First of all, let us remind you that the iPhone recovery procedure via DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade Mode) involves the deletion of all user data stored in the smartphone memory. Therefore if the device is somehow still working and you have the possibility to backup your data, then do it. It is also not difficult to exit the DFU mode, so even if you have forgotten to backup your data but have not yet started the reset procedure (to return to the factory settings) it is better to exit, make a backup and then start over.

So, re-save everything you can, then use the Lightning to USB cable to connect your smartphone to your Mac (or Windows-PC with iTunes) and then:

  • once and quickly press the “Increase volume” button (on the smartphone);
  • once and quickly press the “volume down” button;
  • press and hold down the side button for 10 seconds until the iPhone screen turns off;
  • as soon as the screen turns off, DO NOT STOP the side button immediately.

  • look at the computer screen if everything is done correctly, then in the iTunes window there will be a sign “iTunes has found the iPhone in recovery mode” the device is in DFU mode (the smartphone screen should not turn on, no logos and inscriptions should be displayed on it too).

  • once and quickly press the “Volume up” button;
