For the most part, smartphone manufacturers ask that you always use original chargers. This is due to the specific charging power, but it is also supposed to increase safety as you can never tell what kind of quality third-party manufacturers churn out. We would like to shed more light on this.

Fast charging standards supported by Samsung smartphones

Samsung is not among the best smartphone manufacturers in terms of fast charging, just like Apple and Google. When it comes to charging a smartphone very quickly, Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Realme do much better with charging powers of up to 160 W or more. Unfortunately, these manufacturers rely on proprietary standards, so you need the right charger with the right cable to take advantage of them.

Samsung also doesn’t offer the highest power ratings, but has the advantage of using the latest universal standards. So, to charge your Galaxy S22 Ultra at its maximum power, you don’t have to have the official Samsung charger because any charger with enough power and compatible with USB PD 3.0 will do.

How fast can I charge my Samsung smartphone?

We mentioned it earlier: The S22 and S22 Ultra charge at speeds of up to 45 watts, assuming it uses a compatible charging adapter. If you decide on the base S22 model, 25 watts is the maximum, just like in its three predecessors from 2021. Interestingly, older models like the Galaxy Note 10 or the Galaxy S20 Ultra already supported fast charging at 45 watts.

In practice, this speed was mostly not achieved (rather, it was around 30 W). The new models also seem to suffer from the fact that 45 watts is just theoretically possible. The following list of the most important Samsung smartphones at the moment shows the maximum charging speed according to Samsung and which standards are supported.

The best wireless charger from Samsung: 15W Fast Wireless Duo Charger

For wireless charging, most of the other alternatives charge at a maximum of 9 watts, but this linked model below offers a faster 15W output. In this case, you also have an additional surface area so that you can charge your Galaxy Watch in addition to your smartphone. Of course, you have to be aware that this takes more time compared to wired solutions.

All praise the open standard and participation by OEMs.

Compliance is great for me as a user.

Now, multiport chargers please. Phone, tablet, e-reader, ear buds need daily juice on trip.

Which basically works for all my gear (laptop, mobiles, camera, headphone. )

It basically retired the original notebook charger brick that came with it.

[edit] of course it helps I don’t have gadgets that rely on proprietary chargers.

I’m currently using a 4 port ravpower with PD and QC for the last year on the road. I use mostly short cables, a foot or less, to limit bulk and mess on the go. I keep one longer cable (2m) for flexibility.

At home I use an older 5 port unit with no label to remind me what it is. I ended up bundling my cables at home with zip ties to control tangling. I’m leaving the last foot or so unbundled to reach the different devices.
