Hdmi Doesn’t Work On TV

How in Windows 10 to connect the TV to the laptop via Wi-Fi, or HDMI cable?

If you decide to connect your TV to a computer or laptop with Windows 10, then now I will show and tell you how to do it. We will connect in two ways: via a wireless Wi-Fi network, and using an HDMI cable. Under the Wi-Fi connection, I will introduce a connection via a Wi-Fi router, and the DLNA technology setting. When from a computer, you can watch movies, photos, and listen to music on your TV. Well, connecting with an HDMI cable is a normal HDMI connection # 128578; With this connection, the TV will be like a monitor in Windows 10.

Honestly, there isn’t much difference if you have Windows 7 or Windows 10. Both connecting to a TV via HDMI and Wi-Fi are practically no different. But, let’s take a look at the example of a laptop with Windows 10 installed. I think this article will be relevant and useful for a long time to come.

We connect the TV to the laptop (Windows 10) via Wi-Fi. DLNA setup

We will not consider setting up Wi-Fi Direct technology (when you can connect a TV to a laptop without a router without wires) and Miracast (not all devices support this technology). These are topics for individual articles.

If you want to connect your TV to your computer wirelessly, you can do this as follows:

The main thing is that the laptop and TV should be connected to the same router. By the way, not necessarily over Wi-Fi. One of the devices (or even both) can be connected to the router via cable.

After you connect everything, on the computer you can proceed to configure the DLNA server. Running the server on the computer, you can watch movies on the TV. Please note that on the TV, when using this method, the desktop will not be displayed. You can only view certain files. On setting up a DLNA server, we have three articles:

Despite the fact that they are written on the example of Windows 7, on Windows 10, the DLNA server configuration will go exactly the same. I checked that the server running on the laptop with Windows 10 DLNA installed was displayed on the TV without any problems.

I have instructions on the links above for LG, and Philips TVs. But, the server launched by the methods described above will work without problems on other TVs: Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc. Configure DLNA using the program “Home Media Server (UPnP, DLNA, http)” (as I did in the article for Philips TV). It can be called universal.

I think they figured out the wireless connection. We pass to the wires.

HDMI connection in Winodows 10

We take an ordinary HDMI cable. We connect one end of the cable to the TV in the HDMI connector. There may be several, plug in any.

Hdmi doesn't Work On TV

The second end of the cable is connected to a laptop or desktop computer.

If the picture from the computer did not appear on the TV, then most likely on the TV you need to select the signal source. There should be a special button on the remote control. Usually, it is signed by INPUT, or SOURCES. We click on it, and as the source we select the HDMI connector to which we connected the cable.

An image should appear on the TV.

In Windows 10, you can control the second screen. In our case, this is a TV. In the top ten it is called “Projection”. To call this menu, just press the WinP key combination. A menu will appear on the right where you can select one of 4 options.

For example, you can display the image only on the TV.

That’s all the settings.

If the sound does not work on the TV when connected to Windows 10 via HDMI

Perhaps, after connecting the TV to the computer, the sound will not play from the TV speakers, but from the laptop speakers, or connected speakers. This can be easily fixed.

Right-click the sound control icon in the notification panel, and select Playback devices.

There should be your TV on the list. Right-click on it and select Use as default.

Now the sound will sound from the speakers of your TV.

What to do if HDMI does not work on a laptop

HDMI ports are used in almost all modern technology. Laptops, televisions, tablets, car computers and even some smartphones. These ports have advantages over many similar connectors (DVI, VGA). HDMI is capable of transmitting audio and at the same time, supports high-quality transmission, is more stable, etc. However, he is not immune from various problems.

General summary

HDMI ports have different types and versions, each of which needs a suitable cable. For example, you cannot connect using a standard size cable to a device that uses the C-type port (this is the smallest HDMI port). You will also have difficulty connecting ports with different versions, plus for each version you need to choose the right cable. Fortunately, with this item everything is a little easier, because some versions provide good compatibility with each other. For example, versions 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.4a, 1.4b are fully compatible with each other.

Lesson: How to choose an HDMI cable

Before connecting, you need to check the ports and cables for various defects. Broken contacts, the presence of debris and dust in the connectors, cracks, bare sections on the cable, flimsy fastening of the port to the device. It will be easy enough to get rid of some defects; to eliminate others, you will have to turn in the equipment to a service center or change the cable. Having problems such as bare wires can be dangerous to the health and safety of the wearer.

If the versions and types of connectors match each other and the cable, you need to determine the type of problem and solve it in an appropriate way.

Problem 1: image is not displayed on TV

When you connect a computer and a TV, the image may not always be displayed immediately, sometimes you need to do some settings. Also, the problem may be in the TV, infection of the computer with viruses, outdated card drivers.

Consider the instructions for making standard screen settings for a laptop and computer, which will allow you to configure the image output on TV:

Right-click on any empty area of the desktop. A special menu will appear, from which you need to go to “Screen Settings” for Windows 10 or “Screen Resolution” for earlier versions of the OS.

Next, you have to click “Detect” or “Find” (depending on the OS version), so that the PU detects a TV or monitor that is already connected via HDMI. The desired button is either under the window where the display with the number 1 is schematically shown, or to the right of it.

  • In the “Display Manager” window that opens, you need to find and connect a TV (there should be an icon with the signature TV). Click on it. If it does not appear, then check again that the cables are connected correctly. Provided that everything is normal, a similar image of the 2nd will appear next to the schematic image of the 1st screen.
  • Select the options for displaying the image on two screens. In total there are three of them: “Duplication”, that is, the same picture is displayed on the computer display and on the TV; “Extend the desktop”, involves the creation of a single workspace on two screens; “Display desktop 1: 2”, this option involves transferring the image to only one of the monitors.
  • For everything to work correctly, it is advisable to choose the first and last option. The second one can be selected only if you want to connect two monitors, only HDMI is unable to work correctly with two or more monitors.
  • Performing a display setup does not always guarantee that everything will work 100%, because the problem may lie in other components of the computer or in the TV itself.

Problem 2: no sound is transmitted

HDMI integrates ARC technology, which allows you to transfer sound along with content to a TV or monitor. Unfortunately, far from always the sound starts to be transmitted immediately, since to connect it you need to make some settings in the operating system and update the sound card drivers.

In the first versions of HDMI, there was no built-in support for ARC technology, so if you have an outdated cable and / or connector, you will either have to replace the ports / cables or buy a special headset to connect the sound. For the first time, audio support was added in HDMI version 1.2. And cables released before 2010 have problems with sound reproduction, that is, it will probably be broadcast, but its quality leaves much to be desired.

Lesson: How to connect sound on TV via HDMI

Problems with connecting a laptop to another device via HDMI are common, but many of them are easy to solve. If they cannot be resolved, then most likely you will have to change or repair the ports and / or cables, since there is a high risk that they are damaged.

We are glad that we were able to help you in solving the problem.

Poll: did this article help you?. How to connect a TV to a computer via hdmi in Windows 10: detailed instructions

In the case when Wi-Fi Direct is not configured, Miracast is not supported, there are no flash drives with a large volume, and we really want to see high-quality movies, we recall the HDMI connector. A great way to duplicate the image to another device without losing quality. Therefore, the question arises: how to connect the TV to the computer via HDMI in Windows 10 and what is required for this? The answer is below.

What do you need to connect?

    To connect, we need:

    • Laptop or desktop PC with HDMI output;
    • TV with HDMI input;
    • Two-way HDMI cable.

Attention! For high-quality pictures with an audio track, do not use adapters from HDMI to DVI and VGA, otherwise watching movies and photos will leave only negative emotions.

    Connection Instructions

So, to transfer the image to the TV, we need to connect two devices using a cable:

    1. Turn off the TV and laptop. This must be done, so as not to damage the contacts as a result of a possible spark.
    2. Connect the ends of the HDMI cable to the input and output connectors (TV and laptop, respectively).
    3. Turn on both devices.

Most likely, you will not see the projection of the laptop screen on the TV.

For this TV and PC you need to configure:

    1. Enter the “Menu” of the TV and find the “Input List” item. It can also be called by pressing the “Input” key on the remote control.
    2. In the list that appears, click on the input source: HDMI.
    3. After that, the image from the computer should appear on the TV.

But if this did not happen, the external signal transmission is disabled on the laptop or PC.

    To enable it you need:

    1. Press the WinP keys simultaneously.
    2. In the window that appears, select the type of projection.

The best way is the option “Only the second screen”, in which the image from your machine will be accurately copied to the TV screen, and the computer display itself will remain off. Choosing a different connection will lead to the simultaneous operation of two monitors, which has a distracting effect.

If your panel has a high resolution display, the transmitted image may be blurry or grainy.

To make full use of the resources of the TV screen, you need:

    1. Click RMB on the desktop.
    2. Select “Screen Settings”.
    3. In the window that appears, click “Advanced screen settings.”
    4. Then click on “Detect” and after displaying the parameters of the external screen, select the maximum resolution from the drop-down list.

Advice! If you don’t have cable TV, and IPTV hits your wallet a lot, you can watch TV through a computer: turn on online broadcasting or sopcast on your PC and broadcast the image on TV.

Why via HDMI cable there is no image on the TV from a computer (laptop)

In some cases, after connecting the TV to a computer or laptop using an HDMI cable, the image simply does not appear on the TV. Rarely, but it also happens that there is sound via HDMI, but no picture on the TV. Although, it seems to me that most often they face the opposite problem when there is an image, but there is no sound via HDMI.

In this article, we will try to deal exclusively with the problem of outputting images via an HDMI cable. It seems that everything is simple there, connected the TV to the computer, selected the desired input on the TV, and if necessary, on the computer, we also select the desired image output mode. And according to the idea, everything should already work. Instead, we see the inscription “No signal” on the tv.

Before moving on to some tips, see the instructions for connecting a TV to a computer via HDMI:

If you do everything according to the instructions, but there is no result, and the image on the TV did not appear, then now we will understand.

There is no signal on the TV via HDMI and no picture

1 First, you need to check the cable connection, and remember the HDMI input number on the TV to which the cable is connected. Check if the cable is well inserted into the output on a laptop or desktop computer. Then, check the cable connection on the TV, and be sure to look into which HDMI input you connected the cable to. They are signed. It looks like this:

For example, I connected the cable to the HDMI input under number 3. The fact is that on the TV there are most likely several inputs. And in the settings we will need to choose the one to which we connected the cable.

2 Check the settings on the TV. Select the appropriate HDMI input in the settings. Not always, after connecting the cable, the image from the computer immediately appears on the TV. Most likely, you will see the inscription “No signal”, or “Cable not connected”. There should be a button on the remote control from your TV that opens a menu with a choice of signal source. On Philips TVs, for example, this button is signed as SOURCES. We click on it, and from the list select the HDMI input with the desired number.

On LG TVs, this is the INPUT button. We click on it, and select the necessary source. On the new LG TVs on the Web OS, perhaps they already did something different. But, the scheme is always the same, on any TV (Samsung, SONY, LG): open the menu with the choice of the signal source, and select the HDMI input with the desired number (to which the cable is connected).

3 Check the settings on the computer. It is possible that the image output to the projector (TV, monitor) is disabled on the computer, so the picture does not appear on the TV and there is no signal. Checking is very simple. In Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 10, just press the WinP key combination and select one of the three image output options: Duplicate, Extend, Projector only.

If you have selected “Turn off the projector”, then the image via HDMI will not be output. In Windows 10, everything is about the same, only there the menu on the side of the screen appears.

4 If you still could not make friends with a computer with a TV, it would be nice to find out what is the reason: in the TV, in the computer, or in the cable. This is not difficult to do. Especially if you have another PC, TV, monitor with HDMI input, or another cable.

Try connecting your laptop, for example, to another TV or monitor. If everything works, then the problem is on your TV (which is unlikely). Thus, we eliminate the problem with the cable. Also, you can just take another laptop (even borrow from a neighbor) and connect it to a TV on which the image is not displayed. If everything works, then the problem is in your laptop (computer). What happens most often.

5 Another tip. Try updating the driver for the card with the HDMI-connected TV. Just download the driver from the website of the manufacturer of the laptop / card and install it.

What to do if the computer does not output the image via HDMI to the TV?

When we determined that the problem is in the computer, or laptop.

The card displays the image, and we actually connect to it. So, the problem may be in it. Yes, maybe something burned out there, etc. But, as a rule, a programmatic problem. Something with the driver of the card, or with the settings, the image does not go through HDMI.

Therefore, the first thing I advise is to update the adapter driver. If you have a laptop, then go to the official website of the manufacturer, search for your model, select the operating system that you have installed, and download the VGA driver. Then, run its installation.

If you have two adapters installed on your laptop, update the drivers for both. Maybe for example nVidia Graphics Driver, and Intel Graphics Driver like on my ASUS laptop.

And if you have a stationary computer, then download the driver from the website of the manufacturer of the card. You can see which card is installed in the device manager, or in the characteristics of the system unit.

If you were somehow able to solve the problem with displaying images on a TV using an HDMI cable, then share your advice in the comments. I will be grateful.

HDMI does not work on a laptop, what should I do?

The HDMI connector has become very popular in recent years, because unlike the VGA or DVI ports, it is capable of transmitting sound. Without exception, all modern laptops are equipped with an HDMI connector, which makes it easy to connect to a TV and display a picture on a large screen. In this article, we will look at how to solve a problem when HDMI does not work on a laptop. Follow the instructions below and you will surely fix the problem with the connection.

HDMI does not work on laptop. What to do

First of all, determine what kind of problem has arisen, because depending on the situation, there are different solutions.

After connecting to a TV, a blank desktop is displayed

In this case, the problem is not the cable or the HDMI connector, but that the TV acts as an extension of the laptop screen, that is, it is an additional area of your desktop. In this mode, if you, for example, move a window to the right or left (depending on the settings), you will see it on the TV screen.

In order to switch the display to the duplication mode, in which everything that happens on the laptop screen is displayed on the TV screen, do the following:

    1. Right-click on an empty area of the desktop;
    2. Depending on the version of the operating system, select the line “Screen Settings” or “Screen Resolution”;
    3. If the TV display is not found, click the “Detect” button;
    4. Find the Multiple Displays pop-up menu, select Duplicate These Screens, and then click Apply.

The laptop sees the connection, but there is no corresponding picture on the TV display

First, check that the connection is secure, the HDMI cable should not hang in the socket of the TV or laptop. Then carefully inspect the HDMI wire, in case of detection of kinks or damage, think about replacing the wire, perhaps this will solve the problem.

If everything is OK with the wire, then make sure that you select the correct jack when connecting to the TV. The fact is that some TV models have several HDMI ports, and by default in the settings the signal reception from only one of them is set.

Image is transmitted but no sound

In this case, you just need to correctly direct the sound signal. You can do this in the following way:

    1. Open the “Control Panel” and select the category “Equipment and Sound”;
    2. Go to the “Sound” section;
    3. In the “Playback” tab, depending on the configuration, select your card or TV, and then click “Apply”.

    If all else fails

Often the reason when it is not possible to connect the TV to the laptop via HDMI is the failure of the HDMI port itself (in particular, burnout).

In order to avoid such a problem as the burnout of the HDMI port, it is recommended to disconnect the satellite dish or cable from the TV before connecting with the cable. If the socket from which the devices are powered does not have grounding, disconnect the power from both devices before connecting with the HDMI cable.

In this case, malfunctions can occur both with the port of the laptop, and with the port of the TV. In order to determine which of the connectors has failed, try connecting another device to the laptop using the HDMI cable. Then do the same with the TV, i.E. Try to connect another laptop or computer to it via HDMI. In case of problems with one of the devices, it is recommended to contact a service center for qualified assistance.

I recently bought a TV for myself, and somehow earlier there was no need to use an HDMI cable at all. But then relatives came home. And I decided to shows and photos. I stick in the cable, but there is no picture and no sound either. In general, I struggled with this problem, but still managed to solve it. Today I will tell you why HDMI does not work on a laptop and how to solve this problem.

And so, first of all, look at the integrity of the cable. A friend of mine had a cat, so he bit the wire from the XBox and he could not long understand why there was no image. They rarely burn, but still it is worth checking. Now let’s go to the settings. The configuration will be the same for all versions of Windows: 10, 8, 7, etc.

    1. How to enable it?
    2. No sound
    3. Driver Installation and Verification

    How to enable it?

The best way to fix the problem and understand what’s wrong is to do it all over again.

    1. Carefully insert one end of the cable into the connector on your laptop or computer, and the other into the HDMI port on the TV or other device.
    1. In any free field of the desktop, right-click and select the desired section.
    1. Under the screen with the number. Select the second item.
    1. Next, we are offered several options. To display the monitor screen, it is better to choose the first or fourth option. After that, click “Apply.”

For faster inclusion of the display mode and screen duplication, you can simultaneously press two keys “Win” (located between the keys “Ctrl” and “Alt”) and the English button “P”. After that, just select the mode. Just do not mix it up. You just have to click on the English letter.

    No sound

    1. First, let’s check if sound is being output to the second device. Let me remind you that a cable of this format should quietly output both sound and images on the screen. Click “Start” and then enter the word “Sound” in the search bar. Next, select this section.
    1. Go to the “Playback” tab. Now you should see there the name of your TV with the inscription “TV”. Right-click and select “Use this device by default.” Do not forget to click “Apply.” If there is still no sound, go to the next chapter.

    Driver Installation and Verification

And so, I remind you that the HDMI output comes directly from the card. It doesn‘t matter if it’s built-in or separate. Our task is to install newer drivers.

    1. We press simultaneously on two keys “WinR”. Next, we prescribe the command as above in the picture.
    1. Go to the “Adapters” section. Click on our card with the right button and then “Update drivers.”.
    1. Immediately select the first item and wait until the system finds a new driver on Microsoft servers. If a driver is found, install it. But it is not always possible to update the software in this way. Sometimes the system does not find anything and you see a message that the driver does not need to be updated. In fact, he just did not find him.
    1. To install the exact driver you need to find out the name of your card. As you may have noticed, the name appears in the same place in the “Device Manager”. Then just enter it into the search engine and download the driver from the official site.
    1. Do not forget to specify the operating system. Download only the latest driver and full pack. After downloading, install and reboot the device.

If this does not help and there is still no picture on the TV, then try a different port on the TV and on the laptop (if there is one). Otherwise, you need to take some other wire, perhaps the one you are using is broken or not compatible by standards. The cable can be checked by connecting another laptop or computer to it.

Problems with connecting a laptop to another device via HDMI are common, but many of them are easy to solve. If they cannot be resolved, then most likely you will have to change or repair the ports and / or cables, since there is a high risk that they are damaged.
