How to lock apps on the iPhone (a reasonable way!)

It’s no secret that, functionally, iOS lags behind Android in many ways. There’s no doubt that iOS 14 offers many improvements for iPhone users, including improved home screen customization, new widgets for iOS 14, and more. But it’s still missing some basic features. For example, there is no easy way to block apps on the iPhone. These days, many apps, such as WhatsApp, offer built-in app locking mechanisms. But it would have been better if Apple had integrated this feature in the first place, allowing us to lock any app we want. If you desperately want to lock your iOS apps, here’s how you can lock apps on your iPhone.

Lock iPhone apps with a password

If you want to use a password to lock your iPhone apps, you need to do the following. Keep in mind that since Apple does not offer an app locking mechanism, this method is a workaround, but it works quite well.

Go to “Settings.”. “Screen Time” on your iPhone and set “Screen Time”. You can also turn on Touch ID or Face ID at this point.

Now click “App Limits” and then “Add Limit”.

Select the app you want to block by first tapping the category (left image) and then selecting the app (right image). For example, let’s say I want to block Snapchat. To do this, I will click on the category “Social Networks” and select “Snapchat” from the list.

Then click “Next”, set the time limit to 1 minute and click “Add” in the top right corner. Make sure the switch next to “Block at the end of the limit” is on.

The app you choose will be blocked after 1 minute of use. One minute costs almost nothing for apps you open several times a day, such as Snapchat, in my case. So, this method is a pretty decent workaround for blocking iPhone apps. Once the app is locked, you will need to enter a screen time access code to access it.

Note. The screen time access code is different from your iPhone password. Make sure you remember the password you set for screen time on your iPhone, because resetting the password for screen time is difficult. You can check out our handy guide at the attached link if you can think of anything.

Lock apps on your iPhone using Siri shortcuts

In addition, you can also lock iPhone apps with Siri shortcuts. In addition, you can also do some fun tricks with them.

Open the shortcuts on your iPhone and create a new shortcut.

Click “Add Action”, look for “Ask for Input” and select it.

You can choose between “Text”, “Number”, “URL”, etc. Д. In this example, I will use “Number” as the input. Also, add a password prompt by pressing “Hint” and entering whatever you want.

Now add one more action. Find “If” and add it to your shortcut. Click on “Condition” and select “is.”.

Bioprotect. Lock Apps with Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor of the iPhone 5s!

Now click on “Number” again in the first action and enter the password we want. In this example, I’m using 1234 as my password (you shouldn’t use such weak passwords).

We have now created a basic framework for locking the app. Let’s go ahead and finish.

Add a new “Open App” action to the shortcut and drag it between the “If” and “Otherwise” boxes.

Select the application you want to block. For the sake of this tutorial, I’m going to lock the Calculator app.

And voila, this shortcut works. What will happen now is that the shortcut will ask us for our password, and if we enter the correct password (1234), it will open the calculator. Otherwise it won’t do anything.

But that’s not interesting enough, really? If someone tries to open our secret calculator app, we need to know who committed the crime. So, let’s add traps here.

Add one more action to your shortcut. Find “Take Photo” and change the camera “Rear” to “Front”.

Click “Show more” and turn off the “Show preview from camera” switch.

How to set a password on an iPhone app with iOS 12

Ios 12, among other innovations, got the “Screen Time” feature. It is originally intended to control how long you use the programs on your iPhone or iPad. The function allows you to set the amount of time allowed to use a particular application. If the time limit is exhausted, the program can be opened only after entering the pre-set password.

This is exactly the trick we talked about above. So, in order to put a password on the application on iPhone you need to do the following:

  • Turn on “Screen time” function in the corresponding item of iPhone settings.
  • Set the desired password by clicking on the “Use password code” button.
  • Click on the graph that shows the statistics of iPhone app usage.
  • Select an app from the list of apps.
  • In the window that opens, click “Add limit” and set the time of use to 1 minute.
  • Press “Add” button to confirm the changes.
  • Profit! Password is set

You can also add a password for a group of apps, which iOS keeps in separate categories (Games, Entertainment, Social networks, Performance, etc.).Д.). To do this, go to “App limits”: Settings. Screen time. App limits. Press “Add limit” and select applications from available categories.

The icons of the programs for which the limit is set and the password is set will be dimmed on the iPhone desktop and highlighted with an hourglass icon. This means that you will need to enter a password to run the program.

Note that in order to put a password on a program, your iPhone must have iOS 12 or newer firmware version. Accordingly, this feature is available to owners of all supported iPhone models. From iPhone 5s to iPhone XS Max.

Of course, this method of setting a password to launch individual iPhone apps cannot be called a full-fledged solution. However, it is the only workable solution that can be used within the built-in iOS features.

Set a password on a particular application

In iOS 12 and newer, you can create certain time limits for working with apps. Unlocking applications is done by entering a passcode.

  • First we check that the “Screen Time” function is already activated.
  • Hit “Settings,” and then select “Screen Time.”.
  • After selecting “Use passcode” we set the access code.
  • In the statistics section, find the most popular program that you use frequently.
  • Set the limit by selecting the function “Add limit”.
  • Set the required period of use to 1 minute. To confirm the change, click “Add”.

Now, after exceeding the time limit of the application will be asked for a password.

Kaspersky Password Manager

Similar locking

As with apps, there are a few dozen different programs to set a password on folders. Each of them allows you to block free access to files within a directory in a certain way. One of the most common locking tools is Folder Lock, which you can download for free on the App Store.

After completing the installation of the application, the corresponding item will appear in the “Settings” menu, where you can select folders and the type of protection. The program also allows you to lock a number of other iPhone elements, including Settings, contact list and camera.
