When you install any program, it copies its files in one or more of these folders. When you delete it from your computer, the dei.check usually deleys these files. However, it should be noted that the settings are not always deleted. Often a deinstal leaves files with the user’s settings and personal data even after the application is removed. In this case, you just need to install the application again and all the settings will return automatically.

If the deinstal diverted the system well, then you can try to go through these folders any of the file recovery programs (I described them in the article Restoration of data after formatting) and save data for subsequent use. It should be remembered that it will not be possible to restore the Windows application with a simple recovery of files-you still need a new installation, but on top of the newly installed program you can record saved files-this in 70-80% of cases restores the settings of the program.

Program Files in this folder of the program settings are usually not stored. It is designed to store executable files. But just in case, you can restore the folder with a remote program and copy it into a temporary folder.

My doCumbs XP: Documents and Settings \ User \ My Documents Vista/7: Users \ User \ Documents My Documents, in theory, should not store any program settings. its task is to store user documents. to store user documents. However, some applications strive to “put” their files with settings there. Just in case, we look at if there are files of the program you are interested in and save them.

XP: Documents and Settings \ User \ Application Data Vista/7: Users \ User \ Appdata \ Roaming Files from this folder are part of moved profiles (Roaming Profiles, Per-User). Some programs store data here in the calculation that the data will move along with the user profile. Properly written applications usually store information about the settings here, so we pay special attention to this folder, restore everything that can and copy in the temporary storage.

User \ Local Settings \ Application Data XP: Documents and Settings \ User \ Local Settings Vista/7: Users \ User \ Appdata \ Local stored temporary and large files (temporary, cache, the other worker) The settings are usually kept in this folder, but just in case, check the folder.

All users \ Application Data XP: Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data Vista/7: ProgramData in this folder you can store files that are common for all users of the computer, for example, a general database, a set of general documents, a clipart and T.D. In this folder, data setting data may be stored if the uniform settings are set for all computer users during installation. But even in this case, personal settings are not stored here.

Unfortunately, I have to upset you here. it is impossible to restore data deleted from the registry (or rather, possibly, but only from a backup created as part of the “recovery point”).

It only saves that when removing the application, deinstallors rarely clean the register (which is why the register of the “old” Windows is so “swelling”, increasing several times in size).

So, we looked at all the folders, restored everything that you can and copied the restored files into the temporary folder.

Now you need to re.install the program, and then carefully transfer all the restored files to those folders where they were (you remembered their location?)

In 7 cases out of 10 during these manipulations, the application settings are restored. I repeatedly transferred programs from one computer to another (for example, FTP. how much passwords you need to remember and drive with handles. it becomes really scary!)

Unfortunately, recovery does not always succeed. if the data was stored in the register, then only the general restoration of the system by a certain date can help out.

Of course, here you can “stir”. copy the corresponding branches of the register, then restore the system again and import stored branches into the register, but this already smacks of a kind of sophisticated perversion. There are usually not so important settings to spend so much effort on their restoration.

However, as I already wrote at the beginning of this article, with the advent of Windows 7, everything became much easier.
