How to connect a DVR without a cigarette lighter

Let’s say you bought a DVR. Hanged him on the glass, stuck in a cigarette lighter and ride a car happy that everything that happens around was removed by your registrar. And everything would be fine, only the wire coming from the cigarette lighter to the registrar, now and then it interferes. And you thought about connecting the DVR power supply to the onboard network of your car. But how to do this, if not, neither a detailed connection instruction, nor even a car wiring scheme?

To connect the DVR or any other equipment that is powered from the networks of the car (hereinafter we will talk about the registrar), you need to understand where the registrar itself will be, and where the connection will take place. To understand how to lay a wire and what length of the wire is needed.

It is better to pull the wire from the registrar to the connection location. There it can be trimmed or trampled. But first things first.

The first thing you need to install exactly is what voltage your DVR works from. Often there are registrars operating from 5V, and the voltage of the vehicles of the car is 12V (even 24V in trucks). If the registrar works from 12V, then you can simply cut off the plug inserted into the cigarette lighter and use the native wires to connect to the onboard network. In registrars with a voltage of 5V, as you know, you can’t cut off the plug. But if you do not know, two arcs or one are connected, then it is better to get to both of them.

It must be carefully soldered so that the wires of the plus and minus do not beg among themselves and do not close on any of the wires of the car. Therefore, pay much attention to isolation.

If you have a cigarette lighter plug of such a plan as in the photo, then you can cut it off. Since, only two wires go inside it. plus and minus. Without any microcircuits and additional outlets.

Having cut off the plug or soldering the wires, let’s find a place to connect.

The ideal place for connecting the registrar, of course, is the cigarette lighter itself. That is, if you can freely reach the wires going to the cigarette lighter, feel free to connect to them.

If it is difficult to get to the cigarette lighter wires or you will have to disassemble half the car interior to access them (it happens), then you need to find another wire on which a plus appears when the ignition is turned on. Any equipment must be connected so that it starts to work when the ignition is turned on if it is not equipped with a dedication. Otherwise, the equipment will constantly consume car battery current. On each car, the power supply circuits are different and where to get the ignition, I will not tell you, but I can advise where to look. Finding the ignition wire, do not rush to water to it. Firstly, we do not know what voltage current is on it, and secondly, when connecting to any plus wire, its resistance increases. On the wires of the same section, this passes unnoticed, but all the same, if you are not sure that this wire is suitable for connecting the registrar to it, it is better not to take risks.

A constant plus is a plus that never disappears in the wire never. In fact, this is a plus terminal of the battery. It can be taken in the same place as the ignition, or dragged straight from the battery (but this is superfluous). It is advisable to take the wire thicker, but within reasonable limits. Just a little thicker than the rest in the tourniquet, or, the same thickness as the wire from the relay.

To the constant plus of a car, we wind the general contact of the relay. Closed contact must be insulated, or generally bite away or pulled out.

Plus, hollowing on our registrar, we wind up on the open contact of the relay. The minus of the relay control can be combined with the minus of the registrar.

But the second relay control wire we just wind up to our ignition. What happened. When the ignition is turned on, the relay opens and a plus goes to the recovery, going to the registrar.

For those who still do not know, direct current flows in cars. And it flows in one direction. from the plus terminal of the battery to the minus. Lesser terminal of the battery is connected to the body of the car. That is, having connected to the body of the car, we automatically connect to the minus terminal of the battery.

How to connect a DVR to wiring

We will connect the Joyy A1 DVR to the lighting ceiling. The registrar itself belongs to the type of inconspicuous installation. It is attached under the mirror, and if you do not look closely, then it is actually not noticeable both from the street and from the salon.

This DVR has 3 wires: a constant plus (necessary to save settings and recording when the ignition is turned off with activated shock sensors), plus AC (for recording when the ignition is turned on) and minus.

It is easily easily connected in the machine, throw the wire from the kit to the fuse unit, look for free places for fuses and check the tester, which was included, where there is a plus when the ignition is turned off and where the ignition appears when the ignition is turned on in the ACS position. Connect the connectors of the DVR to the places for fuses, and fasten the minus to the body. Everything, the registrar is connected.

But I had no free places in the Mazda 3. It would be possible to buy adapters, but many complain about them, since due to constant vibrations, these adapters jump out.

Therefore, the connection of the DVR will be carried out to the lighting plafon, without a cigarette lighter and hanging wires.

How to connect a DVR unnoticed and without wires

As a rule, many, in order not to extend the wire, connect the DVR to the lighting ceiling, but I have little space for the terminal clamp of the wire in Mazda 3. Therefore, I will connect the DVR according to the hybrid scheme. Plus and minus through the cigarette lighter, and the control plus through the ceiling.

The cigarette lighter is plus Ass, which turns on when turning the key. I make the insert with the help of such terminal clamps, I just inserted the wires and fixed it with pliers to the click.

I need only a plus from a cigarette lighter, but I extended it and minus.

Next, I stretch the wire through a torpedo, then through the right front rack to the ceiling.

Now you need to find a constant plus, which on almost all cars is in the lighting plafon. You can connect to it using a small terminal clamp. How to find a constant plus? Yes, easy, with the help of a tester that is included. A constant plus always shines, even when the car is drowned out. According to this scheme, a DVR is connected in a car without a cigarette lighter, this simplifies the installation and does not need to pull the wires through the rack and the torpedo.

There is also an important point, on some models, for example on Lanser 10, it is better not to connect to the plafon. All because of the ETACS unit, which, due to the increased additional load, will not let the car “fall asleep” after taking out the key. This will lead to a current leak and battery discharge. But there is a special connector for connecting additional equipment on the same Lancer and in the same ETACS unit. It is very convenient, there you can get 12 constant volts, 12 volts when the ACC and 12 volts are turned on when turning off the dimensions. Very convenient and practical.

After installation, be sure to check the machine for the current leakage, when the machine is closed for the alarm, the current consumption should be in the limit of 20-60 mA.
