Go Pro 8 Review

Surface Pro

Microsoft has been using the current Surface Pro design since the Surface Pro 3 launched in 2014. And over time, this 2: 3 aspect ratio design has become iconic. Microsoft has made fairly modest improvements over the years, including a passively cooled i5 version, an adjustable stand, better cameras, better thermal performance, a larger display, and an improved Surface Pen. But the design started to get dated by 2018 as other companies moved towards thinner bezels and Intel Thunderbolt 3 support.

While the release of the Surface Pro 7 improved things with an 11th Gen Intel processor and larger battery, it was only intended for business users. At the time, we assumed that Microsoft was planning to significantly update the Surface Pro, but not alienate enterprise users who rely on intergenerational continuity. This hypothesis turned out to be correct as the Surface Pro 8 is a brand new tablet with relocated ports and new ones, and will not be compatible with accessories such as a keyboard from the previous generation Surface Pro.

Luckily for Surface Pro fans, the new Surface Pro 8 is flawless. Battery life could always be better, of course, but with the new design, larger display with 120Hz refresh rate, new Slim Pen 2 with charging storage, thinner bezels, and more, this is perhaps the most interesting update to the most popular Surface.

With the Surface Pro turning 10 next June, the Surface Pro 8 is a respectable tribute to one of the most significant computers of the modern era.

Bottom line: Surface Pro 8 is finally reaching its full potential with a completely redesigned design by 2021. With Thunderbolt 4, LTE support, 120Hz display, new tactile thin nib, 11th Gen Intel processor and new color scheme, it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC

I decided to start a close acquaintance with the Samyang lens line with the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC model. This is, in its own way, a unique lens that does not have analogues in all photographic systems, moreover, it has a much lower cost than proprietary autofocus lenses.

As the name suggests, the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC is a 14mm wide-angle lens. To finally place all the dots above the i, it is necessary to clarify: this is a full-frame wide-angle. A focal length of 14 mm when mounted on a camera with a 24×36 mm matrix will provide a viewing angle of 115.7 °. This is less than that of fisheye lenses, but the image will be fundamentally different: Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 has a corrected geometry and does not bend space in the frame, like a “fish eye”.

f / 8 Unlike fisheye, there is no geometry distortion.

Before moving on to shooting, let’s take a closer look at the lens. Despite the fact that the body and the built-in hood are plastic, the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 is quite heavy. It weighs a little over half a kilogram. Affected by the complex optical design of 14 lenses, combined into 10 groups. The largest lens is the front. It is she who largely determines the dimensions of the entire lens. Its diameter and radius of curvature are so large that the lens cap is not a usual disc with latches, but a plastic tube that is put on the hood.

The lens is equipped with two rings. manual focus and manual iris. Focusing is possible from 28 cm.The ring has a very large and smooth stroke. just what you need for manual focusing.

Well, are we going to take pictures? I’m going to Arkhangelskoe. a stunningly beautiful park in the Moscow region. It would seem, why is an ultra-wide angle in the park spaces? But due to the huge viewing angle and peculiar perspective distortions, this lens allows you to get in the frame just an amazing transfer of space: a huge sky with clouds flying to the sides.

Even a slight tilt of the camera provokes the strongest perspective distortion. This should always be remembered when holding a wide-angle lens. I use this feature of the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC as a creative tool. I like pictures with such distortion, they look unusual.

f / 8 Even a slight tilt of the camera provokes perspective distortion

f / 8 If you want to get smooth walls in the picture. keep the camera level

The lens conveys space in the frame in a very unusual way.

f / 8 I use distortion as a creative tool

Still, the main advantage of a 14 mm lens is the ability to fit into one frame all the space that cannot be captured by any other lens. I fully felt this when shooting in a shady gallery of living plants. Quite a narrow space in life, in the pictures it looks like a huge hall.

review

For the second example, I did not have to go far: not far from the ravine is a dilapidated rotunda. I really wanted to shoot it together with the bridge, but I couldn’t do it with other lenses, or the pictures didn’t look impressive enough. The main difficulty when shooting was to observe the tilt of the camera so that no strong distortions appear.

f / 8 A slight change in the shooting point completely removes glare from the frame

By the way, from these frames one can not only estimate the angle of view of the lens, but also draw a conclusion about two of its other characteristics: the level of chromatic aberrations and the ability to keep backlighting. Of course, a highly convex front lens will catch glare under certain conditions. When the sun is in the frame, no wide-angle lens is immune to them. But as soon as you rebuild the frame, the glare disappears. At the same time, high contrast throughout the entire field of the frame is maintained in any lighting. The lens holds back light very well. The situation with chromatic aberrations is very positive: they are practically invisible even at the frame’s periphery. And the best part: the smallest tree branches are not eaten by aberrations.

f / 8 No chromatic aberration is noticeable even at the periphery of the frame

f / 4 Backlit image contrast does not drop

Since we are talking about the technical side of the issue, it’s time to evaluate the sharpness of the lens at different apertures. Contrary to popular belief about the unsharpness of ultra-wide angles, the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC is pleasing to the eye even at open apertures. Pay attention to the flowerbed in the foreground. The detail is high enough to make out every flower. Naturally, with a decrease in the aperture opening, the sharpness of the images also increases. At f / 4, the result is even better.

The optimal result, in my opinion, is obtained at f / 8. By the way, in this scene, the background of the landscape appears in sharpness at f / 8. By it, you can appreciate the high detail in the corners of the picture.

If you prefer to shoot wide open, keep in mind that the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC vignette heavily at f / 2.8. For me, this is not so much a drawback as another powerful creative tool: you can focus the viewer’s attention on the center of the frame, darken the corners. At f / 4, vignetting diminishes significantly, and at f / 8, there is no trace of it.

f / 2.8 There is noticeable vignetting at open apertures

Not quite the profile use of the wide-angle is close-up shooting. But I can’t resist taking a few of these shots. Again, the short focal length of the lens allows you to get a distant picture that is not quite familiar. He is strongly pushed back, a space appears in the frame, which was not even in real life. And the foreground stands out effectively. Shooting is possible from a relatively small distance, only 28 cm from the plane of the matrix. And even less from the front lens.

Well, and the most burning question: how comfortable is it in the age of everything automatic to shoot without autofocus? After a relatively long shooting with the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC I can say: comfortable. The huge depth of field that this lens provides here plays into the hands of the photographer. You can miss it with sharpness, but you need to try. For half of the scenes, I did not use focusing through the viewfinder at all. The focusing ring has a distance scale. I used it most often: I set the approximate distance to the object even before shooting, and then photographed. Focus misses were negligible.

Summarize?

The Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC is the most affordable ultra-wide-angle full-frame DSLR available today. over, it does not have so many branded counterparts. If you don’t have enough money for them (and they are really expensive), then pay attention to the Samyang 14mm. Its optical quality is clearly higher than its price: high sharpness, extremely low level of chromatic aberration, excellent contrast even in backlighting. The only inconvenience may be manual focusing and manual aperture setting. But shooting practice has shown that focusing is much easier than it seems: thanks to the large depth of field, the lens forgives even the most gross mistakes when focusing. In short, the Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 ED AS IF UMC is a must-have lens for landscape and interior photography, as well as for creative photography.

Action Camera Accessories

The amazing features of the GoPro Hero 8 Black are not only in the camera, but also in the compatible accessories. There are three good additions on the market today: Display Mod, Media Mod and Light Mod, which expand the functionality of the new action camera.

  • Media Mod is a device with a built-in microphone, a 3.5mm jack for an additional microphone, USB-C and HDMI ports, and two more shoes for attaching accessories.
  • Display Mod. This is an additional swivel screen with its own battery that attaches to the back of the device and can be used for selfies.
  • The Light Mod is a device that is an LED flash that can be attached to a GoPro mount or Media Mod shoe and illuminate objects while shooting. The accessory can also be used as a flashlight.

GoPro Hero 8 Black review: the best action camera just got better

The Hero 7 Black has been the very best GoPro offering in a few years. The manufacturer introduced such good electronic image stabilization HyperSmooth into it that users no longer needed a stabilizer (gimbal) even when shooting trips on difficult tracks. This was a challenge for competitors. But, now there is a new Champion on the market. GoPro Hero 8 Black.

What else can you expect from GoPro? The company did not keep waiting long with the release of the Hero 8 Black with a built-in mount and the ability to combine the device with accessories from the Mods line, designed specifically for vlogging.

Battery autonomy

GoPro’s Hero 8 Black also uses a new battery type. At first glance, here is the same size and shape as before, with the same amount of power (1220 mAh), the difference is that the new battery provides a faster power delivery rate. This faster burst rate allows HyperSmooth 2.0 to be used at all resolutions and frame rates.

review

The battery in the GoPro Hero 8 Black is backward compatible with the Hero 5 Black cameras. But, the manufacturer warns that some functions will then not work. I ran two battery tests, the first at 4K 30 fps, HyperSmooth 2.0, Wi-Fi and GPS turned on. The camera lasted 80 minutes in this power mode. I would call this a promising, but not impressive result.

Hero 8 Black alternatives

You won’t find a better action camera today. The DJI Osmo Action boasts a widescreen display and roll-on filters, but otherwise outperforms the new GoPro. Of course, there are similar devices on the market and are cheaper, but they also have less opportunities.

GoPro Hero 8 Black has all the capabilities of a modern action camera. Here you will find a wide range of high-end options, an improved user interface and the best quality for recorded audio and video. Its only drawback is its small screen.

GoPro usually releases updates for its devices annually, the Hero 8 Black is no exception and should serve you faithfully for many years.

Design and features

The GoPro Hero 8 Black’s built-in HyperSmooth 2.0 electronic image stabilization works at all resolutions and frequencies. The option of additional leveling of the horizon allows you to get the best quality shooting. These and other features give the Hero 8 Black a new dimension over the Hero7 Black. In addition, this flagship model is further proof that GoPro is a very strong player in the action camera market.

The design of the device has not changed much compared to the previous version, but there are improvements in the design, they just do not immediately catch the eye. At the bottom of the case, you will find two protrusions that, through a few manipulations, turn into a proprietary GoPro mount. Let me remind you that in the previous model, in order to use a camera with a mount, you initially had to insert it into a frame or case.

At first glance, it might seem like the new GoPro Hero is bigger than the Hero 7, but it isn’t. Hero 7 has a bezel, juxtaposing the two devices together, it becomes clear that the eighth version is smaller. The lack of a frame in the Hero 8 makes it more comfortable. Now it is easier for the user to access the battery and memory card, and the side cap (door) allows you to quickly replace them.

The lens remains the same, but now it is protected by stronger and thicker glass, it protrudes less from the body, so the action camera has become thinner. This results in the inability to replace the glass yourself. Now, in order to use the filter, you need a frame.

GoPro Combo App

We only have the basic GoPro app, which includes the fantastic Quik app. When the software is loaded, you have a choice of which section to enter; or control your GoPro or View Media. Entering any of the sections offers the familiar, easy-to-use environment we’ve come to expect from GoPro.

Обзор GoPro Hero 8: что изменилось и стоит ли обновляться?

Another part of the application provides a secure connection, following the instructions on the screen, you can connect your device without any problems. After that, you can start and stop recording, switch shooting modes and adjust camera settings. The connection is solid, although I ran into a few issues when setting up and using streaming, while streaming to YouTube it was fine and it didn’t want to work in any way.

Electronic stabilization and other options

The main advantage of the Hero 8 Black is the new HyperSmooth 2.0 electronic image stabilization. Thanks to it, you get higher performance of the image stability, without significant crop cropping (no more than 10%). By reducing the field of view of the lens further in Boost mode, you can achieve an even better level.

However, during my tests of the GoPro Hero 8 Black, I never once had a need to improve stabilization. The HyperSmooth 2.0 system handled the tasks with ease, whether it was shooting while downhill or jogging. With this device, you can enjoy smooth professional quality video easily and easily.

The horizon leveling option takes stabilization to an even higher level, but you can only turn it on using the GoPro mobile app. The same feature is found in the GoPro Fusion 360 and is not often found on action cameras. But, in the case of the Hero 8, too much leveling of the horizon causes a noticeable cropping of the frame. This mode is most useful in cases where shooting in a fully horizontal position is not possible.

There is one feature in the GoPro Hero 8 that I love the most, and that is TimeWarp 2.0. The option allows you to create stabilized and smooth slow-motion or fast-motion video. The plus of the updated technology is that there are several new features here. The device automatically detects the shooting speed in this mode. In addition, the user can, by pressing the button, slow down the movement of objects in the video, and when pressed again, accelerate (turn on the hyperlapse mode).

review

Another innovation in Hero 8 Black is LiveBurst. When enabled, the camera saves 1.5 seconds of captured frames before and after pressing the shutter. After that, you can save any of the frames you like or the entire 3-second video footage. For general photography, the new GoPro features SuperPhoto with HDR imaging technology. The shots taken during testing were beautiful, moving objects were free of ghosting, and the ultra-wide lens allowed for more objects.

GoPro has a serious competitor this year. DJI OSMO Action. Of course, many still do not know about him, but this is definitely a good incentive to do better, faster, stronger.

And if at first glance it seems to someone that nothing has changed much, I liked the GoPro Hero 8 Black more than the GoPro Hero 7 Black. At least the quality of the video has become higher and definitely the eight showed itself better in night shooting.

The controls have also become more convenient, but I still have difficulties with post-processing and editing. Let me remind you that you need a powerful computer and programs that will read HEVC resolution and pull 4K. If you want to do editing on a smartphone, this is quite possible, but again you need a flagship, preferably not last year’s.

Bottom line, GoPro Hero 8 Black. is still the leader in its segment, and provides high-quality picture with the possibility of extreme and underwater filming in a compact size.

GoPro Hero 8 Black. опыт эксплуатации спустя год

Sometimes you find fault with every little thing, and then you eat. and I like everything. Consider this factor when making important decisions.

From user to user. From Odessa, with love for gadgets.

Control

Switching between modes is still slow, but faster than 7.

There are “quick workpieces”. You can adjust the video parameters you want and save the preset. For example, I need 4K 60 FPS and 1080p 240 FPS videos. In order not to select it manually every time, you can create presets that will be displayed as a list.

There is a GoPro app, from where you can control the camera remotely, view footage and edit video.

Editing used to be in a separate Quick application, now. in the native GoPro app. But I still don’t like it.

First, it automatically crops the video to a square, and automatically cuts the video as it sees fit. You have to turn off everything manually. Secondly, if you want to add text, it will automatically appear in the middle of the screen and you cannot move it anywhere. In general, the application is for those who are too lazy to engage in editing. I just threw a video and hope that he will collect all the most interesting.

Also, shooting at 4K 60 FPS is in HEVC resolution, and this must be taken into account when viewing on a computer or when editing on a computer. This time I did the editing on the Samsung Galaxy S10e smartphone through the native application.

Autonomy

Visually, the battery is slightly different in color (blue bottom). In general, it remained the same in its characteristics, but a new chip was installed. Therefore, old batteries are not suitable for the GoPro Hero 8. New ones, however. suitable for previous models from GoPro Hero 5.

Battery for GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

It is enough for about 2-3 hours of shooting, in my case at a temperature of 15. It charges 100% in about an hour, depending on the charging unit.

Appearance

Externally, Action Camera looks, at first glance, the same as the previous model. But the differences are significant. The size of the 8 has become a little larger. The microphone was brought out to the front.

GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

GoPro 8 is bigger, but still fits in the palm of your hand.

GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

The body has become more monolithic and the protective lens is no longer removable. The shutter button (start and stop recording) remained on top, in the same place.

GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

The mode / power button has been moved from left to right side. There is also another microphone.

GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

The left side is occupied by a cover that hides the USB Type C connector, battery and compartment for microSD card.

At the bottom is a new GoPro chip, thanks to which the protective case was abandoned. clamping rings. They fold back and are fixed to the mountings. Where is the speaker? Under the right ring.

The screen remains the same. If you want to be able to distinguish the 7th and 8th GoPro from the side of the screen, note that the inscription has shifted from the right side to the left, and the indicator has become a dot instead of a strip.

GoPro Hero 7 Black and GoPro Hero 8 Black

The GoPro Hero 8 comes with a USB C cable, a mounting buckle, a mounting screw, and a curved adhesive mount. 1 PC.

Example shooting GoPro Hero 8 Black

The GoPro 8 shoots at 4K 60 FPS with stabilization if the “snail” label is enabled, officially called “Slow motion”.

If you turn off the snail, the camera mode automatically switches to 4K 30 FPS. In this state, you can click on another shortcut. increased HyperSmooth or increased stabilization. But it will also shoot at 4K 30 FPS. I did not particularly notice the difference in stabilization between the regime with the “snail” and with the increased stabilization.

And in general, I want to see how the GoPro Hero 8 shoots during normal walking.

Overshoots and blackouts occur periodically, but overall the picture is good. Even against the sun.

There are 4 viewing angles: SuperView, Wide, Linear, Narrow. All 4 work only at 1080p. For 4K 60 FPS shooting, only Wide FOV is possible.

TimeWarp 2.0. it is fast-motion shooting with the possibility of slowing down at any moment. It is enough to press the icon. If the icon. gray, it means fast shooting, if blue. slow.

Thus, you can switch and create something creative at the shooting stage, rather than messing around with editing later. Here’s what it can do.

But to create Slow-Motion, you need an edition. No separate Slo-Mo mode, just shoot at 1080p 240 FPS and then slow down.

Night shooting is better with the GoPro Hero 8 than with the GoPro Hero 7 Black. The picture does not shake from walking and you can even run. She’s still not perfect, but still much better than she was.

The SuperPhoto mode has appeared. automatic photo processing depending on the scene you are shooting. For comparison: Standard, HDR and Superfotka. The latter looks better.

How the GoPro Hero 7 Black is different from the GoPro Hero 8 Black?

Now that you have reviewed all the materials, let’s summarize.

Overview of the graphics core Radeon Vega 8

The Radeon Vega 8 graphics core (GPU) was introduced in 2018 as part of AMD’s mid-range desktop and mobile APUs. The GPU is executed according to technological standards 7-12-14nm (Ryzen2000. 14nm, Ryzen3000. 12nm, Ryzen4000. 7nm, Ryzen5000. 7nm) and carries the GCN 5.0 architecture, has a base frequency of 300 megahertz and a maximum 1100-1250 megahertz, depending on from the processor. The graphics core does not have its own video memory, but takes memory from the RAM (no more than two gigabytes), which makes the graphics subsystem extremely dependent on the RAM frequency (the higher the frequency, the better the GPU performance). The core is extremely sensitive to the dual-channel RAM mode (when there are two memory sticks of the same size and frequency) and shows much better performance in this mode compared to the single-channel mode. Radeon Vega 8 is a budget integrated graphics core and will provide comfortable performance in undemanding modern games such as DOTA2, CS: Source, CS: GO, World of Tanks with medium graphics settings and 720p (1280720) or low graphics settings and 1080p ( 19201080). In modern demanding games: The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, at 720p (1280720) and minimum graphics settings, the frame rate will be 30-35, with a drop in the most difficult scenes up to 20-25. In older games like GTA V and Tomb Raider 2013, Radeon Vega 8 will provide a high comfortable FPS at medium to high graphics settings.

Note. AMD Ryzen4000 and Ryzen5000 APUs for desktop and mobile use the next generation 7nm graphics core. It provides 30% more performance than the above results.

Additional information: 1) For an additional increase in performance in games, disable the “vertical sync” option in the graphics settings. 2) The graphics core of the Radeon Vega 8 has excellent overclocking potential, but it requires a motherboard based on the B350, X370, B450 or X470 chipset. With competent and accurate overclocking, it is possible to get an additional 25% of the video core performance. Please note that you perform all overclocking operations at your own peril and risk.

Realme 8 Pro smartphone review: frequent

It seems as if realme 6 Pro, which just knocked out the door to the society of the most interesting smartphones, with its 90-Hz display, huge screen, dual front-facing camera and ultra-fast charging, came out just yesterday. In fact, almost a year has passed. Yes, during this time he did not have time to really become outdated, but the second model is already replacing him. The first was the autumn-winter realme 7 Pro, which could boast of an AMOLED display, but in terms of characteristics it was even inferior to its predecessor. which is why it took the place not of a follower, but of a smartphone that exists, as it were, in parallel. The second is a very fresh realme 8 Pro, which we are talking about today.

The new “grand middling” of the OPPO sub-brand, which has gone free, takes the key features of realme 7 Pro (same screen, same hardware platform, same battery) and imposes an updated design on them (it is a thinner and lighter smartphone) along with the direct answer of Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. a new four-camera system with a 108-megapixel module at the head. Is this enough for the status of a full-fledged replacement for realme 6 Pro. and will the new product be able to repeat its success a year ago??

Design, ergonomics and software

The appearance of realme smartphones of the “digital” series (and any other) does not have any intelligible design code. each next one is created as if from scratch, with a reaction to current trends. The apparent lack of a face of its own is offset by oozing relevance.

In realme 8 Pro, this relevance is manifested in three points. however, only two of them can be seen in the version that we got for testing. Firstly, it is a four-chamber block of cameras, made up of “burners”. the lenses are covered with larger glass than they really need. In the manner of everyone it is clear who. and more and more companies choose such design: from Samsung (including the closest competitor, Galaxy A52, received such a block) to neighbors and former “owners”, OPPO with the Reno5 model. Such a solution, of course, does not add individuality, but it looks very much even nothing.

Secondly, the body is as thin and light as possible. as possible for a smartphone with a 6.4-inch screen and a battery of four and a half thousand milliampere-hours. This is a completely fresh trend, while very few people have picked up. many still make 200-gram smartphones without batting an eye. Last year’s vivo V20 was the driving force behind this frenzy, and hopefully not only its closest relatives will follow the fashion. Let’s not forget that realme. like vivo, OPPO, and OnePlus. is part of the BBK concern.

realme 8 Pro, rear panel: in the upper left corner is the main camera, consisting of four modules, and a single LED flash

Thirdly, there are huge inscriptions on the back. It looks unusual, maybe a little clumsy and, probably, is already a little outdated in relation to world fashion. it seems that huge logos and labels are no longer so relevant. But they appeared on smartphones recently. Honor was the first to place a huge inscription in the 30 Pro model. On the case of realme 8 Pro is not the name of the company, but the inscription “Dare To Leap”. the slogan of the company, which realme itself translated into Russian as “Changing the standards”. Smartphones with an inscription are presented in blue, matte black and yellow (the most spectacular, in my opinion) versions. But there is also a realme 8 Pro in a black glossy case, devoid of a catchy lettering. this is what 3DNews got. Sadness, boredom and, obviously, the most popular option on sale. Not everyone likes bright and risky solutions.

The front panel looks standard by the standards of 2021: small (but not vanishingly small. the screen occupies only 83.3% of the surface) frames, a front camera in a corner hole, an inconspicuous earpiece grille. Both the front and back panels are covered with tempered glass. the smartphone is expected to be very slippery, it is better to immediately put it in a case, even if it is a complete one, made of soft transparent silicone. It is, by the way, very tight, pulling it on a smartphone is a dubious pleasure. Fortunately, this often does not need to be done.

realme 8 Pro, bottom side: speaker, USB Type-C port, mini-jack (3.5 mm), dual microphone

The edges are quite common. Made of plastic, we see a pair of standard-sized hardware keys on them (the fingerprint sensor, as in the realme 7 Pro, is located on the surface of the screen), a mini-jack, a USB Type-C port, a single speaker and microphones. Pay attention, by the way, to those on the bottom. a double is used, which should help with conversations, but I will immediately note that I did not notice a serious difference with smartphones with a conventional microphone.

Realme 8 Pro runs Android 11 (full-fledged, with Google Mobile Services) with Realme UI 2.0 shell. The shell has not changed conceptually, but it received a number of updates. and everything, perhaps, for the better. First of all, the new, “cleaner” notification panel and an even more serious set of options for adjusting the appearance of the system are striking. You can choose, for example, the shape of icons on the desktop (from six options), their color (from a rich palette. or let them be multi-colored), flexibly configure the Always-On Display screen (relevant for a smartphone with an organic LED display), set various animations for the fingerprint scanner and even choose one of three dark themes: as dark as possible, medium and completely gray. over, the darkening mode can be applied to wallpaper and icons, or you can not apply it.

And so on. there are a lot of settings in Realme UI 2.0, and they relate not only to the appearance of the system, but also to its operation. There is a sidebar for quick access to favorite applications (switchable) and an option to split the screen (you need to swipe the screen with three fingers, and if the application supports the function, it will be minimized). It is also possible to open applications in picture-in-picture mode. for this, you need to select the appropriate option from the manager of currently open applications. Finally, the left screen, as before, is occupied not by Google Now, but by the proprietary “Intelligent Assistant”, where you can also manually add various options that you need (like weather, calendar reminders, pedometer, and so on). You can turn it off, then the left screen will simply not be there. In general, the shell leaves a very pleasant impression. it logically develops the ideas of the previous Realme UI, removes roughness (problems with russification, which were in bulk earlier in realme and OPPO, I did not notice at all) and does not add new ones. The system works quickly, there are no built-in ads, as well as almost no pre-installed “extra” applications.

Display and sound

The realme 8 Pro has the same display as the realme 7 Pro: it uses a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels (density. 411 ppi). At the same time, its refresh rate is low. 60 Hz, and this is a bit unexpected: today, the release of a smartphone even in the middle price category without a high frequency mode seems to be a small challenge. The same last year’s realme 6 Pro had a 90-hertz mode, albeit on an LCD screen.

The matrix itself is normal. the viewing angles are free, the picture is juicy. High quality oleophobic coating.

The measured brightness limit without software boost during auto-adjustment is 501 cd / m2. excellent result for an OLED display.

In the display settings, you can change the font size, activate the blue filter, change the color temperature, activate the clock display system and notification icons on the locked smartphone. There is also a proprietary OSIE visual effect system, which expands the color gamut of the original image, “thinking out” the colors using a machine learning system. you can turn it off if you want, although I did not notice a serious effect on the picture. There are three color presets: Great, Vivid, and Tender. By default, the smartphone is set to bright mode. I measured the color rendering of the realme 8 Pro screen in bright and delicate modes. If desired, for each of them, you can separately adjust the color temperature.

realme 8 Pro, gamma in vivid color mode. Yellow line. realme 8 Pro performance, dotted line. reference range

realme 8 Pro, color temperature in vivid color rendering mode. Blue line. realme 8 Pro performance, dotted. reference temperature

realme 8 Pro, color gamut in vivid color rendering mode. Gray triangle. coverage DCI-P3, white triangle. coverage realme 8 Pro

In bright mode, the color space is roughly DCI-P3, as promised in the settings menu. The average range of shades of gray is not far from the norm. 2.29 with fairly stable curves. The color temperature is increased. in the range from 7,000 to 8,000 K. The average DeltaE deviation for the extended Color Checker palette (shades of gray, a wide range of color shades) is 3.78 (with a norm of 3 and a reference value of 2), which is not so bad.

realme 8 Pro, gamma in delicate color rendering mode. Yellow line. realme 8 Pro performance, dotted line. reference range

realme 8 Pro, color temperature in delicate color rendering mode. Blue line. realme 8 Pro performance, dotted. reference temperature

realme 8 Pro, color gamut in delicate color rendering mode. Gray triangle. coverage of sRGB, white triangle. coverage of realme 8 Pro

In the “soft” mode, the sRGB color space is already declared. and the color gamut roughly corresponds to the application, albeit with a slight deviation. The gamma remains almost unchanged. 2.30. The temperature warms up, approaching the reference value of 6,500 K, but still does not reach it. on average, it is 7,000 K. The average DeltaE deviation according to the extended Color Checker palette is getting worse. 4.35. Yes, the picture in this mode is really warm and “delicate”, but it does not become more accurate. Our advice is to leave the default mode by tweaking the color temperature a little.

A very strange thing happened with the sound capabilities of realme 8 Pro. the smartphone suddenly lost its stereo speakers, which were on both realme 6 Pro and realme 7 Pro. Why the new generation device received a mono speaker when positioned in the same class is unknown. Otherwise, everything is like people. there is a mini-jack with an acceptable acoustic channel, there is support for key Bluetooth profiles (LDAC, aptX, aptX HD).

Acquaintance

The realme smartphone brand is developing rapidly all over the world. Just a couple of years ago, they broke into the Russian market, presenting devices for every taste and wallet. And now the company’s portfolio includes flagship devices and smartphones of the middle and low price segment. In 2021, the brand celebrated the sale of its one hundred millionth smartphone, and also introduced fast wired and wireless charging technologies along with new flagships.

Today we are talking about realme 8 Pro, an extremely curious smartphone that can be called one of the best value for money solutions.

There were some compromises: the smartphone is enclosed in a plastic case, but it is pleasant to the touch, we liked the colors. On the back wall, in addition to the logo, there is the motto of the Dare To Leap brand (“Change the standards”). The back panel does not catch prints and does not slip. Comes with a silicone case.

But inside there are no compromises: a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, 6 GB of RAM and a 128 GB drive, a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, a large 4500 mAh battery with support for 50 W fast charging.

The smartphone stands out with its main camera. Unfortunately, her block protrudes a little. As part of the quad camera realme 8 Pro:

  • 108-megapixel main camera with a wide-angle lens 26 mm (equiv.) And f / 1.9 aperture, phase detection autofocus, sensor size. 1 / 1.52 ″;
  • 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera 16 mm (eq.) With f / 2.3 aperture;
  • 2-megapixel macro camera with f / 2.4 aperture and 4 cm focal length;
  • 2-megapixel camera with black and white module and f / 2.4 aperture.

We would say that realme 8 Pro has 2.5 cameras: macro is still sometimes needed. At the same time, the black and white module helps the smartphone to accurately process the contours of models in portrait mode and more.

The selfie camera in the realme 8 Pro is hidden in a hole in the upper left corner of the display. Its resolution is 16 megapixels. The camera is equipped with a wide-angle lens with an aperture of f / 2.4.

Now more about the capabilities of the camera itself.

Modes Modes are conventionally divided into preset and customizable. The 3 automatic modes are arranged so that it is convenient to select them in a certain situation. Let’s take a look at the presets that GoPro offers themselves:

Standard. Regular shooting. When you have seen something beautiful and there is no time to dig into the settings.

Sports. For sports and outdoor activities. Accent on colors and clarity to capture the highlight. Choose when to capture cycling, skiing, and more.

Cinematic. For beauty. Maximum resolution to convey everything that the G8 can capture. Choose this mode for landscapes, waterfalls, underwater and other colorful moments.

Customizable modes offered by the camera:

Viewing angle: super view. For shooting from the first person. Dynamically stretches a higher perspective like 4: 3 to 16: 9. Super View is removed with attachments on the helmet and chest to make the picture look like what we see in life.

Viewing angle: wide. A mode in order to absorb as much of the surrounding as possible into the image. Suitable for landscapes. Turn on the mode when you want to show the scale.

Viewing angle: linear. Narrower angle for capturing people and events. Suitable for portraits. Choose it if you are around people who are doing something spectacular.

Viewing angle: standard. A mode for shooting close-ups without a fisheye. Macro for those who are reluctant to use macro lenses.

Timewarp 2.0. Improved timewarp from 7. It is a combination of time lapse and HyperSmooth. Helps make motion time-lapse smooth. Previously, it was impossible to control the speed, now it is possible. To make shooting easier, added automatic focusing on the subject during Timewarp 2.0 This smart focusing was called ramp.

Live burst. Rather special treatment than a regime. To use, you need to install the GoPro App. It is arranged in the same way as Live Photos on an iPhone. You select a frame, the program selects 1.5 seconds of material before and after that. The output is a photo with video context. It looks spectacular if the object in the center is static, and the surrounding world is moving.

Super Photo. It is also the HDR auto-adjustment mode. Takes literally bright pictures in different lighting conditions. Tone mapping and noise reduction. Superphoto has been optimized, now it works better with dynamic subjects.

Equipment

The package bundle has not changed, except for one detail. The box now contains only one adhesive mounting platform. The HERO7 was curved and flat, the HERO8 only curved. These platforms attach the camera to the helmet.

The rest of the package is the same: Camera Battery Curved adhesive mount Mounting buckle USB-C cable Mounting screw

The battery can power the HERO7 and 6, but not vice versa. The camera will be able to work, but will show notifications asking you to use the original batteries.

What’s new in GoPro HERO8 Black

GoPro HERO8 Black announced. The camera continues the Hero lineup, and has taken good ideas from the seventh version. Let’s take a look at the changes: what have been upgraded and upgraded by GoPro in the new model.

Frame

External changes first. The camera is smaller and lighter. Action cameras are loved for their portability, so the company went in that direction. The dimensions were cut due to the reworking of the fastening method. Don’t worry, tripods and mounts will still work. Let’s tell you more.

Appearance

GoPro HERO8 Black looks like a 7-ku. Due to the new stationary mount from the bottom, the battery is now inserted from the side. There will also be slots for charging and memory cards. Smooth housing with microphone holes on the sides and new under the lens.

The weight and size of the chamber are reduced by 11%. Now it’s about 103g instead of 116. The size of the action camera has also decreased proportionally. Minor change, but overall HERO8 takes up less space.

Microphones

GoPro has dropped the mandatory bezels. Therefore, the side microphones are no longer covered by anything. In addition, an additional microphone appeared under the lens. This will make it easier for the camera to record sound in the direction of the shot.

Feature Updates

Updated Hyper smooth. stabilization from HERO7 is now improved and works with other modes. The algorithm was reworked to apply to 4K at 60 fps. Before that, the camera could not do that. Crop stayed the same at 10%. Increased resolution for live broadcasts. The camera now streams in Full HD. Stream live social media from the epicenter of your holiday. The camera understands Russian. Voice control just got easier and more intuitive. Voice services often take a long time to learn to recognize Russian speech. GoPro has done everything in advance, and the action camera will be controlled by voice from the start of sales.

New mount

A built-in mount was installed on the lower edge of the figure-eight. A pair of standard “ears” are now built-in. Similar to the GoPro Fusion mount. Previously, we installed the camera in a frame, and already connected the frame, for example, with a selfie stick. We attach the “8” to the selfie stick directly. GoPro Dropped Bezel To Free Up Microphones And Lose Weight.

About the new “ears”. The built-in mount must be strong, so it was made metal. Now the “ears” themselves are stronger. In the new design, they fold into special recesses on the sides. Therefore, the camera still fits in cases, frames and boxes.
