Starting with BlackBerry OS 10.2.1, you are presented with the ability to install.apk files, that is, application files used by Android, directly on your phone. This feature allows owners of BlackBerry 10 devices, be it Z10, Q10, Q5, Z30 or something else, to take advantage of the wide range of Android applications without restrictions. Previously, this required a complex and lengthy process, but now everything is much simpler. If you cannot find the necessary application in BlackBerry World, now you have a chance to find it in a number of other sources.

Step 1. Locate and download the.apk file of the application of interest on the PC

Step 2. Copy.apk to your BlackBerry

You can get the apk file by directly accessing one of the web resources from your BlackBerry device and downloading it (this is the easiest option), or sending the file to yourself by e-mail, or by downloading the file from the computer to the phone via the USB cable / Wi.Fi connection.

Step 3. Install the application from your BlackBerry device

If you downloaded the.apk file to your device from an Internet browser, the “Downloads” window will immediately appear on the screen, where you will be asked to select a file name and a path to save it. When you do, just click on the file. If the download window does not appear, you can call it manually by clicking on the drop-down menu in the lower right part of the screen (three small dots) and selecting “Downloads”.

If the file was transferred to your phone in any other way, you can easily find it by clicking on the magnifying glass icon located on the main screen in the bottom middle and entering “.apk” in the search box that appears at the top of the screen. You will see a list of all files and documents on your device that match the query. Just select the application you want to install from the list. You can also use the file manager.

The Android application will begin to install after the Processing indicator appears briefly. Click the “Install” button in the upper right, and in the window that appears informing you of the permissions required to run the application, click “Accept”.

If this is your first time installing the.apk file on your BlackBerry, you will be prompted to disable the security settings that would otherwise block the installation of these files. The previous installation screen will return when you click the Open button, which will appear instead of the Install button when the installation is completed.

From this moment, the installed application will be displayed in the same way as all other applications. Just scroll the main screen several times from right to left to find the icon you need, and place it in any folder or anywhere on the main screen of your choice. To drag an icon, hold it for a few moments with your finger.

You may also want to hide the panel at the bottom of the screen. Swipe down from top to bottom when the application is open, and click Hide bar.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the applications will work just like on Android devices.
