Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

In tests, the 46mm version ran for 24 hours. with activated heart rate (pulse) measurement, sleep tracking, constant time display and notifications, but without the power-hungry GPS, exercise recording, or music features. 42 mm version in practical tests with similar functions activated, lasted 2 hours less

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic work:

Anyone who has ever held a Samsung Gear or Galaxy Watch in their hands will quickly get used to using a smartwatch. On the display, you can quickly navigate in all directions using the touchscreen: notifications are shown from left to right.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic menu

Each of these “widgets” has its own function, such as exercise menu, heart rate measurement and weather display. The quick menu opens from top to bottom, which also leads to quick activation of the desired function. In addition, the user can navigate the menu elegantly by rotating the ring frame. Commands can be configured in the clock settings in the sections “Additional functions”, “Configuring buttons”.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Series Compatibility with Apple and Android:

With the software update, Samsung is turning its back on Apple more and more. Galaxy Watch 4 only works with Android and therefore no longer works with iPhone. Compatible operating system Android 6.0. and higher. ECG and blood pressure measurements only work with Samsung mobile phones.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic health features:

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic records steps, sleep in daily life. The smartwatch also recognizes if you are seriously down and then contacts emergency services. Like the Galaxy Watch 3, Series 4 measures blood oxygen saturation. This is selective and can be recorded at night with sleep tracking.

But that’s not all: if you activate snore detection in the Samsung Health app, the cell phone microphone records when you snored at night and, if necessary, records sound. It all works with any paired Android phone.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic display:

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is available in four sizes: the basic version without ring bezel with 40 and 44 mm cases and the classic version with 42 and 46 mm bezel and case. They also have displays of different resolutions:

  • 40 and 42 mm: 1.19 inches (30.4 mm) 396 x 396 pixel display;
  • 44 and 46 mm: 1.36 inches (34.6 mm) 450 x 450 pixel display.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

All screens work with AMOLED technology, have an extremely high resolution and once again increased pixel density compared to their predecessors. The result is a sharp, bright, colorful, high-contrast image that’s easy to read from any angle.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. features and functions:

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has several smartwatch features on board.

The Galaxy Watch 4 has several standard apps, these include calculators, weather, COMPASS, find your phone, stopwatch, alarm, timer, world clock, photo gallery, remote control, camera and music, and voice recorder. All mentioned programs worked fine in tests.

Messaging: Smart watch displays incoming messages from mobile phone.

Voice control: recordings can be made on the watch using the T9 keyboard, scribble function or microphone. However, in tests, the watch understood speech input only to a moderate extent. Bixby’s voice assistant (which can be reached with a long press of the top button) recognizes very well what you say and reacts if it does not exceed its capabilities. For example, a voice assistant answers a question about the weather or opens an application.

Music: transferring music tracks to the watch so far and until now only works with MP3 tracks via the Galaxy Wearable app on a smartphone (via watch settings, content management, adding tracks).

Fitness functions:

Samsung has exercise, fitness and health features over the previous Galaxy watch. This means that automatic workout recognition carries over to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. In the tests, the watch easily determined even ordinary walks of ten minutes or more. There are many more sports modes: running, push-up, swimming, jumping rope, squat, walking, abs, cycling, yoga, dance sports, exercise routine, or gym equipment. After the initial software update to version XXU1BUH9, the heart rate measurement in the test proved to be accurate. Outdoor sports route recording also worked great.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. processor memory, communication, sensors:

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic series works with the new Samsung Exyons 920 processor. It is manufactured using 5-nanometer process technology and therefore, according to the manufacturer, is energy efficient and fast. The processor works quickly in tandem with 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. 7.6 GB of 16 GB of built-in shared memory can be used for applications, music, photos. The smartwatch is available in two versions: the “Bluetooth” version connects to the network via a cell phone connected via Bluetooth 5.0 or WLAN, the “LTE” version creates a cellular connection. in combination with an eSIM tariff. on its own.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic GPS navigation

As for the sensors, there are position sensors (GPS, Glonass, Beidou and Galileo) for teaching and navigation, the barometer measures the altitude, the COMPASS shows the direction.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. features, capabilities, price.

Samsung relies on well-known unique smartwatch advantage again.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 brings back a rotating bezel around the smartwatch display. There are no updates in the software for the ECG and blood pressure measurement functions. The watch works through Outlook and has a new oxygen saturation measurement function. The advantages of previous models, such as automatic workout detection, running coach mode, messaging and music functions, remain in the new version of the watch, which is especially pleasing to users.

On the one hand, the manufacturer is bringing back the old look of the watch with a rotating bezel around the display and, at the same time, like a real sports watch, it offers many health and fitness features.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. battery life without additional charging:

The battery in the smaller version has a capacity of 247 mAh, while the larger watch has a capacity of 340 mAh. In tests, the larger version ran for about a day and a half without additional recharging, with constantly activated time display, location request and Wi-Fi, as well as training and GPS recording. Smaller hours only lasted one day in trials, with time display always on and no workout recording.

Fitness features of the new Galaxy Watch 3:

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has the same sensors as the Galaxy Watch Active 2. The GPS sensor records your exercise route. Thanks to the barometric sensor, the user knows the atmospheric pressure and temperature, which is important, for example, when walking. The watch only transfers recorded workouts to the Samsung Health app if location information is activated in Settings (under Menu, Settings Wheel).

During the test, the heart rate sensor worked, correctly detecting the heart rate.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 heart rate measurement with smartphone app

Like its predecessors, the new Galaxy Watch 3 offers sophisticated workout and fitness features:

  • Auto Workout Detection. This feature automatically records your workouts: walking, running and cycling, jumping, squatting, push-ups, and more. For example, the algorithm easily recognizes a regular walk or run.
  • The “running coach” function determines the pace and distance of running for the user, taking into account his goals, which the user himself can set in the application settings. In this function, the watch visually and acoustically reminds the user of the correct pace while running. Running Coach settings S-Health apps available.
  • If you exercise with the Galaxy Watch, you have a variety of modes to choose from. The watch counts push-ups, squats, skipping rope, steps, exercising on simulators, measuring running, exercise bike, swimming. To start recording these training modes, users must assume a predefined starting pose that the motion sensors must recognize.

  • SM-R845: 45mm, LTE in Silver, Black.

In addition, a titanium version is presented for the first time. Samsung continues to use stainless steel smartwatch technology.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. price, options:

Samsung is clearly targeting Apple in terms of pricing for the next generation of smartwatches, so in the watch segment are not cheap. Previous Galaxy Watch models were significantly cheaper, such as the initial

Other wellness and sports functions:

Oxygenation: Galaxy Watch 3 still lacks the VO2max calculation to help athletes classify their fitness level.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Blood Oxygen Saturation

  • For the first time, the watch measures blood oxygen saturation, the SpO2 value can be measured through a menu item in the S-Health app. Sit motionless when measuring.
  • You can activate the new “fall detection” feature, just like on the Apple Watch. This function is activated in the application on the smartphone in the Home SOS section. If you fall seriously, you can send your location with predefined coordinates and even send an emergency call to the number listed in the app. Emergency calls can also be made manually by pressing the Home button three times.
  • The manufacturer plans to install a blood pressure measurement function in the Galaxy Watch 3, which will be displayed in the Samsung Health Monitor application. However, it won’t be available until 2021. Feature: if this function is working, then blood pressure measurement is performed continuously. this will allow you to identify health problems at an early stage.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG): This is an ECG (electrocardiogram) function that can be set in the Health Monito app.
  • Cycle tracker: For women, the watch has a cycle tracker that predicts the menstrual cycle. It can be added to the clock as a widget. Recordings can be done by the hour.

In addition, the watch has the ability to turn on and listen to music or radio, answer calls.

Equipment

The watch comes in a square black box with white inscriptions and a picture of a watch for some reason on the side.

Inside the box. the watch itself with a silicone strap, a charging dock, a Micro-USB cable, a 5 V 700 mA charger, an additional half of a strap of a different size and leaflets.

In general, as regards the equipment, there is nothing strange and deserving a separate mention. Note that we had a sample on our tests, and commercial PCT copies will have a socket plug, of course, of the European type, and not of the American one.

In the fall of this year, Samsung began selling a new generation of its smartwatches in Russia. the Samsung Galaxy Watch. Despite the fact that the name of the entire line was changed (the manufacturer abandoned the Gear brand in favor of a more universal and understandable Galaxy Watch), the differences between the new item and the immediate predecessor of the Gear S3 are small: the body of the 46 mm version remained practically unchanged, as well as the screen. but a new processor, full-fledged moisture protection and a battery of increased capacity appeared. In addition, in addition to the 46 mm version, a 42 mm version was also released, last year it was not, and it was this version that came to us for testing.

I must say, Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that continues to steadily release new versions of smartwatches. Most of the competitors decided that there was no point in competing with Apple for a small market, so they safely curtailed the development. Or at least significantly reduced their intensity. So, for example, Sony, Asus, LG released the latest novelties in this area more than a year and a half ago.

However, Samsung, which seems to be trying not to give Apple “an inch” of the market, consistently updates its line of smart watches once a year. And 2018 was no exception. But renewal is not the same. The question is, does it make sense to buy a new product for those who have already acquired a Samsung watch before? And how does the Galaxy Watch compare to its main competitor, the recently updated Apple Watch Series 4? We will talk about this in our article.

For starters. traditional characteristics.

Software and work with a smartphone

The watch runs on Tizen 4. Despite the fact that the operating system has received a new version compared to Samsung Gear S3, there have been no radical changes in the interface and functionality. Strictly speaking, everything is almost the same here as it was before. This applies to both communication capabilities and fitness functions.

Separately, I would like to dwell on the issue of how the watch works in conjunction with the iPhone. In fact, here it is necessary to make a reservation that any criticism should take into account the lack of multi-platform functionality of the main competitor. That is, if the Samsung Galaxy Watch can be used with an iPhone, then the Apple Watch will not make friends with an Android smartphone in any way. So for the support of the devices from the hostile camp of the South Korean manufacturer, one can only praise.

However, one must understand that not everything is so smooth here. At first glance, in conjunction with the iPhone, the watch works quite normally and seems to provide all the functionality inherent in it. But suddenly you can come across details that call this into question. For example, on the watch, you can take screenshots of the screen without any problems. But how can you get them out of there? In the case of an Android smartphone, the operation is simple: by marking the required screenshot in the Gallery, you see three dots, click on them and find the item “Send to phone”. If the watch is used together with an iPhone, the three dots simply will not exist. Therefore, you will not be able to transfer screenshots in any way. That is, it simply won’t make sense to shoot them.

Galaxy Watch 4 Tips Tricks & Hidden Features!!!

This, of course, is a detail that is of little importance for most users. But it shows the principle itself: with external multiplatformity, the watch is focused, of course, on Android smartphones in the first place. Therefore, if suddenly something does not work on the iPhone, you should not be surprised.

In general, the Samsung Galaxy Watch is one of the most functional smartwatches, along with the Apple Watch. So if you are looking for maximum opportunities, you have to choose between these two models.

Screen

The screen diameter of the 42mm version is 1.2 ″ and the resolution is 360 × 360. The larger model had the same number, therefore, in the new version, the pixel density increased. And what about the other characteristics? Detailed display testing was conducted by Alexey Kudryavtsev.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface that is resistant to scratches. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (effective, noticeably better than that of Google Nexus 7 (2013)), so fingerprints are removed much easier, and appear at a slower speed than in the case of ordinary glass. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than those of the Google Nexus 7 2013 screen. For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the switched off screens:

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 42 mm is noticeably darker (the brightness in the photos is 77 versus 118 for the Nexus 7). The reflection doubling is weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen. In the settings there is a brightness adjustment slider (10 steps). When the white field was displayed on the whole screen, the maximum value (9 on the scale) of brightness was 340 cd / m², the minimum (0 on the scale). 10 cd / m². This is in complete darkness or moderate light conditions. In strong light conditions (a clear day outdoors without direct light from the sun and brighter), the screen brightness always rises to 565 cd / m², which, taking into account the excellent anti-glare properties, will make it possible to see the watch displayed on the screen even in such conditions. There is a switch for automatic brightness control in the settings, but no effect of this switch on the brightness of the screen was detected. The light sensor itself in conditions of strong side illumination can be seen under the screen:

There is no pronounced modulation on the graphs of the dependence of brightness (vertical axis) on time (horizontal axis) (9 is in conditions of strong external illumination):

However, with fast eye movements or in the test for stroboscopic effect at medium and low screen brightness, some flickering is visible, apparently, the modulation is distributed among zones, and several zones fall into the sensor’s field of view. However, it is unlikely that just such a flicker, which is difficult to see, will lead to an increase in fatigue, especially given the fact that there is no particular point in looking at the watch screen for a long time.

This screen uses a Super AMOLED matrix. an active matrix on organic light-emitting diodes. A full-color image is created using subpixels of three colors. red (R), green (G) and blue (B) in equal numbers, which is confirmed by a fragment of the micrograph:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

We observed a similar “structure” of the screen, for example, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini smartphone. The spectra are typical for OLED. the areas of primary colors are well separated and appear as relatively narrow peaks:

Accordingly, the coverage is noticeably wider than sRGB, and there are no attempts to reduce it:

Note that the colors of ordinary images optimized for devices with sRGB screens appear unnaturally saturated on screens with a wide gamut without appropriate correction:

Pay attention to the tomatoes and the shade of the girl’s face. The color temperature of the white and gray field is approximately 7200 K, and the deviation from Spectra of the absolute black body (ΔE) is 6 units. The color balance is good. Black is just black at all angles. It is so black that the contrast parameter is simply not applicable in this case. When viewed from a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the white field is excellent. The screen has excellent viewing angles with much less brightness drop when viewed from an angle compared to LCD screens. In general, the screen quality can be considered very high.

For clarity, let’s put into the table the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Watch, comparing them with the characteristics of the Samsung Gear S3 and, of course, the Apple Watch Series 4.

So, in comparison with its predecessor, the main advantages of the novelty are in a new, faster processor, full-fledged moisture protection, a battery of significantly higher capacity (if we compare the larger model from the new ones). However, when compared with a competitor, the picture is no longer so good: first, let’s pay attention to the amount of built-in storage. The second point is the presence of sensors (Samsung watches cannot take ECG). And the third is the thickness. This is where Apple’s product wins, too. But. we will not draw conclusions before we get acquainted with Samsung watches “in person”.

Top 15 Unknown Samsung Galaxy Watch Features!

Autonomous work

We traditionally find it difficult to estimate the battery life of smartwatches, since there are no objective measurement tools, and the real scenario varies too much depending on the user’s activity. But if we estimate approximately, then a day and a half is the period for which the owner of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 42 mm can safely count on.

In practice, this means that the watch must be charged every night. Although if you turn off a number of functions that actively consume a charge in a constant mode (for example, periodic heart rate measurement), you can try to “squeeze” out of the device two days and, thus, charge overnight. For modern smartwatches, this is an average result, although you cannot call it bad. For the new Apple Watch, for example, things are about the same.

Design

The appearance of the watch itself, in fact, has not changed much compared to the previous model. It’s still a pretty massive case with a recessed screen, two buttons on the right, and a rotating bezel. The spirit of the design and its functionality are preserved.

Perhaps the main difference is the smaller notches on the bezel. And it’s a matter of taste. which is better: like the Gear S3 or like the Galaxy Watch. Subjectively, the previous version is nicer and more functional. Purely tactilely, such small notches are not very comfortable. However, we admit, it’s a matter of habit.

In addition, again, according to the sensations, the strap has become a little different. And we also find it difficult to say whether it is better or worse. But what’s definitely bad is the lack of choice: silicone and nothing else. Why doesn’t Samsung release leather, metal, and other options like its main competitor? over, the watch is positioned as an element of the classic style. Needless to say why classic style doesn’t fit in with silicone.

On the other hand, if you are going to actively use the watch in the pool. and it is this opportunity that appeared in the new version due to increased protection (5 ATM), then there are no alternatives to the silicone strap.

Actually, full-fledged moisture protection and the appearance of a more compact “female” version (42 mm) should be called the main design innovations. The rest (notches on the bezel and other nuances) are completely insignificant in comparison with this.

However, we must admit that even this less bulky “female” version is still significantly larger than the 40mm Apple Watch. over, in all three dimensions. Therefore, it remains to wish the manufacturer to continue to strive to create a truly compact model, which can be recommended without reservations to the fair sex.

10 cool things to do with Samsung Galaxy Watch!

Sports and fitness functions

Built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and optical heart rate sensor allow Galaxy Watch to collect physical activity data as well as the user’s heart rate, and store it all in S Health for later analysis.

The watch can track not only steps, but also running, swimming, cycling, cycling, elliptical, step trainers, lunges, crunches, squats, abs, jumps, Pilates, pull-ups, yoga, rowing, exercise equipment and much more.

During sports, the Galaxy Watch measures your heart rate using an optical heart rate monitor. It is quite accurate for this class of sensors, but loses to the chest strap. It should be borne in mind that while running, the optical sensor measures the pulse more accurately than when exercising in the gym or while swimming, since it is hindered by the accumulation of moisture on the skin.

If you go to bed in the watch, then it automatically tracks the time and quality of sleep, while the user can turn on the alarm, which will wake up with a sound signal or vibration.

The built-in A-GPS / Glonass module allows the watch to track the distance traveled while running or cycling. And for this you do not need to take your smartphone with you, the Galaxy Watch can determine the location without it. In this case, the start of the A-GPS / Glonass module takes 30-40 seconds, but in conditions of dense urban development this time can increase to several minutes.

To determine altitude, the Galaxy Watch has a barometer-based altimeter that detects pressure differences at different altitudes.

In general, compared to its predecessor, the set of sports capabilities of the Galaxy Watch, although slightly, has expanded, the watch now has support for swimming, more options for tracking activities in the gym.

Interface and programs

The Galaxy Watch runs on Tizen version 4.0 operating system. The entire clock interface is built around a circular display, program icons in the menu are arranged in a circle, and widgets are drawn in such a way as to show more useful information based on the shape of the screen. At the same time, it is very convenient to navigate the interface using a ring around the display.

The Tizen 4.0 interface itself is not much different from version 3.0 in previous models of Samsung smartwatches. The main screen in it is always a dial that can show the time, as well as additional information. If you swipe the dial to the left, the notification screen appears, and to the right. widgets, you can delete them and add new ones. The program menu opens with the lower button located on the right side of the watch case. In addition, directly from the dial with a swipe from the bottom up, you can open the quick settings menu, from where you can enable flight mode, power saving, lock the touch screen while swimming, disable notifications, make the display constantly active, adjust the brightness, start the player, and also open the full settings menu.

Platform, connection and configuration

What’s really new about the Galaxy Watch is the platform, the watch is built around a 10nm Exynos 9110 chip with two cores and a frequency of 1.15 GHz. However, the amount of RAM has not changed and is 768 MB with an internal storage capacity of 4 GB. For the Galaxy Watch, this is enough to keep the interface smooth and launch programs quickly.

Of the wireless modules, the watch has Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b / g / n, and NFC. Galaxy Watch can connect to smartphones running Android 5.0 and higher, as well as iPhones with iOS version 9.0 or higher. In the case of Android smartphones, the user gets full functionality, but on the iPhone it will be limited due to iOS restrictions. For example, the user will not always be able to receive notifications on the clock, on Android, accordingly, there are no such problems.

To work with the watch, you need to install the Galaxy Wearable application on your smartphone, through which the connection and subsequent configuration takes place. In this program, the user can see the current state of the device: level, charge, occupied RAM and built-in memory.

Galaxy Wearable is also responsible for setting up notifications that can be displayed on the watch screen. This system works with all applications installed on the smartphone, so that the user can choose which notifications he wants to receive and which not.

In addition, for some notifications on the watch itself, there are a number of actions, for example, you can read and reply to a message in Telegram, open a Gmail letter, quickly reply to it, delete or archive it. It turns out to be a rather flexible system that allows you to manage notifications on the watch without touching your smartphone.

In addition to wireless modules, the watch uses A-GPS / Glonass for positioning. This is necessary for tracking some sports, as well as for navigation, if you put a third-party application on the watch for this.

NFC in Galaxy Watch is needed for the Samsung Pay payment service, which does not work in Ukraine yet, but we hope that the company will launch it soon.

The test version of the Galaxy Watch did not have an LTE module, but the watch can receive calls from a smartphone via Bluetooth. Thus, they can be used as a wireless headset, which is convenient in the car or when it is not possible to take a call from a smartphone. At the same time, I note that the external speaker in the watch has become much louder.

Display and control

The Galaxy Watch has a round 1.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 360 × 360 pixels, covered with a protective Corning Gorilla DX glass. The colors are traditionally colorful for this type of matrix, and the brightness is adjustable within 10 values, but outdoors in direct sunlight, it automatically increases thanks to the light sensor, which allows the screen to remain readable. In general, such a display is pleasant to work with, it is large enough, has excellent viewing angles and is easy to read in bright light.

You can use both the touchscreen and the navigation ring around it to navigate the Galaxy Watch’s interface. The latter allows you not to overlap information and scrolls nicely. In addition, on the right side of the watch case there are two mechanical buttons, the upper one is responsible for a step back and, when pressed for a long time, calls Samsung Pay, and the lower one opens the program menu and returns to the main screen with a dial. At the same time, you can assign a quick action to it by double clicking on it, for example, start a workout or create a reminder.

As in the Gear S3 Frontier, the Galaxy Watch has comfortable and, most importantly, intuitive controls that you quickly get used to.

Design

Compared to the Gear S3 Frontier, the new Galaxy Watch has received cosmetic design changes, while both the case construction and its dimensions remain the same. The latter are 49x46x13 mm, weighing 69 grams without a strap.

From the new appearance of the Galaxy Watch, one can note a more accurate navigation wheel around the display, painted in black, as well as a polished silver case. The lower part has also changed slightly, the optical sensor now protrudes more from the body, thanks to which it sits more tightly on the hand.

I am glad that Samsung has not abandoned the standard 22mm straps, so you can use both compatible straps from third-party manufacturers and those released for the Gear S3 Frontier with the Galaxy Watch.

The Galaxy Watch is IP68 water and dust resistant and is water resistant to ISO 22810: 2010. 5ATM, allowing you to swim, but not dive. In addition, Samsung is talking about certification according to the military standard MIL-STD-810G, with passing tests for moisture penetration, immersion in water, and also at working height. Considering that the description of MIL-STD-810G takes 800 pages and includes 29 tests, with different implementation methods, without a more detailed description it is difficult to say exactly what conditions the hours withstood to pass the tests.

In general, there are not very many changes in the design of the Galaxy Watch, nevertheless, even if Samsung decided not to change anything at all, it would be difficult to bring to the disadvantages, because the Gear S3 Frontier looks great today. Like theirs, the Galaxy Watch has a classic round design that’s not obsolete over the past 100 years and is unlikely to be outdated in the foreseeable future.

Review of smart watches Samsung Galaxy Watch

While other smartphone makers largely ignore the smartwatch and sports watch market, Samsung continues to actively pursue this trend. Last year it launched the Gear Sport, and this year it’s time for the new flagship of the lineup. the Galaxy Watch. At the same time, it is interesting that earlier Samsung smartwatches on the Tizen platform were called Gear, and the Galaxy brand was used only for Android devices. But now the company has decided to get rid of these conventions, so let’s see what innovations the Galaxy Watch has, besides the name.

Autonomy

One of the biggest innovations in the Galaxy Watch is the 472mAh battery. Let me remind you that in the Gear S3 Frontier, with the same dimensions, it was 380 mAh, so the change is noticeable. During the announcement, Samsung managed to announce that the watch can work without recharging for a whole week. Here I will immediately note that the company was cheating a little, 7 days of battery life of the Galaxy Watch are provided with minimal use, or if they are put into power saving mode.

But in general, the autonomy compared to the Gear S3 Frontier really increased, with normal use, which includes checking the time, notifications, a pedometer and working with programs, it is 4-5 days.

If you add sports to this, then the autonomy will decrease to 2-3 days, but much will depend on the type of sport and the intensity of use of the watch. For example, running 4 km with an active GPS and heart rate monitor takes about 6% of the battery if you turn off the sound and look at the watch only when you reach the next kilometer.

If you enable the option for the Galaxy Watch to have a permanently active screen, then the autonomy will be 2 days, which, however, is quite a good indicator for such a mode of use.

The watch is charged via the docking station, a full charge takes 2.5 hours. At the same time, for some reason, Samsung used a microUSB connector in the dock. Given that the latter is gradually leaving, it will not be very convenient for users of smartphones with USB Type-C to use different chargers.

Connect to your watch remotely

The presence of LTE allows your Samsung smartwatch to connect to your phone remotely. Hence, you don’t have to constantly pair your devices via Bluetooth. Remote connections also let you find your watch even when it’s out of range of your phone.

To enable this feature, go to the “Account and Backup” “Remote Connection” section. Works only in LTE version.

How to take a screenshot from a Smartwatch?

Did you know that you can take screenshots from your smartwatch? This can come in handy, especially for troubleshooting where you might need to submit a bug to Support.

  • To take a screenshot on your Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch, swipe from left to right while holding down the Home button. If you have successfully completed this gesture, you will see an animation of the captured screenshot leaving the screen.
  • Screenshots are not directly transferred to your phone, they are stored in the local watch storage until you manually move them.

Samsung has consistently established itself in the smartwatch market. Its line of Galaxy Watch supports both Android and iPhone, and is robust and full of nifty hardware and software solutions.

However, if you are the proud owner of any Galaxy watch, chances are that you are not using your device to its fullest. The thing is, there are hidden features in the Samsung Galaxy Watch that are poorly documented in the user manual. Here are the best tips and tricks to get the most out of your smartwatch.

Customize your watch face to your liking

You can partially change most of the pre-installed Samsung watch faces. The design of the dial, the color of the hands, the pedometer and much more can be changed. To do this, press and hold on the active dial until the settings appear.

You can also turn on the so-called AOD (Always On Display) mode, in which the dial of your watch will darken to about 4 on a ten-point scale, but at the same time it will remain always on. For example, I really like this function, complaints are only caused by insufficient brightness, which Samsung does not want to increase in any way.

Add music tracks and images

Just like your phone, your Samsung Galaxy smartwatch has local storage. You can take advantage of this by adding music and pictures to your watch, and then view and listen to them offline. This allows, for example, to go for a run without a phone and listen to music through wireless headphones directly on the smartwatch.

To add content to your watch, first open the Galaxy Wearable app. Click Add Content to Watch, then click Add Tracks or Copy Images. You can even turn on auto-sync to keep your watch always in sync with your phone’s data.

Try the Good Night, Theater and Watch Only modes

Samsung includes several convenient modes in its smartwatches, for example, at the movies or while sleeping. In addition to the usual Do Not Disturb mode, you can try three more silent profiles: Good Night, Theater, and Watch Only.

In Theater mode, your watch will not light, vibrate, or ring when a new alert arrives. The good night mode is largely identical, with one exception. Everything will be silent except for alarms.

Finally, Watch-Only mode is for when the battery of your smartwatch is drained to a critically low level. It turns off all sensors on your watch and only displays the time. Samsung claims Watch-Only mode can extend the life of your smartwatch by another two or three days, and sometimes a week.

In quick settings, you will find options for Good Night and Theater mode. To enable the Watch Only profile, tap the Battery icon in quick settings, scroll down and activate it.

Change the background of the clock

Samsung smartwatches have a dark system background by default. But you can easily install another one from the companion application. The background settings can be found in the “Display” section “Background style”.

Rearrange widgets, quick settings and apps

Navigating the cramped touchscreen of a smartwatch can seem daunting. But you can make your life a little easier by reordering widgets, quick settings, and apps. To change their order, open the Galaxy Wearable app (Samsung Galaxy Watch for iPhone) and select Applications Menu Change Order.

From here, you can either force the watch to automatically move the most used apps to the top of the list, or manually reorder by holding a specific app and dragging it. To do the same for widgets, open the Widgets panel in the Galaxy Wearable app.
