The Asus Vivobook lineup, along with Lenovo’s ThinkPad, has consistently remained among my top recommendations for users who desire a harmonious blend of performance and portability in laptop. Having had numerous chances to try out different models of the Vivobook series in the past, I have mostly been enthralled by the remarkable value these laptops offer in relation to their price points. Currently, I’m using the Vivobook 14X OLED, which exudes an air of sophistication and promises to deliver an exceptional user experience. It can be considered a mid-range offering with the version I’m reviewing currently at a retail price of Rs 1,14,990. So is the Vivobook 14X OLED your next laptop of choice? Build, design, and display
The Vivobook 14X OLED has a plastic build for the most part although the lid has a metallic construction. It won’t be wrong to say that the laptop’s outward appearance does inflate its premium nature but upon usage, it is clear that this is a mid-range offering. There is a bit of creaking around the centre of the keyboard and the lid, while helped by a flexible 180-degree hinge, does wobble when I type vigorously. However, there is absolutely no issue with regard to portability as the laptop weighs just about 1.4kg and has a thickness of 18.9mm. Also, the 14-inch screen size allows me to comfortably slide the device into my backpack. The colour options include Cool Silver, which I have with me, and Indie Black.
Talking a bit about the ports on the laptop, the right side has a USB 3.2 Type-C slot which also supports power delivery. Apart from that there are also USB 3.2 Gen 1 and HDMI 2.1 ports along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the left, the Vivobook 14X has its thermal vents and another USB 3.2 Gen 1 slot. As far as wireless options are concerned the device makes use of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The laptop also has a webcam on the top bezel with a physical slider for privacy. Finally, the fingerprint sensor is located just inside the trackpad.
The display is where Asus is charging a premium and with good reason. As a visual aid, the laptop offers a 14-inch 2.8K OLED panel that can refresh at 90Hz. In terms of colour accuracy, the display is Pantone-validated and Asus claims that it supports 100 percent of the DCI-P3 Colour Gamut. My experience with the screen remained very positive and I’m particularly impressed with the Display HDR TrueBlack 600 feature that provides stunning dynamic range to any video content.
As a result, any video content on the display looks quite immersive, which is hard to replicate in this price bracket. I took delight in the screen’s reproduction of Interstellar’s jaw-dropping visuals in such clarity. I think that the laptop can be considered a pretty easy recommendation for creative professionals who dabble in colour correction and photo editing work. Also, outdoor usage remains less of a problem with the nearly 600 units of peak brightness on offer. However, since the screen comes in a glossy finish instead of matte, any light source behind you can reflect off the display. A small niggle, in an otherwise harmonious viewing experience.
Keyboard and trackpad
Asus does have a good track record of providing a comfortable typing experience no matter the segment. The Vivobook 14X benefits from this with its standard six-row Chiclet-style keyboard with 1.4mm of travel. Although the laptop is compact in size, the keys are not cramped together. The learning curve for the typing experience on the device is relatively short.
There is a backlight available that can be adjusted to three levels. Apart from that, the trackpad has a decent enough surface area but isn’t the best in terms of response. There’s just a slight bit of delay between gliding my finger on the trackpad and the time it takes to move the cursor. The fingerprint reader, located within the trackpad enclosure, does its job as advertised with fast and reliable authentication.
Performance and battery
In terms of raw performance, the Vivobook 14X OLED is offered in several variants powered by Intel’s 13th-gen lineup. I have with me the top-end i9 13900H version of the laptop which retails for Rs 1,14,990 although you can also get the base i5 13500H-powered one for Rs 89,990 as well. I have analysed the processing metrics associated with my review unit and came away quite impressed. The device scored good points on benchmarking platforms like Cinebench and PCMark which adds to the 14X’s utility. In terms of cooling and thermal activity, strenuous tasks did manage to heat up the chassis but did not affect the laptop’s performance.
The graphical output is managed by NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 GPU on my variant. It is definitely not the most powerful piece of silicon to enjoy high-fidelity gaming but it will suffice in the case of some light video editing work. I did, however, run a few titles to test the efficiency of the Vivobook 14X Pro when it comes to some of the classic multiplayer games on the market. The laptop managed to keep 60fps constant on CS: GO and Valorant, but only at medium settings. Asus has included its MUX Switch technology to better help the GPU communicate with the display which, in part, helps in higher frame rate counts. However, if your ambitions are more towards AAA gaming, then the Vivobook 14X OLED may not serve your needs.
One thing I definitely did not like about the laptop is its audio setup. The speaker quality doesn’t seem great, and I would really recommend a good pair of headphones/earphones if you are consuming audio content. The webcam quality is nothing to brag about and is just passable enough for VC.
As for the battery life, the laptop has a 63Whr cell which is decent enough considering this Vivobook’s dimensions. It is ably supported by 90W charging via the adapter provided within the box. My usage mostly centred around playing videos, typing out this review on Chrome, and using a bit of Microsoft Office. I got about five hours out of the machine, again a reasonably good amount. While charging the battery juices up fast in about 90 minutes.
Verdict
Parting thoughts, of which I have a few, mostly revolve around the portability of the laptop and its rather good display. Both these factors, along with the relatively good processing capabilities, would be important for the target consumers. I feel that the device is not just for working professionals, but also for users dabbling in creative work. My only gripe with the device is its less-than-acceptable audio setup and trackpad. However, these issues are remedied with access to suitable peripherals. The Vivobook 14X OLED is a device with good potential and gets my nod as an acceptable mid-range offering.

The all-new Asus Vivobook Pro is already available with third-party retailers and online distributors. Both the Intel and the AMD variants are now available globally. The Vivobook pro is has a starting price of around 899 which is actually a very good price if you consider the offerings. The AMD models also feature variants with Ryzen 5 5600H and go all the way up to Ryzen 9 5900HX. The base model comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD and the top tier variant comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD.
Vivobook Pro 14X M7400 Design and Aesthetics
The Asus Vivobook Pro 14 Laptop features a metal build quality with a sleek design. The one that we reviewing is Grey in color. The logo branding is totally different than what we saw on the other Vivobooks. Asus went with a navy metal look for the laptop. The deck has a similar kind of design which we get to see on the lid. Since metal is used for the entire construction, the laptop feels a lot sturdy and it doesn’t have a lot of flex or bulge in any way. The finishing is good but it’s not as good as the other lightweight Premium laptops. If you compare the design with the Razer Blade 14, the Vivobook is slightly larger and heavier. Now it is a fact that those are premium-level notebooks but the Vivobook 14X feels quite right in its spot.
The laptop deck feels quite sturdy and it won’t feel that mushy when typing. There is a huge touchpad that takes up a lot of space on the deck. The display is worth mentioning but the rough plastic bezels around the screen can look a little bad if you are extremely picky about the viewing experience. There are two color variants for this model. The white/silver combination and the dark gray variant that we have here today. Asus also removed the illuminated power button and replaced it with a new design with an inbuilt fingerprint while putting all the illuminated LEDs on the side.
The base of the Vivobook Pro 14X has rubber feet and the corners are blunt which is very much wrist-friendly. The hinge can be leaned back till 150 degrees which we consider a disadvantage because other Creator laptops like the last Generation MSI Prestige 15 which we had the option of leaning the display till 180 degrees. Other than that aesthetic-wise, the exterior looks much more premium than the interiors.
Asus OLED Laptop M7400 – Display
The primary selling point of this laptop is its OLED Display. It features a beautiful 14 inches display with a resolution of 2880x1800px. This laptop is mostly aimed at content creators as the display is Pantone Verified and it features 100% sRGB DCI P3 Color Gamut. It produces real colors which are extremely beneficial when it comes to editing photos or videos. It also has a brightness of 400nits with an aspect ratio of 16:10. The display of the Asus Vivobook 14 Pro when compared with much pricier devices like the Dell XPS 15.
The Pro 14X Laptop features a 90hz display if you want to go do some gaming on it. It’s far better than having a native 60hz display. The display is extremely crisp with the TUV Rheinland Eye Care Certification. This 2.8K OLED Screen is extremely beautiful with rich and punchy colors. The viewing angles are fantastic and such a screen on a midrange laptop is actually very hard to get. Not only that, it is one of the best laptops to watch videos and content on. It is a huge improvement over the previous Creator notebooks or Vivobook Pro 14X from Asus.
4K is great but the Vivobook Pro 14X from Asus is on a different level altogether. With HDR and Dark modes, not only you will get excellent color reproduction but it is more energy-efficient as well. The low blue light is also better for your eyes after long hours of working.

Keyboard
The Asus Vivobook 14 features black-colored keys with illuminated large white fonts. The keyboard feels nice while typing but we are not a big fan of the small size of the keyboard that it comes with. The keys are very silent and typing in the dark won’t be an issue as well because of the white illuminated keys with three levels of brightness. The power key acts both as biometric authentication for fingerprint scanners and to turn on your Asus laptop as well. The keyboard is small because Asus left room for the big glass touchpad which is discussed next.
Trackpad
The glass trackpad or clickpad feels extremely smooth and nice. It is not as premium as the ones that come on Zen books you would have pretty much the same experience while using it. The touchpad responds really well to all the Windows gestures and multi-touch as well. The Vivobook features the Asus Dialpad, it is a virtual dial that you can activate by clicking on the keypad. This feature gives you control over the brightness and volume. The shortcuts can also be modified in the ProArt Creator software. Whenever you will use Adobe software like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Aftereffects, the dial can be modified to use it as per your workflow.
Vivobook Pro Laptop Review – Battery, Webcam and Speakers
The Asus Vivobook Pro 14 laptop features a 63W/hr battery. The AMD Ryzen processor is very efficient and even with a 2800p OLED display, the laptop lasts for a long period of time. With the brightness set to around 120 nits, we get about 6 hours of usage if we are doing word processing work and email. browsing etc. It would last around the same if you only use it to watch Netflix shows or YouTube videos. We expected that the 2.8K OLED display is the one that is pulling the laptop’s battery back especially in the white backgrounds but we are totally wrong. The Vivobook 14 Pro aced it in all situations giving us continuous battery power. The Vivobook Pro 14X also comes with a 120W charger with a normal plug. This laptop doesn’t support charging via USB Type C.
The Webcam on the Vivobook Pro 14X is 720p and it is one of the major letdowns for the ones who will be using this laptop for video calling as well. When we opened the camera app we saw a bit of haziness in the image quality. The pictures are dull and the camera is left not capable of controlling the light exposure well. For casual zoom call meetings, this webcam is okay and will get the job done but if you something better check out our list of best webcams. We liked the privacy shutter on the camera but other than that for there is nothing too fancy in the webcam department.
The audio is handled by a pair of bottom-firing stereo speakers. The speakers are placed in an angular way so the sound bounces off without any distortions. If you place the Vivobook on your lap, then the angular position will prevent sound muffling. The speakers are okay for the size and it produces a sound that is more highs centric rather than lows. The DTS Audio processing can also help enhance your speaker’s sound clarity as well.
Asus Vivobook Pro 14X Review – Performance
The all-new Asus Vivobook Pro 14X laptop comes with both Intel 11th Gen and AMD Ryzen 5000 configurations and the one we have with us today has the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Octa-Core Processor with 16 threads. These multithreaded processors allow us to do multitasking and run software like Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After effects, and other rendering software. Specs-wise this is built on AMD Ryzen 7 5000H Series Platform but Asus uses various power profiles to tone down the CPU power wherever necessary to meet the thermal and power requirements of this 14-inch Vivobook Pro.
For the Graphics card, the Asus Vivobook Pro M7400QE features the all-new 2nd Generation Nvidia RTX 3050Ti 4GB Graphics Card. This is a 35W GPU that runs at 50W when Dynamic boost is enabled. Although there is also an option to choose the lower-end RTX 3050 Graphics card if you are tight on budget. The RTX 3050Ti graphics card is more than capable to run the modern rendering software with ease and also mainstream games would look and run butter on this device. The ProArt Notebooks from Asus features the RTX Studio drivers for better optimization in Content Creation workloads.

The Asus Vivobook Pro 14X Laptop comes with a preinstalled Windows 11 Pro. Asus did a great job of providing a PRO version of the Windows OS rather than the standard Home Version. Apart from that, you get a variety of apps that come preinstalled with the laptop like Spotify, McAfee, Weather, ProArt Creator Hub, etc. Yes, you can remove most of them if you don’t want to keep them. The MyASUS software also helps you set up your personal user account and security settings. Apart from that, you will also get Office Home and Student 2019 Preinstalled.

Open it up and the first thing you will notice is the large keyboard, which has the side keys like TAB, Entre etc in a lighter shade of grey and the mid part is black in colour. With exception of the Escape key that is dressed in red. The keyboard is accompanied by a fairly large trackpad. Why is it so large? Because it also has the Asus virtual dial pad, which it has borrowed from its Pro Art sibling. There it was a physical dial, but here it is embedded within the trackpad. about it in the ‘performance section’.
As for the ports, users get 3 USB, 1 HDMI, 1 USB Type-C and 1 audio/mic port along with a microSD card slot. The speakers (powered by Harman Kardon) are bottom-firing which do have a decent output, but a bit louder would have been perfect.
Moving to its screen, which is one of its best features, consumers get a 14-inch OLED NanoEdge screen that supports FHD resolution of 2,800×1,800 pixels. 600 nits of peak brightness with HDR support keeps everything lively on the screen. The text is crisp and the colours are very pleasing with super deep blacks. This is by far the finest display we have seen this year. We played a lot of things on the computer including Netflix shows, games like CS: Go and more. Everything on the screen looks very good. It did not give a chance to shame it even once.
While the Asus branding can be seen under the screen, there is an HD camera present on top. This has a special shutter in front of it that slides in, this gives you that extra bit of relief that no one can see you even if they somehow get access to your laptop’s camera.
Asus Vivobook Pro 14x review: Performance
Right, so all of it till now seems like a fairy tale, but the best is yet to come. The Asus Vivobook Pro 14x comes with AMD Ryzen 9 (5900HX) inside with 16GB RAM and 1TB of superfast SSD drive. Graphics are provided by NVIDIA GeForce 3050 Ti graphics card. This combo is very hard to come by at this price point and the way Asus has assembled it all can put some of the best machines slip back into their blankets (and never come out).
We threw everything at the machine including the kitchen sink to find a chink in the armour, but we could not find even one. It can play games like Dota 2 and CS: Go at their respective highest settings. Can play games like Battlefield 2042 in high settings, which is quite good too. We were able to edit 4K resolution videos easily and it could render them out swiftly. Not once did we feel it was underpowered.
The dual-fan cooling system works exceptionally well, too. Yes, these are winter months, but still many in the bracket get hot, but not this one. It got warm only when it was rending 4K videos. Other than that even after 30 minutes of gaming, it was cool.
So, tell us more about the virtual dial pad on the trackpad?
With it, you can do so many things. For example, you can increase decrease brush sizes in Photoshop, can access the volume or decrease/increase the screen brightness too. It can be customised to more programs, but it works best with the Adobe Suite of programs including Premiere Pro and After Effects. Well, the creator in us was very happy with Asus Vivobook Pro 14x, as we love extra keys or feather touch panels that work as a shortcut for the most commonly used commands in a software.
Moving on, the power button on the Asus Vivobook Pro 14x doubles up as a fingerprint sensor, too. This is great as it opens the machine with just a tap and every time you need not key in the password.
As for the battery, it has a three-cell 63Wh battery inside that gave us over 5.5 hours of work time. This is not bad considering how small the device is. It weighs just 1.45 Kg. Other features include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, Windows 11 Pro, Microsoft Office suite (onboard) and built-in microphones for daily Zoom meetings.
Verdict
And then it boils down to just one thing. Is it worth buying at Rs 109,990? That is a firm yes. If you are in the market looking for a portable powerhouse fit for any creator, artist, video or graphic editor, this is the laptop for you. You can do so much with it. In case you need a little more screen room, then you can look at its bigger brother that has a 16-inch screen.
