Cannot Connect To Iphone Modem

The Modem Mode function allows you to use an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi Cellular) connection to a cellular data network in conjunction with another device. If you need help using the Modem Mode feature, follow these steps:

Cannot Connect to Iphone Modem

Basic actions

After each action, check if the problem is resolved.

  1. Make sure Modem Mode is turned on in the Settings section. “Modem Mode”. If you cannot find or enable the “Modem Mode” parameter, check if your mobile operator supports this mode and whether it is included in your tariff plan.
  2. Restart your iPhone or iPad in modem mode and the other device that you want to connect to the device in modem mode.
  3. Make sure your device is running the latest version of iOS.
  4. On an iPhone or iPad operating in modem mode, go to the Settings section “Basic” “Reset” and click “Reset Network Settings”.

If you still need help, use the instructions below to get help using the modem mode via Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth.

If you cannot connect to the device in modem mode via Wi-Fi

On a device operating in modem mode, go to the Settings section “Modem Mode” and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure Allow Others is turned on.
  2. Remember the name and password of the Wi-Fi network created by the device, which you will see on this screen. If you want to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, find out how to change the name of the device.
  3. Stay on this screen until another device is connected to the Wi-Fi network.

On the device that you want to connect to the device in modem mode, do the following:

  1. Turn Wi-Fi off and on again.
  2. Make sure you are connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. The network name is the same as the name of the iOS device operating in modem mode, and may be displayed next to it.
  3. If you receive an incorrect password message when trying to connect via the Modem Mode function, check the Wi-Fi network password. To do this, on a device operating in modem mode, go to the Settings section “Modem Mode”.

If you cannot connect to the device in modem mode via USB

To avoid additional data transfer costs, turn off the Modem Mode function when you do not need it. Otherwise, the computer will use the “Modem Mode” every time you connect an iOS device with this feature enabled.

Follow these steps on your Mac or on a Windows computer.

Connect a Mac to a device in modem mode via USB

  1. Update iTunes to the latest version.
  2. Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone or iPad in modem mode to your Mac. If necessary, make this device a trusted device.
  3. Make sure your iPhone or iPad can be found and viewed in iTunes or Finder. If your Mac does not recognize the device, try using a different USB cable.
  4. Go to the “System Settings” “Network” and check the “iPhone USB” box. If the checkbox does not appear, click and add it.
  5. Click, select “Deactivate Service” and click “Apply.”
  6. Click, select “Activate Service” and click the “Apply” button. If you already have another network connection, to enable the function “Modem Mode”, you may need to uncheck the box “Disconnect if you do not need it” and click the “Apply” button.

Connecting a Windows computer to a device in modem mode via USB

  1. Update iTunes to the latest version.
  2. Use an USB cable to connect your iPhone or iPad with Modem Mode enabled to your computer. If necessary, make this device a trusted device.
  3. Make sure your iPhone or iPad can be found and viewed in the iTunes app. If the Windows computer does not recognize the device, try using a different USB cable.
  4. Follow Microsoft’s instructions for checking your Internet connection on Windows 10 or Windows 7.

If you cannot connect to the device in modem mode via Bluetooth

Follow these steps to pair the devices and connect to the device in modem mode via Bluetooth.

Pairing between devices

  1. On a device operating in modem mode, go to the Settings section “Modem Mode” and make sure the “Allow Others” function is enabled.
  2. Go to the “Settings” Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. Leave this screen open, then follow the steps for the connected device:
    • On an iPad or iPod touch, select Settings “Bluetooth” and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. Press the device operating in modem mode, confirm the code that appears, then click “Pair” on both devices.
    • On a Mac, select the Apple menu () System Preferences, then click Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Select a device operating in modem mode, click Connect and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • On a Windows computer, click the Bluetooth icon in the notification area and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Select “Add a Bluetooth device” and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Connecting to a device in modem mode via Bluetooth

    To connect a Mac or Windows computer:

    • On a Mac, click on the menu bar. Select your iOS device that is in modem mode, then select Connect to Network. You can confirm the connection in the “System Settings” section. “Network”. If you are unable to connect, continue to the next section.
    • On a Windows computer, click in the notification area and select Join Personal Area Network (PAN). Right-click on the name of the device, hover over “Connect via” and select “Access Point”. If you still cannot connect, continue to the next section.

    If you still cannot connect to the device in modem mode via Bluetooth

    Turn Bluetooth off and on on devices:

    • On iOS devices, go to the Settings section “Bluetooth” and turn off, and then turn on Bluetooth again.
    • On a Mac, click on the menu bar, then turn Bluetooth off and on again.
    • On a Windows computer, select “Options,” click, then turn Bluetooth off and on again.

    If you still cannot connect, follow these steps:

    1. Break the pair between devices:
      • On the iPad or iPod touch that you want to connect to the device in modem mode, select Settings Bluetooth Click next to the name of the device operating in modem mode, then click “Forget this device.”
      • On a Mac, select the Apple menu () System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. Select a device that is in modem mode, then click.
      • On a Windows computer, click in the notification area. Select Show Bluetooth Devices and click on the name of the device with the Modem Mode feature active. Click Delete, then click OK.
      • Restart all devices.
      • Pair the devices and try connecting to the device in modem mode again.
