appear, through which you need to specify the path to the previously downloaded firmware.

Recovery after a reset

If you need to restore your iPhone after resetting all settings and deleting content, then you won’t be able to do this without a backup. The presence of a backup file with information stored in the device’s memory is the main point that you need to check before performing a reset. After iPhone is rolled back to factory state, all personal data of the user is erased from it.

Create a backup before factory reset:

  • Connect iPhone to Computer.
  • Launch iTunes. Open the page of the connected device.
  • On the Browse tab, find the Backups field. See when the last copy was made to see if it is up to date. If not, click “Create a copy now”.

When you reset your iPhone, it will be as good as new, with no content or settings left on it. To get all the information back, you need to connect the device to your computer and restore from a backup via iTunes. Choose the most recent backup, as it contains the most relevant information.

You can also restore all settings after a reset through iCloud, provided that you have stored backups on the cloud. In this case, when setting up the iPhone, you need to select the “Restore a copy from iCloud” option and specify the appropriate backup.

IPhone recovery step by step

Restoring iPhone is a standard operation to return an Apple smartphone to a working state after various failures. Unsuccessful firmware, incorrect jailbreak, incorrect iOS update. if you know how to restore an iPhone, you can fix almost any malfunction that occurs during the operation of this device.

Recovery problems

If after a normal recovery the phone does not turn on, then it makes sense to put it into DFU mode and try to restore it again via iTunes. This time you should not trust iTunes: download the official firmware and select it in the explorer window by holding Shift and clicking on the “Restore” button.

Sometimes the TinyUmbrella utility helps to solve the problem that the smartphone does not turn on after a factory reset via iTunes. This program has an “Exit Recovery” button. If the iPhone does not turn on after the recovery, you need to select it in the TinyUmbrella window and click “Exit Recovery”.

If, when connected to iTunes, the iPhone turns on normally, but does not recover, but goes into standby mode, then the first step is to try to restart the device.

  • Hold down the Power and Home buttons.
  • Wait for the device to boot back up.
  • Connect your smartphone to your computer and try to restore again.

If the wait drags on again, try removing the SIM card from the device. The next step is to put the iPhone into DFU mode and restore with the firmware that you downloaded yourself.

If software methods, cable replacement and connection to another computer do not clear the message “Waiting for iPhone”, then you should contact the service center for a solution. Waiting too long may be due to a breakdown of the power controller, damage to the battery, or other mechanical problems.
