How to use WhatsApp without an iPhone
In fact, the essence of the innovation is that now you don’t need an iPhone to run the desktop version of WhatsApp. So you can run WhatsApp on your computer without your phone. Here’s how to do it:
First, you need to join the test of the new feature
You need to connect to WhatsApp Web, as before, by scanning a QR code
After successfully activating WhatsApp Web, you will be able to put your iPhone away and not keep it around, as before, when the desktop version of the messenger did not work without the mobile. Although it does pull chats up from your smartphone, you no longer need it to make it work. And sending messages, making calls and other manipulations will use the Wi-Fi that your computer is connected to.
- First, you can now put away or even turn off your iPhone, and WhatsApp Web will continue to work;
- Secondly, WhatsApp on iPhone will not disconnect as before, but will continue to work on its own;
- Third, WhatsApp on your computer will not consume mobile traffic by using a Wi-Fi connection.
How to use messengers on a PC/laptop
I often see the following picture: a person is sitting in front of a PC or laptop, suddenly he hears a message signal on his smartphone, grabs the smartphone in his hand, reads the message, then answers even more, poking his fingers into the tiny smartphone keyboard. And he’s got a big monitor and a normal, full-size keyboard in front of him.
You ask a person like that: “And why don’t you put those messengers on your computer, because it’s much more convenient to use them?” He responds: “It’s like a computer? Are there any such things for computers??”Well, in response, you explain that they do exist, both in the form of browser versions, which are not as convenient, and in the form of normal client programs, which you can use. It’s a pleasure.
As a result, I decided to write this article for the “Basic Texts” section, which will talk about how to use various messengers on a personal computer (laptop).
But first, let’s answer the question of which messengers are the most popular among Russians.
Russians most often have several messengers installed on their smartphones at once (on average, four). In Russia, the most popular messengers are WhatsApp (installed by 83% of Russians), Viber (61%), Skype (53%) and Telegram (40%). Messenger is installed by 38% of Russians. However, the prevalence rate for the year has increased the most for WhatsApp (by 14 p. п.) and Telegram (by 15 p. п.). According to the survey, 25% of Russians use Telegram. The messenger remains popular, despite attempts to block it.
Thus, here are the top five most used messengers:
WhatsApp. 83% of Viber. 61% Skype. 53% Telegram. 40% Messenger. 38%
All of these messengers provide the ability to use them on a PC/laptop, well, let’s see how to do it.
For a long time, WhatsApp had only a browser-based version (WhatsApp Web), available for use on PCs. How it works?
You open the address https://web in your PC browser.whatsapp.com/. There appears a QR-code, which must be scanned in the WhatsApp application on your smartphone.
After that, the web version of WhatsApp will work in your browser, where you can read messages, reply, attach pictures/videos and so on.
Web version has some limitations compared to the smartphone version (in particular, you can’t send location), and it works strictly in conjunction with its smartphone app: if your smartphone is turned off (i.e. WhatsApp is unplugged), then the web version will not work.
However, since a certain point, WhatsApp has also had a more convenient version of. A full-fledged PC app (Windows and Mac). Download it here.
Externally, it is very similar to the browser version, but works as a separate application, that is located on the taskbar, which is much more convenient. However this version also requires the WhatsApp application to work on your smartphone: if the smartphone is switched off, WhatsApp won’t work on the PC.
Well, if you want to learn about the various interesting features of WhatsApp (smartphone app), then I refer you to my article “Useful tricks for using WhatsApp”.
There’s no web version, but there’s an app for Windows, Mac and Linux that you can get here.
After launching, the app will also give you a QR code and offer to scan it in the app on your smartphone.
After activation the application will work and, despite the fact that it is activated from the smartphone, once launched the application will not be connected with the smartphone in any way and even if the smartphone is switched off the application will still receive and send messages, which is very convenient (especially if you’ve lost your smartphone or left it at home for example). You won’t be without Viber at work).
With Skype everything is clear, this messenger was originally developed for use on PC, so it is almost certainly in your PC already installed. If you don’t have it installed for some reason, you can download the Windows/Mac/Linux version here.
Skype also has a special web version, but it’s only for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.
One of the most advanced and convenient messengers, which in addition to the usual, video and voice chats are widely used telegram news feeds.
Of course, if you work at a computer, it is much more convenient to use the PC version.
Telegram has two different web versions. Telegram WebK and Telegram WebZ.
And of course it has Windows/Mac/Linux apps which you can download here.
The PC version. is very handy and advanced, and it has many useful features.
And if you use this messenger, I recommend reading my article “Useful tricks of using Telegram”.
The messenger has not had a separate application for a long time: in fact, it could be used in the page in the browser (for which, incidentally, it makes sense to put a separate bookmark. It’s noticeably more convenient than chatting in pop-up windows.).
However, some time ago there were also separate applications. You can download Messenger for Windows from the MS Store, and the Mac app. from the Mac App Store.
The application is not very advanced, it has few features, but it is much more comfortable than using the messenger in a browser.
Messengers in the Windows taskbar
And I want to say: using special versions of messengers for PC/laptop, when you work at a PC/laptop, is much more convenient than constantly grabbing your phone to read what you have been written there and reply. Big screen, full keyboard. so why not use it, and the messengers themselves provide such an opportunity.
How to open Whatsapp on your Mac?
Apple devices are more secure, and you will have to do certain things differently to get the benefits that Android provides in a much easier way. That said, the new iPhone versions have great jailbreak protection. To transfer WA to PC, you follow roughly the same steps as when you transfer Whatsapp from your Android device to PC. You need to concentrate on some minor changes, which we told you about in detail.
For Mac, these steps involve downloading the desktop version of whatsapp. You can find the desktop version of Whatsapp on Google.
You need to download the executive file for your desktop from the Whatsapp website. There you will find the file for your PC/Mac. Since you are a Mac user, choose the Mac version and download it.
After downloading, you can launch the app. You will see a QR code on the screen. Take your phone, go to settings (top three dots) and select whatsapp web.
Scan the code and your Whatsapp conversations will move to the screen. It may take a few seconds, so don’t interrupt the process if it takes a while to load.
You can do the same by going to the web address.whatsapp.com, as we have said about Android devices. This is an alternative method that you can use for Apple devices. If you have an Android device (mobile) and a Mac PC, you can still transfer Whatsapp to your Mac device using this method.
Even for Android users, if you want to know how to download whatsapp on your laptop without resorting to the method of the online site, here’s how to do it.
How to use WhatsApp on a computer without a phone
While the innovation is still in beta testing, but is available to all users without exception in the release build of the application. That is, you don’t need to download a test version of WhatsApp to use the messenger on your computer without a smartphone. All you need to do is turn on the mode of using WhatsApp without a phone in the settings, and then open the desktop version of the messenger.
First, you need to join the beta-testing of the function of connecting to multiple devices
- In the drop-down menu, select “Tethered devices”;
- Click “Multi-Device Beta”;
- After that, select “Bind your device.”
Scan the QR code on your computer screen
That’s it, this is the end of your smartphone’s functions. Now you can use WhatsApp on your computer without a phone. If before, when using the desktop version of the messenger, the mobile app was not working, but now it will work, because the smartphone does not perform the role of the donor, and you can even take it somewhere else or just turn it off.
Interestingly, it is the chats associated with the device used to connect that are transferred to the computer. That is, if I connect to WhatsApp Web from an Android phone where I have more chats, they will all appear on my computer. And, if I use my iPhone as a donor, then the chats will be pulled up exactly those that are available on it.
Problems connecting to WhatsApp Web
To work correctly this version of the application requires a browser, such as Safari, Opera, Google Chrome. Phone and computer must be connected to the network. If the page has stopped loading, it is worth paying attention to the speed of the Internet. Sometimes it is not enough for the application to work.
Launching WhatsApp Web.
QR code is not displayed
After opening the desired page, the user often finds out that the QR code is missing. The reason is the incorrect work of the browser settings. Switching to incognito mode is considered a simple way to check. After that, WhatsApp Web is reopened.
The service is also disrupted by antivirus programs. They are temporarily deactivated, checking the functioning of the site. If the service works, you need to exclude “WhatsApp Web” from the list of blocked sites.
QR code of WhatsApp is visible, but not readable
If the code is displayed correctly and your phone can’t read it, it’s a question of the small size of the scanned area or a mobile device camera malfunction. The problem is solved by enlarging the tab with the online service.
To do this, go to the settings of the browser, select the desired scale with the left mouse button. You can call up the menu by holding down the CTRL key. Scaling the page with the mouse: It’s easier for your phone’s camera to scan the code.
WhatsApp Web doesn’t work on your computer
One of the great features of WhatsApp. is the ability to use the messaging service directly from any browser on your computer. You can simply scan the code on your computer from your phone, and you’re ready to use WhatsApp on your desktop or laptop.
Usually this feature works just fine and you shouldn’t have any problems with it. However, there are times when it glitches and just doesn’t work, no matter what you do. If you are already in a situation where WhatsApp Web is not working on your PC, you may want to consider using some of the methods below to fix the problem.
Make sure WhatsApp is working on your phone
The very first thing you should check. Is WhatsApp working on your mobile device. Make sure you can send and receive messages in the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.
If you’re having trouble sending or receiving messages, WhatsApp Web probably won’t work on your PC because it’s just a wrapper for the actual messaging app on your phone and relies entirely on the phone app.
Here are a few things you can do on your phone to fix WhatsApp problems:
Reactivate the WhatsApp web session
Sometimes switching your login and logout settings fixes the WhatsApp Web feature not working on your PC. It can be done easily, and all you need is access to your phone.
Go to WhatsApp Web in the browser on your PC.
When it boots, click on the three dots at the top and select “Exit” from the menu. You’ll sign out of your WhatsApp account on your PC.
Launch the WhatsApp app on your Android phone, tap the three dots in the top right corner and select WhatsApp Web, if it’s an iPhone go to settings and select WhatsApp Web. This will help you establish a connection with your computer.
The camera will open on your phone and you’ll be able to scan the QR code on WhatsApp Web. Use your phone to scan the code displayed on your computer screen.
Log back in to WhatsApp Web, and hopefully it will work without any problems.
Use incognito mode in your browser
The normal web browser window contains all your cache, cookies and other files. These files can sometimes interfere with WhatsApp.
The incognito window, on the other hand, does not use your existing cookies and site data, so it is recommended to try WhatsApp Web in it and see if it helps solve the problem.
If you’re a Chrome user, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select “New Incognito Window” or press the hotkey combination “CtrlShiftN”.
Firefox users should click on the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner and select “New Private Window” to open incognito mode or press the “CtrlShiftP” key combination.
Enter https://web.whatsapp.com in the address bar and press Enter.
Follow the normal login procedure to log into your WhatsApp account.
If the problem was caused by your browser data, incognito mode should fix it and you will no longer have a problem with WhatsApp Web on your PC.
The incognito window does its job, but once you close it, you will exit WhatsApp Web. You need to log in to your account every time you want to access it, which is both time consuming and annoying. Another way to solve the browser problem. Clear cookies in your browser.
Press “Advanced” on the next screen and choose “Clear browser history”.
Make sure that you are on the Basic tab. Select “All Time” from the “Time Range” menu. Then check the “Cookies and other site data” option and click “Clear Data”.
Click on the three horizontal lines at the top and select “Settings”.
Select “Privacy and Protection” from the left sidebar menu.
Click the “Delete Data” button in the right pane.
