How to Associate a New Number To Apple Id

You can use your iPhone phone number in Messaging and FaceTime on your Mac and iPad or iPod touch.

Phone Number Setting

On your iPhone, do the following:

  1. Select “Settings” Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on. It may take some time to activate it.
  2. Click “Send / Receive”. If “Your Apple ID for iMessage” is displayed, click it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch.

  3. In the settings for receiving iMessages messages, make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
  4. Go to the Settings menu FaceTime and make sure that in the “Your address for FaceTime in” section, your phone number and Apple ID are selected.

After that, the configured phone number can be enabled on other devices:

If you use the Apple ID with another user when using this feature, you cannot hide your conversations from this user. Instead of sharing your Apple ID, set up Family Sharing.

Delete phone number

If you do not want calls or messages for the iPhone to appear on your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, you can delete your phone number. To do this, use one of the following methods.

  • On your iPhone, select Settings “Messages” “Sending / receiving”. Select your Apple ID and click Sign Out. Then go to the “Settings” FaceTime, select your Apple ID and click Sign Out.
  • If the phone number you want to delete is from an iPhone that you don’t have access to, change your Apple ID password. This removes all phone numbers from your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. Calls and messages for deleted numbers will no longer be displayed on these devices.

Turn on or off the phone number for your Mac

After you configure your phone number, you can turn it on or off for Messaging and FaceTime on your Mac.

  1. Open Messaging or FaceTime. If necessary, sign in with your Apple ID, which is used with Messaging and FaceTime on your iPhone.
  2. Messages: select Messages Settings, then go to the Accounts section and select your iMessage account. FaceTime: select FaceTime “Settings” and go to the “Settings” section.
  3. Turn on or off the phone number:
    • To include a phone number, select it and your Apple ID in the list. If the phone number does not appear, get setup help or contact Apple Support. If you see someone else’s phone number, change the password for your Apple ID.
    • To turn off the phone number, deselect it in the list.
    • If you want recipients to see your phone number rather than your Apple ID, select your phone number from the “Start a new conversation with” or “Start new calls from” pop-up menu.

    Turn the phone number on or off on the iPad or iPod touch

    After you configure your phone number, you can turn it on or off for Messaging and FaceTime on your iPad or iPod touch.

    1. For the Messages program, open Settings Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on. If required, sign in with your Apple ID, which is used with Message and FaceTime on iPhone. Then click “Send / Receive”.
    2. For FaceTime, open Settings FaceTime If necessary, sign in with your Apple ID, which is used with Messaging and FaceTime on your iPhone.
    3. Turn on or off the phone number:
      • To include a phone number, select it and the Apple ID in the “Your Address for” section. If the phone number does not appear, get setup help or contact Apple Support. If you see someone else’s phone number, change the password for your Apple ID.
      • To disable a phone number, clear the corresponding check box.

      If the phone number is not visible or unavailable for selection in the Messages application or FaceTime

      1. Make sure you are using the latest software for your Mac or iOS device.
      2. Verify that the iPhone procedure for setting the phone number is correct. All devices must use the same Apple ID.
      3. In the “Your Address for” section of the settings for the “Messaging” program and FaceTime, make sure that the checkboxes next to the phone number and Apple ID are:

      If the check box for the phone number is unchecked and you cannot install it, or there is another problem, follow these steps:

      1. On a Mac:
        • In the Messages program, select Messages Settings, then click Accounts and select your iMessage account. Click the Logout button.
        • In FaceTime, select FaceTime. “Settings” and click the “Logout” button.
        • On iPhone, iPad, and iPod:
          • Open Settings “Messages” “Sending / receiving”. Click the Apple ID and select Sign Out.
          • Go to the Settings menu FaceTime Click your Apple ID and select Sign Out.
          • On your iPhone, do the following:
            • Return to the Settings screen. Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on.
            • Click “Send / Receive”, then “Your Apple ID for iMessage” and sign in with your Apple ID.
            • Use the same Apple ID to sign in to Messaging and FaceTime on your other devices.

            If you still need help, change your Apple ID password and repeat the setup process. If this does not help, contact Apple Support.
