How To Disable Fast Charging On Huawei P30

What is fast charging on Xiaomi?

Quick charging (Quick Charge) of the battery became necessary at a time when the battery capacity exceeded 1500 mAh. Modern smartphones Xiaomi (Redmi) are equipped with batteries with a capacity of 3000 mAh and even 4000 mAh, which positively affects the battery life of the phone.

However, if the usual method of charging the battery implies that the charger gives out a current with a voltage of 5 V and a current of 2 A, then devices with support for the BZ raise these characteristics to 20 V and 5 A.

Why can not you just increase the current parameters given by charging in any phones? This is a lithium-ion battery. We are used to the fact that this type of battery is installed in all phones and we don’t see anything special in it, however, from the point of view of physics and chemistry, this is a dangerous product that, if handled improperly, can self-ignite.

Inside the battery there is a separate microcircuit that controls its operation, it monitors the temperature, as well as the parameters of the electric current that comes into it and from it comes to power the phone.

The microcircuit is necessary for work, but most importantly. for security. If the battery operation parameters go beyond the dangerous boundaries, the microcircuit automatically opens the contacts and disconnects the battery permanently. For the user, this is unpleasant, because you have to change it, but it’s better than getting a fire in your pants.

Xiaomi phones use the BZ developed by Qualcomm, called Quick Charge.

The use of KB led to a change at the hardware level in three places:

  1. In the battery controller chip
  2. In memory
  3. In phone processor

All three devices must be compatible, only in this case the phone will charge quickly. This is necessary for security reasons, in the event of a base failure, the charger continuously exchanges information with the battery controller about its state and charge level. The more the battery is charged, the less voltage and amperage is given by charging in order to avoid a fire. Precisely because all types of knowledge bases are dynamic, full compatibility is required.

Never buy suspicious chargers at a cheap price. they can cause a fire. If you saw news that the next user had a smartphone light up during charging, you should know that a fake cheap charge was used with a 95% probability.

How to check if fast charging works on Xiaomi or not?

The easiest verification method is to connect the smartphone to the memory and see what will be displayed at the bottom of the screen during the process.

If it will be written “Fast charge”, it means Quick Charge technology is working. If written “Charging”, it means that the battery works in safe mode, it charges, but it does it by the standard method and the time required to set a full charge will increase 3-4 times.

Another method is to detect the time of charging the battery, if it differs significantly from what is indicated in the description of the Xiaomi model on the official website, then Quick Charge does not work.

Also pay attention to the current characteristics indicated on the memory, they should look like this: Output: 5V-3A / 9V-2A / 12V-1.5A. These parameters comply with the Quick Charge 3.0 standard, which allows you to charge a 3150 mAh battery from 0 to 100% in 1 hour 15 minutes. If the memory says something like: Output: DC 5V, 1.5A. This means this is a standard charger, it is compatible with Xiaomi smartphones, but it will take a very long time to charge them.

How to enable or disable Quick Charge on Xiaomi smartphones?

In modern Xiaomi smartphones, it is impossible to disable or enable the KB in the settings. When Quick Charge just appeared, and it was back in 2013, in the early firmware it was possible to disable this feature, but gradually it disappeared from the settings.

If for some reason you do not want to use Quick Charge when charging the battery, you need to use the charger without its support, i.e. in which the output current parameters are as follows: Output: DC 5V, 1.5A. In this case, the battery controller will determine that the charger is operating normally and charging will continue as before. But keep in mind that modern batteries with a capacity of 3000 mAh and higher will charge for a very long time, possibly up to 3 hours or longer.

It is also impossible to turn on the KB; this is a hardware function. It is specially made outside the scope of the user’s influence, so that he could not damage the device. As I wrote above, the charger continuously communicates with the battery controller and Xiaomi processor using a special protocol, and only if all three nodes understand it and give the correct commands to each other, Quick Charge is turned on, otherwise it automatically blocks.

Does fast charging depend on a USB cable?

I must disappoint you. yes, the function of the KB depends on the USB cable that connects to the phone and charger.

In my practice, there was a case when for charging Xiaomi MI5 for two years a complete charger and a USB cable were used, but at some point they noticed that the phone began to charge very slowly.

After a short search for the culprit, it turned out to be a cable. After replacing the cable, everything returned to normal. Although the cable was intact in appearance, there were no kinks or damage to the protective sheath. Most likely, inside the metal cores they lost contact, so Quick Charge disconnected automatically and the battery charging time lasted for a long 4 hours.

I advise you to buy only high-quality USB wires, do not save on them, because cheap cables use cheap accessories and, worse, cheap soldering inside it, which does not guarantee stable and good contact.
