How to Make a Card on the Phone

The amount of information consumed by device users is growing. Many lack the internal memory of smartphones to store everything they need. Memory cards are in great demand, allowing you to increase the space on your smartphone. Often sd cards have a larger capacity than the internal memory.

Today we will tell you how to convert an SD card to the phone’s internal storage.

How to use an SD card as internal memory (Android 6 )

Set up SD card as internal storage on Android. This is a simple task. Please note that the SD card will be formatted during the process, so be sure to back up the data by copying it to your PC.

It is possible that the Adoptable Storage function is missing, even if the phone is running Android 6. The device manufacturer may have forcedly disabled this feature for security reasons.

However, there are command line methods that force the device to use the media as internal storage.

Here is the instruction for adapting the SD card as internal:

  1. Insert the SD card into your Android phone and wait until it is detected.
  2. Now open Settings.
  3. Scroll down and go to the “Storage” section (or Device Maintenance Memory).

  4. Click on the name of your SD card.
  5. Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen.
  6. Click on Storage Settings.
  7. Select the option Format as internal.
Click on “Erase and format” if you want to format the SD card as internal memory.
  8. If Android detects that your SD card is slow, Android will report it. Click OK to continue.
  9. You can start data migration now or do it later.
  10. Click Finish to complete the storage adaptation for your SD card.

Features of using SD-cards in smartphones

First of all, it is worthwhile to understand that the SD card does not replace the internal storage fully, but only expands its volume. Also, do not forget that such drives, being a foreign device, will inevitably work more slowly than “native” internal drive. The performance of SD cards will directly depend on the performance of the smartphone, and if the speed with the drive is incompatible with the speed of the device, then your smartphone simply will not accept this drive.

There is also one nuance associated with the transfer of data from a computer to a smartphone and vice versa. The fact is that your PC will see only one memory module and only one that is installed as the main one, despite the fact that in the settings of the smartphone itself, the internal storage and the SD card are separated. Among other things, some programs and data will be installed on “native” there is a storage medium for the phone, even if the SD disk is specified as the main one. Thus, you can fully use only the built-in memory module. Adding an SD card will not add volume to the main module, but only serve as an alternative to it.

Installing an SD card as the main memory of the device

To install the SD card as the main storage device, after installing and checking the compatibility of the media with your smartphone, go to the tab “Storage” in settings. There you will see that the card you inserted is now used as a removable drive. Next, you need to directly select the SD card, tap on three points in the upper right corner of the screen and go to sub-item “Settings”. Here you can already set the media as the main storage, having previously formatted it.

Please note that the process of linking the card to the smartphone as the main storage is irreversible without data loss, because the device, for security reasons, transfers data to the drive using encryption codes unique to a particular device. Thus, you lose the opportunity to use this SD-card with any other smartphones and read data from it as long as it is attached to the smartphone as the main drive.

These instructions are most relevant for Android 6, however, on later versions of the OS, the differences in the algorithm for installing the card are insignificant. On Android 9 you have to find the section in the settings “Storage”, which stores information about internal and external media. Then, by tapping on the SD card you need and going to its page, click on the menu button in the upper right. In it you will find a link to the repository settings, where you can install this repository as the default device or format it.

What to do if Adoptable Storage is not available

There are a number of smartphones on which these functions may not be available. For example, owners of devices from LG, as well as users of the Samsung Galaxy S7-S9 and Galaxy Note series, may encounter difficulties when trying to use an SD card as the main storage of information on a smartphone. On these smartphone models, there is also a way to install and format external memory as internal using ADB Shell. Be careful, this method is suitable only for experienced users, since it can pose serious problems with your smartphone, since it involves manually configuring the operating system through the command line.

After connecting a smartphone with an SD card, performing the necessary steps to install software, debugging via USB and launching the command line using software, to install an external media as internal, you must enter the following:

Copy or write a disk identifier that looks like disk: NNN, NN

Sm partition disk: NNN, NN private

Upon completing these steps, the card must be formatted, close the ADB Shell application, and on the smartphone in the storage settings section, go to the SD card and call up the menu by clicking on the three dots at the top of the screen and transfer data to the media from the smartphone. Without this step, data will continue to be installed on the internal drive. After that, the SD card should begin to be perceived by your smartphone as an internal memory device.

There is another way through which you can change the priorities for installing data on the phone is to use Root access rights through applications like Root Essentials, however this method is quite risky and is strictly contraindicated if you own the device on an old version of Android.

Save downloaded files from the Internet to a memory card

If you are using a Samsung phone with Android 9,

  1. Go to the Internet application.
  2. Tap on the “Options” item.
  3. Go to the “Settings” section.
  4. Tap on “Websites and Downloads”.
  5. Specify “Location for saving files.”
  6. Tap on the item “Memory card”.
  7. Settings applied.

Some devices do not have these settings. This is due to the fact that

  • You didn’t open the Internet application, but the Chrome browser or another third-party one.
  • The memory card is not readable or not provided in this mobile device.

SD card as internal memory on Samsung Galaxy

As I said earlier, device manufacturers can control this feature. Samsung has long disabled available storage on its Android devices. Reason: the company cannot control the speed of the device with this modification.

For testing, I inserted an SD card into the Galaxy S8 to see if anything had changed in the new interface in Android One. It turns out that no.

In addition, Samsung has created a corresponding web page which confirms that Galaxy tablets and phones do not support Adoptable Storage, as this will “reduce the overall performance” of the device.

However, it is rumored that Samsung will sooner or later implement this functionality on their devices.

Does Adoptable Storage work in 2020 on Android 9 and 10?

The adaptive storage feature was introduced in Android Marshmallow and is designed for Android devices with a small internal space. In the yard is 2020, and internal storage today is not such a significant problem. Nevertheless, we will check some devices for the possibility of formatting the memory card for the internal format. The function will be tested on Android 9 and Android 10.

For Android 9, I used Motorola and was able to use the “Format As Internal” options for the microSD card.

I installed the same microSD card on Nokia 8.1 running Android 10, but there was no suitable storage function there.

I have other Android 10 devices, but none of them have a microSD card slot. This is a regular problem that I am facing. In any case, I will try to test Adoptable Storage on other Android 10 devices and update the results here.

The days when the phone was an expensive luxury have long gone. Now, most of us have more than one phone.

A classic example of this situation is one phone for friends and family, another worker.

One just has to admit that wearing two phones is a little tiring (although this was not a burden before, but times are changing).

However, you can instead enable and use the second SIM card (of course, if the phone has a second slot).

Simply put, it allows you to use two phone numbers using one mobile phone. This can be done on Samsung, Lenovo, Meizu and everyone else.

Phones with 2 integrated SIM card slots

Almost all the latest models of mobile phones have a dual SIM function as a standard.

Under the hinged lid you can see two slots in which SIM cards are placed, and we can safely use both.

At the moment, many devices allow you to use both numbers simultaneously without switching from one to the other.

Here I will show how to enable the second SIM card on the Samsung Android 6.0.1, only at the beginning I recommend that you familiarize yourself with this entry. Otherwise you may not be able to enable both.

There we are talking about the fact that on many phones active at any given time, there can only be one of the cards.

Then, depending on the model of phone you are using, you may need to switch between them.

At the same time, it is still necessary to restart it in old phones if you want to enable the second SIM card. Newer ones allow you to select from the menu of the card and activate it “on the fly”, without rebooting.

How to enable the second SIM card slot on Samsung

To enable a 2 SIM card in the Samsung (in most others), go to the settings and click “SIM Manager”.

Then select Active Mode.

Next, specify the numbers for sim1 and sim2 to which the call will be forwarded.

Only this should not always be done. Therefore, I have recommended that you familiarize yourself with devices that have 2 SIM card slots.

It all depends on the built-in radio modules. Perhaps your phone has two independent ones, then you can do without forwarding.

Thank you for the attention. Success, but something doesn’t work, drop a line in the comments. We will solve the problem together.

Hello, when performing an active reception on 2 SIM cards on Samsung 3J, about 3 SIM wrote a failure when forwarding. Problem in sim card?

How to activate a spare phone number

Not all phones support the simultaneous activation of two SIM cards at once. Details here.

Galaxy a5 does not turn on the second SIM card

My active mode does not turn on

If the phone has 2 SIM cards, then not all of them can turn on the active mode on both.

My active mode does not turn on

Does not turn on on the second card, but the first one works?

My Samsung j2 prime bought a new one; everything was fine; two SIM cards worked and at some point it disappeared altogether from the settings of the “SIM card manager” service
What to do.

I did as you wrote a reset on Samsung galaxy j2 prime; it didn’t help; the phone didn’t show the SIM card manager

A similar problem. He worked for about a year with two SIM cards, then the SIM card manager disappeared from the menu altogether. Updated regularly. Reset failed. I rearrange the SIM card in slot2 works. Rearranging in slot1 works. That is, it is not a matter of hardware.

This may be a firmware glitch (you need to upgrade). You can try installing the SIM card manager from the play market.

I accidentally disconnected one SIM card. Now how to enable it

“Settings”. “Connection”. “SIM card manager.” click on disabled. Move the slider opposite “Enabled” (described for android 7, in other versions it might be a little different).

Active mode does not open Th can do advise

I definitely did not understand the essence of the issue, but there are smartphones that although they have two SIM card slots, only one SIM can be active.

Disconnected one SIM card on samsung s8, now I can’t connect help

The essence of the issue is not entirely clear. If there is a “disable” button, then after clicking it should become “Enable”.

Hey. I turned off the second SIM card on Samsung j5, now there is no this switching slider. I can’t turn it on (If I swap SIM cards in places, then both work, but on the contrary, no. Will it already be so? Thanks
