How to Reinstall Windows on a Computer

For various reasons, sometimes you need to reinstall Windows. And sometimes, if you need to do this on a laptop, novice users may experience various difficulties associated with the installation process itself, installing drivers or other nuances that are unique to laptops. I suggest that you consider the reinstallation process in detail, as well as some approaches that may allow you to reinstall the OS without any hassle at all.

Reinstall Windows with built-in tools

In my opinion, this is the best way, but it is not always possible to use it. Quite often, coming to a computer repair call, I see that everything on the client’s laptop, including the hidden recovery partition on the hard drive, was deleted in order to install a pirated one Windows 7 Ultimate, with built-in driver packs or subsequent driver installation using Driver Pack Solution. This is one of the most unreasonable actions of users who consider themselves “advanced” and thus want to get rid of laptop manufacturer programs that slow down the system.

How to Reinstall Windows on a Computer

Notebook recovery program example

If you have not yet reinstalled Windows on your laptop (and didn’t call unfortunate masters) and it has the exact operating system with which it was purchased, you can easily use the recovery tools, here are ways to do it:

  • For laptops with Windows 7 of almost all brands, the Start menu contains recovery programs from the manufacturer, which can be identified by name (contains the word Recovery). By launching this program, you will be able to see various recovery methods, including reinstalling Windows and bringing the laptop to its factory state.
  • Almost on all laptops, immediately after switching on, on the screen with the manufacturer’s logo, at the bottom there is text which button to press in order to proceed with recovery instead of loading Windows, for example: “Press F2 for Recovery”.
  • On laptops with Windows 8 installed, you can go to “Computer Settings” (you can start typing this text on the Windows 8 start screen and quickly get into these settings). “General” and select “Delete all data and reinstall Windows”. As a result, Windows will be reinstalled automatically (although there may be a couple of dialog boxes), and all the necessary drivers and pre-installed programs will be installed.

Thus, I recommend reinstalling Windows on laptops as described above. There are no advantages for various assemblies like ZverDVD compared to the preinstalled Windows 7 Home Basic. And there are plenty of shortcomings.

Nevertheless, if your laptop has already undergone inept reinstallations and there is no recovery partition anymore, then read on.

How to reinstall Windows on a laptop without a recovery partition

First of all, we need a distribution with the right version of the operating system. A CD or flash drive with it. If you already have one, then fine, if not, but there is an image (ISO file) with Windows. You can write it to disk or create a bootable USB flash drive (for detailed instructions, see here) The process of installing Windows on a laptop is not very different from installing on a regular computer. An example you can see in installation article Windows, which is suitable for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Drivers on the official website of the laptop manufacturer

Upon completion of the installation, you have to install all the necessary drivers for your laptop. In this case, I recommend not using various automatic driver installers. The best way is to download laptop drivers from the manufacturer’s website. If you have a Samsung laptop, then go to Samsung.com, if Acer. Then to acer.com, etc. After that, look for the “Support” or “Downloads” section and download the necessary driver files, and then install them one by one. For some laptops, the driver installation procedure is important (for example, Sony Vaio), and there may also be some other difficulties that you will have to deal with yourself.

After installing all the necessary drivers, you can say that you reinstalled Windows on the laptop. But, once again, I note that the best way is to use the recovery partition, and when it is not there, install “clean” Windows, and not “builds” in any way.

Hello, I want to download the Windows installer to a USB flash drive and install it on another computer. Can you tell me where the Windows installer is located on the laptop?

02.20.2017 at 10:33

You won’t succeed. Those. If the laptop is with the original OS, then the installation files are there on a hidden partition, but it’s better not to install it from another computer from there. Download the ISO image of the desired version of Windows from the official Microsoft website https://remontka.Pro/download-windows-7-8-10-original-iso-microsoft/

As I understand it, you have Windows 7. There is another way:
1. Download the original ISO in the right edition as follows: https://remontka.Pro/download-windows-7-8-10-original-iso-microsoft/
2. Install (the key will pass during installation).
3. When activation fails (and it may not pass after installation for OEM keys), use activation by phone. It works.

Hello. There is a Lenovo g580 laptop with preinstalled win 8. How do I upgrade to win 10 while retaining my license? Thanks in advance.

11/17/2017 at 09:02

The second way is to look at the key from UEFI using a program such as ShowKeyPlus, download the ISO image (or make a bootable USB flash drive) from the official Microsoft website, use the key during installation.

On the laptop a bunch of hidden sections. Which of them can be deleted? I want to install win 10 cleanly.

11/17/2017 at 08:33

It depends on the sections. In general, ideally, do not touch all sections at the beginning of the disk, i.E. Only systemic and subsequent. The one that you have gigabyte for 10-30 hidden (if any) is a backup of the system from the manufacturer, it can come in handy: https://remontka.Pro/laptop-factory-reset/
And if there is none of this and only 100-500 MB partitions, then in general you can demolish everything, they will be re-created.

The screen on the laptop is broken and the keyboard is faulty, is it possible to use the key from the win 7 OS installed there on another laptop without an OS?

01/10/2018 at 09:45

You can try, but not the fact that it works. But: if you use this key when installing Win 10 on another laptop, then the probability is higher.

01/22/2018 at 21:13

But in fact, the recovery section, what is it at all? That is, I understand correctly when buying a laptop, the disk is already partitioned and this section contains all the information for recovery?

01/23/2018 at 08:38

For most laptops, yes, as you described.

01/24/2018 at 20:22

Hello. I have a laptop preinstalled with win. 8.1. I need to reinstall on windows 10 with editing disk partitions. Those. I have 1TB rail. I need to break one section into the system, the second into a file wash. Tell me how to do it. On the laptops there was no experience with reinstallation, so I ask for help, I’m afraid to squeeze it.
And, yes, I forgot, if possible, so that the license still remains

01/25/2018 at 10:22

Hello.
In general, the plan in your case is this, most likely it will be optimal (but still at your own peril and risk, I can not take something into account accidentally for your specific installation, but in 95% of cases everything will be ok):
1. We boot from a flash drive with 10-koy (required in EFI mode. If you see an error that installation is not possible, since the GPT drive means booted into Legacy), at the stage of selecting the partition to install, ONLY format the partition with the current 8.1, do not touch the remaining partitions , do not break anything.
2. Select this formatted section, click “next” we go through the entire installation process.
3. After installation, already in Windows itself we select the necessary space in the “disk management”. See https://remontka.Pro/razbit-hdd/

Why I recommend that you do nothing more in the first step: because independent actions to separate at this stage can cause 10 to push “the wrong partitions” of the system partitions, or spoil the factory recovery partition, which may come in handy.

01/25/2018 at 11:09

Thanks for the help. And I can’t install from the disk?

01/26/2018 at 10:27

Yes, you can. I’m just writing about a flash drive, because they usually put it on them, and there’s no difference.

01/26/2018 at 10:38

Thanks for the answer. But there is 1 more question. I can definitely say at the beginning of the installation I need to change the size of the logical drive. Still, it’s better not to do this, as I understand it? What could be the consequences, do not tell?

01/26/2018 at 10:45

Why is it necessary during installation? Believe me, it is better to do it more practical and with less chance of unforeseen things already in the installed Windows. It is as simple as during installation. Simply reduce the partition in disk management, and format the freed up area as a “file wash”.
If you start deleting / creating partitions at the installation stage, the problems may be as follows: automatically created partitions in places you do not need (which will interfere in the future and prevent the creation of which will not work), problems with the factory recovery image.

Hello, Lenovo laptop, without a drive, with two usb ports. Yesterday I reinstalled the OS, at first I could not install it, it gave an error about the GPT format disk, according to your article, I transferred it to MBR. The system got up, but I did not immediately notice that not one USB port is working, in general. And now I can’t install the driver. And the wired drive does not see. And now I don’t know what to do, I want to reinstall it, through the BIOS I see both the USB flash drive and the drive, the OS boot menu exits, but when I select the necessary OS variant, it just loads what has already been installed, that is, the reinstallation does not work, it ejects. Sorry to be so messy, I hope I clearly described my problem, otherwise I’m not a connoisseur thanks for the answer.

Hello my dear readers!

If you have ever installed a new operating system, then most likely you just updated it. For example, from the “seven” to the “eight” and so on. Yesterday I tried to install the OS from scratch, and I had to do this through the BIOS setup. The matter requires attention, but everyone should know these aspects. Today I will tell you how to reinstall Windows through the BIOS, and in different ways and from different media.

The content of the article

What is the BIOS and where does it come from?

In simple words, BIOS is a set of small programs that control the operation of your hardware in a computer. It is on any PC, on a stationary, on a laptop. Unaware of the purpose of this or that section in it, I strongly do not recommend changing anything on it myself. In the most deplorable case, you just can burn iron in your car.

How to enter BIOS

Everything is very simple. This is done without a disk and flash drive. First you need to restart your laptop. Or your stationary PC. As soon as the motherboard boot screen appears, you will see this picture.

Pay attention to the line that I indicated with an arrow. There is a default key DEL, and if it is pressed at the time of the appearance of such a screen, then you will immediately get into the BIOS. However, there may be other keys, for example: DELETE, F10, F11, F12, F1, F2, F3, Esc. Over, in some motherboards you can call up these settings not with just one key, but with a combination of those. Here are the most common ones: CtrlAltEsc, CtrlAltIns, CtrlAltS, CtrlAltDel, CtrlAlt, FnF1, CtrlIns, CtrlAltEnter. You should have this window.

If this did not happen, then something you did wrong. Try again.

Preparation for installation

Before installing the OS, you first need to download and burn it. Which version of Windows you prefer is up to you. I will only give links to distributions at:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10

To download images you need a program for downloading torrents. Just install it and download the distribution online. If this method of downloading is not convenient for you, I suggest an alternative. On this page there is software that will help you download Windows and burn it to disk, just scroll the page to the bottom and click here.

If you still decide to use torrents, then to record ISO you will need another softinka. UltraISO. It will help you create a boot disc or flash drive. Install it and open it.

Imagine that you decided to install the operating system from disk (do not forget to prepare it in advance). Open UltraISO and select the image of the downloaded system in it.

You can do this through the menu “File“.

Everything that is on the OS image should be displayed in the program window itself.

Next, insert a blank disc into your optical drive. Make sure that there is not a single scratch on it, otherwise it simply will not be readable. Then in the menu “tools“Click here on this line.

You will see a window with a choice of drive, burn speed and file of the OS itself.

Then just press the “Write down“And wait for the completion. That’s all, you just created a boot disk yourself.

Insert it immediately into the USB port and scan for viruses using AVG AntiVirus Free. Next, do the same with UltraISO until you select the “tools“. Now you select the section “self-loading“And there click to record the image of the hard drive.

Then in the window that appears, in the line Dick Drive, select the USB flash drive and press notWrite down“And first”Format“.

In the appeared tablet select “Yes“And wait for the end. And now you can start recording. Once the process is completed, you can remove the USB flash drive and proceed to the installation.

BIOS setup for booting from media

Now configure the system. We go into the BIOS. You already read how to do this from above. The point is, dear readers, that BIOS itself can be of two types. Award and AMI. And in each of them the setting will be different. I wrote instructions for you so that you don’t get confused.

Award BIOS. Tune to boot from disk

As soon as the blue settings screen appears, click the second line where it says. Advanced BIOS Features.

Then in the second line (First Boot Device) click Enter and choose your optical drive.

In the second line (Second Boot Device) do the same, but select the hard drive (Hard Disk).

Next, just press the key F10 and press Enter. Be sure to do so, otherwise the settings will not be saved.

AMI BIOS. Tune to boot from disk

Here the principle is the same, but the course of action is slightly different and the interface is more pleasant.

We go to the tab “Loading“(Boot).

In the first line we expose our drive, and in the second hard drive. All click F10.

Otherwise, everything is the same. Reboot the PC. But be sure to insert bootable media.

Installation process

This is the final stage. Now that your bootable media has booted, you will see an operating system installer dialog box with a choice of language. Next, you will have this window with a choice of installation type. Choose a complete installation.

Then select the partition of the hard drive, format it and click “next”.

The system will do the rest itself, you just have to enter your username, select a region, configure the Internet and download the Dr Web Cureit antivirus. And that’s it, now you can independently install the operating system through BIOS. Congratulations!

Conclusion
