Below I will present all combinations, which can be found on all models of a line of laptops. Recall that in some versions, you can spy a combination of keys on the start screen, where the tooltip will be displayed at the very bottom of the laptop when you turn it on.

NOTE ! On some models in addition to the main key you must also use the auxiliary “Fn” key. That is, if you see “F2” (or another) button in the tooltip on the home screen, but there is no result when you press it, then try using the auxiliary button and press “Fn” and “F2” at the same time. On some models there is no such an auxiliary button. Try to press the main button and use the other keys simultaneously: “Ctrl”, “Alt” or “Shift”.

Sometimes the “Ctrl” or “Shift” keys are used as auxiliary keys instead of “Fn”. Remember this. This option is possible on keyboards that do not have “Fn”. In older models there may be more complex options like: “CtrlAltEsc”, “CtrlAltDel”, “CtrlAltS”, “CtrlAltB”.

If the entry to the BIOS was successful, then the laptop owner will see the main system menu. Here the user can change the time and set the date.

The next tab will be called “Advanced”. Here the user can adjust the video card or activate the hard drive write protection. Besides the owner of the device can overclock the processor or the hard drive. And also in this tab you can configure USB port support.

The next section is called “Boot”. It is necessary for setting the boot disks. In this tab you can set priorities for booting hard drives. For example, to install Windows, you would need to set USB flash drive or DVD ROM as first boot device if the process is to be performed from a CD.

The way to enter the BIOS on Windows 8.1

The procedure in this version is slightly different from the previous version, the user needs to follow the following steps:

• Go to “Settings” and open “Change computer settings”;
• Go to the “Update and recovery” tab;
• Next you need to press the “Diagnostic” key, then select the “Advanced Settings”;
• In “Boot configurations” click on “UEFI firmware settings” and reboot the device.

The operating system “BIOS

The abbreviation “BIOS” stands for “Basic Input/Output System”. This is the chip with the memory installed on the motherboard of the device. In order for the chip to be able to function, a battery is required. In the “BIOS” there is information which defines the possibility to test and boot the computer.

If the laptop or computer normally works, boots and restarts, then there is no need to enter the system. However, if there are any problems, the cause may be exactly in the malfunction of “BIOS”. It is also needed for reinstalling the operating system. The main task of the BIOS is to have a boot menu (Boot Priority).

BIOS update

It is strongly recommended to update BIOS only from official sites of manufacturers.

In my case you have to go to the Samsung website and enter the full model name (written on the bottom of the laptop): NP350V5C-S1JRU

Next, scroll down the screen and find “Update Software”, click on it, which leads to a download file BIOSUpdate.Exe

In my case the latest update is already installed. If you have a newer version available you just need to click on the last button to update the BIOS.

How to enter and configure the BIOS of a Samsung MP355 laptop to install Windows 7 or 8 from a flash drive or disc

Let’s see what you need to do to enter and configure BIOS on your Samsung mp355 laptop to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 from a USB device (flash drive) or CD/DVD drive.

USB stick or disk must be preinstalled in the USB port or CD/DVD drive, respectively.

Turn the notebook on. Press the F2 button while turning the notebook on to get into the BIOS.

In the main BIOS menu, go to the “Boot” tab. Go down and select the sub-item “Secure Boot”. The default setting is “Enabled”. Press the “Enter” button. Select “Disabled” item in the window that will appear. Check out the image below.

A new item appears in the vertical menu. “OS Mode Selection”. Go to it. The default setting is “UEFI OS”. Press the “Enter” button. A new window will appear. Here select “UEFI and Legacy OS”. See picture below.

Back to the main BIOS menu. Go to Advanced tab. Go downstairs and select “Fast BIOS Mode” menu item. The default setting is “Enabled”. Press Enter. In the window that appears select the “Disabled” item. Press the “Enter” button. See picture below.

Return to BIOS main menu. Go to the “Exit” menu tab. Select “Exit Saving Changes” from the vertical list. Pressing the “Enter” button. In the window that appears. Make sure the “Yes” button is active. Press “Enter” button again.

The notebook will auto restart. After that we will go back to BIOS. Your computer will now be able to read your flash drive or disk drive.

Select the “Boot” menu item. Select “Boot Device Priority”. This item will be the first in the list. Press the “Enter” button.

Here our actions depend on the device we are going to boot from.

If we want to boot from the disk, we will go to “Boot Option #1”. Press “Enter” button. Select your CD/DVD drive in the window that will appear. Press the “Enter” button. See the picture below.

If we will boot from the flash drive, then in the item “Boot Option #1” leave the hard disk device active.

Go down to “Hard Drive BBS Priorities” menu item. Press the “Enter” button.

In the next window select “Boot Option #1”. Press the “Enter” button. In the small window that appears choose our flash drive. In our case it is “Generic Flash Disk 8.07”. Press the “Enter” button again. See the picture below.

Return to BIOS main menu by pressing “Escape” button several times. Go to “Exit” tab.

Press “Enter” button two times to save changes in your BIOS settings.

The notebook will automatically restart. After rebooting, a window will appear indicating that you can start booting your Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system from a flash drive or disc.

To change the order of the devices in the list press “F5” and “F6” keys.

Select a necessary device and move it to the appropriate direction on the list.

After setting the correct order of devices press the “Escape” button. Back to the main BIOS menu.

To save the changes in the BIOS settings we go to the “Exit” tab. Check that the “Exit Saving Changes” line is active. See the image below.

Press the “Enter” button. A small window will appear. There we make sure that the “Yes” button is active. Press the “Enter” button again.

That saves the results of the changes we have made.

The notebook will automatically go to reboot.

After switching it on again the notebook will boot the operating system from a USB stick or a disk drive, depending on the setting which we have chosen.

A window similar to the image below should appear if you are booting from a flash drive or disc.

You can now proceed to install and boot Windows 7 or Windows 8 or something else.
