How to enable honor 20 pro

EMUI settings and features on Honor smartphones that make life easier

EMUI is the shell for the operating system used on all Honor smartphones. It’s simpler and more convenient than the standard Android interface, allows you to do many things faster and adds some interesting and unique features. Honor continues to release updates even for models released a few years ago, and now the brand’s devices come with EMUI version 9.0 и 9.1.

In this article we’ll tell you about EMUI settings and features that not everyone knows about (and for good reason)!).

Customize the size of the text and the interface

This little tweak can make the eyes of many smartphone users happy. If it’s hard to see, don’t bother, just make it larger. On Honor devices, this is done in the screen settings. Set the size of text and interface elements separately.

Connect your keyboard to your social accounts

On Honor smartphones, the Swype on-screen keyboard is enabled by default. This includes tear-free input, so just draw a line from one letter to the next and continue. And the better the keyboard knows your vocabulary, the better it guesses your words, and the less you have to correct it.

A great way to teach Swype your linguistic differences at once is to let it read your posts on social networks. Unless, of course, they’re written by your SMM or press secretary.

Split the screen into two parts

If your smartphone has a big screen, you can work with two applications at the same time: for example, to watch a video and check the map or chat. In EMUI you just swipe your knuckle on the middle of the screen and the program shrinks down (if it supports this feature), and you can start another one in the space left over. The border between these windows can be easily dragged, and if you drag it to the upper or lower edge, one of the applications will collapse altogether.

Teach your smartphone to sense that you are near

Fingerprint or face unlock is very fast now, but you can get by without it at all. EMUI has a Bluetooth unlock feature on a Bluetooth device, like a wristband. If it’s close by and connected, the smartphone will sense that it’s in your hands, and to unlock it, all you have to do is swipe your finger on the screen.

Use the phone with one hand

Smartphones are getting bigger, and it happens that it’s not very convenient to type on the on-screen keyboard on the go. Honor smartphones have a simple gimmick for this, and it’s not even necessary to get into settings: just swipe to the left or right from the central screen button and the image will shrink (if the buttons are off swipe from the corner to the center). Back is easy. just click on the blank space on your screen.

Use app clones for different accounts

Some social media clients, like Instagram, allow you to have multiple accounts right in the app and switch between them easily. Messenger can’t do that either. EMUI has a special feature for them: in the settings menu, there’s a clone app item. Turn it on and a twin appears on your desktop with your account.

Create a secret space

A very useful function of EMUI shell creating a secret space. In fact, you can make a second account on your smartphone, with its own applications (it makes sense to hide banking programs there), notes, email and social media accounts, photo gallery, and with its own design. And there will be nothing to indicate that it even exists.

And it is implemented very convenient: start the second PIN-code and / or write another fingerprint, let it be, say, a pinky finger to no one guessed. Enter the PIN (you put your secret finger) and you are already in a closed space.

Another use for this feature is a baby account. You can equip the offspring of his world in a smartphone with a set of games and tutorials, but without access to your adult applications and data.

Unlock your phone by just lifting it up

Today’s Honor smartphones support face unlock with the front camera. Paired with this feature is also convenient to use the waking apparatus by lifting. And it’s also worth setting up an unlock that goes straight to the desktop, so you don’t have to swipe your finger on the screen. It goes like this: you pick up your smartphone, it recognizes you and is ready to go.

Use Themes

EMUI has had an application (look for it on the desktop, not in settings) Themes. This is a large catalog of design themes, which include not only wallpaper, but also colors, fonts, etc. д. On a separate tab are the text styles. Some of these are paid, but the catalog of free themes and styles is huge.

Don’t be left without a charge

Two power-saving modes on Honor smartphones. One is gentle. It severely restricts the background work of the applications, disables automatic e-mail synchronization, mutes sounds and simplifies the animation of the interface. In fact, you can use it to concentrate on your work, if you can’t put Do Not Disturb on.

If your battery is close to zero and you realize it’s a long way to the outlet, then it’s time for Ultra mode. Your smartphone basically becomes your phone: you can use it to make calls, you can send SMS messages, and that’s about it. But in this form it will last for many more hours.

Set a video as your ringtone

The EMUI 9 shell has an interesting feature: you can set not only ringtones, but also videos as ringtone for incoming calls. This is configurable both for all calls at once and for individual contacts.

Many Honor models already received the updated EMUI firmware and some will follow shortly:

Honor 20: why there are so many capture modes and how to use them properly

recently, we wrote about what the camera of the new flagship Honor 20 is capable of. And in that material we briefly mentioned the numerous capture modes available to the owner of the gadget. Now it’s time to figure out when it’s best to use them and how to get the most out of them. Telling and showing.

Let’s start with where to look for these modes. Once we open the Camera app, we can access only the main camera modes: still photo, portrait, night and the ones that don’t directly concern photography. video and augmented reality, which we won’t dwell on in this material. Let’s look at the others in order.

Basic modes

Photo mode is the most basic scenario for the Honor 20, with an emphasis on the work of automatics. With AI turned on, the camera recognizes scenes and selects the best settings for shooting itself. It’s worth mentioning that it does it very accurately, making a fine distinction between pussies and dogs, blue sky and dense green, etc. At the same time AI slightly improves the reality, slightly increasing the saturation of tones. If you don’t like that approach, you can simply turn it off and get an extremely realistic image. Flexibility and variation are always a good thing.

Keep in mind that while automation dominates, it won’t sharpen your focus for you. Or rather, it will try, but not the fact that it will guess the thoughts of artificial intelligence has not yet been taught to read. So be sure to select the focus point by tapping in the right place of the frame on the screen. Note that the brightness of the point you choose will determine the exposure, that is, roughly speaking, the brightness of most of the frame. If you see a big difference (e.g. dark forest and bright sky), it is better to tap somewhere in the middle to make the balance between highlights and shadows more or less even. It will automatically smooth out this difference in post-processing (it happens so fast that you do not even notice it, but it still happens), retaining maximum details in both bright and dark parts of the frame.

Then we move on to the zoom function which is available to the photographer in the Photo mode described above. You can switch between zoom options by clicking on the small circles labeled 1x, 2x and Wider. There are also intermediate options, but we don’t recommend using them. they are always digital zoom with a noticeable loss of quality.

With 1x all is clear is the standard angle of view of the main camera. With Shire, the story is already more interesting: after tapping on this circle, the Honor 20 activates an additional 16-megapixel wide-angle camera with an angle of view of 117 degrees.

When to do it? There are a lot of situations, but the key idea is the same: this mode is useful if you want to capture as much of the surrounding area as possible. This is often very useful when photographing beautiful buildings and especially large architectural complexes. Landscapes, as a rule, are also a no-win variant. But shooting people with a wide angle lens is not very welcome in terms of classical photography: the lens has the peculiarity that it stretches the image a lot in the corners. You won’t even notice it on the fragment with the sky or forest, but you will never forget your friend’s face stretched like in a distorted mirror. But it can be considered an artistic effect.

Next circle 2x is a hybrid zoom: mix of optical and digital zoom. Very useful if there is something beautiful nearby and you want to take a picture of it, but you can’t get close enough. The subject could be a part of a building or something behind a high fence. When taking pictures with the zoom it is very important not only to choose the point of focus, but also to stand firmly on your feet and to hold the phone firmly with both hands. Any, even the slightest, jolting can add a nasty smudge to the frame. The worse the lighting conditions, the more relevant these rules are. It’s quite cool if you can get something to lean on or even fix the Honor 20 on a special tripod for your smartphone. It is inexpensive and lightweight, but very useful. However, in the daytime you can take pictures with the zoom simply from your hands without any problems or particular difficulties.

Moving on. Portrait mode is next, and this thing is just what you need to take pictures of people. In it, using a separate lens responsible for depth measurement, the Honor 20 camera separates the foreground i.e. your model from the background i.e. the background and blurs the latter in post-processing. The blur effect can be selected in the settings. Bright spots of light in the background can be turned into circles or, say, hearts. Or you can make the whole background dark, adding more accent with the virtual light on the face, thus imitating the light pattern of the flash. And these are just a few options, so there is room for experimentation.

In addition, you can also use the dual hybrid zoom in this mode, but, in our opinion, it does not make much sense. You can also choose the intensity of the applied effect Decoration from 0 to 10 in increments of one. This is the thing that smoothes the skin of the person being photographed. Hardly relevant to men, but women love it. And here’s a tip: in Portrait mode you can shoot not only people but also statues of people. Sometimes it turns out funny.

The last photo mode from the list of basic modes is called Night. This is also a kind of autopilot, but already for shooting scenes with insufficient light. Basically, it’s all about multiple exposures. You compose the frame, choose ISO and shutter speed, and then hold the smartphone smoothly and firmly for a few seconds, while the camera takes a lot of frames and automatics compose them together. Considering the algorithm, it is quite logical that dynamic scenes with something moving in the frame are absolutely useless to shoot in this mode. Static shots, on the other hand, look pretty interesting.

Advanced modes

The above mentioned are, of course, not all the photo features of the Honor 20. If you pick from the main mode list, you get an additional menu with lots of interesting things. Let’s go through the whole list in order.

Number one is Panorama mode. In it you have to slowly drive the phone from left to right in vertical orientation or from top to bottom in horizontal orientation, and the Honor 20 will glue everything in the frame into an interesting photocollision. There are several tips for achieving a good result.

First, choose static scenes: moving objects in the frame will be blurred, cropped or frozen in ugly pieces right in the middle of the panorama. Second, don’t rush anywhere: the slower you move your smartphone and the less your hands tremble in the process, the better the result will be. Thirdly, guide your smartphone along the vertical or horizontal mowing line smoothly, deviating from it as little as possible: that will maximize the panorama width.

Fourthly, you don’t have to try to use the whole available length of the panorama. Often it is the shortest possible square panoramas that look best. You get a wider angle of view than with a standard lens and it creates an effect of depth. Fifthly, don’t try to make panoramas at night or in rooms with a strong lack of light. The Honor 20 camera is cool, but neither it nor any of the competitors can do this. Or rather, you’ll get a panorama, but not in the quality you expect.

Next comes the mega useful HDR mode. Where the phone quickly takes several frames with different exposures and then combines them into one to keep the most detail in the brightest and darkest parts of the frame. Any hard differences between lights and shadows HDR smooths out very well below a few examples. Just remember that continuous shooting works here as well, so excuse me for repeating the Honor 20 in your hands firmly and levelly, and your hands shouldn’t be shaking when you’re shooting.

The next mode is called Filter, and it works very simply. Photographer can choose from eight filters, and each has 32 levels of intensity. We choose the first one, correct the second one, press the shutter button and we are done. It’s absolutely nothing supernatural, and you can master this job after literally the first shot you make. Who it’s good for? We believe that those who do not want to use third-party image processing software. When you shoot with Filter mode, you can see your results on the Honor 20 display before you even press the virtual shutter button.

Next up is one of the coolest features of Honor 20. Super macro mode. In it, the smartphone’s camera lens can be brought as close as possible to objects: the distance to take pictures is only 4 centimeters! The resolution is lowered down to 2 megapixels, but you get to see the world through the camera in a whole new way. Once again, it’s easier to show than to tell. Here are a few examples:

It’s important to remember that all those droplets and tiny spiders are the result of some pretty painstaking work, not just by the camera, but also by the photographer. First of all, the focal length is fixed you need to get exactly within 4 centimeters to get what you need in focus. Secondly, you need a lot of light, so you have to shoot macro only in daytime and not even in shadow, but under sunlight or bright artificial light sources. Third, it’s important that both your subject and your smartphone don’t wiggle from side to side. It’s not difficult to influence the second option, but you certainly can’t make the wind stop to tossing a beautiful blade of grass from side to side. Alas, sometimes you have to wait a bit for a good shot.

Next is Super Slow Motion mode. This is a video-related feature, but let’s touch on it briefly. The idea here is that you catch something moving quite fast through the lens, shoot a short clip at a very high frame rate per second, and then the automation compresses everything to the standard 30 fps, creating a slowdown effect. So, for example, at the maximum available frequency of 960 fps you can slow everything down 32 times (the other two options are 4x and 8x). This is what it looks like:

We’ll look at the additional Light mode features in detail in the next article, when we’ll talk about night photography on the smartphone in general and on the Honor 20 in particular. So let’s move on to the Live Photo mode. Here, everything is also quite simple. In fact, this is the same classic Photo mode, which we talked about at the beginning of the material, but the finished photo is complemented by a short video for a couple of seconds. If something moved in the frame while taking a photo, you can see it in the Honor 20 gallery by selecting the finished photo and pressing a special button.

Documents mode is quite predictably designed for taking pictures of texts and, oddly enough, documents. Often we are asked to print, sign, scan and then send something, and this is exactly the case: only there is no need to run to the scanner, because there is Honor 20 with its excellent camera. The main trick here is that the phone itself detects the boundaries of the page to be photographed and automatically cuts off everything superfluous around. Very convenient no need to get into any Photoshop.

Next is Time Lapse mode, a literal translation of timelapse. It’s also video mode. You hold your smartphone there and it captures something nice and moving for a few minutes. The pizza-making process on the table above, for instance, or the clouds floating over the mountains. At the very end, the automated system sharply speeds up the video, compressing up several minutes of video to a few very effective seconds.

The watermark is just like Instagram stickers, but with Honor 20 you can apply it to your future photos before you take them. And there’s less choice, of course.

Aperture is an interesting mode that engages the optional Honor 20 lens, which is responsible for measuring the depth of a scene. The meaning here is the same as in portrait mode, i.e.е. in the separation of the foreground from the background and the subsequent blurring of the latter. But there are a few differences. First, you can take pictures in this mode not only of people. Secondly, you can adjust the degree of background blur from 0 to 10 at any time after taking the picture. overlay on the blurred part with one of several effects, especially good with the Miniature effect.

And this mode is better for taking pictures of close objects that are easier for the camera to separate from the background. Here are a few examples:

And to finish this material with a story about a luxury mode Pro. But don’t let the name scare you, you don’t have to be a professional photographer to use it. Just here most of the automatic algorithms are turned off and you get direct control over all the key shooting settings.

The first wow is the choice of exposure metering. There are three of them: point-and-shoot, partial and estimation. In the first one the brightness is measured by a very small area of the frame, in the second one the point is larger (up to 15% of the frame area), in the third one the frame is divided into several segments, and the automation calculates something in the average between them.

What’s also interesting is that you can choose from three different types of focus. The mere presence of the manual mode is already worthy of respect, but also in addition to the standard automatic AF-S there is AF-C continuous autofocus, which will itself focus even if something happens and changes in the frame.

In addition, in manual mode the photographer can make exposure corrections in increments of 0.3 and ranging from.4 to 4. Т.е. Roughly speaking, make a too bright frame darker or vice versa. Plus there are presets for white balance and even the ability to set the color temperature in degrees Kelvin. And ISO and shutter speed, of course. In essence, the kit is about the same as in fairly serious cameras. If automatics suddenly gives up on some scene, it’s in PRO mode that you’ll be able to squeeze the absolute maximum out of the Honor 20 camera.

If a person connects a smartphone to a PC via USB cable, but the computer does not respond in any way, it means that the user has encountered one of the following problems:

  • cable malfunction;
  • The USB connector on one of your devices is broken;
  • incorrect drivers for the smartphone are installed on the computer, or there are none at all;
  • “Charge only” option is selected when connected;
  • the operating system of one of the devices fails to work.

Thus, all the problems indicated can be divided into physical and software. To determine the exact reason why the Huawei Honor 20 Pro phone does not see the PC, you need to check the hardware and settings of both devices.

What is frequency aggregation on your smartphone

Huawei Honor and Xiaomi smartphones feature frequency aggregation. It allows the modem to access the connection through several communication channels at once. This allows you to merge frequencies of different bands while establishing a 4G connection.

As a result, the bandwidth is aggregated. The speed of downloading files and loading web pages increases. We have figured out what it is, but how it works?

How to distribute Internet on Honor via USB with data transfer to PC

Sometimes it happens that the Internet is not available on the PC (for example, if the user has not paid for it in time).

In this case you can connect to mobile Internet as follows:

  • Connecting phone to PC using USB cable.
  • Confirming the connection on your phone.
  • Slide the “curtain” and activate mobile data transfer.
  • Go to settings.
  • Selecting “Wireless Networks”.
  • Select “USB modem” as modem mode.

It remains to go to the list of available networks in PC and select the necessary one, i.e. Honor access point. If we have set a password in the settings, it will have to be entered from the computer.

Method N3. Scheduled Power On/Off

There is another tricky way to turn off your Huawei (Honor). For example, if the mechanical button is broken, you can use the smartphone’s scheduled on/off function. The system has such a function and to configure it, do the following:

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to the item Management.
  • Here we see the item Scheduled on/off.
  • Activate the function and set the desired day and time.

If the Power button is damaged, don’t forget to set the power on time.

Connection options via wire

Wired ways of connecting Huawei Honor 20 Pro to the TV are not the most convenient due to the use of cables, but at the same time these options do not require advanced technical equipment of the TV receiver.

Via USB

This is the easiest way to connect your phone to the home screen. To implement it, the owner of Huawei Honor 20 Pro will need a USB cable, which comes with the device.

Then it is necessary to insert one part of the cable into the smartphone and the other part into the TV receiver. After that it is only necessary to open the TV menu using the remote control and select the USB-port in the connection menu.

At the same time on the smartphone itself confirms the data exchange with the TV by selecting the connection as a media device. If done correctly, the TV receiver will detect the Huawei Honor 20 Pro as an external drive, and you will use the remote control to play photos, audio and video on the TV screen.

Via HDMI

This method is more complex, but also more functional. If when connecting via USB, the owner of the device has a basic set of features to perceive Huawei Honor 20 Pro as an external storage device, then when pairing via HDMI, the receiver screen will display the desktop of the smartphone, as well as display the actions performed on the phone. In particular, the launch of certain programs.

The difficulty of the method is that the Huawei Honor 20 Pro is not equipped with an HDMI port for connection to TV. But this drawback can be circumvented with an MHL or SlimPort adapter. You can buy the appropriate accessory at an electronics store at a price of 200-300.

Connection will be as follows:

  • Insert the USB plug from the MHL adapter or SlimPort into the smartphone.
  • Using an HDMI cable connect the same connectors of the adapter and receiver.
  • Open the TV settings and then the list of available connections.
  • Selects the HDMI connector you want to use.

If everything is done correctly, the desktop of the Huawei Honor 20 Pro will be displayed on the screen of the TV receiver. After that, you can manipulate the smartphone, and the movements will be displayed on the TV receiver.

How to connect Honor Sport AM61 to the phone and PC: instructions

Healthy lifestyle has become more popular these days. Many people run, Nordic Walk, or just take a walk in the fresh air and prefer to listen to music on their mobile gadgets through headphones. Wired headphones in these situations will not be comfortable, they easily get caught on clothing and the like, or fall out of your ears, or disconnected from the phone jack. Wireless headphones are the best choice.

Developer mode on Huawei and Honor smartphones

The developer mode on Huawei and Honor mobile devices will give access to the advanced settings functionality, which is absent in the standard menu.

The main available functions that may be useful to any smartphone user are listed below:

  • Viewing and managing running applications
  • Automatic system update activation
  • USB debugging (mode that allows to move files between PC and mobile device, directly install applications and view system logs)
  • Selecting USB setting
  • Charge only
  • Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). for transferring multimedia data (videos, music, images, files, etc.).п.)
  • Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP). for transferring images to a computer or printer for printing
  • RNDIS (USB Ethernet). creating a virtual Ethernet channel using the mobile network
  • Audio source use of the smartphone as an audio output source
  • MIDI. using a gadget as a MIDI device

It is important to remember that careless use of these features may cause your mobile device to malfunction. Before any action, think about your decision and review the information on these features.
